Google Play Policy Update: CRM apps allowed access to call logs and sms Posted: 01 Jan 2021 04:24 AM PST Hi redditors, Back in November (dates vary), google issued this policy update effectively allowing business and enterprise CRM apps access to sms and call log data. Could someone explain to me in basic language what these means from a privacy stand point and what apps exist currently that have benefitted from this exemption. Thanks :) [link] [comments] |
Heart rate monitoring app with always-on-top overlay? Posted: 01 Jan 2021 08:02 AM PST I like to watch Netflix, Hulu, etc while I'm working out on a stationary bike, but I also need to monitor my heart rate. I've ordered a Polar H9 heart rate monitor chest strap with bluetooth. I know there are plenty of apps that can link with this sensor and monitor my heart rate, but are there any that will display my heart rate as an overlay while I'm watching video on my phone? My searches have come up empty so far. I could use a wrist display, but I'd rather not have to look down at it constantly to see where my heart rate is at. Having the video and heart rate all on one screen would be perfect. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 01 Jan 2021 10:43 AM PST My friend who's been a self-taught musician for 10 years hit a plateau and realized he needed to understand music theory in order to progress in his ability to make music. After downloading tons of apps and tools he still just couldn't get it. So he basically disappeared into his bedroom for 3 years getting super weird (his words) and going down tons of rabbit holes that led him to Da Vinci's notebooks, the laws of nature, and him regularly consulting a shaman trying to come up with a way to help him learn. He first started by constructing a wooden Circle of Fifths like device to begin working things out in his head and to understand what kind of tool he would need to express everything he was learning. It was at that stage he came to me and our friend who is an app developer and we started developing the Chordly app combining everything in his head creating a new UI that combines colors, Chords, Progressions, and even the ability to switch between 440hz & 432hz frequencies. Being a musician he has many friends who also play music and for his small group of friends, the app has become indispensable and really improved all their understanding, abilities, and their music. We finally feel like we have enough initial evidence to see if others find it useful and want to eventually release it on the app store. We will give anyone who volunteers to try it out and provide feedback a lifetime free access to it and any other accompanying apps we create (we also want to do about 7 - 9 other music apps using the basic framework specific to guitar, singing, keeping time, etc.). We will also donate free lifetime access in your honor to a musician who's been negatively affected by COVID this year. There's absolutely no commitment required beyond just answering some questions for us about your experience using it. If you'd like to volunteer to try it out before we launch you can just sign up on our website and once we are ready to start testing we will provide you all the details. Thanks for your attention if you made it this far and hopefully we can offer you all something you love! Also, appreciate hearing about your pain points when it comes to chord progressions and music theory. Stay safe & happy. PS if this sounds interesting to you an upvote would be dope :) [link] [comments] |
AI-based Price Tracking app that works with almost all online shops! Posted: 01 Jan 2021 02:18 AM PST App: PriceBot I've just released an Android app that allows you to track the price of a product that you are interested in, and receive notifications when the price changes. It is compatible with almost all online shops because it uses AI to "read" the product web page in the same way that a human would to find the product's price, so all you need to do is copy the product URL and then open the app. Any feedback would be great! Play Store: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.buneme.pricebot&ref=reddit Thanks in advance! [link] [comments] |

An app to hide [white] splashcreens Posted: 01 Jan 2021 10:16 AM PST Is there any app that allows user to either hide splashscreen or cover splashscreens with some picture? While I believe android is a great OS for customizing settings to my liking, I am tired of blank, white splashscreens while 99% of my SoT is browsing with dark mode. [link] [comments] |

Is there an Android file manager to access the 2nd partition of my SD card? Posted: 01 Jan 2021 05:46 AM PST Would like to be able to access the home directory of my Raspberry Pi SD card, however, when I insert it, only the first partition (boot) is recognized by my stock file manager, while I don't have access to the second (home) partition. My guess is that if I swap the partitions, and make the home partition the first partition, then my Android phone will recognize the home partition successfully, but I would prefer not to go this route. Anyone using cloudplayer to manage playlists? Posted: 01 Jan 2021 06:24 AM PST I've always kept my music library offline and used poweramp. I've recently switched to Google drive storage and cloudplayer (platinum) and really liking it. I usually play specific artists or albums but I'm trying out playlists for the first time. I just want to ensure I'm doing it in a future proof way. Creating and updating playlists in cloudplayer works fine but I don't see any option to really export or transfer (and I really don't want to be locked in to something I can't transfer to a new phone or a different player easily). Apparently cloudplayer can pickup m3u files in Drive but it's not a great way to easily make/update lists. There's an option under Twist Pass but I'm not sure it'll do exactly what I want and seems a bit much to play monthly just for the future option of exporting playlists. So how do others manage playlists? [link] [comments] |

Need a launcher which shows number of new messages on app icons, even if there is no notification Posted: 01 Jan 2021 07:17 AM PST Examples: Feed reader should show number of new articles on homescreen. E-Mail-App, WhatsApp etc. should show number of new messages. And please do so with notifications for those apps removed or disabled. At the moment it works with Nova Launcher and plugin TeslaUnread. With upcoming new version 7 of Nova Launcher this is not supported anymore. Any alternatives? [link] [comments] |
A simple but functional daily journal app? Posted: 31 Dec 2020 08:50 PM PST I'm looking for a simple yet functional daily journaling app that has a simple design. Open source would be a cherry on top. [link] [comments] |
Do you use a product to do SMS/Texting from your PC/laptop browser? Posted: 01 Jan 2021 08:58 AM PST I use MightyText for the last 5 years. Very handy. But, I am on the $40/year Pro plan. Not even sure why I got on the paid plan. Oh, right, I upgraded to the Pro paid version due to No Sending Limits, 75 messages/month cap in the free version. Is there an alternate product that allows me to type and read SMS texts from my desktop PC browser? I'd think Google would integrate Chrome plug in with an Android device? Just use this? Or Microsoft? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 01 Jan 2021 08:52 AM PST So I know this is oddly specific but I'm at my wit's end trying to figure this out. We live out in the middle of nowhere so our phone data (full bars service from Verizon somehow) is our only source of internet, so I use a USB tether through PDAnet (for avoiding hotspot data cap) on a phone to a laptop that is then connected from its ethernet port to a router's WAN port, which then provides a "pure" WiFi connection to the rest of the house (PDAnet's native Direct WiFi hotspot setup is useless for any device that can't use the PDAnet app on its own end). I recently set this up (i.e. actually utilizing a router instead of Windows Hotspot) and it's worked great but we're STILL having this same issue that was happening back on the old Hotspot configuration. So now that I have an actual interface to configure the connection (i.e. the router config page) I was hoping I could finally address this issue. Basically whenever I try to load a video on the Playstation Network store from my PS4/PS5 connected to said WiFi or when I use the Netflix app on my Chromecast + Google TV also on the WiFi network, something is pinging back to the initial PDAnet connection so that it gets "unchecked" on both the phone's app as well as the desktop app, thus killing my entire network until I manually turn both back on. Going through Netflix in the laptop browser, using literally any app other than Netflix on the Chromecast + Google TV, and using PSN for any purpose besides loading videos in the store all work perfectly fine. I'm thinking is has to do with some sort of location check but I have no idea what else I can adjust in any of the device's settings or the router config page to fix this. Trying to turn location tracking on/off on both the phone and laptop has no effect, but I know Netflix can be weird about location (i.e. different content for different regions and people using VPNs to get around said location issue) and I know PSN does something similar (i.e. different content based on different regions again). Can anyone point me in the right direction as to what exactly is different about these two scenarios that causes PDAnet to "nope" out of the situation, and what else I can try to adjust to remedy the issue? Posted: 01 Jan 2021 05:55 AM PST I have trouble focusing on working when I've moved from ios to android. Because the downtime can't be turned off that allows me to do things. In android 10 one ui 2.5, I've not found an app that can do the same. I'm looking for an app that has that same feature in android. [link] [comments] |
Putting apps on the SD-card, instead of the phone's memory Posted: 01 Jan 2021 11:46 AM PST (If I am wrong here, please give me a hint to were I could ask this question) Hey everybody! I got gifted a Huawai VNS-L212 a few weeks ago and I already run into trouble with the memory's capacity. I already put in a BIG SD card, and I can easily put my photos on there - but unfortunally it doesn't seem to work for apps. Can I somehow safe the apps on the SD card? [link] [comments] |

(Request) Looking for a password manager with these features. Posted: 01 Jan 2021 06:18 AM PST A category option to make labels or folders, for example, you can make different folders for different types of websites and put account details into that folder. Also if the password manager has a working autofill. Finally if this manager has a one time payment for pro but not a subscription. [link] [comments] |
Playing video files on android from windows (SMB) share Posted: 01 Jan 2021 03:24 AM PST Does anyone know of an app that allows a windows share to be mounted so that you can open the file (specifically video files in my case) using any local app? I've used Solid Explorer which acts as a client to the Windows Share but it doesn't actually mount the share. Video files can be opened via Solid Explorer's implementation of a streaming server but it doesn't allow all video apps to open it. For example, it lets MX player open it but not VLC and mpv-android. This is okay most of the time but occasionally I run across a video where MX player can't load subtitles for or renders the subtitles incorrectly (too small, etc). I've tried VLC's SMB client in the past but found the UI rather annoying - whenever you navigate back to the directory you were in, it scrolls you all the way back to the top so you have to scroll back down to find what you were originally watching. I think sometimes the streamed video also has unwatchable artifacting. MX player and VLC offer a lot of features but because of the reasons above, I would prefer to just use mpv-android which just works for me. But it has no SMB support (as far as I'm aware) so I'm looking for a way around it. Google's deprecated Android Samba Client (v1.1 on APK mirror) seems to work but it's quirky and annoying to use. It doesn't remember mount details so you have to enter the path and credentials everytime the app is opened. (Edit: actually, it might remember it. It seems the mount can only be taken advantage of by the default Downloads or Files app and the shared Windows folder appears in the sidebar. This might be my final solution then.) Does anyone know an alternative to Android Samba Client? [link] [comments] |
