7 Pro owners thoughts on using an iPhone 11 Pro MAX for a month

    Posted: 10 Jan 2021 08:38 PM PST

My work recently gave me an iPhone 11 Pro MAX 256gb to test/use for a month (MDM Trial, but the trial basically failed and the phone was vanilla the whole time).

I used to use iPhones way back, a 3G and then a 4 before moving to android. Since then went though a Nexus, a few Samsung's till I found Oneplus, had a 3T now a 7 Pro. My sister is always singing the iPhones praises (and in fairness for her it works brilliantly) and really wanted me to give it a red hot go when I told her I was getting one for a month.

I really tried to give it every chance to turn me but it unfortunately it did the opposite of growing on me over time, I'm more turned off than ever, here's a few of my personal thoughts and findings.

    • I found the camera (photos) downright average (admittedly I use GCAM on my OP) - video however was excellent, especially stabilised while walking. Photo's generally came out soft and warm/bright to my eyes. Certainly not garbage, but far from being wow'd (which I was by video)
    • I just can't get on board with the gesture navigation and the UI style and navigation as a whole, I use on screen nav bar buttons on my OP and can't give them up, plus even that is super customisable. The iPhone never got to a 'natural' state for me, it just managed to frustrate me on the daily and you just need to roll over and get used to it.
    • Setting up the home screens/layout/controls/UI/UX etc the way you want, iOS felt like a cruel joke coming from the world of Android.
    • lack of high refresh and animation customisation. I can literally see the individual frames as I navigate, my 7Pro feels like greased lightning compared to the iPhone (also 0.5x animation, 90hz forced at all times), this was something I expected the 'smoothness' if iOS to make up for, it did not. Not even close. It wasn't laggy, it wasn't choppy, it was just slower with animations I couldn't adjust at all.
    • No fingerprint scanner and using FaceID. When it worked it was fine but it was awkward and let me down many times for various reasons.
    • Massive, ugly, notch. No, I didn't ever forget it was there.
    • heavy, heavier than my OP 7 pro, which isn't in itself bad, but unexpected.
    • Very nice build quality but I'd say the 7Pro is right there too, perhaps every so marginally behind. If the iPhone's are a 10/10, my 7Pro is a 9.5/10 imo.

Now don't get wrong, I can truly see why and how so many people love them, but boy I found it inferior for my personal use and taste by a country mile. There is so much that I can't account for an test in only 30 days that I know counts in their favour, long term in the ecosystem, when you upgrade from and older one to a new one, timely updates to name just a few. Some of these often count doubly against android in a reverse situation.

I'm willing to grant that my 7 Pro setup isn't what you'd call out of the box, but it's MY comparison so and I set them both up as best I can for MY own taste and uses. I just could not make using an iPhone enjoyable, where by comparison just the act of using the 7 Pro, launching/switch apps, working my way around the UI is delightful. Clearly the OxygenOS/high refresh type experience is right up my alley, and it's not for everyone, but damn neither is using iOS - and I don't think 120hz on it's own is going to fix that.

The One Plus 7 is the only phone that does not have accessories on the one plus app store

    Posted: 11 Jan 2021 11:44 AM PST

Wanted to buy a new tempered glass, but felt really disappointed when I filtered 'One Plus 7'. They have accessories for their One Plus 3 and 3T, right up to 8 Pro, but just completely skipped the 7. No screen guards, no cases, nothing!

I feel really neglected and completely disappointed with One Plus on this.

Tmobile 8t trying to get 2nd sim working

    Posted: 11 Jan 2021 02:25 PM PST

Tmobile 8t trying to get 2nd sim working

    OnePlus 8T

I've got the tmo variant of the 8t and I've tried switching to eu and global firmwares with no luck on getting the 2nd sim working, even tried 3 different roms all with no luck. The slot the sim tray goes in has metal contacts where both sims go plus I bought the eu sim tray that holds both sims.

Any suggestions for this would be appreciated

What's going on with OnePlus lately?

    Posted: 11 Jan 2021 08:02 PM PST

So after Nord and 8T launch, they start making products that aren't really up to their standards. N10 and N100 are good examples, it looks different from what they usually produce, what happened to the OnePlus that makes great product that are reasonable priced? OnePlus band seems to be another victim, I didn't even know it launched in some region.

Anyone else having problems with connecting bluetooth devices on the op 8t? I was trying to connect to my old phone through bluetooth to send files (I know nearby share is a thing) just testing out the feature because I am planning on buying bluetooth earbuds.

How to get rid of the "weather" background on this homescreen page?

    Posted: 11 Jan 2021 08:51 AM PST

    https://i.imgur.com/jE0SX29.jpg

Used to only use my set wallpaper as the background when I swipe left to this tab, now it's using some animated weather one that LAGS whenever I switch to the tab. Haven't installed any new weather apps that would do this, and I can't find where to shut it off/change it back to my wallpaper

My next phone probably wo'nt be a OnePlus.

    Posted: 11 Jan 2021 05:53 PM PST

My OnePlus 7pro is great, got it for a great price and have been using it for over a year. BUT the screen and camera aren't the best, the my notification bar is just a solid dark gray band and the is a small rainbow colored nick in my screen, not the glass but the screen its self. The camera okay but the zoom leave much to be desired.

Though I only spent 475 so I can't complain too much.

    Edit:Won't*

    OnePlus Removed DCI 4K

    Posted: 11 Jan 2021 02:54 AM PST

Thought I'd raise a point here, in 2014 OnePlus Released the OnePlus One, notable for several features one of them being the ability to record in DCI 4K. However, it now appears that this is no longer possible as of the OnePlus 7. The best quality available to record in now appears to be 3840 x 2160 (UHD 4K).

Anyone have an idea as to why OnePlus removed DCI 4K?

Phone doesn't receive anything from cell network ONLY when it's connected to Wi-Fi

    Posted: 11 Jan 2021 02:31 PM PST

My girlfriend's 7T has been having this issue for over a month and I'm not really sure what to do about it, basically whenever her phone is on Wi-Fi she can't receive any calls or texts, calls go straight to voicemail and texts say "delivered" from the sender's end (usually me) but won't actually deliver until she deactivates Wi-Fi.

We originally both had this issue when we first got the phones but disabling Voice over Wi-Fi fixed it, however now that is disabled and it's only happening on her phone, not mine which is the exact same phone on the same network plan.

We haven't really tried much cause I'm not sure what could be causing it besides Vo-Wifi, has anyone else experienced anything like this?

    Carrier rant:

I'm a bit weary of going to the carrier about it cause last time we had issues they tried to say it was because of our phones except our phones are specifically the T-mobile ones and we have MetroPCS which solely uses T-mobile's network, the rep (who was also a manager) pretty much told us we could look for other answers online or just buy a new phone from them -_- not sure if they were just being lazy and trying to make a commission off of us or if they actually couldn't help us but 2 days later we fixed the issue on our own, which was to just turn off Vo-Wifi.

Oneplus 7 Pro - Calls always start with low volume?

    Posted: 11 Jan 2021 01:07 PM PST

I'm having an issue where every time I either make or receive a phone call, the volume of the call seems to reset itself to almost zero, so I have to rush to increase it to max before the other person picks up. Has anybody else had this issue and how did you fix it?

Bu default I keep all my volume levels maxed out, but for whatever reason, it resets to almost nothing (where the person is just barely audible). In the "sound and vibration settings," it's maxed out. What gives?

    Question on Oneplus 8 / 8T+ for T-mobile

    Posted: 11 Jan 2021 09:57 AM PST

    hi all

I had being thinking about upgrading to OnePlus 8 or 8T+ for T-Mobile. However the reviews on t-mobile website for these phones are not exactly pretty. Can anyone that is using Oneplus 8 class on T-Mobile shed some light on issues / problems? things like terrible connections, cache issues causing slowdowns, etc.

Will I be able to utilize a Verizon Oneplus 8 5G on Tmobile?

    Posted: 11 Jan 2021 08:36 AM PST

One of my friends upgraded to a Pixel 5 and was willing to give me his Oneplus 8. The only thing is he has Verizon (bought from them) and I have Tmobile.

Will that version of the phone work for Tmobile without any missing features? If there are missing features, what would they be? Usually Verizon phones don't work, but its worth asking because I haven't gotten a new phone since 2017 and things change.

    Oneplus account issues?

    Posted: 11 Jan 2021 07:21 AM PST

I'm in the UK and have recently got a oneplus 8, love the phone so far apart from the minor gripe that I can't adjust the ringer and notification volumes independently, I wanted to create a oneplus account so I could be active in the community, but it won't let me, anyone else had this and resolved it?

    Oneplus 8T no wallpaper option?

    Posted: 11 Jan 2021 06:05 AM PST

I was wondering if there was a no wallpaper or solid color background option. I'm used to turning on high contrast mode and running a solid color background. I was looking through the settings and saw some accessibility options but haven't tried them as of yet. I'm using the dark mode currently and it's okay but could use some tweaks for my use case. Can I just use the stock accessibility for high contrast again without the inversion features? No avenue to use dark mode and a solid color background stock or is it buried somewhere I haven't looked yet?
