I'm looking for a cheap laptop that I will barely use for things other than taking notes and youtube- will a HP Folio 9470m notebook do the trick?

    Posted: 30 Jul 2020 12:25 PM PDT

Someone near me is selling a modified (?) HP Folio 9470m notebook for $120 with these specs:

    core i5-3337u processor

    8gb ram,

    128gb solid state drive

Not sure about the GPU, Im asking about it.

I have a desktop for all the powerful stuff, so will this laptop be okay for basic video streaming (YouTube and Twitch) and Microsoft office? And is the price fair?

Edit: oh and by the way, I only need it to last about 2 years

What is the best way to keep batteries on windows laptop long-lasting?

    Posted: 30 Jul 2020 12:16 PM PDT

So I've just replaced my xps 13 battery and I want to use it more efficiently. Any tips? Should I stop charging when it is at 100 percent? Should I charge when it is at 0 or 20 percent? Is it better to shut down or put my laptop in sleep mode?

Subs To Sell Previously Owned Laptops?

    Posted: 30 Jul 2020 10:02 AM PDT

Are there any reputable subs where I can feel comfortable enough advertising my laptop to see if I get any interest in someone buying it off from me? Or maybe subs where people buy laptops to take apart and salvage parts/do their own mods or something like that?

Considering the year and where it's at, the most I'd ask for is $200 maybe $300 if they're going to break it down and tear it apart. I'm trying to save up enough money to be able to buy a different laptop and I don't use this one anymore due to various technical issues (broken left click on mousepad... battery issues)... so ideally, I'd like to find someone who is only really interested in it to like take apart and isn't expecting to actually rely on it for anything serious.

It's a Razerblade 2016 model. I bought it from secondhand from a friend back when they were the rage. It held up for the most part all the way through the middle of college and he previously had it when it first was released.

Or maybe someone who just feels nostalgic and wants a razerblade purely for nostalgia, lmao.

But yeah, can anyone maybe point me in the direction where I can find these people who might be interested in buying and taking apart laptops or whatever?

Need help choosing a laptop for University

    Posted: 30 Jul 2020 08:09 AM PDT

Hello fellow redditors. I am an electrical engineering student and i could use some help when it comes to choosing my first laptop. I think that a 2in1 laptop suits me best because i already have a desktop for gaming and more heavy workloads, plus i would really like to take notes on a laptop so they can remain organised. I would like your opinion and some buying suggestions but i already flagged the lenovo flex 5 with r7 4700u and the hp envy x360(my budget is about 1000€) needless to say i am open to other suggestions as well and i would like to know if note taking on a 2in1 laptop is feasible and not just a gimmick. Thank you in advance.

Which is better AMD CPU or Intel CPU in general and for me?

Which is better AMD CPU or Intel CPU in general?

I will be using the laptop for programming, video editing, photo editing, above light- lower mid range gaming. I will be playing games like COD, Fortnite, PUBG, Warzone, Apex, Modern Warfare, GTA V, etc.

Also I will be using virtual machines too. At most 2 actives when I am using them. They won't be running for always only when I want to test out something.

So which will be better for me?

    Dell E5450 Boot problem

    Posted: 30 Jul 2020 12:55 PM PDT

I've had this laptop for about a year now, and this happens pretty randomly, but sometimes when I reboot it says Dell on the screen and you can hear the fans bit it doesn't go into windows. I have to do it 2 or 3 times before I get into windows. Any idea of what this is?

Is there a dongle that lets you charge through a usb port AND use the port itself?

    Posted: 30 Jul 2020 08:46 AM PDT

I have a 4k monitor, keyboard, and mouse that all need to be plugged into my laptop. Unfortunately, my laptop only has 2 usb-c ports. If I use one of those ports for my monitor and another one for the peripherals, then I can't charge my laptop. Does anyone know a sort of dongle that, say, splits into usb-c and usb-a, where you can charge the laptop through the usb-c port and connect peripherals to the usb-a port? Thanks

Would getting a Dell G5 SE (144hz amd 4800h 3200m 512gb) be a good decision for longterm video editing, streaming, and occasional gaming/DAW use?

    Posted: 30 Jul 2020 06:29 AM PDT

    • Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US:

    $1200

    • Are you open to refurbs/used?

    No

    • How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?

I prefer a decent battery life for a laptop, something that wont have serious overheating problems. Also I dont expect something that has amd to play games better than a desktop or something with an i7, but but id like something that can do an okay job with games

    • How important is weight and thinness to you?

    I dont care

    • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.

    N/A

    • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.

TWITCH, Random DAWS like LMMS, Video editing(main priority), some light graphic design, Discord, play/mod games, Photoshop, emulate classic consoles, possibly use VR

    • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?

Minecraft, GTA SA, Skyrim(VR?), Mw2, Gmod, dark souls, Gta5, MW2019, VRLIFE For games like MW2019 that demand high performance id like atleast around the 55fps area on an high setting

    • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?

I really just want a battery that wont lead to problems from its serious overheating problem

    • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.

I was recommended this by a user on r/suggestalaptop, when initially i didnt know what i wanted from a laptop(im new to pc specs and all that) . After some more research, now im sure that i want a decent and reliable amd laptop that can handle my intended tasks and gaming https://www.bestbuy.com/site/dell-g5-15-6-gaming-laptop-144hz-amd-ryzen-7-8gb-memory-amd-radeon-rx-5600m-512gb-solid-state-drive-grey/6409421.p?skuId=6409421
