Gaming/School laptop for around 800$-1200$ Posted: 24 Jun 2020 07:34 PM PDT I'm getting a laptop for school this coming semester but I also want something that is capable in terms of gaming. I don't need to have the highest graphics on every game but would like to be able to run most/all games such as R6S. I would say in terms of a school laptop I would like the best battery life possible and have it not be extremely large (I would be okay with a bigger laptop just not some of those massive ones you see) I'm not very experienced in terms of specs but I'll trust your recommendations and I would like to thank you in advance! submitted by /u/SimonSaysMassey [link] [comments] |

An all around laptop under $900? (Preferably 2-in-1) Posted: 24 Jun 2020 10:13 PM PDT LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US: Preferably below $900, but if it's THAT good of a steal I could probably push it to $950. Are you open to refurbs/used? No. How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life? Preferably a 2-in-1 with a pen that comes along with it. Performance > build quality > battery life. How important is weight and thinness to you? Very. I'll probably be carrying it around everywhere. Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. 13 inches minimum (better if 15 though). Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. I'll be working around MS office most of the time, but I'll also probably have several browser tabs open with the occasional photoshop/sony vegas. I do a little bit of light gaming. If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? Csgo, I guess. don't really mind running games with the lowest settings, if that helps. Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? It has to have the AMD Ryzen 4000 series and at least 300 nits. (EDIT: This has turned into a preference, I'm open to other options!) Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. It'd be great if you'd be able to drop the link of the laptop you're recommending! (US or PH links). Note: I'm currently eyeing the HP Envy x360, but I'm still looking for other recommendations before finally settling with it! :D Thank you! submitted by /u/psyducklingss [link] [comments] |

Looking for a 2 in 1 laptop for univeristy and I'm trying to get an idea of what's good out there Posted: 25 Jun 2020 05:18 AM PDT Here goes the questionnaire - Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US:
If I had to set a max budget for the moment I'd say 1000€ (Italy) , but I'm here mainly to know what kind of 2 in 1 grants the best overall value for my needs ( even if it goes way above or below 1000€). - Are you open to refurbs/used?
Only if grants a very good deal. - How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?
form factor>battery life>performance>build quality. - How important is weight and thinness to you?
Must be a pretty light laptop (no need for ultra light though) as I'd need to bring it around with me while going to lectures/go out to study. - Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.
A 13 inches screen would be ideal ( 14 is still acceptable) - Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.
Need to run word, one note, general web browsing and media consumption. I do not intend on running any games except some old/light ones, as gaming is no priority here. - If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?
Some games I might run would be C&C Generals, TBOI and maybe a light MOBA all at low settings. - Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?
The touch-screen is a must as well as some kind of stylus compatibility (preferrably stylus included with the laptop), needs to also be a 2 in 1 convertible. I'm also looking for a laptop to last me 5/6 years both build/performance wise (for the performance it just needs to able to handle the tasks listed above except gaming). An 8 hrs minimum battery would be nice also. - Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. Thanks for the attention and I just hope I'm not being too delusional here ;)

Which laptop should I get? Posted: 24 Jun 2020 11:30 PM PDT |
Gaming/School laptop, help please. Posted: 24 Jun 2020 11:04 PM PDT So I at first I went for the Zephyrus G15, but I didn't liked it, it got pretty hot and some other stuff. I was able to sell it and make some money from that (I don't live in the US, laptops here are pretty expensive). Now I'm about to buy the Zephyrus G14, I love what they say about it in the Youtube reviews! (I didn't check this with the G15, I would know about the clogged vents). LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE - Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US:
$1500, I don't live in the US but it's ok since I can get the laptop here. - Are you open to refurbs/used?
I want something new since it's difficult for me to return the laptop in case it's a problem with it. - How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?
Performance > build quality > battery life - How important is weight and thinness to you?
I've been carrying an Alienware all around so I'm tired of heavy laptops, I want something light. - Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.
Anything in 14" and 15" it's ok. - Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.
So I do a lot of CAD since I'm studying Mechanical Engineering, I run stuff like SolidWorks, Inventor, Ansys, MatLab and a lot of stuff like that. In Games I'm looking to run things like Warzone, CSGO, GTA V and so. - If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?
I'd like to try games at their highest. I also play League of Legends and Valorant A LOT, i don't know if the 120 Hz screen on the G14 is going to be a big issue or what... anyway, it's not like I'm a pro player so it's ok. - Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?
Not really. - Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.
I really, really like the G14 and the portability, I was about to buy it today, butt hen I saw models like the MSI G66 and I'm not sure anymore. Sorry for my typos if I had any! submitted by /u/gsgustav [link] [comments] |
Starting Data Scientist undecided between Razer Blade Stealth and Surface Laptop 3 Posted: 25 Jun 2020 02:38 AM PDT LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE - Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US:
2 000€ - living in Belgium I can buy on European webshops. - Are you open to refurbs/used?
Would prefer a new model - How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?
I am looking for a Laptop with great performance, build quality and good battery life (at least 8h on light tasks) - How important is weight and thinness to you?
As I am upgrading from a Macbook Air I would like to keep around the same form factor. - Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.
13" - Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.
I would like to use: - advanced Excel + Access
- PowerBI
- Jupyter Notebooks
- possibly Microsoft Azure
- from time to time:
- League of Legends
- Destiny 2
- If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?
As I am not a hardcore gamer I would be ok to play League of Legends and Destiny 2 at medium/ low settings at playable frame rates (60fps+). As I have a gaming PC to play at full settings. - Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?
As I like to write having a good keyboard and trackpad (coming from the legacy scissor switches and great glass trackpad of the Macbook Air). Touch-screen would be a nice to have but not necessary. - Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.
I love the form factor of the Razer Blade and also its higher power but I am afraid that I won't take full advantage of its performances with my use case. (Full "story below"). I'm looking to upgrade from my aging Macbook Air 2013 i7 I bought for college. As I am planning on growing in the field of Data Science I am looking at having a laptop that is fairly powerful. Ideally, I would like to game a bit on it (League of Legends and Destiny 2) but I do also have a Desktop PC to play Destiny 2 and other more demanding titles so it is not an absolute necessity to be able to game. My choice reduced to two options the Surface Laptop 3 (yes Laptop, not Book) 13inch with i7, 16GB of RAM, and 256GB of storage or the Razer Blade Stealth 2020. The price difference would be more or less 400€ (1 575€ for the SL3 and 1 999€ for the RBS). I prefer the design and the bigger screen of the SL3 but the Razer Blade Stealth seems an all-rounder and with much higher performance. As I am only starting out to write code in Python, even my Macbook Air can handle the scripts without problem but I would like to utilize the advanced functions of Excel and Access which I can't do on my Macbook Air. My question would be if I start using more Data Science tools (Tableau, PowerBI, Jupyter Notebooks, Microsoft Azure) would I benefit greatly from the added GPU in the Razer Blade or should the power of the Surface Laptop be enough. Moreover, does anyone know if playing League of Legends on the Surface Laptop 3 is feasible? My fear is that I won't utilize the added power of the Razer and would be better off with the cheaper Surface Laptop 3 and have better battery life. submitted by /u/Nonomcno [link] [comments] |
Need the cheapest laptop possible to experiment in Linux Posted: 24 Jun 2020 06:55 PM PDT LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE - Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US:
Preferably below $300 AUD (Australian Dollar) - Are you open to refurbs/used?
I'm fine with refurbs, would rather not get a used. - How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?
I would like it to be as light as possible so I can carry it around everywhere instead of bringing my heavier laptop. I would like the build quality to also be decent so it wouldn't break when I throw it into my bag. Performance is not a priority as I have a bigger laptop, I would like it to just able to run lightweight Linux distros smoothly. I would like at least 5 hrs of battery life, the more the better. - How important is weight and thinness to you?
Weight is pretty important, don't really care about thinness. - Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.
Would prefer it to be 13" or 14" as my 15" laptop barely fits in my bag. - Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.
Not running any heavy apps, mainly Linux, a text editor such as Sublime or VS Code and a web browser. - If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?
Not gaming on this laptop. - Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?
A decent keyboard is important because I will be typing a lot. The build quality is important. A touch-screen would be preferred but not necessary. A fingerprint reader would be nice but also not important. A decent touchpad is important. - Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.
Right now the best option I found is the PineBook Pro for $200, it's unfortunately out of stock rn, so I want to know if there is something similar or better in that price range or if I should wait for the stock to come back. Thanks in advance. submitted by /u/TheAmazingArm [link] [comments] |
$1500 AUD for Mechanical Engineering course - Australia Posted: 25 Jun 2020 02:00 AM PDT LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE - Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US:
Preferably around $1500 AUD, but I can go up to about $1700-1800 AUD - Are you open to refurbs/used?
No, only new - How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?
Performance, Battery, Screen size, build quality, - How important is weight and thinness to you?
Not very important, but preferably a light laptop as I will be travelling to and from University with it almost daily - Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.
Preferably 15 Inches, nothing smaller than 14 Inches - Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.
Yes, I will be using it for a Mechanical Engineering degree so will need to run CAD, FEA, Excel, VBA and similar engineering software on it. - If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?
N/A - Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?
Not a requirement but I would like a nice backlit keyboard. - Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.
I am buying a laptop for my university course, mechanical engineering, so will need to have a good processor, graphics card and preferably 16 GB RAM and 512 GB or 1 TB of SSD storage. As a side note I would NOT like a gaming laptop if it looks 'obnoxious' with RGB lighting and those sorts of stand-out features, I'm just after a professional-looking, clean laptop. Having a look around I have seen the Acer Swift 5, here for $1500 AUD which looks like a solid laptop with good specs which matches my criteria. Please let me know your thoughts on this laptop, and what is good/bad for my uses. Thanks so much for your insight :) submitted by /u/UnnamedGoatMan [link] [comments] |
