[Dual Music Player] A music player app with a unique ergonomic UI and the ability to play two tracks in sync.

    Posted: 28 Jul 2020 10:46 PM PDT

Hello! This is my first ever app that I developed for android. It is a music player that can play two tracks together. The idea is that if you listen to soundtracks or simply have two tracks that you think would play well together you can play it through this app. It will try to do a bit of syncing for you but you can manually adjust the settings. The UX is something I am still trying to figure out but I hope you try it. It hasn't been updated in a while because I have been trying to refactor it to proper architecture as the initial coding was done entirely based on the documentation and guides.

    https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.zenithappworks.dualmusicplayer

Edit:I realized that the app has not been released yet in the US. I will update this post as soon as it happens.

Alternative app to use with the Active Watch2 now that Samsung Health cuts features.

    Posted: 29 Jul 2020 10:56 AM PDT

I've just got my Watch Active 2 today and I'm really liking the weight and calorie feature and overall planned on cancelling my online-gym membership entirely since I'm mostly subscribed to it for the tracking and progression features, rather than for the workout videos themselves anymore.

With those two aforementioned features being cut from samsung health in version 6.11 I'd like to know if there's an alternative app that I can use with the active watch 2 that features a current feature level of the samsung health app.

    Secure and Privacy-Focused QR Reader

    Posted: 29 Jul 2020 12:18 AM PDT

Last week I started to search for a simple and secure QR Reader for my parents' phone but it looks like that every QR reader app requires strange and sneaky permissions (for example, contacts or location 🤬) and has very intrusive ads.

So during the weekend, I developed a new secure and privacy-focused QR Reader without ads, trackers, and strange permissions (it only requires the camera permission).

The app is open source and you can download it from the Play Store!

Gentle Alarm - Fixed for Android 10

    Posted: 29 Jul 2020 07:46 AM PDT

TL:DR - Gentle Alarm now works again on A10 - link at bottom

First off, I am not the dev of this app, but an almost decade long user. I finally took the plunge to Android 10 and found out my alarm app no longer works (after ending up late for work).

I was a little shocked to see that the app is no longer on the store, the website doesn't seem to work and it seems the dev doesn't respond to emails. I then started on the search for new alarm apps.

Here is the problem though - you use an app this long and you develop a bit of muscle memory for it. Even if some other suggested replacement apps look and function somewhat the same, I wasn't ready to give up on Gentle Alarm yet.

A few hours of digging and experimenting and I was able to get the app modified and working on A10. I haven't tested all functions, so I can't say it is 100% working, but the screen does turn on when alarms trigger.

You will need to enable the feature to "Display over other apps" for the alarm to function correctly.

I only edited the AndroidManifext.xml file and recompiled the app, but am still just a random person on the internet with an APK to download.

Since most people have long since upgraded to 10 and most on to another app, I hope at least one person may be helped in the future when searching for this same issue or someone who left the app might want to come back home.

If the dev ever sees this and wants it removed, just let me know and it will disappear. I'm just trying to help get an app I love working again.

Run the link through Virustotal if you are concerned.

I'd also be interested if the app will work for others, as I only tested it on my phone. Thanks!

I'm looking for the very best wallpaper app.

    Posted: 29 Jul 2020 02:46 AM PDT

-please without subscription model (one time purchase to get rid of ads is ok) -attractive design (material design?) -huge selection of pictures and categories (handpicked, well-curated images) -good sorting and filtering options -saveable favorites

    •••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••

    a positive example:

Backdrop - Wallpapers: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.backdrops.wallpapers (but it is also not perfect)

    a negative example:

Zedge: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.zedge.android (overloaded, ads, subscription model, other content like ringtones)

    ••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••

I would like to hear various suggestions.

A good IR Remote Control app?

    Posted: 29 Jul 2020 08:39 AM PDT

So basically most of the Mi Remote works for me but sometimes it just doesn't have the options or settings available for various electronics. (I work at a electronic store so i'm constantly using different sorts of electronics), also tried Peel remote but it's the same with ads. Is there a better app which might also happen to have cloud functionality so that i can save my config?

We developed Cipher - Send Secret Messages (Beta Testers Needed)

    Posted: 29 Jul 2020 06:57 AM PDT

    Hi redditors.

Me and my friends are currently beta testing our new app Cipher - Send Secret Messages. We're finishing high school, and this is the first Android app we have launched to together as a team.

Cipher is a fun keyboard application that allows the user to easily encode messages with several ciphers. You and your friends now can easily send secret/hidden messages to your friends like a spy🕵. It works in all the popular apps including Snapchat, Facebook, Messages, and Instagram. It's great for planning secret activities like surprise trips or parties, or even to talk about personal information that you don't want the whole world 🌎 easily knowing about. With over 50 ways to hide your messages, no one will know what you're saying unless they receive the message.

We were going host a small event with our friends to test our apps but as a result of the epidemic, many of our friends are struggling through hard times therefore we have been unable to do so. We would be very grateful if you would test our app. Because the app is a keyboard it will cost 0.99 USD in the future, but for the beta test you can download it for free during the beta test. We would love some feedback on how the keyboard looks and functions on the variety of different android devices. In addition, if the tutorial is clear enough.

Download Cipher for free on Google Play Store:
    https://play.google.com/apps/testing/com.sdd.games.keyboardcipher

    Enjoy and Thanks :)

[DEV] We just released a beta of Cardinal, a modern Bilingual Dictionary combined with a spaced-repetition Flashcard system. Quickly lookup millions of words and usage examples and add them to decks for studying.

    Posted: 28 Jul 2020 03:23 PM PDT

We're a two-person team that's been working on a bilingual dictionary and flashcard system for the past year, and we'd love to get some feedback from the community!

We started the app because we couldn't find an English dictionary that let you save, study, and get reminded of the words you look up. After building in the spaced-repetition algorithm (SM-2), we eventually snowballed the app into a way to memorize languages as well.

Right now, we support looking up words and phrases in 7 languages: English, Spanish, French, Italian, German, Portuguese, and Catalan, with other languages, like Chinese, Japanese, Korean, and Russian coming soon.

    Play Store link here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.olsonmartin.dictionary_app

    Image gallery: https://imgur.com/gallery/Se52An4

    Video link: https://streamable.com/r71ljj

Cardinal is available for public Beta testing, and you can use this code (up to 50 users) to get all features unlocked for 3 months.

To apply the code, download Cardinal, create an account, go to Settings > Settings > Scroll to bottom, and enter code: androidapps-beta.

After the first 50 users, this code will no longer work for new accounts.

Premium features include everything in free tier + the following: unlimited decks, prebuilt decks, advanced neural voices from Google and Microsoft, cloud backup, full study streak history calendar, download decks to practice offline, add vocabulary from frequency lists in all supported languages, phrase decks and cards.

Free tier currently includes: the full dictionary and phrase lookup in all supported languages, vocabulary flashcards, word pronunciation practice, and weekly study streak, several light and dark themes. Free tier does not include phrase saving or phrase pronunciations.

We built Cardinal for two major use cases:

    1. Those who want a beautiful dictionary for looking up words, quickly saving to favorites, and never forgetting what you looked up with scheduled reminders and spaced-repetition flashcards.

Additionally, there is an English Word-of-the-Day widget that has three word sources — Wiktionary, Oxford, Merriam Webster — a Favorites reminder widget, and a quick lookup widget, which opens to the search screen and provides both keyboard or voice lookup.

    -----------

    1. Those looking to further develop a secondary language. This was one of our main driving forces for working on the app for so long.

During COVID-19 lockdown we thought it would be a good time to work on learning a secondary language in our free time. There are a plethora of apps that teach languages up to about A1/A2 level but I couldn't find anything that really helped beyond that.

Essentially I just wanted a tool to augment the rest of my language learning journey after finishing apps like Duolingo and still having a giant gap between that to fluency.

This meant we needed the following:

    • A great dictionary with the ability to easily and quickly add custom vocabulary to a good spaced-repetition flashcard system.
    • The ability to easily add premade phrases and/or build custom phrases and use them in the flashcard system.
    • Flashcards that support three card types: (1) word to definition, (2) definition to word, (3) voice to definition + word.
    • Ability to play custom phrase decks as an audio album to work on ear training, which also ended up being good for walking/exercising.
    • Neural language processing to work on pronunciation.
    • A good selection of very high-quality voices to choose from. These ended up being much better than the default phone voices.
    • Contextual phrase drilling for those hard to remember words (like para vs. por in Spanish).
    • Easily browse through words based on frequency and add them to my decks.
    • Calendar with study streak history.
    • Flashcards needed to allow tapping through and seeing detailed definitions and usage examples without being forced to leave my learning session. Without a built-in dictionary, this is something that's not possible.
    • Frequencies on every word so we wouldn't waste time learning advanced vocabulary that is rarely used.

Originally this was just a fun side project, but after getting the core features down it seemed like something that a lot of people may have interest in!

I'd love to get beta feedback and thoughts (especially bug reports), it's mostly just been us two and a small set of acquaintances testing it so far.

Note on pricing: this may have to be adjusted, but we always wanted to offer a really good completely free dictionary, with pronunciation, flashcards and phrase lookup. The subscription is more for intense, intermediate language learners needing a lot of pronunciation, bulk imports and phrase card practice/saving.

I know the app has a lot going on, and at the moment there isn't any onboarding, We're working on a document to outline everything, and will hopefully have that soon.

If you try Cardinal and would like to leave feedback, feel free to post to our subreddit here: https://www.reddit.com/r/cardinalapp

    Is DroidCam secure?

    Posted: 29 Jul 2020 09:03 AM PDT

I have an old smart phone and want to video call with my friends. The smart phone has multiple HD cameras, and dedicated webcams are expensive, so I figure "why not use my old phone as a webcam?" It turns out that this is possible with an app called DroidCam, but I am not sure if this is secure because I know nothing about the developers. Does anyone know anything about this?

Need an app that records ambient sound with a simple command

    Posted: 29 Jul 2020 12:42 PM PDT

Hi there I'm planning to gather evidence against my boss as he's demanding out loud things that aren't in my contract basically making me work extra and for free.

He's very outspoken how people who do not help with these tasks are not team-players hence they're not necessary in the company letting me know in a not so subtle way that I might be fired.

So I need some sort of app I can use at a moment's notice since my job almost always requires me to have my personal phone nearby, what are some good apps for this?

    Thanks in advance!

Looking for an app that lets me overlay a picture over a camera, like onion skin style.

    Posted: 29 Jul 2020 11:32 AM PDT

Looking for a camera app with the option to overlay a picture over the frame -- the overlay will not appear in the finished picture. I've found onion skin apps on the app store, but almost all of them have very low reviews so I'm not entirely trusting.

    Thank you.

Why gallery apps, at least most popular ones, don't feature "bottom carousels" anymore? [See image in post]

    Posted: 29 Jul 2020 07:45 AM PDT

I have noticed that nowadays every gallery app lacks that bottom carousel with a mini thumbnail list showing media on the same album. For example, on my Samsung Galaxy S5 (phone is from 2015), the Gallery app has it, but on newer phones' or Android's stock gallery there isn't.

Here's a sample I've made so you can see what I'm talking about:

Do you prefer it like that? I want to know your opinion

Video editor for Android that can place anchored text boxes that follows selected items in the video?

    Posted: 29 Jul 2020 10:57 AM PDT

Looking for a video to photo grabber app that will preserve the date of the original video into the new photo.

    Posted: 29 Jul 2020 10:35 AM PDT

I tried the Google photos app that has a new feature extract frame during editing which does work and preserves the date however it's not real user-friendly yet for multiple screen grabs. I found an Android app that works real good at grabbing photos but doesn't preserve the date of the original photo onto the new screen grab.

It's called Video to Photo Frame Grabber. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.appspelago.videotophotos

Does anyone know of a similar app that will preserve the video date on to the newly creatived photo?

Just published my first app, Musinity, which (currently) generates music based on three genres!

    Posted: 29 Jul 2020 09:50 AM PDT

I've recently been learning about Tensorflow and ML and thought it would be a cool project to create a music generator app, as I really like listening to music but am not talented enough to compose my own. The app essentially predicts the probability of playing a note, and you can use the slider on the player UI to adjust the threshold needed to play each note.

Currently, there are only three genres, all of which are played on a piano: ragtime, fast classical pieces, and Undertale.

If you can, please check it out on the play store.
