Hi all, hope someone has any idea on how to tackle this challenge....

Our DL385 GEN10 has 24 bay SFF layout.

There's 2 HPE 200 GB SAS SSD in there to boot from (raid 1).

There are 8 pieces of 1.6 TB SAS SSD's (Toshiba PX02SMB160) as VM Storage (raid 6) in there that work flawless in there for like half a year now.

Because we got cramped in space, I found a batch of nice drives that i could buy at an interesting price, and bought 10 0,8 TB SAS SSD's (Toshiba PX02SMF080) to setup in a raid 0 setup for a somewhat risky, but crazy high speed array for testing software we develop.

However, inserting just even one of these Toshiba PX02SMF080 units (in original HPE Caddy) triggers a temperature warning. After 10 minutes of just having the server switched on (not even booted, just on in bios -> array management) made the server's fans (all of them) go to 100%.

Removing the drive took this away.

I picked up a thermometer to see if i could measure any increased temperature in the drive bay area, but there's none.

Anyone have any idea on how to get these babies going without all of my fans going at 100% (causing workers that are in the next room to wonder if the airco failed in the server room).

    Hope anyone has a clue..

    Thanks heaps for any assistance!

    Best regards,

    Mark

ASUS ROG GL553VE - not powering, LEDs not turning on

ASUS ROG GL553VE - not powering, LEDs not turning on

I got ASUS GL553VE that won't power on.After pressing power button nothing happens, but battery could be totally discharged. More important is that after plugging charger, LED won't turn on and battery isn't charging.

I opened it, at first glance everything seems fine. Charger, power port and following cable is ok (checked with multimeter).I got voltage at first MOSFET source but no voltage at gate or drain. At schematic I can see that below mosfet are two pins, seems like they should be connected via capacitor of some sort. But there's no such thing at motherboard. After shorting those two pins my charger breaker cuts power off.

I'm pretty sure that when I checked first, there was voltage at both MOSFETs but despite it nothing happened.

Does anyone encountered something like that?

    Something bad has happened

    Posted: 30 Dec 2020 08:31 AM PST

    Dear all,

    Asus gaming laptop (GL552V)

Working fine last night. Turning on just now and only a few buttons on the keyboard are working, maybe half. Keyboard backlight also not working.

I didnt spill anything on it, but that's the only help I can offer.

    TIA

Update - I opened her up, and it looks like the wire for the keyboard has overheated and broken, as well as melting through some of the plastic underneath. Pics attached.

What kind of a job is it to replace this?

    Potential advanced malware? Please help!!

    Posted: 29 Dec 2020 08:05 PM PST

I downloaded from my (now not so trusted) local tracker software that ended up making my pc weird in a bad way. It didn't show up on scans with avg malwarebtes or autoruns/process monitor but I am very sure it was malware. I did a fresh install on my pc but the problem persists and it's scarry. When I right click on Avg in the bottom right tray area,, my cursor moves on it's own further right. In my eyes it's clearly some kind of malware or traces of it. I really need help because it freaks me out since I did 100% clean OS install

Edit : I can access avg it's just that the tray the tray icon moves my cursor

UPDATE : turns out this behaviour happens on multiple computers. It's a bug(or deature) from AVG/AVAST I think

Mobo detects boht RAM sticks but only uses one of them

    Posted: 30 Dec 2020 03:13 AM PST

    specs:

    CPU: Intel i7-4790

    MOBO: ASUS B85M-G

    RAM 2x4gb ddr3 1600MHz HyperX Fury

    GPU: MSI Ventus RTX 2060

    Userbenchmark: https://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/37599554

my problem is that my motherboard only use one stick of RAM

    what i've tried so far:

    • Reseated both sticks alone and in pairs in all of the slots
    • Checked andvanced options for systemboat through msconfig (which says maximum memory is 4gb)
    • Tried using older and slower (1333MHz) ddr3 ram sticks, and got the exact same result were the computer would detect the full amount of ram but only use one stick.

so both sticks works well on their own in every slot on the motherboard. The PC detects both sticks in the bios menu aswell in the taskmanager. But when i plug in both RAM sticks the bios detects them being in the correct sockets and with the correct amount and speed the same in taskmanager. But in taskmanager it says that only 3.5 gb are usable.

Thanks in advance for reading this and helping me.

    Failing Drive or Windows Issue?

    Posted: 30 Dec 2020 12:50 AM PST

I built a rather high-end PC for my partner earlier this year and now they've run into an issue. Seemingly after a Windows update (not immediately after, but occurring after) on the 24th, they began having issues with their PC. Namely,

    • D: drive disappeared from Windows, only coming back after several resrarts

    • After the final restart, Windows displayed a "disk repair" screen I'd never seen before

    • Went from downloading multi-gig files in less than a minute to download speeds averaging of 250kb/s (despite having unthrottled gigabit downloads). This is to any drive

    • After a day of working fine after the Windows disk repair, the slow downloads resumed.

We are currently checking to see if removing the D:/ drive helps in this instance. A synthetic benchmark (from Samsung Magician) showed all the drives performing at the same level as mine - we have essentially identical drives.

    Specs'

    • Ryzen 9 3900X
    • ASUS Strix x570-e Gaming
    • 32GB Corsair RGB Pro RAM
    • EVGA RTX 2070 Super
    • Corsair 1000W PSU
    • 512GB Samsung 970 Pro
    • 2 x 2TB Samsung 860 Evo
    • 2TB Intel 660p (The D:/ drive)

Just bought corsair HS35 headset mic no work

    Posted: 30 Dec 2020 12:18 AM PST

Just bought Corsair HS35 stereo headset and the headphones themselves are great, however the mic doesn't seem to be working. So I found a previous post on this reddit talking about either using a usb sound card, or a 3.5mm to usb adapter to get it working. My friend ended up buying the HS45's and he said they work fine with his audio jack so I asked him if I could borrow his adapter since he didn't need it. However that doesn't seem to work so I'm wondering if anyone has an idea of how I could fix this? Many thanks in advance
