Microsoft: Kindly remove web search for windows 10 search. Posted: 29 Apr 2020 01:02 PM PDT Windows 7 search worked great for me. It could find apps. It could find my files! Windows 10 search seems to frequently fail at both. But it always has a web search option in there! Take out the web search microsoft. If I want to search the web, I will use a web browser. I get you're trying to force dominance of your search the way you used the injection of IE into windows in the 90s to promote the dominance of IE, but you have made windows LESS useful as a result. Take web search out of the search function, or give me the option to disable it, and restore whatever search algorithm you used in windows 7, because the new one fails WAY more than that one did. Humbly - Someone who paid 200$ for Windows 10. [link] [comments] |
Is it possible to make applications not un-hide taskbar? Posted: 29 Apr 2020 06:36 PM PDT I like to have my taskbar hide automatically, but when I get a notification on an app, it un-hides my taskbar, and I only want the taskbar to unhide when I put my mouse at the bottom of the screen. Is it possible to edit the Windows Registry to make apps not force the Taskbar to un-hide? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 29 Apr 2020 09:22 PM PDT Does anyone know of a way to get rid of the tiny arrow thing on shortcut icons? I'd prefer not to use a 3rd party program, it seems like too small of a problem to put my computer at risk for, ya know? Or if I'd have to use a 3rd party program does anyone know of any trustworthy ones? [link] [comments] |
Why when Windows is in repair mode or something like that it shows an older window design? Posted: 29 Apr 2020 08:53 AM PDT When I'm in System Repair or something like that the windows have the windows 7 basic layout. Also, when I used to have Windows 7, it showed the windows 95 layout. I don't know if it does this to save graphics mem or just because. [link] [comments] |
Audio on pc completely not working anymore. Posted: 30 Apr 2020 01:31 AM PDT So i went downstairs for a while leaving my pc running (which is a MSI GE63 Raider) to come back to it having just restarted (im assuming for an update). Since that neither my audio jack, my onboard speakers or my onboard microphone has worked. Ive gone into the sounds menu and it appears the options for these have either completely dissapeared or are saying they arent plugged in (which i dont know how thats possible for the onboard ones). There have been two additions of steam streaming microphone and steam streaming speakers which werent there before. Ive also tried the troubleshooting program but thats seems to either have made it worse or nothing at all. Before i ran this program when i plugged in my headphones it asked what device i had plugged in like it always does but after it didnt anymore. The audio does seem to work with a mic connected via USB that can be used as a speaker but i would prefer to use my headphones and my onboard mic. Does anybody know how to get my audio back? Posted: 29 Apr 2020 11:34 PM PDT Using dell xps 17 l702x laptop. Been getting consistent (daily at least) blue screens with error message "system thread exception not handled" caused by "netwsw00.sys" file. Happens when watching a video online (mainly YouTube). Whocrashed says it comes from the intel wireless wifi link adapter. Tried installing new drivers and rolling back to older ones but nothing has helped. Haven't been able to find much helpful info on the net. Don't remember having these issues with windows 8.1. Fresh install of windows didn't fix the issue either. [link] [comments] |
Upgraded to Win 10 from Win7 to find out that OEM key doesn't work to activate Windows Posted: 29 Apr 2020 11:30 PM PDT My Dad's old PC was running genuine Windows 7 Ultimate. Since, Win7 support has ended I decided to upgrade it to Win 10. I made a backup using "windows 7 backup and restore" which created a .vhd file with other small files and I stored that backup in a removable Hard Drive. Using a bootable Win 10 usb, I removed Win 7 completely, installed Windows 10 and chose the option to activate windows later, only to find out that OEM Windows 7 key couldn't be used to activate windows 10. Now, I wish to restore that backup but since the PC is running Win10 I've no idea how to proceed. I don't have a windows 7 cd I onlu have the backup stored in external hard Drive. [link] [comments] |
Windows not accepting mouse inputs at random Posted: 29 Apr 2020 08:42 PM PDT So, I have a Lenovo IdeaPad S540, brand new, and with all the latest drivers and software updates. For some reason, starting from this morning, the computer is acting weird:
If anyone has a fix, it would be appreciated. I suspect it's linked to the usage of my bluetooth mouse, which I have turned off, and have found things to work properly now that it's disconnected. IDK though, since I'm relatively new to Windows 10. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 29 Apr 2020 09:44 PM PDT I can't uninstall Chromium. It randomly got installed and has been super annoying. I've tried to use the control panel to uninstall, but it isn't coming up in the list of programs. What can I do? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 29 Apr 2020 06:59 PM PDT Sometimes when I shut down my PC, it says that an application called "Watch Thread" is preventing me from shutting down. I have searched for it on the internet, and it looks like there are other people like me as well, and it seems like they also don't know what watch thread is. I am worried if this might be a spyware or something, and I would like to know what's the purpose of watch thread, and if it is safe or not. [link] [comments] |
Alt + Space for Windows Search? Posted: 29 Apr 2020 12:27 PM PDT Hey all, I currently have a Surface Pro 7 with 3 finger press on the trackpad for Windows search, which is pretty convenient - but recently downloaded something similar to spotlight from MacOS using Alt + Space but I don't think it's as good as windows search. I'm wondering if there's a way to remap buttons or actions so I could make Alt + Space open up the windows search bar? 🤔 Thanks in advance! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 29 Apr 2020 06:31 PM PDT Something on my laptop is limiting the download speed of my browsers, i tried many methods like disabling peer to peer, reducing qos percent, disabling qos. but there is no change to the download speed at all and both firefox and chrome is downloading at the same speed. i have others on the same network but using wifi downloading at 20mB/s but im downloading at 100kbps [link] [comments] |
How to stop forced restart after remote session disconnect? Posted: 29 Apr 2020 01:03 PM PDT My work machine is a windows 10 pc. About 2 hours or so after my rdp remote connection ends, the computer restarts. As I'm working from home now this is super annoying, as usually I never turn off my work pc. I have not changed any important settings away from their defaults, but it is a work machine so IT could have. I've asked IT and they also have this problem, as well as everyone in my department, except for my boss, who claims it has always worked that way and he didn't change anything. Seemingly no one knows how to fix it. So I've turned to reddit. Any ideas? [link] [comments] |
Can't connect to any online game, can still browse internet Posted: 29 Apr 2020 08:18 PM PDT Woke up this morning and turned on my PC and it's been happening all day. Launched Fortnite, just get disconnected from it a minute later. Same goes for Minecraft, and other games. Not really sure how to fix this problem, I've tried most fixes but they don't work and I still have the same problem. Any help? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 29 Apr 2020 10:18 PM PDT I'm on a Windows 10 and it won't open when I try to turn it on, so I try to do a factory reset. When I try to factory reset it, it says windows needs more space, and to uninstall some things. How would I fix it? [link] [comments] |
One of my machines hasn't updated edge. Should I be concerned? Posted: 29 Apr 2020 10:09 PM PDT One of my windows machines (win 10, celeron) is up to date according to windows update. It's basically my NAS so it doesn't see user input except for my monthly update check (win and installed progs) and occasional installation of new programs to toy with. Because I use it so rarely I'm perfectly happy using edge. same type machines in the past i'd install a different browser because IE is IE but old edge is useable enough. All my machines upgraded themselves except for my higher end one which i upgraded manually just to check it out a while back. I know i can update edge to chromium edge manually and i was planning to do that, but i became concerned that there might be something wrong with the install that's preventing auto upgrade. Is this anything to worry abou? it's consumer win 10 pro so it's not an enterprise or bussiness or anything that gets update exceptions. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 29 Apr 2020 10:08 PM PDT I just noticed everytime my computer boots up it says it's repairing the drive , it only started once I got another monitor I'm not too sure if that has to do something with it I checked the error checker from properties and it says errors were found on the drive , how long would the repair take? Posted: 29 Apr 2020 07:09 AM PDT Looking for an Adobe DC alternative for Windows, and mac if possible. Need to be able to edit, highlight and redact if possible. Tired of paying Adobe so much money for our account just do these things. Any suggestions? [link] [comments] |

Is it safe to delete files in Appdata\Roaming? Posted: 29 Apr 2020 10:30 AM PDT I get that it's not right to delete files in appdata\Roaming of applications because they're usually settings or config files. But there are a lot of files of apps/softwares I've uninstalled and some of them are occupying a lot of space. Is it okay to delete such files if I know they're of uninstalled applications. For ex. there is a 1.5gb of nltk_data which was related to python and I don't even use python anymore and Uninstalled it way back [link] [comments] |
Force Windowed Mode on Microsoft Store App Posted: 29 Apr 2020 11:12 AM PDT Is it possible to force "apps" that are installed via the Microsoft store to open in Windowed mode? I was testing this free app... https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/p/anatomy-3d-atlas/9mvgzcmbpsb1?activetab=pivot:overviewtab ...and I noticed that it will always open full screen. I remembered that back with Windows 7 you could just edit the properties of the shortcut to do this and either change the setting to open "maximized" or just type in the argument after the text in the shortcut target. Apparently for some reason it's like pulling teeth to even create a shortcut for store apps... https://winaero.com/blog/desktop-shortcut-store-app-windows-10/ ... and once you do, you can't edit the target. So I thought that I'd instead just hunt down the actual .exe (which required more teeth pulling) and make my own shortcut, but apparently store apps don't work when you open the .exe directly (or at least this one doesn't), so that's not an option either. Then I thought I'd go back to old reliable DxWnd, but that relies on the .exe working, so it failed as well. So, is there any way to get around Microsoft's new guardrails to force this program or "app" to behave the way that I want? [link] [comments] |

"Windows is activated with a digital license linked to your microsoft account" question Posted: 29 Apr 2020 12:02 PM PDT It says "Windows is activated with a digital license linked to your microsoft account" but can I actually check which account is it linked to? Cause I want to change hardware so I need to make sure. [link] [comments] |
