Upgrading Windows 7 to Windows 10 help Posted: 30 Nov 2020 11:48 AM PST I'm pretty clueless on all this sound I really need some help. My PC is currently on Windows 7 and I'm wanting to upgrade to Windows 10 since 7 is no longer receiving support. Is there any ways of me doing this for free without having to pay for a £120+ key? (Yes I know I am cheap before I get any comments saying so haha.) [link] [comments]
Windows 10 computer running super slow when running games Posted: 30 Nov 2020 03:33 PM PST Running a game like Roblox screws the computer up... though only a little bit? Only the Roblox window lags, and I can't seem to fix it. Another problem is: the computer screen's too bright (yes i've tinkered with the small sun button) and won't go dimmer. [link] [comments]
For some reason i have Wu10Man installed Posted: 30 Nov 2020 03:28 PM PST So I just got this new laptop that didn't have an OS and I took advantage of the situation by getting this shop to replace the HDD with an SSD and install Windows 10 Pro and I saw that Wu10Man was installed and I only know it disables updates, any idea on why it was installed? How I got rid of 100% disk usage Posted: 30 Nov 2020 03:09 PM PST Step one : start the program "registry editor" from you search menu Step two : navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\policies\Microsoft\windows\DataCollection Step three : Right click the large white space to the right of the file menu, create a new 32 DWORD. Step four : name this DWORD "Allow Telemetry" written exactly as it's shown here, and make sure the value is set to 0 Step five : watch in awe as your disk usage plummets Background : Telemetry is a data collection service from Windows. By adding this DWORD to the registry, and entering 0 as the value, you're essentially creating a switch and flipping it to the off position. This program seems to cause a lot of problems with disk usage, couldn't find any solution anywhere. I stumbled upon this online and it worked for me, so I thought I'd share. EDIT: PLEASE do a backup of your computer before making any changes to the registry ever, as it can break things. [link] [comments]
Paste image directly to a new file? Posted: 30 Nov 2020 07:16 AM PST The new screen capture in W10 is awesome (it's really quick to copy an image to the buffer with the Windows+Shift+S combination). But it would be even better to be able to store this image directly into a new file. Either in a predefined directory, or when we Ctrl+V somewhere on the disk. Does anyone know a way to do that? (by using a third party software, probably) [link] [comments]
Posted: 30 Nov 2020 01:09 PM PST So I woke up to see my computer updating. Windows has started updating it self as it normal does. But the problem is that it's at 30% and has been for over 3 hours now it hasn't moved from 30%. In my experience Windows updates never take this long. So I'm worried that it froze or something. I mean the dot circle is still moving at the top but it still hasn't changed from 30%. So what do I do? Do I just leave it and let it keep going in hopes that it finishes? Or do I hold the power button until it shuts off then turn it back on. I know it says not to turn it off but it's been over 3 hours now and it's still at 30%. [link] [comments]

Posted: 30 Nov 2020 02:11 PM PST I see it every time in my Event Viewer. Everything causes it. Virus scans, SFC checks, having a browser open for too long, having the Event Viewer open for too long, having Task Manager open for too long, renaming files, copying, pasting, playing a video game, using my DAW etc. Every time I get a DCOM error, my computer crashes. Why does this happen and how do I fix it? [link] [comments]
Application Can Block Access To Computer, But... Posted: 30 Nov 2020 05:46 PM PST I have trouble with self-control and the internet, being a minor addict. So I downloaded an app (Cold Turkey Blocker - not from the Microsoft Store) that blocks access to my laptop (Windows 10) for a set amount of time. During that time, whenever I insert my PIN it automatically sends me back to the sign-in screen - until the block time is over. I love this feature, but I had a scare recently when I noticed that it blocked access past the time I had set for it. So my question is, supposing that the app gets stuck forever and never lets me get past the sign-in page, how could I regain access? [link] [comments]
My external hard drive is not being recognized. Posted: 30 Nov 2020 05:04 PM PST I have an old internal sata hdd from an old computer that has some pictures on it that I would like to extract. I bought an enclosure for the drive, but when I connect it to my computer it wont read the drive. A message pops up that says it needs to be formatted. Is there any other way that I can recover the files? [link] [comments]
My mic on my headset (Razer Kraken) does not work on my Acer Predator Helios Laptop. Posted: 30 Nov 2020 01:02 PM PST I have tried almost everything I can think of. I am currently trying to redownload Realtek HD Audio Manager, which is not working. I downloaded it once 2 days ago, and it allowed my mic to work, yet it made the mic and audio quality very muffled. I deleted it, and now I think that if I download it again, I might be able to get it to work normally. However, when I try to download it now, it fails to download. I have tried deleting the audio driver I have now, but it keeps re-downloading it. Long story short, I need help. [link] [comments]
Posted: 30 Nov 2020 04:09 PM PST I'm basically pasting the complaint email I sent to Lenovo, but I wanted this to gain as much attention as I could. My blood is boiling from the blatant mistreatment I've received from Lenovo and their laughable attempts at customer service. I'm 22, a young professional who joined the workforce in September after graduating from college this year. I bought a Lenovo Yoga c740, a decision I didn't take lightly as my first "big boy" investment. Two reasons for buying the laptop was to replace my ol' reliable that while getting me through college was most definitely on its last legs and the fact that I wanted a quality device built for portability and performance. I got the Yoga c740 14" in July and loved the laptop from day one, so impressed and in awe at its 2-in-1 features. It was solid for two months, mind you I didn't use it for anything too intensive just study and then later work. Bit of gaming on the side that it didn't handle too well, sending the fan into overload but it was my laptop, I felt justified in spending close to a grand on something and was happy with my choice having spent weeks teethering around which device to pick. In September, my mood quickly shifted. It was a Monday morning, my second week of work and I was settling in to get logged in. I had used the laptop the night before to study for the CFA exam I hope to be sitting at some point in the future but that's not the point right now. The laptop wouldn't turn on. My shiny, spanking new laptop wouldn't turn on despite only being two months old. Of course I was anxious, panicked about not being able to log into my new job, so I rang the Lenovo customer support asap, and was greeted by zero empathy. Admittedly I was probably not in the nicest of moods, but the service rep acted as if I had shot her cat, she had no patience whatsoever acting as if I had took a hammer to the device for the sake of it, condemning me for being unable to reset the device after it wouldn't turn on from several attempts of holding the power button for different lengths of time or using the keyhole option on the back. Begrudgingly, the rep recommended the best course of option was to send the device in for repair, shipping it to their technicians with a turnaround of 15 working days. 15. I reluctantly accepted as really what choice did I have, I was already an hour late for work. Desparately I kept retrying every attempt to reset the device, eventually deciding to run to the nearest corner computer shop to get it fixed, and somehow once the shop assistant touches the laptop, it's back on. Teasing me, completely fine. The laptop worked completely as normal for the rest of the day, with me tentatively turning it on and off to check I wasn't in an anxiety induced hallucination and still on the phone with Lenovo. The laptop seemed fixed, I cancelled the scheduled repair and thought that would be that. Until of course it happened again, two months later. Similar to the above the device would not turn back on after having been put into sleep mode. Unfortunately I did not have the same luck this time round, and the device was indeed sent into the technicians for repair. I was "lucky" this happened on a Friday evening as I could arrange to use an alternative device in time for the following work week, however it is of a much lower standard - yet has been already more reliable than my Lenovo. The c740 arrived at my front door this morning, the 30th of November. This came as a surprise, because I had received no communication as to the status of my device from Lenovo whatsoever. Nothing with regards to as if they had actually received the device from UPS, its status or even if the device was actually able to be repaired. I lifted the device out of the box and immeditaely I could see a large dent to the body of the laptop. The air vent on the rear of the device was heavily caved in and the bottom of the device was out of place. There was no damage to the packaging the device arrived in, in fact they even returned the box I sent my laptop in. There was two boxes, the external padded with bubble wrap concealing the smaller box which again was padded with foam around the device. No tears to the box, nothing. It was clear that the device was actually dropped, bang smack onto a table during the repair process. The documents inside hinted at my suspicion, the person listed as the repair technician only put their first name - likely in a pathetic attempt to cover up the fact they dropped it. Yet what annoys me most is that the laptop was tested, likely went through some screening or second approval and nothing was flagged to me. Likely to cover up this complacency. From this point, I rang Lenovo Cusotmer Support to explain the siutation. My call was disconnected twice, not randomly but rather conveniently after the service rep had heard my circumstance and bluntly chose not to respond. Twice. It was only after asking for the name of the final servcie rep and giving them my number to call me back should we disconnect was I met with any reasonable response. Even then, I could hear a certain annoyance in their tone, and hushed whispers while I spoke. Another repair ticket was created to pick up my damaged device. No alternative was presented to me, with little attempts made at apology. I can only assume the device will be collected and out of my possession for a further two weeks, only adding to my frustartions regarding accessing my work as Ireland has been in a strict lockdown for the better part of six weeks as of writing. Despite the fact this circumstance was out of my control and that it was acknolwedged to have solely been Lenovo's negligence, I alone must deal with the consequences of this and will not have my laptop for a further period of time. I chose to buy the laptop directly from Lenovo for added protection, for the peace of mind that the manufacturer could handle any issues I may incur when using the device. Had I known what I have since experienced I would have avoided Lenovo at all costs. I'm writing this post, which in essence is a blog/diary entry now, not even in the hopes of getting a refund or replacement or even an apology, but just in the hope I could direct one person away from this shitshow of a service, a former-self who when researching laptops as extensively as I did would know this pain, this desolation in feeling so powerless and despondent in dealing with Lenovo. To anyone actually reading this far, and particularly to any unfortunate person working for this company. Lenovo, fuck you. [link] [comments]
Posted: 30 Nov 2020 03:49 PM PST Was playing a F1 2020 and I wanted to record a little clip so I opened up geforce experience and started recording. When I went to close it used alt+z because I forgot the shortcut to stop recording. When I went to do this the menu started flickering opened than closed. I then decided to alt-tab out to see if there was any quick fix but then that became stuck open. I am using shadow (streaming service) on a mac if that influences anything. [link] [comments]

Record a headless system? (Remote desktop) Bonus if it can be automated. W10 Pro Posted: 30 Nov 2020 01:42 PM PST I have to watch some long recordings - to search for motion. I'd rather record it and throw it at ffmpeg. Is there anyway to setup one of my remote systems (in house) to do this? [link] [comments]
Posted: 30 Nov 2020 01:06 PM PST I will keep it short. I have 2 monitors, and I don't want my taskbar to be mirrored on both monitors. In other words, I want the taskbar to be one long taskbar so it has more space. [link] [comments]
