$Any || Large screen || AMD preferred || Excel machine || No gaming Posted: 01 Jan 2021 04:10 AM PST Hello, here's to a great 2021! Thanks for the help. · Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US: Any (USD) USA · Are you open to refurbs/used? Yes · How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life? Not terrible build quality. The rest doesn't matter. I'm sure it'd suffice. · How important is weight and thinness to you? Doesn't matter. · Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. ~15.5" with a wide bezel would work but --16"+ would be great and preferred. · Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. No. Web browsing & Excel. · If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? No. · Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? 1) Preferably AMD. latest gen (4000s) would be nice but doesn't have to be. 2) No discrete GPU. · Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. This laptop is for a friend. She mainly cares about the screen at least looking large. The drive and RAM likely don't matter since it can be replaced. [link] [comments] |
Is there an opinion on build quality between MSI vs Razer? Posted: 01 Jan 2021 03:40 AM PST Every now and then I ogle at these slim gaming laptops and come close to purchasing. It's pretty much a yearly ritual and I'm doing this again now lol. I always seem to come back to MSI stealth vs. Razer blade. I can see that you tend to get better spec for your money with MSI stealths, but then the blades seem to get away with a better overall image/reputation? I'm trying to look up if this is because there's maybe a general consensus that they're longer lasting / have a better build quality? Or maybe some other reason? Thanks guys. [link] [comments] |
Choosing between these 2 Acer Laptops Posted: 01 Jan 2021 03:22 AM PST Hello, I'm about to order a new laptop but i'm a bit conflicted between these 2 I'll be occasionally using the laptop, mostly for light video edit and playing some MOBA games, and student work! That's all about it! Does it make any sense to spend the extra bucks for the i7 and the extra ram, or am i good with the i5 and 8gb? Thanks and happy new year! [link] [comments] |
Laptop for video editing under/around $1000 Posted: 31 Dec 2020 11:34 PM PST Hi I'm looking for a durable laptop which can handle video editing software seamlessly with no lag/issue at all. As in that's what I would mainly like to use it for Performance is basically my only criteria, battery life is only relatively important and design/weight can come in as tiebreakers if the differences are negligible. I've done a few google and YouTube searches but I'd like to get your suggestions before making a decision. Looking for gaming laptop around $500 Posted: 31 Dec 2020 08:56 PM PST That's pretty much the Jist of what I'm looking for since I don't Know what to look for. I just want a laptop that can run games like Minecraft with some mods, val or csgo as I've always wanted to try them, and well idk what else interest me, maybe rust or mw. I remember being recommended a really good laptop but Walmart doesn't carry it anymore. Would appreciate anything [link] [comments] |
Need a cheap laptop only for a few months Posted: 01 Jan 2021 02:49 AM PST So I'm studying for one year abroad. At my home country I already a have a good desktop PC, so I've never felt the need of owning a laptop. Now I'm struggling a bit with only a tablet with online school. I want this laptop to run zoom and a simple word processor to take notes at the same time. I don't really need anything else, really. With the tablet I can already run many things, but I miss a proper OS (having folders, windows side by side, etc). Once summer comes and I'm finished with school, I wouldn't use it anymore (maybe I'd resell or keep it in case of emergency).

3 rd Party Warranty for laptops in Canada Posted: 01 Jan 2021 02:34 AM PST Hello Everyone, I have a Lenovo laptop around 4 years old. It originally had a 3 year warranty plan that ran out last year. I contacted lenovo for an extension , but unfortunately they said they can only extend warranty only once. Can anyone suggest a good 3rd party warranty (With accidental protection if possible) in Canada? It will also help if they offer warranties for other brads as well other than lenovo. Thanks in advance [link] [comments] |

I also wish to have 2 docking stations for work and home so I can quickly connect monitors/internet/keyboard/speakers. Needs Windows Pro. I was looking at a T490s or Thinkpad X1 Carbon, but to be honest, I'm completely lost with all the options and pricing... Thank you all in advance for any help, much appreciated! [link] [comments] |

Was debating on the new Apple MacBook Air M1 chip with the added option of 16gb ram or the Asus G14. Gaming is not really a priority but I wouldn't mind if I could game. Mostly only play single player/fighting games. [link] [comments] |

Looking for a laptop for drawing/programming/school? Under/around ~$2.5k Posted: 31 Dec 2020 04:52 PM PST Hello! I thought this would be the best place to get opinions. Ive been looking for a laptop for a while- for reference the Surface Book 3 peaked my interest. I'd like it to be a 2-in-1 and fairly small so Im not breaking my back walking around with it in my backpack. Upgradable would be wonderful as well, although its not required. Was wondering if there were any more good options I should look at? I'd like for it to be able to handle some basic compiling as far as programming goes. Im working mostly in C++ currently.

not sure if these are good choices? Posted: 31 Dec 2020 04:38 PM PST I'm looking for a new laptop on a pretty tight budget. Requirements for the laptop are: run minecraft decently (right now i get around 100 fps). Possibly run GTA V but that's not as important, whereas minecraft is a must. And just generally not be incredibly slow. The laptop i currently have is an Asus X411UA with intel core i5-8250U, but i need a new one because its broken. My current laptop is pretty good but i would like something slightly better/faster. I don't really know what to look for in laptops so here are 2 that i found, are any of these good for what i want? If not, do you have any recommendations? (my budget is £300-£400, possibly up to £500) [link] [comments] |

Posted: 31 Dec 2020 05:12 PM PST Hello everyone! I'm not very tech savvy so I need your personal opinions please. I'm starting my own podcast/live streaming and video editing desk setup in 2021. I'm looking to find what processor/computer AND SPECS** I should use for my equipment (no gaming). I was looking into the MacBook Pro 16 but I've heard horror stories (burning out) of previous generations of MacBooks. However I really like the idea of portability of the MacBook. I've also considered building a PC but I prefer a MacBook unless you guys suggest otherwise. thanks I'm advance!! [link] [comments] |
Looking at this ASUS Vivobook on sale right now. Is it a good buy even with the older gen processor? Posted: 31 Dec 2020 01:23 PM PST Looking at this ASUS right now with the Core i7-10th gen. Will primarily use it for content creation in Premiere and light Photoshop. I have been hearing that the 4000 series from AMD trumps whatever Intel has to offer, so should I find a different laptop that has Ryzen? Any other recomendations below $1000 CAD is appreciated!
