A 2080 SHOULD NOT BE CONSIDERED A MID RANGE LAPTOP CARD

    Posted: 30 Sep 2020 05:27 AM PDT

Always the same shit. People ask for a mid ranger and get spammed with "Oh get the laptop with a 2080 32gb of ram and a i9" its so fucking stupid to say a high end laptop graphics card is a mid ranger. Most games run perfectly on a gtx 1650 bruh

    Backlight on LCD not working...

    Posted: 30 Sep 2020 03:10 PM PDT

I was trying to upgrade my screen on my laptop and I forgot to disconnect the battery while removing the EDP cable. Also by accident I put an LVDS cable into a 40-pin EDP connection, and soon after my screen stop showing the backlight and it almost pitch black.

I might have blown a fuse on the motherboard, I read that if you get a multimeter you can determine which fuse is burnt and use a blob of solder on it to fix it. Does anyone have experience doing this.. visually inspecting the mobo the fuses near the EDP connection look fine(accept one is a darker color, it might have been like that before but dont know for sure_...

    >>Any insight into my laptop audio problem?<<

    Posted: 30 Sep 2020 02:36 PM PDT

My laptop (Hp Envy x360 15') is quite new, about one or two months old, and this problem has happened about two to three times so far.

The audio problem is best described as whatever sound is playing gets stopped or drastically lowered, and is replaced by a loud stuttering sound coming out from the speakers (similar to clearing your throat repeatedly super quickly).

I've tried disabling and enabling audio drivers but the stuttering sound continues. The mute button and increase or decrease bar has no effect on the stuttering sound.

Only way I know to fix it is by shutting down/restarting the laptop which takes longer than usual when the audio problem happens.

I've noticed it has happened when I was in a zoom call and don't know if it can happen outside zoom.

I was wondering if this could be a hardware or software problem, and if there is a fix.

    Laptop - $1K Budget

    Posted: 30 Sep 2020 01:18 PM PDT

    Hi everyone!

I have a friend looking for a laptop and doesn't know where to start. She and her husband typically use it for web browsing and online poker. Doesn't sound like they need to use it for anything extensive, but they also want to keep it for at least a few years.

I've been out of touch with the computer world for quite some time, so can you guys suggest some 15" laptops? They're really looking for reliable, trouble-free computing.

Best laptops with a numpad on the market right now?

    Posted: 30 Sep 2020 12:59 PM PDT

Hi all. I'm looking to replace my trusty ancient Toshiba machine with something less hefty with a numpad. Hope you guys can give me some pointers.

Preferences (in that order): numpad, battery, processing power (heavy excel user), silence, weight

    Little importance: graphics (no gaming)

    Thanks all in advance! :)

External battery to always keep plugged in?

    Posted: 30 Sep 2020 11:46 AM PDT

    Hi all, I'm a massive noob so please don't kill me if this question is dumb;

My laptop (ASUS) doesn't work unless the Charger is connected, the battery is fixed at 53% and doesn't go up or down, I've already tried every possible solution and I'm pretty sure it's hardware related.

So, since the Pc now only works when plugged in, I was wondering if there was a external battery I could keep plugged in too, to prevent the Pc from shutting down whenever there is a power shortage or someone touches some cables or the plug disconnecting it?

What is the best external SSD option to pair with my laptop that only has USB 3.0?

    Posted: 30 Sep 2020 11:13 AM PDT

I have an Acer Spin 1 (SP111-32N) that only has a single USB 2.0 and a single USB 3.0 port and no internal expandability aside from the micro SD card slot. My 128gb Samsung Evo SD card has done well for most things, but it struggles to load large games. Games under 10gb load just fine, but anything above that loads slower than an HDD would load it. So I want to get an external SSD to load all of my games onto. I have a $90 budget, so I was looking at the Samsung T7 500gb, Sandisk 500gb Extreme, PNY Elite 480gb, and Netac 500gb. I tried looking for the Samsung T5, thinking that the older version would likely be cheaper, only to find it marked up like crazy, being at least $30 more expensive everywhere.

I know that the USB 3.2 interface of the drives is faster than my USB 3.0 port could access, but to me that just means that I would be future proofing it for when I eventually buy a laptop with faster USB ports. I'm really leaning towards getting the T7 because it's a brand I know and trust, but the price of the Netac and PNY SSD's at the tradeoff of being half the speed of the T7 as well, are drawing me towards them too. Would it be worth it to just get the T7 even though my laptop can't currently utilize the full bandwidth the SSD could push, or should I just get one of the cheaper options?

Should I be hyped for Thunderbolt 4?

    Posted: 30 Sep 2020 07:12 AM PDT

I've been saving up for over a year and am willing to wait for more to get a more premium laptop. I've been thinking if it's better to invest in a Thunderbolt 4 laptop and save up for an egpu or to just buy a laptop with a discrete gpu. Just wanted to know more about it.

    Looking at Tiger Lake Ultraportables

    Posted: 30 Sep 2020 10:43 AM PDT

So I'm looking at the new range of Tiger Lake ultraportables that are coming out in the next month or two. I'm 98% of the way to ordering the new XPS 13 when it comes out tomorrow, but am holding back because the screen might be a bit too small for me. Should I wait and look at some of the other options coming out, like the new ZenBook S or the Lenovo Slim 7i Pro?

Hello all, my laptop is actually really old (Hp 2760p i7 2620m)and i was trying from a long time to get expgdc work with it as there was only a single post regarding to external gpu with these/this laptops in PCMR which is archived now, i cant find the drivers, or the application called setup 1.x,2.x, the links they posted are dead, and googling didnt helped ,i cant afford another laptop and my gpu is extremely weak, but cpu is actually still good, i did bought expgdc but it wasnt the expresscard version, and now i m regretting it, so does anyone have any info regarding these old HP laptops, and expgdc beast V8, if i can find some software/bios/drivers for these laptops only then will i buy expgdc beast, as it took me a lot time to save up this much money

    LG Gram Motherboard Transplant

    Posted: 30 Sep 2020 09:56 AM PDT

Hey y'all, I had a weird idea of transplanting a Z990 board into a Z980 Chassis and was wondering if there's any differences in the board sizes, and also would there be an issue if I were to buy a 17 Inch model board and transplanted into a 14 inch model? Any knowledge on this topic is helpful thank you! Just need some background information on if anyone has done this to another laptop before.
