Just had a chat with a Dell employer regarding G5 15 SE, thought you guys might also want to know Posted: 31 May 2020 03:19 AM PDT I saw some conclusions about the Freesync being available or not. Well, I asked and it is not available. My Freesync 144hz monitor will keep sitting in silence, I guess... Also, there is no second slot for an SSD. You are stuck with only one SSD or HDD+SDD, which is really sad for me since I have a spare SSD. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 31 May 2020 01:46 AM PDT Hi guys recently I've been trying to buy a laptop. I am currently in the United States. I'm still in college and starting a path in cyber securtiy so running Linux etc. Also id like the option of gaming and whatever might be thrown at me in the upcoming years. I've only purchased one laptop and that was in highschool and I rushed it. I bought it for its appearance alone. I'm new to purchasing laptops and not really sure what I'm doing. I've youtubed a bit about cpus and specs but that's all. So with these 2 I feel like im going for design again over performance. These are the laptops I've stumbled on and might purchase. I'm stuck in between them both. I'd appreciate suggestions if you don't think I should purchase these and if I should go for another laptop. Budget wise I don't really want to spend more than the laptops shown below. The xps 15 for 1,140$ 9th Generation Intel® Core™ i5-9300H (8 MB Cache, 4 Core, up to 4.10 GHz) Windows 10 Pro 64-bit English Intel® UHD Graphics 630 8GB DDR4-2666MHz, 2x4G 256GB M.2 PCIe NVMe Solid State Drive 6-Cell, 97 WHr The lenovo thinkpad This is for 1299$ 10th Generation Intel® Core™ i5-10210U Processor (1.60 GHz, up to 4.20 GHz with Turbo Boost, 4 Cores, 8 Threads, 6 MB Cache) Windows 10 Pro 64 8 GB LPDDR3 2133MHz (Soldered) 256 GB PCIe SSD 4 Cell Li-Ion 51Wh There is a version of the xps 15 that has a stronger cpuu Which I think might be worth it(if you don't think so let me know why) This is for 1349% 10th Generation Intel® Core™ i5-10300H (8MB Cache, up to 4.5 GHz, 4 cores) Windows 10 Pro 64-bit Intel® UHD Graphics 8GB, 2x4GB, DDR4, 2933MHz 256GB M.2 PCIe NVMe Solid State Drive Keep in mind I might upgrade my RAM in the future and I don't think lenova will allow me to do so. Id like the option of upgrading my laptop. Appreciate any advice thank you. [link] [comments] |

Is the 2020 6 Core Lenovo L340 Gaming laptop a good buy? Posted: 30 May 2020 10:09 PM PDT I've been looking for a good low-budget sleeper gaming laptop and one that I have been frequently coming across is the Lenovo L340. The lowest price I can catch it at is $959 from amazon and I want to know if that price is worth it or if I can get a better laptop for cheaper. [link] [comments] |

Thoughts on HP ProBook G7 445 with ryzen Posted: 31 May 2020 03:36 AM PDT Hello guys, I'm going to buy a laptop in next few weeks and so far my current choice would probably be HP ProBook G7 445 14" FHD with 250 nits Ryzen 4500u 8gb upgradeable RAM 512gb nvme ssd 45 Wh battery Some interesting features: quick charging (50% in 30min) via USB-C, water (spill) resistant keyboard, webcam shutter, wifi ax... What do you think about it ? It looks solid but I'm not a big fan of the bezzels and I don't know about how good the build quality and keyboard + trackpad is. I'd be using this laptop for 2d game development (unity + visual studio), general use (Netflix, browser, YouTube) and some light gaming (I'd play CSGO And maybe some old titles that could be enjoyed on the vega6 GPU). I can't precisely convert my currency to USD but I guess it'd be about 700 USD. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 31 May 2020 02:19 AM PDT Hello everyone! I am not very good at technical things and I am completely at a loss while I am choosing a new laptop now. My tech-savvy friends are helping but still there is too much confusion including holywar about the laptop brands. I need a laptop mainly for programming(python, web-development) and my budget is around 700-900euro. I'm in Madrid, Spain now. So after a couple of days on amazon the main option seems to be HP Pavilion 15-bc520ns: Intel Core i7-9750H, 16GB RAM, 1TB HDD + 512GB SSD , NVIDIA GTX1650-4GB. 15 inch display. It goes for 900euro now on a discount. It actually sounds quite good for me, but two main drawbacks here are: the absence of backlit keyboard - it's been my dream for a long time, and it must be a serious increase in quality of life as I work quite often in dim light. The other thing that raises my concern is a lot of reviews about extremely bad display quality. I don't know what is meant exactly, but too many people complain about it. The other option is Acer Swift 5 with Intel Core i7-10510U, 8GB de RAM, 512GB SSD and integrated video card. It has 14 inch display. It costs 700 euro now and obviously a bit less powerful than the said HP, but it has a backlit keyboard and better screen(at least it's said to be ips) and no bad reviews about it. Right now I have an old beaten HP Pavilion 17-inch. It's already dying but it' been working for 6 or 7 years and I can't complain about its quality, but obviously it's time to move on. So I'd be extremely happy if anyone can help me to figure out what's better or suggest any other option in the same price category. [link] [comments] |
$800-$1500 | USA | 2-in-1 for Drawing/Gaming/Simple Animation Posted: 30 May 2020 06:46 PM PDT My sister is a young creative who can no longer draw, watch videos, or play games (like Minecraft) with her dying ~$200 notebook. My parents are not the best with this stuff, so I want to find something more versatile for her. More details below. Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US: $800-$1500 USD. I initially thought $800-$1000, but it looks like the sweet spot for our needs could be up to $1500. I don't think there's any reason to go above this, but I am staying open-minded. Are you open to refurbs/used? Nope; we need something very reliable. I do not think my family will want to risk dealing with any nonsense. How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life? 2-in-1 is very important because she wants to draw on a screen with a stylus. Performance is next priority because she wants to do simple animatic-type animations and some light gaming. Build quality is next because it needs to be reliable. We probably need it to last at least a couple years. Battery life is less important at the moment because we don't expect to need to use it anywhere except at home, where it can be plugged in. How important is weight and thinness to you? Not at all important. She doesn't care and I think portability is not crucial right now. Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. N/A Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. She will be using Photoshop for illustration and some other undetermined software for making simple low frame animatic animations. She will want to play games like Minecraft or Human Fall Flat to start out with, but I suspect she may want to expand into other games in the future. Some room to grow would be very nice. Additionally, she would like to be able to record her gameplay (like Minecraft) and perform simple video editing if at all possible. If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? Minecraft, mid to high settings, mid to high FPS. At least this much, if not more. Again, room to grow into more demanding things would be very nice. Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? Preference for smooth keyboard with good tactile response. Not a deal-breaker. Build quality needs to be reliable enough to last a couple years. I know my family won't like the nonsense of returning a PC, but I understand it can be unavoidable sometimes. I know she wants to be able to draw on a screen with a stylus and a 2-in-1 is preferred because she won't want to reach over the keyboard. Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. It is possible that we could wait a couple months (as late as August) for the market prices to go down, but if that would only save roughly $200, then we probably aren't interested--unless it might bring something within our budget that was not previously. Also, this device would need to be suitable for school and have a way for her to talk to her friends on Discord (so either a fair onboard microphone or headset ports), but I think this would come along with the other requirements listed. First time posting here, so let me know if I should improve something. I appreciate the help everyone! [link] [comments] |

Can't choose between these two laptops Posted: 30 May 2020 04:21 PM PDT Hey yall so i've got my eyes on these two laptops and the main difference is that one has i5-9300h and the second one has i7-10750H. This is the only difference i care about between these two. Both have 1660ti and the first one doesn't have 16 gb ram but i will add 8 gb to it if i get that one. I want something that will keep me going for at least five years for gaming, so i dont know if i5 will be enough for that. Is 300 bucks more worth it for the second one or am I better off spending less money now instead of thinking about the future? Money is a factor but i'm willing to look past it if it means there's more longevity. Also for the second one i'll definitely have to wait a lot since the eta is like end of july. If you do have other laptops for suggestion then thermals is a top priority for me because i've had some bad experience in the past even with undervolting. https://www.walmart.com/ip/ASUS-ROG-STRIX-15-6-120Hz-FHD-Laptop-Intel-Core-i5-9300H-NVIDIA-GeForce-GTX-1660Ti-GDDR6-6GB-8GB-RAM-512GB-PCIE-SSD-Black-GL531GU-WB53/665853169 Or https://xoticpc.com/collections/asus-laptops/products/asus-rog-strix-g15-g512lu-rs74 [link] [comments] |

I'm a college Student who is going to graduate within a year. Any Suggestions for laptop? Posted: 31 May 2020 01:32 AM PDT I needed to but a laptop that's light, low price, good battery life and small, basically something that I can carry around a lot. Also, I also use it for making molecular structure so dedicated graphics card would be a plus. And as a college student I would also watch movies a lot.😅 After a lot of search I came upon Acer Swift 3. Any better choices I have missed? Anything I should be concerned about Acer Swift 3? My budget would be somewhere in between 40000 to 50000 in Indian rupees. Acer Swift 3 SF314-55G IN-NX.HBJSI.001 Intel® CoreTM i5-8265U processor Windows 10 Home 64-bit 8 GB of single-channel, onboard DDR4 system memory 35.6 cm (14") display with IPS (In-Plane Switching) technology, Full HD 1920 x1080, high-brightness Acer ComfyViewTM LED-backlit TFT LCD NVIDIA® GeForce® MX250 512 GB, PCIe Gen3, 8 Gb/s up to 4 lanes, NVMe SSD Battery life up to 12 hours [link] [comments] |

Posted: 31 May 2020 01:07 AM PDT LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Under $1000 USD (will consider up to $1500 max) Laptop for Solidworks, Gaming, Video Editing. Posted: 31 May 2020 12:51 AM PDT LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE
$1000 USD without tax. I will be purchasing in the United States. I'm pretty sure what I want is within this range. If not I will consider going $1500. Anything above that will not work.
No
I plan to carry my laptop charger with me at all times so battery life is not too important. Performance is the most important aspect. Build quality should be average at least. I already have an iPad air 2 so a 2-in-1 would be redundant but will consider if performance is better without sacrificing capabilities.
I will be carrying this in my backpack to and from school everyday (I go to university). I'm 6 ft 190 lbs so I can carry some weight, but I don't want it to be overwhelming. 10 lbs is acceptable as I do have a lot of other stuff I need to carry.
It has to fit in my backpack. Currently I have a 15.25" by 11" laptop which just barely fits in my backpack. Screen size= 15.5" so anything equal to or below that will be perfect.
All of those yes. I will be running SolidWorks and potentially AutoCAD for engineering classes and internships so I want it to be pretty fast. Plan to run DaVinci Resolve 16 aswell for some YouTube projects. Thinking about Photoshop in the future too. I will be using this for gaming aswell.
I want to be able to stream on Twitch and upload videos of Tekken 7 and Super Smash Bros Ultimate. I really only play fighting games so smooth 60 fps is key so I can land my moves at the intended time. I don't care for amazing graphics that much. I'm content playing at 720p if my game runs butter smooth. In the future i'd even be ok with 480p if the next generation of gaming is that hard on my laptop
Na nothing fancy. I'm gonna use a random mouse. Keyboard just needs to not break hahaha. Ethernet port is required. CD drive is preferred but not required if better performance is achieved.
Like I said I'm willing to spend more than $1000 but would rather not. I want this computer to last me awhile to keep up with new fighting games and be able to stream them. I use Solidworks at my job a lot and the PCs they have are old so I want my laptop to be really fast so I don't waste time at work. Thank you guys in advance for finding one for me.
