Posted: 02 Dec 2020 04:46 AM PST I am aware of how to hide the icon from my taskbar, and I am aware that it was packaged with Windows with an update. I don't want Windows to change my computer with updates. The only use I have for updates is for security reasons. I don't like having my operating system changed on me without my permission. How do I remove Meet Now entirely from my computer, has Windows installed other unwanted programs without my permission which I might be unaware of, and how do I stop Windows from doing this? Why does Windows insist on changing everything every two weeks? Just let me breathe and try to get used to the new OS. I can't do that if you keep changing things. And stop installing new things on my computer without my permission. I don't have room for all this nonsense I have no use for. My computer is for the things I want to use it for. I purchased it as is. I spent a lot of money on my computer for it to be the way it was when I purchased it. I don't want it to change. Products shouldn't change into other products after you've paid for them. That should be illegal. I paid for a specific product and I would like to have it back. I paid for it, after all. Windows 10 is corrupting my usb drives, any thoughts? Posted: 02 Dec 2020 08:47 PM PST I have had the wildest issue since around July 15th of 2020. TLDR- My pc is (seemingly) randomly corrupting usb3 spinning drives. I have a PC build, used mostly for film work/gaming. It has 2 internal drives, one spinning one solid. I also use a rotating cast of usb3 drives, some powered, others bus powered. I was working one day in July when my software started behaving VERY strangely. Eventually it just said my source media was offline. I checked the drive and it was shown as connected in the "devices and drives" list of icons but had no storage bar under it. It was connected but had somehow become unmounted. I ran chkdsk /f which brought it back but the work file I was in was gone, as was a random assortment of other files from the past few days. chkdsk /r or recuva, disk drill, or others did not bring the files back to life. I assumed it was that hard drive, backed everything up, and set to work on a new usb drive. This new drive had the same issue when I woke the pc from sleep a few days later. Connected, not mounted, chkdsk, files gone. This has happened to around 7-8 different usb 3 spinning drives I have connected now. These drives do not do this on my macbook. What is interesting, I have one usb3 ssd (the rest are spinning disks) and the usb3 ssd as well as the two internal drives are NEVER affected by this. Does anyone have trouble shooting tips? A somewhat comprehensive list of what has been tried below:

Posted: 02 Dec 2020 01:04 PM PST I see an update for v20H2 listed in my available updates, and when I look at what changes are included in the update, these are all things which appeared to go into effect today on my computer. The color of my background was changed, which is the first thing listed as included in the update. I can do the "quickly jump between open web pages" trick that it lists as included in the update. And my taskbar is acting weird -- when I have a website open, for example, the tab in the taskbar is stretched out to fill all the available space so that I have no empty space on my taskbar rather than just staying one size like it usually does. When I look at updates to uninstall, there is nothing recent to uninstall. It looks like my computer made a recovery point from a few days ago, so I am considering trying that to see if that works. Does anybody else have any suggestions on how these updates were installed and how I can get rid of them and go back to normal? [link] [comments]

window snapping randomly stopped working Posted: 02 Dec 2020 08:10 PM PST No settings have been changed from stock for how window snapping is handled and i've triple checked them multiple times in the past few days, it just randomly stopped. what's up? The only thing I've changed is getting betterdiscord and it still happens regardless of whether discord is on. I just want to be able to simultaneously resize my adjacent windows again. File History Catalog and Restoring Backup Image ... What Will Happen? Posted: 02 Dec 2020 07:34 PM PST The Windows 10 File History feature stores the configuration files and catalog files both on the local C: and the File History target drive (correct me if I'm wrong please) and keeps them in sync. Is there any documentation or accounts of what happens when someone restores a backup image of their C:? The backup image would contain a different catalog (and possibly configuration) file for File History than what is stored on the File History target. Is Windows smart enough to check which catalog is newer and use that one? Or will it overwrite the catalog on the target drive (which would result in some lost history). Or does it throw an error? Is this an official hp application? (HpseuHostLauncher.exe) Posted: 02 Dec 2020 07:04 PM PST I noticed that all of my internet browsers were no letting me access certain websites, (for example, "Hmmm... Can't reach this page. Check if there is a typo in www.googleadservices.com.") in Opera, Google, Edge, Explorer, and Firefox. found this app in the startup section of task manager and every website said it was a virus. In the directory there is an executable called HideAll.exe, when ran it blacks out the entire screen, making me think its a RAT. any help would be appreciated, thanks [link] [comments]

Xbox One controller won't connect to my PC!?!? Posted: 02 Dec 2020 05:13 PM PST Welp.. Im looking to play some pc games with my xbox one controller that came with my original 500GB Xbox One but its just not working.. When I plug the controller into my pc it vibrates once but the xbox button does not light up. - Controller doesn't show up in device manager so I can't install the drivers even though I just updated my Windows 10 like 2 days ago.. - I manually installed Direct X End-User Runtime Web Installer and also replaced the xinput1_3.dll file located within the "system32" folder even though it was already there.. - Tried installing the Xbox Accessories app to my computer but it doesn't detect the controller, it just asks me to plug a controller in even though MY CONTROLLER IS ALREADY PLUG IN VIA MICRO-USB!! - I even tried to update my controller via my xbox one but it said it was up to date sooo.. Thats about all the "fixes" i've came across and nothing seems to be working.. Some people are saying it could be a problem with the micro-usb cable not drawing enough power/sending info back to the computer fast enough but I've tried two different micro-usb cables and both don't want to co-operate with my pc, but I can plug the controllers into my xbox one with the same two micro-usb cables and use my xbox one with the controllers so idek what to do at this point lol.. Someone please help me out here.. [link] [comments]
Posted: 02 Dec 2020 08:22 AM PST So installed a new SSD, it crashed when setting up my computer the first time... had to hard restart. Then it wouldn't accept any of my passwords, no big deal, reset microsoft/gmail password... Won't accept reset password... try and reset again. Won't take new one either after setting it up... Now it says I can't login anymore or reset password again. Anybody else run into this? No clue exactly what caused this to not read ANY of my passwords. It also failed reading my emails a few times during setup, had to bypass and do that later once the PC was up. [link] [comments]

Which low-end Webcams are completely plug `n play? Posted: 02 Dec 2020 01:01 PM PST Which low-end webcam models are completely plug n play on Windows 10 64bit (Version 1709)? I would like get it it up and running by just plugging it into USB without having to download and install any drivers/software (for basic usage). I don't need anything fancy.. as long as Windows already has builtin support for it. [link] [comments]
why cant i restart windows security? Posted: 02 Dec 2020 03:44 AM PST I noticed it the windows security thing had a little red x on it so i opened it and it says "Threat services has stopped. Restart it now" But i cant. I press it and nothing happens. I thought maybe i need to update windows, but i cant do that either. I click on the start menu or whatever it is called and nothing comes up, so i type update into the search bar and click on that and it brings a window up for a split second and then closes it. What could be causing all this? I thought maybe virus but the only thing ive downloaded recently was drivers for my new drawing tablet (from the official site) and overwolf/curseforge so i can play modded minecraft. Can't Disable FIPS on Windows 7 Posted: 02 Dec 2020 04:40 PM PST I'm trying to enable bitlocker on a windows 7 stand alone PC for work but get an error when trying to turn on bitlocker stating that FIPS is preventing passwords from being saved. It doesn't have a TPM chip so I need to use a password instead. I've disabled FIPS in the GPO, registry and tried to do it from power shelll as well and after restarting for each and doing gpudpate /force it still sees FIPS as enabled. I've even tried deleting FIPS from the registry and yet it still sees it as being enabled Has anythad his happen or have any potential solutions? Thank you. [link] [comments]
How to prevent Windows Mail from starting with Windows? Posted: 02 Dec 2020 03:06 AM PST Hi, I searched everywhere. Task manager, registry, startup folder. Even used Autoruns tool by sysinternal and there's no mention anywhere of "mail" or its exe "commsapps.exe". Yet, everytime I boot, I'm presented full screen with the Mail app. Anyone? Thanks [link] [comments]
why does the startmenu have duplicate file locations for shortcuts Posted: 02 Dec 2020 10:23 AM PST i complain a lot about windows because i am a perfectionist i don't like things not being clean, and another issue i have with windows is when i reinstall windows the startmenu contains a mess of old random ancient software like speech recognition from vista so i put everything into the one folder you can't remove which is the windows accessories folder so all of it is there now the startmenu is like an appdrawer no folders just apps and no program from the xp/vista day not a single icon before windows 10, the problem i have is i have to do this twice because they are seperated into two different locations one being, start menu programs and one being another, so i have to do this twice. Why does it use two different locations? i also hate when all of it gets reset when i update windows these are all things that bother me a lot, why can't microsoft just change the startmenu to an actual appdrawer all apps rather than thousands of folders with uninstall and readme shortcuts that barel6y anyone cares about, these are all such ancient ways that always bother me why have a this pc shortcut when it can be on the side of the startmenu like the documents button i want it there but theres no option. it is said windows 10 will go through a complete makeover next year, but will it be enough will everything from the past finally be removed? i don't want these classic icons, i don't want windows to contain any type of icon before windows 10, because i like windows 10 and only the windows 10 portion, minus the intrusive ads etc but ilike windows 10 itself, not the rest. New notebook last successful time synchronisation 2015. Is that normal? Posted: 02 Dec 2020 09:38 AM PST Hi there! My sister just got a new notebook (HP 15s-eq0355ng) and saw that the last successful time synchronisation was in 2015. Now she is scared that the notebook is an old one from 2015 (like refurbished or something). I told her that everything ist fine, but since I also wonder why that time is in the settings, I wanted to ask you all😊 Is it because Windows 10 came out in 2015 or something? [link] [comments] |
