My view on the android gaming scene since owning a switch.

    Posted: 25 Jun 2020 11:51 PM PDT

    Let the ramble commence....

I was recently fortunate enough to be able to get a switch. I have been considering it for some time and it was mainly for breath of the wild. I knew it wouldn't be cheap but I had some expendable income and made the leap, bought one from Nintendo with that game and a few others.

Now, I have a few games on android that I saw were on the nintendo e-shop.

I will point out now, I don't have a lot of time to play games and I do have a small amount of expendable income, I am also very happy to pay for a game if the value for money is right for me. For example, completing breath of the wild in it's entirety can take up to 100 hours, and for a 50-60 quid game, to me that is good value for money.

Now back to my main point, switch games compared to android games. I have terraria, swords of ditto and a few kairosoft games, also this war of mine on android. I thought it may be nice to support the devs and also have them available to play on my switch as well.

Then I started seeing the price variance between switch and android

Most kairosft games come in at 11.99 on the switch compared to 4.29 on android for what is the same game with adapted controls for switch

This war of mine (complete edition) 35.00 on switch, price on android with addons, around 18.00

Swords of ditto on switch 13.49, on android 5.99

portal knights on switch 14.99, on android 4.99

terraria on switch 24.99, on android 4.59

Now in most cases, these are the exact same game ported between platforms.

Point 1 : I don't know who dictates the price, if it is nintendo or the dev's

Point 2 : I will be less likely to moan about the price of games on Android.

Now I also appreciate a lot of this is relative, if you cannot afford a £5 andoird game, that's all there is to it. But I don't think it is always reasonable to complain about value for money or the cost of android games conceptually.

£5.00 for an android game is not expensive, £25 for the same game is expensive.

Quite often on the sub, people say. xxx is too expensive for an android game.

I guess it would be good to differentiate between games for android being expensive (they aren't) and ensuring that it can be defined that either, 'I don't have the money', or 'the game is not interesting enough for me to pay that much'.

Really been enjoying rogue adventure because you can unlock new classes reasonably easily which keeps my interest going. Any other games like this?

Want to use a Portable Monitor to game on but I can’t get it to work.

    Posted: 26 Jun 2020 01:27 PM PDT

I have both a Samsung Galaxy S8 & a LG G6. When I plug the S8 into my monitor, nothing happens. When I plug my LG into the monitor, the monitor receives power from the phone but it doesn't get any video whatsoever.

Thoughts why? Is there some setting that I should turn on? I just want to game on a bigger screen.

Anyone have any extensive experience with FRAG?

    Posted: 26 Jun 2020 05:42 PM PDT

I've been downloading a BUNCH of games lately because I've been getting bored with the ones I usually play. Haven't had any luck whatsoever, until I found FRAG.

FRAG is a multiplayer arena shooter in which you create a team of 5 characters and try to lower your opponent's score to 0 by either killing enemies and making it to their side of the base to destroy their "flags" for lack of a better term.

When you start the match, you start as one of the 5 characters in your team. When you die, you can choose to respawn as any of the other characters and you take over control of them wherever they currently are on the map.

My apprehensiveness lies in the mechanics of how you collect characters. They're represented as cards and if you've ever played any type of gacha games then you know why I'm a bit skeptical.

    • There's 2 currencies, gold and gems. I'm sure you all know the implications of this. The character cards are gained by opening loot boxes and progressing in rank. You can upgrade them by spending duplicates of the card that you earn.

    • Spending money in this game is not limited to cosmetics and the more gems you have, the quicker you can open crates and buy gold, leading to stronger teams.

    • It's a multiplayer shooter. Don't think I need to give my reasoning for including it as a notable point.

    • The MTX starts at $0.99 but goes all the way up to $99.99

I've given money to many mobile games that I play. Sometimes it turns out to be worth the money, and sometimes $5 will get me another half hour to play before I'm once again overlapped by whales. I fully support devs when I enjoy their games. I spend $60 on PC games and if I get 30-60 hours out of it then I'm perfectly comfortable with spending that money.

I'm wondering if any of you have played FRAG to a point where you hit a heavy paywall. I've been playing for a few hours and it's not really showing any signs of shafting me if I don't spend money. But like I pointed out above, this game is the epitome of p2w in concept, and I don't want to eventually throw down some money for it only to learn that I'd need to continue doing it if I want to enjoy the game.

Games built purely around the minigames of Gardenscapes.

    Posted: 26 Jun 2020 04:01 AM PDT

As many of you are likely aware, Gardenscapes (and other -scapes clones by the same company) has blatantly false advertising. This is also prevalent with their game Fishdom, which is fun to some degree. I just discovered an ad for Hero Wars with the same ad. Many reviews are by upset gamers who felt misguided by the ads, because all they ever show is the minigames. Where you slide stuff around to save your person from certain death. Any game that actually utilises this playstyle as a base game mechanic? I'm not interested in playing "Candy Crush" copycats honestly.

Phigros is a very underrated Rhythm game which is completely free and free of IAPs and ads! Show the devs some love!
