TORRENT, of course. Here's what happened within the next 18 hours:1: all of the drives now had a smiley face next to all of the drives [Local Drive (C:\smiley face, Local Drive (D:\smiley face, UBUNTU (U:\smiley face] 2: Windows was constantly crashing, mainly just coming to a halt. 3: No Internet access (I think it's just my router being fussy) 4: My PC wouldn't turn on. If I try to boot it, it just beeps 4 times. any clues? EDIT: I had a similar situation last year: An external drive has gotten breached, thus making the motherboard of that drive read-only. Edit 2: the computer actually beeps 4 times. Edit 3: A tad more info: Motherboard manufacturer: Phoenix BIOS manufacturer: American Megatends (AMI) Edit 4: Mystery Solved! The culprit? | Posted: 30 Aug 2020 07:25 PM PDT So whenever I turn off my pc, it would automatically restart for some reason, so I begun to switch it off using the switch at the back of the desktop. Now, when I start it up, it shows me the windows logo, then transitions into a black screen where it is stuck. Could this be a cause of messing up the windows OS software, or is it more of a problem with hardware (say the harddrive or something)? I fully appreciate that there is no way to KNOW, but what would be the likely problems of switching off the PC at the back when it's trying to boot? Currently, it runs on safe mode, and I am running a chkdsk (although Ive been running it for 4hrs and Im only on 26%). Thanks in advance. [link] [comments]  | ||

I had to reinstall, and now I can't edit DPI settings as it goes black. I'm wondering if there's a 3rd party software that'll let me change Mouse button settings, and preferably one that'll auto change based off the game I've launched/clicked on like the logitech one. | IRulu Walknbook W1005 Audio Drivers Posted: 30 Aug 2020 04:52 PM PDT I need the audio drivers for this unit IRulu WalknBook Model: w1005. I had to reinstall windows using the official windows usb recovery tool since the RESET windows option from the recovery drive did not work. I lost all drivers for touch, audio, and etc.. I dont care about touch but the audio device is not detected at all. It's not even listed in device manager. The company which ran the site Irulu.com has vanished so I have no where else to go but hoping someone on here might have the drivers saved. [link] [comments]  | ||
| problem with windows 8.1 and hp laptop Posted: 30 Aug 2020 04:23 PM PDT when i buyed this laptop, win 8.1 was installed but i had certain compatibily problems, like the speakers dosen't stop producing sound when something is plugged to the headphone jack, plgged headphones sound quality is medium quality no stereo no bass, the mute button's light dosen't do anything if i switched on or off. i also noticed ceveral differences like: hp oem key combinations dosen't do anything, hp bloatware isn't installed by default, the hp uefi logo displays on live cd/usb stick installation boot but not on the installed version even after reinstall instead it's the blue windows logo, there are no hp themes... i tried reinstalling the sound drivers , installing hp support assistant which did nothing. the pc is hp 15-bs0xx as recognized by both windows and hp website(i think it's 15-bs012) btw this is not a manufacturer problem because i tried a live ubuntu stick and everything works fine and the headphone sound quality is amaizing... please help me solve the problem and sorry for bad english [link] [comments]  | ||

I have been searching tirelessly for ways to prevent that account from changing the personalization settings (the user gets easily distracted and so I want to remove the temptation up front). I have installed the Group Policy Editor only find that the settings don't do anything on Windows 10 Home. Even the registry settings I've found don't do anything. Posted: 30 Aug 2020 03:43 PM PDT edit: figured out how to enable cpu throttling: change DWORD registry setting (also shame on Asus for apparently explicitly hiding cpu throttling..) ------------- original post: i need a laptop to run completely quietly, no cpu fan; on windows 7 i can do it by going to "advanced power settings" and cap the cpu speed to ~10% (something like so.. how can i cap the cpu speed on windows 10? (or somehow make sure the fans doesn't get triggered, that's my final goal) edit: according to people on irc://irc.freenode.net/##Windows , the processor category is not removed on windows 10, but there are registry settings to decide which options to show and which to hide, it's likely that the laptop manufacturers modified windows to hide the processors option.. it's an Asus ZenBook 14, for what that's worth; guess it means i have to mess with something in the registry to enable those settings again, anyone know more? My question is that if I did a fresh install instead of transferring the hard drive data to the SSD, could I still use the Windows Key that I used with the old hard drive?
