| Before Christmas, a friend gift his GTX 1060 6gb all the way from USA to Asia Posted: 01 Jan 2021 08:04 AM PST So for the last 8.5 years, I had a prebuilt which had the following specs: i7 3770 3.4Ghz 4c8t GT 630 2gb 192 cores 875mhz (codename GK107) 4x4gb DDR3 1600mhz 2TB HDD 150gb SSD A bit of background knowledge: A lot of games like Sniper Elite 4, Fallout 4, Wolfenstein the new order, The Outer Worlds, Farcry series, crysis 3,I usually get 23 fps to 27fps (or 12 to 17 depending on the map etc) and older games, I get better fps like fallout 3, fallout new vegas, crysis 2, etc. I usually tweak settings from nvidia control panel to ini settings to get at least 30 fps. During the delivery, I was super nervous and all but when it finally reached my country, I was very happy! It felt like Im super close to getting my hands on it! When I received it, I went back home, unpacked it, and behold, wrapped so neatly! I was worried because there was a rockstar cyberpunk soda can wrapped inside the parcel too. And I didnt know how USPS would handle it too. But they did an awesome job!! I had to a buy a new PSU too, so I bought a Seasonic Focus GX-750, thermal grizzly kryonaut 1ml and compressed air duster Putting it together: I decided to swap parts and clean the fans as well as changing the thermal paste. The cooler fans were the intel push pin fans types, so I understand why everyone hates it now. When swapping PSU, my case is old so I dont have any area to organize wiring. Sad times. Switched out the gpu. But theres a problem, computer couldn't boot up. DRAM_LED was on and none of my IO ports were receiving signals. (My mouse and keyboard (used mobo io usb port) has led, ethernet connected but no light) Single abnormal long beep when shutting down. Everyone had no clue online. Websites were giving me combo beeps. Well I took pretty much the whole day cuz I dont like rushing but I took my own time but legs are cramp af since I sat on the floor for like 8 hrs so by the time it came to debugging, it was night time. The next day I had a dream thinking it would turn on but no :( my thumbs were bruising cuz I was trying to re-fit the ram into the slots and because they had no heatsink, its just a thin pcb which makes pushing it a pain. They were not fitted correctly. But that still didnt allow my computer to boot up. Asked a particular online friend, he told me from the abnormal shutdown beep was a ram issue. He told me something about cmos and ram being related to why it wont boot. Also I didnt know I have 12 missing components or so on my mobo (solder points there and drawing, header note or something is there to say what that component is) but the component like memOK! button, BIOS_FLBK, pwr_fan, CHA_FAN2, GPU_Boost, etc missing. He told me to remove all 4 slots then place 1 ram in the 1st slot (told me how the slots were arranged) then it booted for the first 2 slots, the 3rd ram did not boot when inserted to slot 3 and 4, then switched to the other ram stick and it didnt boot for slot 3 but booted up for slot 4. And everyone thought I broke my mobo or something else irrelevant. Shut it down then placed the beast gtx 1060 and installed the new drivers and restarted (I used DDU in safe mode before replacing the gpu and swapping parts I am so happy that its working now! I can play most games in ultra at 100fps and even cyberpunk 2077! To you who sent me, bro, I seriously appreciate it <3 I underestimated this beast of a card TLDR: Friend gift me a gtx 1060 6gb along with a rockstar cyberpunk soda can. Swapped out the psu for a seasonic focus gx 750 but had to sacrifice a 4gb ram stick and slot for a gpu since they became defective after testing since computer couldnt boot up. Its now working very well :D Edit: some appreciation text. I will add some pictures and benchmarks to see the changes of old and new gpu. [link] [comments]  |

Posted: 01 Jan 2021 06:00 AM PST Once in the year of 2020, there was an advent calendar bundle on a pc component online store around here, and I fell for the ultimate bundle... i9-10850k MPG-Z490-GAMING-CARBON-WIFI Kingston 2x16GB HyperX Fury, DDR4 3200MHz Intel 1TB SSD But lo, for that was not everything there was in the advent calendar - for also there was a Kingston 500GB SSD - to house an os and the few core programs And so, I also did get a Noctua NH-D15! The case and psu and fans will come later, because they didn't immediately have the p500a black or fractal design ion+ 860W but they will come, I am sure of it. But then... oh, then comes the real bummer the herd of the flock the fly in the eye the shoe in where it doesn't belong I'll have my old EVGA GTX 970 as the gpu... I know... One day, there'll be a 3070 or 3080 available and I still might be able to resuscitate the bottle from the neck it'll be given But even before that, this is a huge upgrade for me from my i3-4130 and 8GB DDR3 I've had since 1050. | Professional idiot seeks gaming enthusiast to avoid next mistake - 144Hz Monitor Problems Posted: 01 Jan 2021 08:34 AM PST Hey All, Well today is a.... humbling day. I listened and bought into the whole 144Hz 1440p = best monitor thing about a year ago and went out and bought the Acer GN246HL which was lauded as the best value monitor at this price. Nice monitor, I have owned it for a solid year by now I think. Well I am changing jobs so I now need to get myself a monitor stand and give back the one work had lent me and their monitors. So I just bought a stand and thought to myself, I guess I need a second monitor because 2 monitors is Godliness. So I start looking into my monitor thinking "I will just buy another, it should be cheaper by now" turns out problem number 1 appears. It's no longer for sale on UK amazon (I want to use some vouchers from my company as a Christmas gift) This is actually not the first problem I notice, first what becomes obvious is that the monitor is running at 59Hz.... I bought at 144Hz monitor that's dumb let's just fix that... OK no obvious 144Hz options. Check the Nvidia control panel, nothing there either. What's wrong here? Apparently HDMI only support 1080p 60Hz, I need to use DVI to achieve 1440p with 144Hz!?!?! Never knew that, now let's just check what I have free on my moderately new Nvidia 1660... Oh yeah, just displayports. So I can never use this monitor for the reason I bought it. That's about as intelligent as just plugging straight into my motherboard instead of the GPU. TL;DR Question 1) The Acer GN246HL is no longer for sale on Amazon UK can someone please suggest a display port 144Hz 1440p monitor that is good value and flat because I think curved is weird. 24" with Displayport please. Question 2) There is no way to connect an Nvidia 1660 to and Acer GN246HL to run at 144Hz is there? Question 3) Would there be a better value solution all around that I haven't considered such as selling my GPU / monitor and buying other things to replace them? Though this isn't really the route I want to due to the faff, I have some time off so I will consider it. Please no AMD GPU recommendations after a very bad experience with Black screens after every Windows update in the past for over a year I swore never to buy AMD again. [link] [comments]  |
| Upgrade from a 2500k/HD6950 to a 5600x/RTX3070 Posted: 01 Jan 2021 10:14 AM PST Every time I build I say this time I will keep it a bit updated and then the better part of a decade later I realise that it's almost everything that needs replacing lol Was totally going to wait until maybe Feb/March but a 3070 randomly appeared and I bit. Couldn't be happier the change is ridiculous, no longer are games of the past few years struggling to run on the lowest settings MOBO: x570 tomahawk - Flashing the BIOS is super easy. Just the CPU power (24+8 pin), a 16GB USB 2.0 drive in the flash port. You know it's updating as there's a hard to see blinking LED that I could only really see on the wifi antenna connector. I left it as I didn't notice the board restarted itself but the giveaway is the mystic light RGB leds at the front start flashing away once it's updated and rebooted itself Ryzen 5 - 5600x - Yeah it's definitely crazy seeing that many cores not on a work server. The temp is down at the 30 degrees mark so think there's plenty of potential to push it RTX3070 - Gigabyte Vision OC - Actually lovin7g the aesthetics of the card. Looks quite nice having something not black. Fired up Cyberpunk and it's smooth as anything running on my 1440p monitor. It'll be interesting to see how it holds when the game gets more chaotic Case - Corsair 4000X RGB - The airflow might not be as good as mesh front panel computers, but with a AIO cooler up top and an added fan at the rear for exhaust it seems pretty solid for the compromise of the solid front to muffle the noise a little and to just look quite pretty NVME - Sabrent 1TB Rocket NVME 4.0 - Yeah I can see it's a huge boost already from my old Samsung 860 EVO drive Other bits: the H100x cooler came over from the old PC (replaced it in the summer after a house move seemed to break the old pump). Think I'll be keeping it for a while but I might replace the fans for a little more RGB goodness. I didn't do too badly with keeping my cables tidy, but I'll probably redo the cable work and throw in some white braided extension cables to make the front really pop. For storage I've got 2 platter drives (totalling 2.5TB) and the samsung EVO (500GB) that came with me. I was debating throwing a neweer larger SSD on the back but now I'm thinking of actually using the other NVME slot, but will probably be fine for at least a year Happy building and gaming all [link] [comments]  |

| Posted: 01 Jan 2021 08:34 AM PST Hey Reddit, I currently have an i7-7700k with a nvidia geforce 2070 super and am running a dual monitor setup. I play mainly Valorant and Warzone and also stream. When I stream or share screens for example on discord even, my fps for Valorant drops from 200+ to like 100 and sometimes under that, I am thinking that I am being bottlenecked by my i7-7700k but am not sure. If any of you guys can provide input that would be amazing! Also any recommendations to help with fps or CPU recommendations would be very helpful. Thanks guys and Happy New Year! | (3060 ti + 5600x) or (3070+3600)? Posted: 01 Jan 2021 02:01 PM PST As title suggests, for 1440p which is better in games like Apex Legends, Warzone, Overwatch, Fortnite, DOOM, and Witcher 3? I have a 1440p 165hz monitor and want to get as close to it's refresh rate as possible. Could overclocking the 3060 ti + 5600x get more fps than 3070 + 3600 overclocked? Any suggestions, tips, or tricks? Making a brand new build, willing to wait a month if necessary. I also heard about 5600 non-x rumored release, maybe that would be a better option. | [ASUS AM4 TUF Gaming X570-Plus] Update BIOS without CPU Posted: 01 Jan 2021 12:33 PM PST Used board. I can't get this to accept a CPU. My build will be using Ryzen 7 3800XT, but that shows "CPU Error". I also get "CPU Error" with my Ryzen 5 2600... which goes back onto it's own MB and runs. I think its a bad board since both CPU's show error, but I wanted to give updating the bios a shot. I don't see any button for bios load on MB. When I try to boot so I can get the BIOS screen I don't see any indication at all on the screen or MB. The only things I have plugged in are the power leads, case panel leads, ram & video card. Anyway what do we recommend. Naturally I prefer to build, but if there are any good pre builds that are a bargain I will also appreciate. | Posted: 01 Jan 2021 10:49 AM PST So as stated above I got a free CPU (yay for me, kinda wanted something more but hey free is free I'm extremely grateful!) CPU: Ryzen 5 3600XT 6 core 3.8GHz I guess my main question is where do I go from here? I have probably about $600 to blow at this moment and really want to commit to ordering more parts. I was thinking case, motherboard, maybe the PSU but I honestly am very indecisive. I also don't know really anything about certain brands or what consumers have been happy with other than the reviews I see online (which I do not trust.) The biggest reason I say I wish my CPU was something more is because I was planning on being patient enough for a GPU in the 30 series but now I might looking into a 2060 or 2070 for the time being since I believe my build could be complete sooner than I could land a 3080 or 3090. In another group, I was told it's better if I just sell my current rig and build a new one. Some said I could just upgrade my GPU and I should be fine. I'd need your recommendations🌸 This is my current rig: • CPU: Ryzen 5 1600 • MOBO: MSI Tomahawk Arctic B350 • GPU: GTX 1050Ti • RAM: 16GB • STORAGE: 256 M.2 SSD & 2TB HDD • DISPLAY: 24.5" 144Hz I initially wanted to up my CPU/GPU/RAM but I'm not that updated with the latest tech. I'll need a little help! One thing I'm sure of, I'm not looking for an overkill build. Just something decent to work and stream with. My goal is to have atleast 60fps stable on my livestream without having to turn my game settings to low. ☺️ I don't have a budget in my head yet, but if I have to completely change my rig, maybe I could go with something around $1200! | Black screen problems with first build Posted: 01 Jan 2021 02:13 PM PST I built my first PC around 2 months ago; everything has been fine but lately I've been getting black screens while playing games and I can't figure out why. It use to be one or two a day but it's gone up to what seems like every minute or two while playing games where there's a lot happening such as: COD Cold War, Warzone, PUBG, even the Forest. Windows is up to date and I even deleted my GPU drivers and reinstalled them to see if it fixed the problem. Could it be my PSU? Thanks for the help. | Can someone explain how wiring up case fans works to a new builder... Posted: 01 Jan 2021 04:18 PM PST Hi, I will soon be building in the pc-o11 dynamic, and will have 9 fans total to put in the case, 3 on a rad exhausting on top, 3 on side intake, and 3 on bottom intake. The fans are coolermaster mf120 argb fans and are capable of daisy chaining. Now on to why i'm confused. If i use the pwm splitter that comes with the packs of fans, will that not divide the ampage by however many things are plugged in, giving the 3 fans a third of the power? I'm also confused by how much i can plug in to one argb header, i've worked out the wattage of each fan's rgb should be about 2.75W, so can i just daisy chain together 5 fans and plug in to one header, then daisy chain together the other 4 and plug them in to the other one? I'm getting myself a bit worked up and confused about how all these fans need to plug in to 2 argb headers, sorry if what i say makes little sense lol [link] [comments]  |
