Is $600 CAD a good price for a month old rtx 2070 super?

    Posted: 30 Aug 2020 11:46 AM PDT

Hello I found a used evga black rtx 2070 super for $600 CAD. The guy has a receipt saying it's a month old. I'm wondering, with the new cards coming out and potential price drops and sales, is this a good price? I've been looking for a while for a 1080ti or 2070 super for a while and this seems to be the best deal I've found so far but I'm starting to think I may be making a mistake ? Any feedback would be appreciated thanks.

    H510 or Meshify C?

    Posted: 30 Aug 2020 08:11 AM PDT

    Hey guys,

im about to build a new pc in the next months.

My thoughts are something along the lines of a Ryzen 7 3700x and a RTX 2080 Super (totally depends on the pricing of ampere tho).

I'm not sure about the case tho. I like the looks of the H510 better and it's on sale at the moment for 60€ but I heard that the Meshify C has one of the best airflow designs.

Is it that significant or should I run the setup in the better looking H510?

Edit: Thanks for all the opinions. You guys atleast prevented the impulse buying.

    3200Mhz or 3600Mhz for Ryzen 5 3600 / MSI B450 Tomahawk MAX ?

    Posted: 30 Aug 2020 07:22 AM PDT

    Hi,

    I have a Ryzen 5 3600 & MSI B450 Tomahawk MAX.

I want to get 16GB RAM, one of these two because I like the looks :

    - G.SKILL Trident Z Neo 3600Mhz / Timing 16-16-16-36

    - G.SKILL Trident Z Neo 3200Mhz / Timing 14-14-14-34

Neither of these are listed in QVL of the MSI B450 Tomahawk MAX.. so I have 3 questions please:

1- Are they guaranteed to work at least, even not at their max speed? because I won't be able to return them once purchased (long story..)

2- If they aren't fully compatible, will the PC boot to the bios at least to let me adjust the timings or frequency etc..? or it will just not boot at all and I'm left with useless RAM sticks?

3- Will the 3200Mhz perform better because it has better timing in this case?

TLDR: I need the best "G.Skill Trident Z Neo 16GB" sticks for my system from the ones I listed or even other "G.Skill Trident Z Neo" variants with different timings and stuff. I need your advice please.

    Thank you!!

    AMD GPU Driver Concerns

    Posted: 30 Aug 2020 09:54 AM PDT

Hi, I will be building my first pc soon, for school and gaming, and I was wondering if there are still any current gpu driver problems. I've been thinking about what gpu I should get all week and I've leaned towards the 5600xt, but I've read about crashes, windows not working, stuttering, etc. Because of those, I'm thinking of just getting a 2060. I just want a 2nd opinion from people who actually owns or owned a 5000 series card.

When to plan the RGB configuration in my computer.

    Posted: 30 Aug 2020 01:33 PM PDT

Should I be planning my RGB before selecting my parts or is that something I can do after I finish planning my build?

Upgrade to play Flight Simulator 2020

    Posted: 30 Aug 2020 12:10 PM PDT

I have a build that is five years old now and want to play Flight Simulator 2020. My current build has the following.

    • i7-4790K
    • 16G RAM
    • 500G SSD
    • Acer CB280HK monitor.

I have no GPU other than what's on the i7.

I would like a good solid gaming experience, but I'm not interesting in paying top money for bleeding edge just-released stuff. Having said that, budget isn't a huge concern; I just don't want to be burning money because I can.

I think I'll need the following, although I don't know; I'm open to all suggestions.

    • GPU of some sort
    • A joystick (HOTAS?)
    • Maybe a monitor??

My assumption is the CPU, RAM and SSD will be fine, but again I'm open to all opinions.

    Thanks for any help.

    edit: Fix monitor model number

Said Goodbye To My Mac - First PC Build

    Posted: 30 Aug 2020 12:38 AM PDT

Thank you very much to this community, and the folks on discord, for helping me make sense of this whole crazy world of PC building. I would not have been able to do it without you all, so cheers.

    https://i.imgur.com/UCgFkxg.jpg

Edit: Per the advice in thread, moved things around: https://i.imgur.com/jc7sYsY.jpg

Had a great time putting this all together, got a new desk and chair for a whole new setup. Pleasantly surprised when I turned everything on for the first time that there were no problems, everything has been extremely easy. My only complaint is now that I have so many more options for games, I've been extremely unproductive...

    Side note...

A friend of mine wants to build a PC as well, he's not tech savvy at all so I'm going to attempt to help him since I did mine relatively well for a first timer. It's going to be primarily for his art (drawing, animation, 3D misc.), and he'll probably want to try getting into gaming. It also needs to be small because he's on the go a lot.

Here's what I've got put together so far:

    PCPartPicker Part List

    Type Item Price
    CPU AMD Ryzen 7 3700X 3.6 GHz 8-Core Processor $289.99 @ Amazon
CPU Cooler Cooler Master MasterLiquid ML120L RGB 66.7 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler $64.99 @ B&H
Motherboard Asus ROG Strix X570-I Gaming Mini ITX AM4 Motherboard $275.99 @ Amazon
    Memory G.Skill Ripjaws V 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3600 CL19 Memory $59.99 @ Newegg
Storage Crucial P1 1 TB M.2-2280 NVME Solid State Drive $104.99 @ Adorama
Video Card PowerColor Radeon RX 5600 XT 6 GB Red Dragon Video Card $299.99 @ Amazon
Case Cougar QBX Mini ITX Tower Case $54.99 @ Newegg
Power Supply EVGA BR 600 W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply $64.99 @ Walmart
    Case Fan Rosewill RFA-120-RL 74.48 CFM 120 mm Fan $9.76 @ Amazon
    Case Fan Rosewill RFA-120-RL 74.48 CFM 120 mm Fan $9.76 @ Amazon
    Case Fan Rosewill RFA-120-RL 74.48 CFM 120 mm Fan $9.76 @ Amazon
    Case Fan Rosewill RFA-120-RL 74.48 CFM 120 mm Fan $9.76 @ Amazon
Prices include shipping, taxes, rebates, and discounts
    Total $1254.96

Definitely needs work, I need to bring the price point down a little too so he can afford to get a tablet/stylus for drawing. Any advice you can give me would be extremely appreciated!

Don't do that, just FYI. It removes all 70 of your games and you have to download them all again.

    1660 vs 1660 super

    Posted: 30 Aug 2020 12:26 PM PDT

Looking for a graphics card for some moderate gaming and to power my video editing + some 3d modeling eventually. I want it to last. Is the 1660 super a more future proofed option? On Newegg the msi 1660 OC 6gb can be had for 190 while the msi 1660 super OC 6gb can be had for 225. Should I spend the extra 35 dollars for the better gddr6?

Edit: I just bought the super. Thanks for all your help

New PC doesn't boot first time

    Posted: 30 Aug 2020 09:00 AM PDT

    Hello everyone,

I posted yesterday with my issue, i I did few steps, but still can't make it work.

My system is: Ryzen 5 3600, Gigabyte Aorus Pro Ac B550, Crucial Ballistix Ddr4-3200. everything is new.

The problem is the CPU led on the mobo is on. I moved the ram around, disassemble everything and put together again, replaced the mobo, left the system running for 30 minutes after clearing the cmos multiple times. Am I having a dead cpu? I filed a warrenty claim with Amd to get a boot kit and see what happens.

I just found out about "Qualified Vender list". My mobo doesn't have the ram model in its list, but crucial website says that the ram is compatible with the mobo. Is this maybe a ram issue?

Is there anything else i I should check for?

    Thank you.

Update: I passed that CPU issue, now I have the GPU indicator. No picture. Update 2: I got the GPU to work, and got a picture. It was a missing power cable Thanks fo all your advices

No POST, must be missing something?

    Posted: 30 Aug 2020 01:37 PM PDT

As the title says, no POST. I'm helping a friend build a pc and I can't tell what the issue is. None of the EZ-debug lights are on and I feel like I've tried everything. I have some known working parts from my build that I've tried (memory, gpu).

    - I've tried booting it and updating the bios using the 2600 and 1070/rx580 but it didn't work.

    - Tried paperclip test with psu (worked)

    - Tried clearing CMOS

    - Tried reseating everything

    - Tried known good ram

Parts of the no POST pc:

    Ryzen 3 3100

MSI B450 gaming plus ac itx

    2x8gb 3200 t-force delta rgb

    Crucial P2 500gb

Gigabyte RX 580 - posted on known working pc

    EVGA 600B

    Phanteks Evolv Itx

    Known working parts:

    2x8gb 3000mhz Corsair rgb

    ryzen 5 2600

    evga gtx 1070

Sorry if the format is wonky. Please let me know if anything else needs to be known/fixed

Edit: Thanks for the responses and suggestions of DOA mobos...hope it isn't the case but we'll find out when I test the 3100...

Which UPS PSU should I get?

    Posted: 30 Aug 2020 02:30 PM PDT

Where I live my power usually goes out almost once a week during the summer and my pc always shuts down. I want to protect it and get a UPS power supply but not sure which one to get. I've been reading some reviews and keep seeing the word sine wave and how some ups psu aren't compatible with some pcs so I'm confused about which one to get. I have a EVGA 650 B3, 80+ Bronze 650W power supply right now. Please help.

Spotted on Ebay. Is this card ruined?

    Posted: 30 Aug 2020 03:39 PM PDT

I don't know the rules about posting links so hopefully that isn't an issue. I was doing my daily round of looking up random computer components to check on prices and I came across this 2080 (TI I think) Hydro Copper. I was looking through the pictures and quickly realized this build had no water cooling. Then I slowly realized that this man has this gpu running with zero cooling. The listing just says "I bought it and didn't know I needed water". How long could that card have ran like that without damage? I am not looking to buy this, I am just curious.

    Seems kinda sketch

Anyone out there know how I can get more from this old build?

    Posted: 30 Aug 2020 02:39 PM PDT

My main rig, for one is trash and I just cant afford to upgrade rn, but Id like to OC but I have little knowledge of OC Is there any way I can get more from this? Mainly just play CSGO and Destiny 2.

FX8350 99X mobo 8gb 2x4gb Corsair Vengeance DDR3 GTX980 Windforce 650w bronze Corsair PSU Great airflow in a CoolerMaster HAF case

I get like 200fps+- on Dust2 and Mirage, less on pretty much every other map. Anything would be great, anything at all.

    Thanks in advance.

Can't build cheaper than this Best Buy build?

    Posted: 30 Aug 2020 12:58 PM PDT

Was going to build my mom a PC until I found this..

    https://www.bestbuy.com/site/lenovo-a540-24api-23-8-touch-screen-all-in-one-amd-ryzen-3-series-8gb-memory-256gb-solid-state-drive-black/6365785.p?skuId=6365785

She ONLY uses the computer for watching youtube videos and checking E-mail. She also uses it for online private tutoring through ZOOM so the webcam and touchscreen is extremely useful (extra emphasis on touchscreen since I can't find any touchscreen monitors for cheap!).

    $650

    Ryzen 3200GE

    8GB - 2666mhz

256gig SSD (it doesn't specify exactly what kind but it does state PCIe)

    -------------

Wifi, Webcam, Wireless Keyboard and Mouse

TOUCH SCREEN monitor (where can you even buy these for cheap?!)

I feel like there's no way I could build a cheaper set-up for her as good as this... Am I wrong?

Take a deep breath: your PC is going to be fine, even if you think you broke it!

    Posted: 30 Aug 2020 04:32 PM PDT

About 3 weeks ago I built my first PC, here's my original part list if anyone's interested: https://au.pcpartpicker.com/list/hRJbBZ . It ran slightly hot, both the cpu and gpu. No matter I thought, I'll buy an extra fan as exhaust, plus an aftermarket cpu cooler.

Exhaust fan came in the mail, easy install, looks great, temps go down a lot. But it's still a little hot for my liking...

Then the cpu cooler arrives. Awesome. I take the stock cooler off after using floss to try cut through the paste, floss didn't work, so I wiggle a bit to pull it out... and the cpu comes with it... while the cpu lever is still in locked position. It's completely stuck to the cooler. Panic sets in. I manage to get the cpu off the heat sink and assess the damage - 4 or 5 bent pins and thermal paste in the socket - shit.

At this stage I'm ready to cry, call my mum and tell her not to miss me when I'm gone. My pc was working before I tried to put this cooler in, why the f%&k did I try and mess with it?

One reddit post, a few YouTube videos and a whole lot of shakiness later - my cpu pins are back to normal - straightened using tweezers. My socket is (somewhat) cleaned using isopropyl alcohol, a toothpick, and q tips. I put the cpu in, cooler on (hyper 212 evo if anyone's wondering) and plug everything back in.

Now for the moment of truth... I'd spent hours stressing and shaking, wondering if what is about to happen will make me fork out ~$400 for new cpu and mobo, which I don't have. And... it's fine. Works even better than before, obviously due to the cooler. Temps are amazing. Stress test goes well. I've been monitoring for a bit over a week and all seems fine so far.

Photos (very high quality /s) for anyone interested: https://imgur.com/gallery/GOxOBW5 https://imgur.com/gallery/ETL0jiH You should probably note I don't care a lot for aesthetics with this build, it sits under my desk since my desk is pretty small.

TLDR: bent cpu pins and thermal paste in your socket won't stop you. Even if you think you screwed up big time, even if you did break something... there's a good chance you can fix it. You're gonna be alright. Stop stressing, take a breather, build your rig and enjoy it!

    First Build

    Posted: 30 Aug 2020 04:30 PM PDT

I am looking to build a desktop PC who's main goal will be streaming my church's service to Facebook Live using OBS and 2 (possibly 3) monitors. The stream is currently 720p but we are looking to get a HD (1080p) camera. I highly doubt we will ever go to 4k. If it is used for anything else it would be internet or Microsoft Office. I am not a complete noob when it comes to PCs but I am when it comes to what parts work well together, what I should future proof and what I should not worry about. Also, what can I afford to buy as a "bridge" component and look to upgrade in the future when more money becomes available?

While a fully laid out list of your suggested build (along with some explanation as to why) would be amazing, I obviously don't expect it. But suggestions for at least the motherboard and CPU would be great.

Lastly, please let me know your opinion on if I can actually save money by just buying it from a manufacturer or if building it, for even my limited needs, would be the way to go?

Budget: No more than $1000. Would love to stay around $500-$700 but I don't know if that's even possible.

Tower form factor: doesn't really matter cause there's enough space

Optical Drive: Blu-Ray drive would be great but only if it fits in budget, otherwise no Optical Drive is needed

    Ports:

3 USB (one USB-C in addition would be great)

    2 or 3 HDMI out

    1 Ethernet

1 HDMI in and 1 Audio in would be amazing to make streaming easier but it is really not necessary

Thank you in advance for any and all suggestions and please let me know if more information is needed.

What's the best consumer-grade CPU currently available for Microsoft Flight Simulator?

    Posted: 30 Aug 2020 02:16 PM PDT

Since my current rig is 7 years old and showing its age a bit in the new Flight Simulator, I've decided to go all out and buy a new system with FS2020 in mind.

This is what I have so far:

    PCPartPicker Part List

    Type Item Price
    CPU Intel Core i7-10700K 3.8 GHz 8-Core Processor $394.99 @ Newegg
CPU Cooler Noctua NH-D15 82.5 CFM CPU Cooler $89.95 @ Amazon
Motherboard MSI MPG Z490 GAMING PLUS ATX LGA1200 Motherboard $169.99 @ Best Buy
    Memory G.Skill Ripjaws V 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR4-3600 CL16 Memory $138.99 @ Newegg
    GPU 3xxx card (likely a 3080) ~$1000.00?
Storage Samsung 970 Evo 1 TB M.2-2280 NVME Solid State Drive $169.99 @ Amazon
Case Corsair 275R ATX Mid Tower Case $110.44 @ Amazon
Power Supply EVGA B5 750 W 80+ Bronze Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply $109.99 @ Newegg
Prices include shipping, taxes, rebates, and discounts
    Total $2184.34
    Generated by PCPartPicker 2020-08-30 17:11 EDT-0400

But I'm questioning whether the 10700k is the right choice of CPU. A Ryzen has more cores and offers better multithreaded performance, but reports seem to show the first four cores are the most heavily used for FS2020. Intel still has an edge over AMD in single core performance. But there's potential for FS2020 to be better optimized for better multicore usage in the future... does this mean a Ryzen 9 3900x might be a better buy?

Sapphire Pulse 5700XT Not Being Identified

    Posted: 30 Aug 2020 04:24 PM PDT

Just last week I posted about a computer build and wanted to thank all of you for the help.

Everything has arrived and I set it all up, but my GPU ( Sapphire Pulse 5700XT ) isn't being detected. I go into DirectX Diagnostic tool to see what's happening and the card isn't even being displayed.

The card seems to have sufficient power (RGB turns on) and all of the corresponding power ports are full. The Radeon desktop app knows what card I'm using, but when I go to play a game, i.e. COD MW, it tells me I don't have enough VRAM. Using the Asus TUF Gaming Z490 Plus motherboard and I don't see any compatibility issues.

PCpartpicker doesn't call out any compatibility issues (full build here). Wondering if anyone has experience with this card like this? Or any tips on what might be happening.

    So far my troubleshooting:

    1. check drivers are up to date and installed
    2. removed the GPU and put into PCIe slot (same one but using the port named _1)
    3. updated windows drivers again
    4. googling until i lose track of time

REALLY frustrated that everything went well and just the GPU isn't working which was obviously a large chunk of the investment.
