OnePlus Successfully replaced my screen, battery, frame, and battery cover on my OP 7 Pro

Successfully replaced my screen, battery, frame, and battery cover on my OP 7 Pro

    Posted: 30 Jul 2020 11:17 AM PDT

This repair required me to basically remove every component and transplant it into a new frame and body. I'd estimate it cost me $280 in materials and I probably spent 90 minutes. I would highly recommend where I got my parts from, DM me and I'll share a link.

I've had my OP 7 Pro for probably 10 months and my estimated battery health was at 90%, screen was cracked pretty badly(no case syndrome), and my battery cover was cracked. I replaced them all and everything works just fine.

Overall while it WAS intimidating, it was actually fairly simple. I would highly recommend taking your time on the fingerprint reader, as that seemed to be fairly fragile.

10/10 much better than sending my phone to Texas for 2 weeks.

Service centre hacked my gmail account and changed the recovery phone number

    Posted: 30 Jul 2020 07:32 PM PDT

Few months back, I gave my OnePlus 6 to ESC to repair my camera, told me they would take like 6,7 hours to get it fixed. I collected it back later and everything was fine, until yesterday I checked my email and unknown number was added and verified as a recovery number. I checked all four of my email account link with the phone and supringingly the unknown number was all added as the recovery phone number. I did a quick online search and the number belong to one guy working in that same service centre where I got my phone fixed few months back. I didn't have any emails/notification telling me I've added/changed my recovery number, which means the guy from the service centre deliberately changed it and deleted the email notifying me about the changes. I've complaint it to OnePlus through email, if I didn't hear anything from, I am thinking of getting a lawyer involved.

Is a plastic frame really that big of an issue ?

    Posted: 30 Jul 2020 02:16 PM PDT

Considering buy the Oneplus Nord. Is a plastic frame really that big of an issue?

I am currently using the moto g5+ and it also has a plastic frame and has held fine over the past 3 years , especially for the past 8ish months, where i have dropped the phone more times than i want to admit.

But still the g5+ apart from a small crack (it was a big drop) on the corner shows no signs of damage the battery is good, the screen has no scratches or cracks (though i have changed the screen guard a couple of times)

But from what i read on r/android and here, ever since the JerryRigEverything people have been saying how the phone is weak and how it is a dealbreaker for some of them.

Aren't all plastic frames the same? if i use a good back cover can i expect more or less the same toughness from the Nord ?

Bonus question: saw about the tint issue on the nord, can/will it be fixed with an update?

    • 1+3: Wife's replacement for her 'work' phone (crummy S5)
    • 1+5T: my daily driver (still shockingly awesome)

OnePlus 8 5G UW (Verizon Variant) connection issues.

    Posted: 30 Jul 2020 10:59 AM PDT

So I've owned the Verizon OnePlus 8 5G UW for a couple of months now and since the beginning, I've had issues where the Wifi (over a few different networks) just randomly disconnects and then reconnects. I've actually seen it happen more frequently when I'm holding the top of the phone, strangely enough. Recently I've actually had issues where MMS messages aren't being downloaded either. I'm open to suggestions for a fix from anyone who's experienced this, but I'm mostly just wondering if this is common with this phone or I may have a lemon. I've recently tried toggling with the feature that switches from wifi to data when there is a weak signal but the issues remain. I love the phone but obviously this is kind of a deal breaker if the connection doesn't work.

    OnePlus Promotion Problems

    Posted: 30 Jul 2020 03:23 PM PDT

    Hi all:

I went to purchase the OnePlus 8 Pro and there is a promotion for a $200 accessory voucher, and free OnePlus Bullets Wireless Z Black headphones.

Except, all the cases and most of the accessories aren't selectable and say "out of stock" and, while the headphones can be purchased, it says out of stock when you try to select the as part of the free promotion? So essentially the "promotion" is worthless.

The call centre wasn't any help. Is there anything I can do to take advantage of this offer? I was really excited to buy this phone and this has totally given me bad feelings about this purchase.

My WhatsApp seems to be closed in the background when I don't use it for a few minutes.

    Posted: 30 Jul 2020 05:51 PM PDT

    Hello everyone!

I am using a OnePlus 6. I have been facing issues with WhatsApp since quite some time. One instance I'm using WhatsApp and it's all good and all. Then I switch off the screen and some time passes and I see that I'm not receiving WhatsApp messages or calls only to switch my screen on again and get bombarded with messages and calls.

I'm hope I'm making sense. English isn't my first language. If anybody can help, please do so! I have to keep switching on my phone as to not miss any important call or message.

Least Battery-Draining Smartwatch for Oneplus Phones (6T)

    Posted: 30 Jul 2020 09:00 AM PDT

HELP! Should I buy the Fossil Gen 5 or the Galaxy Active 2 - priority is lasting me through 1 day (if not two).

My skepticism lies in my history with with both WearOS and Tizen.

Can anyone testify that these watches have good battery lives when paired with a OnePlus device? Specifically OnePlus 6t? I'm leaning towards Galaxy Active 2, but am afraid that samsung push services will leave me battery draining on my oneplus and the active 2. I guess i'm just looking for a "it's all good," kind of sign.

I've owned the Fossil Gen 4, and have been borrowing a buddy's Galaxy Active (1). Gen 4 after a year of use has horrible battery life that can't get me through the day (even on power saving) and the Active is the same. I am convinced it has something to do with the software integration or some setting I must have on my phone that I just can't figure out.

    Thanks in advance.

OOS Intelligent Control needs to get more intelligent

    Posted: 30 Jul 2020 02:16 AM PDT

Right now intelligent control seems to be very random for me at least. Instagram seems to refresh randomly, same with WhatsApp. Notifications are sometimes delayed on WhatsApp. On my iPhone, when I got a notification, I could be sure that the notification just came right now. While on OnePlus, that is just not the case. I use Instagram a lot and don't see a reason as to why it still thinks that I don't want it in memory. I know that I can just set it to don't optimise but I don't want to have to micromanage every single aspect of my phone. While I enjoy the customisation OnePlus bring, sometimes, I just want my phone to, you know, work. It's a shame when my 2GB iPhone SE 2016 manages RAM better than my OnePlus 8 which has 10GB more RAM.

    Also a minor bug:

On the settings app, when I search for something, scroll through the whole search to find what I'm looking for, click on it and then go back, it redirects to the top of the search results again. This is a small thing, but it can get pretty annoying when trouble shooting for a specific thing I am trying to find. It seems kinda sad that their own settings app has this bug.

Probably going to get some downvotes as some people seem to think that OOS is the holy grail of Android Skins but it isn't. It's actually one of the few griefs I have with this phone. Pixel phones don't seem to have this problem. Even OneUI seems better in RAM management TBH.

Broken one plus 6t, repair or dump?

    Posted: 30 Jul 2020 03:44 PM PDT

I bought a one plus 6t in Jan 2019 and because I have butterfingers, despite a phone case+ screen protector I managed to crack the glass one week after I bought the phone. The glass cracked in such a way that there was a line going right through the front camera.

I adjusted with the phone till March 2020 and unfortunately, right before the lockdown I sent it in for a hasty repair. This resulted in the glue not sticking properly and over the months, lots of dust has crept into the front camera. Also, the proximity sensor doesn't work and I can't use the phone for whatsapp calls/voice recording on whatsapp since the screen goes completely black once I am on the call and the only way to revive the phone is for the other person to cut the call. I can't even switch off the phone.

Had a pretty scary experience when a pakistani number called me on my whatsapp and i made the mistake of answering it. My phone was literally held hostage for over 20 minutes since they refused to cut the call and I could not either. They were scamsters.

Basically, i need to either repair/replace the phone. The screen cracked yet again. Another repair would cost about 8k INR, so technically I will have paid over 48k for this phone. Should I just buy a newer oneplus 8( selling pretty cheap at 41k) or get this repaired for an additional 8k INR, given that I have already sunk 4k into repairs. Also, would oneplus repair a phone that has been "manhandled" by an unauthorized service center?

I have been toying with the idea for a iPhone, a XR will be about the same-ish price as the oneplus 8. Considering the fact that my priority is camera+battery, should I go with iPhone XR? The reason I am looking toward to an iPhone is that I have literally only ever used androids, never even used an iphone for 5 minutes. I want to buy something that I can maintain for a few years(3-4 years) since I am soon going for my masters program and won't be earning for a while. Also, I am sorta worried about this whole skirmish around the India-China business, I know they can't just "ban" all chinese phones in the Indian market, but I would hate for some data issues to crop up some years down the line.

I like oneplus, but I am sorta bored with android. Is it worth the change to buy a new phone? Also, if I do go for a new phone, should I get an iPhone or am I making a mistake because the grass is always greener on the other side.

Google maps searching for GPS constantly on oneplus 7 pro

    Posted: 30 Jul 2020 02:30 PM PDT

Anyone know how to fix this? I saw some people having the same problem but it ended up getting fixed in a previous patch. I have the most current patch. I'm constantly having issues with the GPS tracking on this phone especially with Google maps.

    Op buds questions

    Posted: 30 Jul 2020 01:22 PM PDT

I'm assuming they work with the same master-slave connection setup of all other buds, but how about the battery drain? Do they discarge at relatively equal rates? Also can they both be used one at a time without having to reconnect to the phone?

OnePlus 7 pro glare issue, do you have a fix?

    Posted: 30 Jul 2020 08:20 AM PDT

    Hello :)

So my dad got a OnePlus 7 pro on my advice after his Huawei P30pro was stolen last fall.

Now summer is here, and he has taken issues with the screen glare when taking pictures. I've compared his screen with my OnePlus 6's and mine is much better. I don't know if it's because of the curvature but it can be really hard to take a picture when a bright sun shines.

Do you have any fixes to propose? He's not the chill type and I'm worried the phone ends up lake-diving.

    OP contracts in the UK?

    Posted: 30 Jul 2020 07:34 AM PDT

Just wondering which UK phone retailers are still doing Oneplus contracts, I had a 6T from Vodafone, served me well but was gonna upgrade and give it to someone.

Can only seem to find Three doing contracts on Oneplus phones now, and can't see anything on mobile.co.uk, uswitch etc.
