| What is the most optimal way to organize photos on my Android device? Posted: 06 May 2020 07:38 PM PDT Hello everybody! I'm going to pose an extremely hard-to-describe issue that I would love to hear experienced input on how to solve. This will probably take many words. Please stick with me! Preface: I switched from iOS (after four years) to Android with the Pixel 2. Used the Pixel 2 for two years, loved it, and have upgraded to the Pixel 4 recently. Here is where problems came to a head. Handling photos on Android seems a bit more complicated than iOS. With iOS, you either take a picture or save an image and it goes to your camera roll. From there, it can be willingly or automatically uploaded to any app or cloud of your desire (at least, from what I remember). Google Photos strikes me as counter intuitive in that regard, because it is first and foremost a cloud photo storage that also happens to be the photo viewer for the device. This is where I run into my problems. For my Pixel 2, it was easy enough because every photo I take was saved locally, as well as any image I downloaded. Uploaded to the cloud was the afterthought. Now that I've upgraded to the Pixel 4, and transferred my photo collection through Google Photos, things have gotten weird. - When posting on social media, I am only offered locally stored photos to choose from. This includes images taken by my phone camera and images I have downloaded. If I want to post a photo from Google Photos (especially in a multi-picture post) I have to find it in Google Photos, tap download, and then it is available. However, lets say this photo is from two years ago. It doesn't appear in my camera roll timeline as being from two years ago, it is now a brand new image at the top of my camera roll, as if I had just taken it. Now I effectively have two versions of the same image, effectively defeating the purpose of the timeline. What is the best way to navigate this issue? - Device folders vs. Albums. In my mind, if I wanted to collect a series of photos, I would put them in an album. Then, say I wanted to make a post or quickly upload photos from that album, I would reach into that album and select those photos. But albums seem to be stored in the cloud? So in order to post an image from an album, I need to collect photos to be put into an album, upload them into an album, and then download them from that album at a later time? This seems like too many steps. What am I missing here? My next thought would then be to use device folders as albums, but I don't even know if you can make device folders and choose what goes into them. When I get a new app that manages photos, why does it have to dump its contents into a new device folder? Why can't it go into the camera roll? IS there a camera roll? Help!! r/AndroidQuestions , what am I missing here? Is my setup wrong? Am I using the wrong apps? What's the solution? After three years on Android, I'm a firm believer in the master race. I do not want my phone to vibrate when I get a new notification. Or ever, really. I'm kinda miffed you only get to choose between mute, vibration, or sound + vibrate. A sound only option would be lovely, however I haven't found it or it doesn't exist. In previous version of Android, you could adjust vibration strength and turn it off altogether (I believe), but now it seems they've removed that feature. [link] [comments]  |

Any time I have media playing whether its Spotify, YouTube, etc and adjust the volume it completely pauses whatever it is playing. It makes no difference what app, website etc.or whether volume is going up or down. This occurs both with Bluetooth on and off. The issues seemingly popped up out of nowhere. No recent app installs, phone restarted several times etc and I can't seem to find the culprit. Any ideas? [link] [comments]  |

This is a weird one: we've got a mess of Web sites that our nonprofit wants to distribute on Android devices to places that lack Internet (been doing it for 20 years with Windows...) Many of these sites have PDF files... which will not, under certain circumstances, open on an Android tablet (Lenovo) or phone (Motorola) running Android 7.1.1 Here's the rub: if we open the file directly from a file browser, it works and gets served up as... http://127.0.0.1:27101/sdcard/0/storage/E823-8032/PNGChip/sample.pdf But we get an "Unable to download file" message if we use the mount point... file:///sdcard/PNGChip/sample.pdf To confirm: all the other file types open fine using either protocol. We're mostly working with FireFox, but we've tested other browsers and gotten the same results, which has me thinking it's an Android "feature." Anybody see this before? I mostly use my phone for streaming and occasional PUBG, so a large display would be nice. I like to take pictures and I definitely value a good camera. Waterproofing (ip67/68) is a must. I'm sick and tired of walking on eggshells when it comes to putting down my phone in a potentially wet area (like the kitchen or bathroom or anywhere outside). I know it cuts the options down a lot, but I also don't want some random Chinese company like Xiaomi or Oppo (I know they're not so random but I don't want to have to deal with the weird Chinese features. A friend of mine had one and it was super annoying). [Also, I don't know if Amazon renewed is reliable or not. | Something bizarre happened. Anyone seen this one before? Posted: 06 May 2020 09:20 PM PDT So I gave an exgf of mine that I'm still good friends with one of my old Android phones, a galaxy note 4. It had worked perfectly for me while it was still in my possession. Before I gave it to her made sure to remove my Google accounts to disable the android reset protections and all the other accounts listed. Pulled my Sim and memory card. Then I reset the phone. Watched it go through the erase procedure and come back to the initial setup screen and handed the phone off. Apparently it's been acting up for her all the time, dropped calls when she switches rooms or walk through doors, and other wierd stuff lol. She says the phone misses me lol. That's not the real problem though. A week ago maybe, I saw her and she asked about something that popped up on the side of the screen that had the home button, back button, and the app switcher button on it. It wasn't a feature I had seen before but found the option for it in the android settings easily enough and disabled it. It was called sidebar buttons or something like that. Just saw her again today and she mentioned she was getting all of these "R" notifications. She said they started popping up the day that I touched the phone and disabled that sidebar thing. She had received a bunch today. I took a look and all of the "R" notifications were from the reddit client I use, Relay Pro. And all of the notifications that were showing up were from my various reddit accounts. They were message replies to comments I had made earlier today. I deleted the app from the phone and then checked her playstore to see if it was something she had downloaded and it wasn't listed under her "my apps and games." I'm really at a loss here. She did say about a month and a half ago she saw the phone "running codes." And then it rebooted and her memory card was erased. I didn't think much of it at the time with all the other wierd shit it's been doing. I assume she saw something like what you would see in terminal. I've got an iPhone that I'm going to hand off to her so I can get the note 4 back into my possession and really dig into it. Just wondering if anyone else has seen a phone spontaneously ressurect old data like that? I'm 100% sure I went through the reset process properly. [link] [comments]  |

| Instagram Gallery Out of Order Posted: 06 May 2020 04:28 PM PDT Hello, To preface this, I'm using an Honor 9 lite on EMUI 9.1.0. As stated in the title, I've been having issues with my gallery. First of all, it was the thumbnails in my gallery being greyed out, as if they weren't loading. I looked up a fix, which outlined a process of deleting the thumbnails folder, and clearing the media storage cache and data, and letting it sort itself out (as shown in this video). (Before doing this, I did make a backup of my DCIM folder onto my computer) As far as the thumbnail issue is concerned, this actually fixed it. However, after my gallery had fully loaded all it's pictures back up, upon going onto the Instagram app, all my photos and videos were out of order. It's not exactly sorted by category/file type, but mostly at random, with some of my gallery intact then another random spew of old photos/videos. Any help please? NOTE: This is exclusionary to in-app galleries, such as Instagram, or Discord. For apps that go to the phone's files/gallery, it's fine. My gallery app is normal. [link] [comments]  |

| Posted: 06 May 2020 12:24 AM PDT Theoretically, as long as I can get the device to recognize it's encrypted, it should still have the decryption key in memory and be able to read it, right? I've done nothing besides take it out of the phone, put it in an external reader, add a few files, and put it back in the phone. I mean, worst comes to worst, I thankfully have a backup from about two-and-a-half weeks ago I can restore, and not lose much (I learned to keep frequent backups the hard way). But if any of you have any ideas on how I could get the system to recognize the card, they'd be appreciated. [link] [comments]  |

The problem is that the data doesn't work at all, even though I checked the bands and they match (currently with Virgin Mobile in Canada). I mean, it says the data is ON, there's no limit, but no data symbol appears above the signal bars ... its just empty, and of course the internet is telling me to either turn on wifi or turn on data. Wtf? I checked my glasswire app and google wasn't downloading or uploading anything today. Wtf is this and how do I stop it? I really needed my phone today.
