Best <600$ laptop for computer science college student Posted: 24 Jun 2020 05:09 AM PDT Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US: Somewhat less than 600$, obviously the cheaper the better, in USA. Are you open to refurbs/used? Refurbished maybe, used no. How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life? Form factor is quite important, hopefully wont be too large to carry around in a backpack and lug around college. Build quality is important because I need it to last for a while and to be durable. Battery life is also very important, if the battery life is under 8 hours, it is necessary that it has a usb-c charging port so i can charge it on the go. As for performance, i expect an i5/ryzen 5 and that ram can be upgraded to 16 gb. How important is weight and thinness to you? The lighter/thinner the better if it doesn't sacrifice performance Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. 14 inch preferred, then 13 and 15 inch. Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. Not planning to. Main use of computer will be visual studio code and android studio for development. A dedicated gpu would always be nice but is not necessary. If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? N/A Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? Good build quality is very important since it'll be transported often. A good keyboard is necessary since I will be programming a lot on this laptop. A good screen would help as well seeing that i will spend a lot of my time on the laptop. Fingerprint reader is a plus. I really need a usb c port with power delivery so that I can extend the battery life of the laptop when I am on the go with a portable charger, unless if the battery life is something crazy like 10hrs or more. A good processor is necessary for multitasking (i5/ryzen 5 or better) and the more the ram the better. If under 16 gb it is important that the ram is upgradeable to at least 16 gb. $1000 College Laptop United States Posted: 23 Jun 2020 07:40 PM PDT Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US: Somewhere in the $1000 range. Could possibly be $1100. Obviously can be cheaper than 1k. Are you open to refurbs/used? Refurbished maybe, used no. How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life? I would never use a touchscreen, so no need to look for one with a touchscreen. It is going to be a college laptop, so itll be roughed up and needs to be durable in a backpack and on the go. I want something that is quick and good general use. How important is weight and thinness to you? Want something that is relatively thin and light cause I'll be carrying it around all day. I don't mind a little weight if it gives better performance. Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. I think 13 inch because they are lighter. I am planning on having a USB-C hub at the dorm. Was planning to have a keyboard, mouse, and monitor connected to it. Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. Going into engineering, so I might be doing some CAD (not to sure tbh). I have a gaming desktop at home, but I might want to play some light games like minecraft. I don't need anything that runs intensive games. If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? Minecraft, emulators, etc. A solid 60fps at 1090p would be nice. Like I said, I have a gaming rig at home that I can play the heavy games with. Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? Good build quality is very important since it'll be transported often. A good keyboard and touchpad would be nice for on the go, but I'll have it connected to an external mouse and keyboard while at the dorm. [link] [comments] |
This laptop has a 240hz screen, but will it even reach that? Posted: 24 Jun 2020 04:29 AM PDT The Asus RoG Zephyrus M GU502GV-AZ037T has a 240hz screen, but what fps rates will it even reach with these specs? Even at the lowest settings? Mainly for Fortnite. I feel like it doesn't add up to match the 240hz. The price is €1400. Intel Core i7-9750H 16 GB 512 GB SSD NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 I'm just wondering what the point of adding a 240hz screen is, when the laptop probably doesn't reach much higher than 140fps. Thanks for the help! [link] [comments] |
2 in 1 laptop for digital artists around $1000 Posted: 23 Jun 2020 09:12 PM PDT Hello, I am looking for a 2 in 1 laptop that I can draw and paint in Photoshop and illustrator. I just got an Acer Spin 3 a few days ago and while I really like how the pen works there are a couple things about it I can not deal with. My biggest problem is that colors display very dull and incorrectly, a big part of my job is picking Pantone colors for designs so it's really important to me that the screen can display a full range if colors. Bright red looks like a faded red on this laptop. Also you can not adjust the pressure sensitivity of the pen, I have to press down a lot harder than I have to on my Wacom tablet to draw lines in Photoshop. Illustrator has already crashed several and I've only had this laptop for three days. What I'm looking for is a 2 in one laptop with a vibrant accurate display. I mostly want to use the laptop for digital painting but will also be using it to work from home. I need to open a lot of files at once and have several programs running at once so I'm thinking I need at least 16 GB of RAM. I don't know any technical stuff about laptops so am not really sure what min. requirements I should be looking for outside of RAM. Any suggestions would be very appreciated, thanks! MSI GF65 Thin 9SEXR vs Razer Blade 15 V1 (2018) Posted: 24 Jun 2020 05:44 AM PDT Hi, I've been looking for a laptop I can take to college and I can play some games when I have some spare time. I can the MSI or the Razer Blade for around 1000€. If I get the MSI it will be a brand new one, but if I get the Razer Blade it'll be a refurbished one with 1 year warranty. I'd like some help on which one I should choose! Cheap Laptop that can handle video calls Posted: 24 Jun 2020 05:42 AM PDT So my girlfriend is a teacher and wants to do tutoring online over summer. Unfortunately her laptop is ancient and 9 years old and on its last legs. Except for video calling to do classes via Skype, she doesn't use her laptop for anything. She uses her phone and tablet for everything else. However, due to the way her work does things, doing her classes on a tablet is not an option. Essentially, she needs a laptop that would run Skype smoothly at the lowest possible cost. We are in Spain so would want to spend less than 300 EUR ideally. Thanks so much for any suggestions! Going to study 3-5 years of Computer Science soon at Uni, I need a new laptop Posted: 24 Jun 2020 05:38 AM PDT The price could be anywhere from 1000-1500. I'll get approx. 850 back from my old laptop so I'll put upwards of 650 on top of that to invest in a new one. I live in Norway if that helps. Was thinking about the Macbook pro 2019 with Touch Bar, costs 1350. It would really help if you guys recommended me a laptop and also why! Thanks in advance!! [link] [comments] |
Need advice/help changing my laptop RAM Posted: 24 Jun 2020 05:37 AM PDT Dear Sir/Madam, I'm writing here today because I'm in need of an advice. I have the exact same laptop as located in this amazon link : https://www.amazon.com/Dell-G5587-G5-15-Laptop/dp/B07L6LVJX5 Since I play games and usually watch twitch.tv, it takes a lot of RAM to process things. Since am an amateur in building PC's and constructing them, I need someone who has the brain to give an advice. I want to upgrade my 16 GB RAM to 32 GB RAM. The question is, what 16 GB RAM do I buy ? Because I have no idea what RAM's this laptop have, including voltage, speed and latency timings. I was already looking in to the market and I'm actually thinking of buying a single 32 GB ram The name of it is : CORSAIR DDR4 2666MHz 32GB 1x32GB 1x260 SODIMM Unbuffered 18-18-18-43 Black PCB 1.2V ( http://www.skytech.lt/cmsx32gx4m1a2666c18-corsair-ddr4-2666mhz-32gb-1x32gb-1x260-sodimm-unbuffered-181-p-476712.html ) If anyone could consultate me on this matter I would be grateful and if I could be any of help! Thank you for anyone who replies in advance. Kind regards, PiFZZAR [link] [comments] |

Or, for 2100€ I can get the top end 7590 (16gb,1TB, Oled, gtx1650) or a mid range new one, without oled and only 512gb ssd. Does the new gen bring anything else to the table except 10th gen cpus and better aspect ratio? [link] [comments] |
Thinkpad P73 vs MSI WS66 10TM? (both with top specs) Posted: 24 Jun 2020 04:36 AM PDT Hey folks, I work in architecture and design. I do a lot of heavy 3D modelling, graphic design and photography. I need to upgrade my portable system and I'm finding a lot of very similar specs on the market now which aren't making it an easy decision... My eye is primarily on the Quadro RTX 5000 GPU. I hope you can advise me on the decision I should make. Here are the current contenders: Lenovo Thinkpad P73 (Personal quote: $4,879.77 CAD)
MSI WS66 10TM (No quote yet / nor specific specs, consider best options)
Or alternative option? Your advise is much appreciated! _ ☣ [link] [comments] |
What laptop should I buy? (UK) Posted: 24 Jun 2020 04:18 AM PDT So for Christmas, I was planning on getting my Girlfriend a Macbook Air in Rose Gold, but I've realised that's not the best laptop for what she wants. She wants window based and a good speed for running games like Minecraft and The Sims, but I also want to get her a nice colour / pattern. An example of this was the Razer Quartz laptop, that doesn't ship to the UK. Are there any other suggestions? Thank you! [link] [comments] |

Laptop for Producing Music and Editing Software - €1800 Posted: 24 Jun 2020 02:25 AM PDT Hey guys, last time I posted I got ignored so here I go again. I am currently looking for a new laptop I can use for producing music and editing videos with adobe programs. My budget is €1800 / $2000, but if you think I could get something much better for a slightly higher price that's fine. Some specs I want in there: 16GB RAM and 1,5/2TB (Atleast 1TB HDD & 512GB SSD), Could you inform me about which laptop is the best or me to get? Lenovo l340 for 3d modelling, flow/structural simulations and gaming on the side. Good deal? (ITALY) Posted: 24 Jun 2020 02:17 AM PDT Based in italy so prices are horrible here. 1000 EUR budget I'm an university student so 15inch is really the maximum I can go for, portability, battery life and the looks are important to me since I don't want to look like a dork. I mainly want to conduct my engineering work but I'd like to be able to run recent games on 60fps on at least lowish settings. I'm seeing the lenovo 340l, with a 16gb ram, 9750H, gtx1650 4gb, 256 ssd and 1tb hhd going for 999€ I'm aware of the thermal throttling at 85°C but I have a cooling pad which I guess could help, but my only gripe is the single channel ram. I know it severly affects gaming performance but I'm wondering how bad it is and if it will affect other workloads considerably. My main worry is the future-proof of the device. I'm open to look at any other alternatives for same 1k price range. Excuse me for my poor english [link] [comments] |
