Posted: 27 Jun 2020 01:12 PM PDT Hi everyone, I'm looking for help to find the ideal laptop for a writer: I'm looking for a small, light and silent machine, almost exclusively to write text and read pdfs. The key element is the keyboard: since I'm otherwise working on OSX, I would have gone for the fanless macbook 2017, but the keyboard is just awful. Good battery is also a must. Any writers here who found their ideal digital typewriter? Thanks! [link] [comments]
Posted: 27 Jun 2020 10:01 AM PDT I purchased this about 2 years ago and have used it very very rarely. SSD isn't close to full. At this stage, it's essentially non-functioning. Webpages, programs, etc, all take far too long to load; it feels like the machine is at 100% capacity at almost all times. I would have expected this machine to run Photoshop (I'm a graphic designer / illustrator) without much issue, but the way the whole laptop reacts to programs as simple as Discord or Slack seems way way off. Am I bottlenecked by RAM? Should I just list this for sale with a disclaimer and move onto something far more powerful? Any and all help appreciated! If I've missed some key diagnostic info, let me know as well. Im leaning toward the MSI Stealth as it's a premium laptop , any concerns im missing ? [link] [comments]

Laptop battery health question Posted: 27 Jun 2020 01:26 PM PDT When I'm at home I plug my laptop into an external monitor and use external peripherals. I also have its charger plugged into so I basically treat like a desktop pc. Is it better to always have my laptop charging or to let it drain and then plug it back in? [link] [comments]

How to properly charge laptop? Posted: 27 Jun 2020 01:22 PM PDT Hello everyone, I just got my first personal laptop ever and want to keep it in best condition possible. My question is simple: when and how should I charge my laptop? should I charge it while it's off, on, on sleep? should I keep charger in while laptop is on 100%? [link] [comments]

Processors for laptops - Intel and AMD? Posted: 27 Jun 2020 07:15 AM PDT Hi guys I'm about to start looking into buying a new laptop, but before I start I was wondering if anyone could help me out with processors. From what my dad's told me previously, anything "Intelcore i5" and up is what I want to go for. Now, obviously, when looking at laptops I can tell that i7 and i9 would be better than i5 - but I'm not sure where the AMD series fits into it? I can't find a definitive answer on Google. Can anyone help me identify what the and equivalent of i5 is? A quick browse shows me the following options: AMD A4, AMD A6, AMD Ryzen 3, AMD Ryzen 5, AMD Ryzen 7 and AMD Ryzen 9. For reference, I'll mainly be using this laptop for playing Age of Empires, a lil bit of Sims, and probably quite a bit of online surfing. Ta! [link] [comments]

HP Elitebook 8460p ATI graphics chip failure Posted: 27 Jun 2020 01:07 PM PDT Due to no response from r/techsupport, I'm trying my luck on here. I own an HP Elitebook 8460p for about 5 years. It has been a really fast and reliable laptop, and I never really had any issues with it. However, a few days ago, I was watching a youtube video when suddenly the screen went black for a few seconds, and then went back to normal. I didn't really think much of it, until it happened again a few seconds later. I started getting worried, because the screen remained black, so I turned it off by holding down the power button for 10 seconds. I let it cool off for a few minutes and then attempted to turn it on again, and while the laptop booted normally from what I could tell, the screen wouldn't turn on. After a day of troubleshooting, I came to the conclusion that the graphics chip went bad (Hooking it up to an external monitor reveals that the laptop functions normal for a good 15 minutes, but after a while it starts displaying some weird artifacts and if you keep it turned on while its doing them it stops outputting to the external monitor). I really don't want to give it up as it's in a really good condition, so I'm thinking:
(I also forgot to mention that it only outputs to an external display, the laptop's display refuses to show anything.) [link] [comments]
Posted: 27 Jun 2020 12:49 PM PDT Guys, it's my first laptop, and will go to college to study computer engineering this year. My family selected this laptop- https://dl.flipkart.com/dl/dell-g3-core-i7-9th-gen-8-gb-1-tb-hdd-512-gb-ssd-windows-10-home-4-graphics-nvidia-geforce-gtx-1650-3590-gaming-laptop/p/itm61e547bd628ba?pid=COMFKYHFKBJATKVJ&cmpid=product.share.pp And I told them that there are many which give same specs, like -https://dl.flipkart.com/dl/asus-rog-strix-g-core-i7-9th-gen-8-gb-1-tb-hdd-256-gb-ssd-windows-10-home-4-graphics-nvidia-geforce-gtx-1650-g531gt-al030t-gaming-laptop/p/itmfg9yrxqepkhjh?pid=COMFG9YR8TJNXPED&cmpid=product.share.pp (They want me to take Dell because everyone in my family has dell, and my father's friend who sells the laptop, told him ASUS have hardware problems with poor service.) Should I convince them to take another laptop or just go with it? [link] [comments]

Recommended websites to sell laptops? Help on choosing price to sell at? Posted: 27 Jun 2020 12:37 PM PDT Hi, fairly new here, I've got a dell inspiron 15 7000 gaming laptop. i7-7700HQ, 1050ti, 128gb SSD, 1TB HDD, 16gb RAM. Had it for around two years, in the next week or so I'm going to put some new thermal paste on the CPU and possibly replace the CPU fan and give it an overall dusting and tidy up. It still has all of its stickers (DELL sticker, GEFORCE GTX sticker and intel sticker) is in fairly good condition, just general wear and tear besides one piece on the far right edge of the laptop, where the red and black lattice is its kind of popping out abit from underneath the casing (if that makes sense, will try get pics). It's served me well during uni, only reason I'm selling is to upgrade, I'm not looking to get the most money out of it, but somewhere in the £450-600 range would be nice. This leads me to my question(s), what website would you recommend I sell on? I was thinking EBay, Shpock and Gumtree though if there's any other websites better for selling laptops I'm all ears. I was thinking to set the price at maybe £550/600 whilst willing to take lower offers. I'll probably test frame rate and general graphic settings on games like fortnite, CS and Dota after re-pasting CPU and possibly undervolting it. Any suggestions and help is much appreciated!
