Looking for a good laptop for watching porn

    Posted: 30 Jun 2020 09:09 AM PDT

I'm looking for a laptop that would be great for porn: Watching already-downloaded 4K videos, downloading/streaming them online.

Some basic info to hopefully keep the moralizing down: 1) I'm married, my wife is cool with this and we're very open about it, in fact it'll be organized into "my stash," "her stash," "our stash" for watching together/using as inspiration for new things to try. 2) I travel for work a ton, so I spend a lot of nights alone in a hotel room and really don't need to be judged for what I do there. 3) Yeah I know I could just fire up Pornhub. I'm into some stuff that's not accessible for free and/or is old and not easy to find online anymore.

    So my priorities:

    — 4K display. I'm not too familiar with terminology around displays and monitors, like what "IPS" means or anything like that. So I'd like to get some recommendations on a good one.

    — Room to add lots of storage, so fairly accessible spots for at least two and maybe even three SSDs, or one or two SSDs and a big HDD, or whatever.

    — Reasonably lightweight would be nice. I'm fine with like a 13" or 14" display, but certainly not opposed to 15" if it's a pretty thin laptop.

I don't care if it's a touchscreen or if it rotates into like a tablet form. Those might be nice features, like I'm not opposed at all, but I wouldn't pay extra for them.

I won't be doing serious productivity or gaming or anything on this, so no worries about any of that. A processor good enough to give this at least 5+ years of life would be great though.

I know I could just put this all on an external storage device, but I just prefer not really having it ever even touch my work laptop or devices I use for serious productivity stuff and not dealing with dongles.

Let's call the budget a flexible $1,200. It would be great to spend less than that, and more isn't a huge problem, but I want to give folks a general target.

EDIT: On the budget, 1) it does not include the storage I'm looking to add. And 2) some have mentioned that 4K displays cost more. That's cool, my budget is flexible, I'm open to thoughts.

[EU] Looking for a laptop for Uni that could handle gaming and other daily tasks easily

    Posted: 01 Jul 2020 04:02 AM PDT

    LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE

    • Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US:

      <1500 EUR

    • Are you open to refurbs/used?

      nope

    • How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?

Well perfomance first of all, then battery life, build quality, form factor

    • How important is weight and thinness to you?

Really important. I don't want to carry a huge box with me. I'd like to be as thing as it's possible, without compromising temps and performance.

    • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.

      I guess around 15.6" ?

    • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.

Mostly will be doing coding/gaming/watching media. May do some rendering or some video/photo editing.

    • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?

Playing mostly FPS (CS:GO, Valorant) but also play some MMORPG and AAA titles

    • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?

Well I'd love a good quality backlit keyboard with a numpad(would be nice if it had one), good cooling system (so it doesn't overheat to the point where it's impossible to touch the laptop), a good screen with decent colours

    • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.

I've seen people recommending Zephyrus G14 much, and I was thinking about getting it (but in Eastern EU it seems to be a bit more expensive than 1500 EUR). Before that I was planning to buy a DELL 15 G5 5590, it seemed pretty nice based on reviews and specs.

Beat all-in-one laptop for school (US)

    Posted: 30 Jun 2020 10:56 PM PDT

    Hey y'all,

I'm in the market for a new laptop for college that can basically handle anything i throw at it whether that be intense gaming, 4K video editing, music production, and general productivity. I was initially looking for a MBP 16 but the switch to ARM kinda signaled me not to. I would say my budget is <$3000, so it's safe to say I would need a reliable enough machine to last me a long time.

The two main choices I was looking at are the Razer Blade 15 and Zephyrus G14, but I'm open to other recommendations as well. It also doesn't matter if the processor is AMD or Intel.

13-14” Laptop for streaming films, office work and light games also potential photo/video editing

    Posted: 01 Jul 2020 03:33 AM PDT

    Hi,

I've decided I would really like the HP envy as I'm after something thin and light that looks good and it's also in my price range. There is a couple different specifications and I was wondering what you think would be best ?

    All laptops have 8gb ram

    • 10th gen i5 with MX250 2gb and 256gb ssd

•10th gen i5 with uhd graphics and 512gb ssd

    • 8th gen i5 with MX250 2gb and 256gb ssd

    •8th gen i5 with MX250 2 gb and 512gb ssd

•10th gen i7 with iris plus graphics and 1tb ssd

These all are similarly priced between 800-860

I am inclined to go with the i7 but not sure if I would be better with an older processor and dedicated graphics, look forward to hearing your opinions.

    Thanks

performance, battery life, form factor, build quality

I would prefer the weight to remain between 1-2 kg, thinness is not too important
    • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.
      Preferably 15", not too important

Minecraft, League of Legends, Rainbow Six Siege

Looking to buy my first gaming laptop, please help

    Posted: 01 Jul 2020 02:16 AM PDT

    LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE

    • Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US:
<2000 USD, hopefully around 1800 if possible
    • Are you open to refurbs/used?
      No
    • How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?
Top priority is longevity considering I want this laptop to last me for as long as possible, other than that, performance, battery life, and build quality are my second, third, and fourth priorities respectively
    • How important is weight and thinness to you?
I'd like it to be fairly thin since I will be using it for college but I can handle heavier weight if needed.
    • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.
Preferably 15-inch screen, at least 144 Hz
    • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.
Definitely gonna do a decent amount of gaming. I'd really like the laptop to be able to run fairly demanding games such as The Witcher 3 on high settings.
    • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?
Some other games might be Ryse: Son of Rome, KC:D. If it could hit around 60 FPS for demanding games on high settings I would be extremely happy.
    • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?
I'd prefer the laptop to have reliable build quality. Finger-print reader and/or windows hello would be nice add-ons but definitely not a necessity. Also, a good port selection would help a lot but I'm willing to compromise.
    • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.
So for the past while I've been looking at the GS66 stealth since I want a non-gamer looking laptop. There's 2070 Max-Q version with 16GB RAM, 1TB SSD, and 240 Hz screen listed on BestBuy for 1800$ which I thought to be a decent price for the quality. The main thing that has been putting me off though is everything I'm hearing about the extremely loud fan noise and high temps.
One more important thing is that even though I will be purchasing from the US, I live abroad and so will be using it abroad, so I'm hoping I won't need to frequently contact support or even possibly make an exchange. Thank you all in advance for the help :)

    • How important is weight and thinness to you?\*

      N/A

    What matters

    Posted: 01 Jul 2020 12:52 AM PDT

Hey guys, a friend of mine asked me if I could help her choose a laptop for her uni. Mainly she will use programs like office etc. I suggested her that she should look out for a laptop with a good CPU. As I know, the graphics chip isn't that important for her usage. (am I right?) As I googled around I found many laptops around 500€ still use Intel Pentium processors. My brother had a pentium in his laptop in the past, and he said it was really bad, though he also used to game on his laptop. Are they better these days or where they also good in the past but just not for the gaming aspect? 8GB DDR3 RAM should be enough I guess. How big should the SSD be? Thanks in expand!

    A laptop for grad school

    Posted: 01 Jul 2020 04:26 AM PDT

Hi! My last laptop just died so I'm looking for a good quality laptop to write on and to store my music/movie collection on. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    • Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US:

      ~1000 USD max

    • Are you open to refurbs/used?

I'd prefer not to but if there's a great deal I'll look into it

    • How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?

I absolutely do not want a 2 in 1 or a touchscreen. Good battery life is a plus, good build quality is a plus.

    • How important is weight and thinness to you?

I'd like something on the smaller side but I can accept a bigger laptop if it means more storage

    • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.

      13-14in

    • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.

Light gaming, stuff like ck2 and eu4 on occasion (at at least 45ish fps)

    • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?

      See above

    • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?

I'm looking for a good (hopefully durable and quiet) keyboard since I'm going to be writing a lot, and a lot of storage for my music/movies (1tb would be sufficient). HDMI out is a must. Headphone jack is a must.

Looking for a £600-800 laptop mostly for work and organisation, but can also play civ vi, euiv and possibly total war?

    Posted: 01 Jul 2020 04:21 AM PDT

    Hi ther

Looking to upgrade my laptop, and I do like to play some games on steam but nothing too intensive - total war being the most intense thing I would potentially play. Otherwise it would mostly be used for work, streaming and planning dnd. My budget is £600-800.

I'd also like to be able to play monster hunter world, but I realise that a laptop that can play that at this price point might not be an option.

    LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE

    • Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US:
      £600-800
    • Are you open to refurbs/used?
      Yes
    • How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?
Performance and build quality are most important to me. Looking for a 256SSD at least, and at least 8GB of RAM.
    • How important is weight and thinness to you?
      Not too important
    • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.
      N/A
    • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.
      CIV VI, EUIV, Total War
    • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?

    • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?
      A good keyboard

    Laptop for mechanical engineering student

    Posted: 30 Jun 2020 07:33 PM PDT

I made a post before but my topic changed slightly so I decided to make a new post.

I need a laptop for school in the fall and have narrowed it down to a couple of options. My school requires us to have a laptop with i7, 16 gigs ram, and a "decently powerful dedicated graphics card with at least 4 gigs". I know a good deal about desktops and gaming components as I've built many but not much about laptops and CAD applications. I don't know if a workstation card is needed or recommended or if a gaming card works about the same. The main question is how important is having a workstation gpu over a gaming gpu?

    LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE

Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US: Around $2500

Are you open to refurbs/used? No for computer yes for iPad

How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life? Top of the line

How important is weight and thinness to you? nothing over 5 pounds and needs to be relatively sleek

Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. 15"

Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. CAD, Solid works, other engineering software and some gaming

If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? Looking for around a 2070 but if a workstation gpu is better then I will look into that but I don't know much about them

Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? High-quality build and backlit keyboard. If it is one I can write on like a 2 in 1 that is a plus but only if it is still powerful enough for 4-5 years. Either a high refresh if its something like the Razer or a good old ips if it is a workstation.

Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. I have been looking at the Razer Blade 15 with the 2070 max-q. This is around $2000. If it is absolutely most convenient and need be I am willing to buy an IPad and Apple pencil too for around $400 which would bring the total cost to my budget of $2500 when including my external harddrive. I have a good PC at home with a 2080 super and 8700k and would like to stream it to an iPad or even a surface that I can write on if this is easy and works well. In general, I'm ok to fork out some money now for convenience in the long term.

I want to be able to write on something as well so I have a few possible options I came up with

    1. Razer Blade 15 with 2070 and an IPad with Pen
    2. Surface Book 3 or Lenovo Yoga with Pen (hoping to find something more powerful for the long term though)
    3. Workstation laptop (maybe a dell precision) and an IPad with Pen

I haven't been quite honest with myself and I miss my gaming.

I play some old games like HoMM III, CS:GO, but also I'd like to be able to play Blizzard games like W3 Reforged, Diablo IV.

I've more than liked the 16", definitely better than the 14" Lenovo I had before.

    LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE

    • Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US:
      7_000 RON (Romania)

      performance, battery life, build quality.

    • How important is weight and thinness to you?
Weight is not so important (but I'd appreciate a normal, non-gaming look)

    • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.
      -15.6" to 17"

    • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.
      Gaming, see in the description

    • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?

      - no touch-screen, no optical drive, I'd like a good keboard, figerprint reader

Laptop great for travel; Mainly coding and light gaming ($1000-$1500)

    Posted: 30 Jun 2020 11:29 PM PDT

    Hello everyone,

I'm currently looking for a decent laptop to game on and be able to do some coding. The games I'll most likely be playing are Sims 4, The Witcher 3, and Borderlands. I eventually want to do a PC build so I just need something to tie me over until that happens.

Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. $1000-$1500

    Are you open to refurbs/used?

I'm not completely opposed to them especially since I want to do a build in the future.

How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?

I would say performance, battery life, build quality, and then form factor.

How important is weight and thinness to you?

I don't want anything too heavy since this will be more on the go once I do my pc build.

Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.

    At least 14"

Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.

May do some photoshop every now and then. I also use Figma a lot to come up with ui designs. Games I'll mostly be playing are sims, borderlands, and the Witcher 3.

If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?

Sims 4, borderlands, Witcher 3 60 FPS Mainly will be playing the Sims so anything that can run that smoothly will be great.

Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?

Realizable Build Quality and good battery life

Durable laptop for coding ~1k CAD budget

    Posted: 30 Jun 2020 10:53 PM PDT

    • Total budget$1000 Canadian
    • Are you open to refurbs/used?Yes but wouldn't want to pay full budget for it
    • How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?Looking for great build quality, I am used to old school Lenovo T series, want something sturdy and solid feeling. Performance is also important, don't care much about weight or battery life.
    • How important is weight and thinness to you?Not important
    • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.Prefer 15'' or larger
    • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.Main use will be coding and browsing internet
    • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?Keyboard, build quality, sufficient video output ports to connect to 2 HDMI monitors is important

In the past I've always gone with Lenovo but not sure what is good these days. I see a lot of Ryzen deals lately that look nice but I don't care for 2-in-1 tablet style laptops, I'd rather something durable. I like the metal chassis on the Surface laptops but they don't seem repairable/upgradeable at all.

    Laptop that doesn't overheat easily.

    Posted: 30 Jun 2020 10:27 PM PDT

i'm considering to buy the baseline macbook air 2020, however, i'm afraid that it wouldn't be able to support my daily tasks and will easily heat up.

i'm still a student so all of my tasks are pretty much basic, web browsing, microsoft office aside from our online classes would require lots of hours of video conferences via google meet and zoom. im afraid that the mac would heat up easily with estimated 2-3hour video calls that would occur twice or thrice a day. also i'll be multitasking and opening bunch of tabs for research and stuff.

do you have any recommendations with laptops that doesnt overheat easily given the tasks mentioned above. i prefer it to be lightweight, fast, will last for years and same price range as the baseline macbook air 2020.

Hi everyone, hope this community can help! Looking for an alternative to my current laptop. Would like it to be as light as this Lenovo Yoga 710 and as speedy if possible (using for work). Brands I prefer would be Toshiba or HP! Any suggestions are highly welcome.

    LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE

    • Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US:

      70-120$ USD

    • Are you open to refurbs/used?

Although my mom hates them, I am very open to them :)

    • How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?

I don't care as long as it can fit in a school bag and battery can last a 12-24hrs I'm good

    • How important is weight and thinness to you?

My back already hurts a lot for 14 so a bit more on the light side but if that makes it cost more it's fine

    • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.

Not really but big enough a normal sized app like steam can fit and it doesn't have shrink but not to big because I already have bad eyesight

    • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.

I need to be able to run Abelton and other music programs, I need to be able to run a vm and a normal browser without it freezing up (not all of these at the same time of course around 6-8gb of ram will do)

    • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?

      Nope no games on pc

    • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?

As long as it can take a bump in the wall and keyboard won't press random buttons on me it's good

[SQ] How long can an Acer laptop last?

    Posted: 30 Jun 2020 09:14 PM PDT

Maybe I'll buy an Aspire E15, but as I've seen, their customer service is not so good and I want something that lasts 3 years at least.
