    Reinstall Microsoft Store app

    Posted: 22 Jan 2021 06:20 PM PST

Some time ago I uninstalled the store app from windows. Apparently that was a bad idea because none of the guides i followed would reinstall it. Winreset, powershell scripts, refreshing my installation, nothing worked. I learned that this is intended behavior.

Well I just downloaded the xbox app from here and learned it can actually reinstall the windows store app. I haven't seen this solution anywhere else online so I just wanted to post it somewhere in case it helps someone else.

Sorry if this post isn't allowed here. If you point me somewhere else I'd be happy to post it there.

Help! Windows installer stuck in a BSoD loop!

    Posted: 22 Jan 2021 08:28 PM PST

Does anyone know how to fix this? I just built my first pc, and every time I attempt to install Windows 10 from my bootable USB drive, my installer blue screens and says "IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL". It gets stuck in a loop of this. Does anyone know what could be causing this or how to fix it? I'll provide the data about what I'm booting on and from below (I'm a beginner so sorry if I don't know some stuff):

Booting from: PNY 64GB USB 3.0 Flash Drive made into a bootable usb with windows 10 installation media program thing on laptop.

    Booting onto: AsRock 970m pro3 AMD FX-8370 20GB mixed DDR3 1600 GTX 1060 6GB Seagate firecuda 1TB Hybrid SSHD

    Thank you guys so much.

I have windows 10 20H2 Single Language (Arabic). If I factory reset the computer, will I be able to choose another language (English)?

    Posted: 22 Jan 2021 08:22 PM PST

So yesterday I upgraded from windows 8.1 to windows 10 but I couldn't change the language because it's Single Language Edition. It's not my main computer so I felt it's not worth it all to pay ~$200 to upgrade to pro only to change the language. I couldn't find the .cab to install the language package (I heard Microsoft replaced it with something called EPX but I didn't understand exactly how) file and almost gave up so I thought the only way may be to factory reset the computer (although it has so much memories that I need to backup etc).. but before I do all that mess I want to make sure if this gonna or not.. does anyone have an idea?

[HELP] Can't seem to connect to my computer's share despite correct password...

[HELP] Can't seem to connect to my computer's share despite correct password...

I've been setting up my new laptop and I wanted to connect to it from another PC to deposit some files on it. However every time I try to connect using my Microsoft Account credentials, it throws an error that it doesn't recognize the provided username or password. The Event Viewer on the target PC shows as follows in the Security logs:

    https://preview.redd.it/psr3j38huzc61.png?width=1357&format=png&auto=webp&s=112c8645d61be215f4e4d3c4f4d29022ca3427c0

I don't have any problem doing this for any of my other PCs (they can connect to each other using my MS Account credentials). I also have this issue when I try to hit it from RDP (again, not a problem for my other PCs connecting to each other). The laptop should be properly set up for sharing files but I've never encountered this before. The laptop can reach the other PCs in my network with the same credentials, it's just a problem for establishing inbound connections.

All the advice I can find about this issue pertains to being inside a domain so I don't know how it relates to trying to connect over a workgroup (and, again, it's not like the other PCs in my network have any issues connecting to each other in the same fashion).

I notice the Security ID field reads "NULL SID", which isn't true when the other PCs connect to each other (successful connections between those systems populate this field). That have something to do with it?

    Cannot click in taskbar

    Posted: 22 Jan 2021 02:04 PM PST

Hello, I am experiencing a bizarre problem that has never happened before. Excluding apps, I cannot click on anything in my taskbar (search bar, cortana, battery settings, wifi settings, onscreen windows key and more). The only things I can click are apps in my taskbar. My browser shut down unexpectedly, and since I could not go to the start menu, I could not reopen the browser. Why can't I go to the start menu, you may ask? The button on the keyboard is unresponsive as well. Thank you, it is appreciated.

    Virtual Box Question

    Posted: 22 Jan 2021 04:32 PM PST

    Good Day All,

Noob and 2013 MacBook Air user here.

I just purchased a 2TB SSD from Samsung and I would like to use it to install Windows 10 ISO.

How much space would you guys recommend I use to make it run well on the SSD? (RAM, GB, etc.)

This will initially be for practicing on a Windows OS, then I desire to use this virtual machine professionally.

Thank you in advance for whoever can guide me through this. Thank you.

BSOD DPC WATCHDOG VIOLATION Windows 10 Laptop (No Dump Generated)

    Posted: 22 Jan 2021 03:35 PM PST

Hi, I have a problem with DPC WATCHDOG VIOLATION BSOD on my Xiaomi Mi Air 12.5 (with one original ssd and one sabrent PCIe where windows is installed)

    Step to reproduce:

    1. Close the top lid of the laptop
    2. Plug the charger
    3. Open the top lid of the laptop
    4. BSOD DPC WATCHDOG VIOLATION (getting info on the error stuck at 0%)

I tried to follow all the online guides (and reddit) to generate dumps for this issue, but windows can't generate dump (error volmgr 141). I tried to generate the dump on the other ssd but no success.

I tried also to install windows on the other ssd but no success (same dpc watchdog, same steps to reproduce).

Paging and dump settings all ok, I tried everithing that I found online.

Someone have any clue on how I could fix this problem?

    Can't burn windows 10 to a DVD+R

    Posted: 22 Jan 2021 03:26 PM PST

Hey r/Windows. I'm at my wits end trying to get an hp pavilion p6330f upgraded with an ssd. It's bios won't boot from a USB device so I can't set up the ssd using a USB, so I decided to try and make an iso disk using the DVD burner and a 4.7 gb dvd+r. According to windows this is large enough for the install but it's still giving me an error saying the disk isn't big enough. Any ideas? I tried to track down the windows 7 iso but I can't seem to find it anywhere. I appreciate any and all help you guys have for me.

    CPU Usage Spike/Playback Problem (Youtube)

    Posted: 22 Jan 2021 02:44 PM PST

Hey, so I've been having a recent (as in the past 3 days recent) problem. Most of the time when I watch Youtube, my CPU usage spikes to over 90%, and then at some point while watching the video speeds up dramatically, while the audio remains as it was. Then the the video freezes, and when the audio finally catches up to where the video freezes, I get the buffer wheel, and my CPU usage drops to normal levels. If I wait, eventually the video will start again only to immediately encounter the same Audio/Video desync and I'm back to staring at the buffer wheel (the CPU usage also spikes during this time). The only thing that seems to allow proper playback is to drop the resolution of the video to 480p. Can anyone help me figure out what is happening, and/or help me fix the issue?

    Things of note:

    • My playback speed is almost always at x2, though this problem persists at lower speeds, it just takes longer for the problem to come up
    • When I'm getting the buffer wheel, the timeline indicates that the video is already buffered
    • This problem occurs regardless of whether or not Hardware Acceleration is enabled. It just takes much longer for the problem to come up when HA is enabled
    • I am on Chrome
    • In my attempt to diagnose/fix the problem I forced the YT Codec to use H.264 using the h264ify extension, this only delays the onset of the problem
    • My internet speed is pretty fast (120MBPS down)
    • My computer is running an i7-6700 CPU and GTX 1080 Graphics Card

E: After encountering it a few more times, I have to make a correction: The audio never "catches up" to where the video freezes, it stops and hits the buffer wheel soon after the video speeds up

I reinstalled windows on another hard drive but i do not see it in the BIOS

    Posted: 22 Jan 2021 02:41 PM PST

I'll try to make this short

I re-installed W10 on my Adata SSD, it went fine, but i cannot select it in the default boot option in the BIOS, i can only see my current PNY SSD. I could actually see my ADATA SSD before converting it from MSR to GPT because i couldn't install windows without converting it.

Now whenever i boot into my current PNY SSD it asks me which windows version to run, even when my ADATA SSD isn't plugged, it's like my ADATA SSD is a partition of my PNY SSD, when they're both standalone drives. And when i select the windows version of the adata SSD without plugging it in my PC via SATA, it tells me that files are missing with this error screen, and when it's plugged in it boots properly.

I tried converting it back to MSR but that didn't change anything.

What i want to be able to do is like i always experienced it, i have my 2 drives with windows on them, and whichever i put into boot priority number 1 in the bios, the windows installed in the n°1 boot priority runs, and i don't have to choose which version to run on every startup

    Anybody can help ? Thanks

    Video playback skips forward

    Posted: 22 Jan 2021 02:32 PM PST

Recently when I play videos on websites, not youtube, it will start playing then the video fast forwards and pauses while the audio stays normal.

It's happened on both Chrome and Edge so I figured it's a Windows problem. Thanks.
