My sad OnePlus 8 Pro story (UK) Posted: 26 Apr 2020 12:23 PM PDT My existing mobile (Samsung S8+) is dying a death, the touchscreen no longer works in the middle of the panel, which makes performing any core functions deeply frustrating. I was a bit ignorant of what to do next – my contract was up, I had always gone with Samsungs, and was planning on jumping on board with the S20. Some cursory research then led me to the Snapdragon / Exynos discussion, and I thought it was outrageous that Samsung would charge such an expense for a phone proven far inferior to its USA/Korea counterpart. I couldn't, and wouldn't, give Samsung my money for this appalling business practice. I had to research quickly – my existing phone was dying – and I had no idea where to go. Eventually, I heard mention of OnePlus – a company I hadn't heard of – and began to really like what I was hearing. The OnePlus 8 Pro was just about to be released - it was very competitve, I needed a new phone, the timing couldn't be better! I ordered one (green – 256GB model) from Amazon, and the more I read, the more excited I got, it felt like a breath of fresh air. It arrived promptly and it was a beautiful piece of kit, no doubt. Booting it up made a great impression – it felt a lot more focussed than Samsung's work, with a lot less bloat. I'm no expert on this of course, but as an ignorant consumer, it felt good. I really liked that it came with a screen protector already fitted, and a phone case in the box. I did all the updates, I transferred over all my content, and things felt good. But then, they didn't. This kept happening: https://i.imgur.com/TF1W3W1.jpg When I used the camera, the phone would frequently lock up and reset itself. Photos taken in this session would be un-openable: https://i.imgur.com/7JTyPcJ.jpg When photos were taken without crashing, they would have corrupted artifacts, like this: https://i.imgur.com/fiX4bvW.jpg Eventually, distortions began to appear even while accessing basic menu functions. https://i.imgur.com/el8LJoC.jpg I looked for help online. I changed visual settings, lowered framerate and resolution, turned off adaptive brightness, restored factory settings, and yet, the problems were persistent. I was hopeful that this was just a series of bugs that would be fixed in the next firmware update, but began to feel certain that it was faulty. I looked up the repair policy for OnePlus. It would take over a week, too long, I needed a phone before then. I decided to return to Amazon as faulty but then, quite sadly, there was no option to order a replacement – just a refund. They'd ran out of stock, see. So I've had to send it back, and I know need a phone, and really liked this one despite the faulty unit. I don't know if I have the time to wait for more to be in stock, nor do I feel that comfortable ordering another one without assurance that I had a wholly exceptional experience. Can anyone reassure me – has anyone else had any experience like the one I'm showing in my attached screenshots? Faulty screen, faulty camera, etc? Was I just really unlucky? Regardless, I might have to now go back to Samsung even with their inferior (and somewhat insulting) Exynos offer, as I need a phone ASAP. Thanks. [link] [comments]
OnePlus 8 (non-Pro) : feedback Posted: 26 Apr 2020 04:19 AM PDT Hey guys, I want to get a regular OnePlus 8. If you already got one, could you share your thoughts about the phone ? What do you like about it? What are the downsides you noticed? I'm particularly interested in knowing more about:
Thanks in advance for sharing your experiences with the phone! 😊 [link] [comments]
Please report all the bugs and feedback for the OP5/5T Android 10 Open Beta here. Posted: 26 Apr 2020 02:19 PM PDT Hello everyone, as the Open beta for our age old gems, the OP5/5T is out, can we have a single post where all of the bugs are reported so that people looking forward to update can have a quick look and decide accordingly. I know we all have been waiting and are super excited to finally have it. But this would help avoid clutter and differentiate from the main post where the release news was posted. Does the 8 Pro really have 10 bit color? Posted: 26 Apr 2020 01:35 PM PDT I've been comparing my 6T and 8 Pro and I basically see no difference in the amount of banding. Can anyone help me enable it, or tell me what's up? Thanks! [link] [comments]
People with the oneplus8 non-pro version, do you have the same display issues reported on the 8 pro? Posted: 26 Apr 2020 09:46 AM PDT
Thinking of returning my S20+ and getting the OnePlus 8 Posted: 26 Apr 2020 05:43 PM PDT I've never had a OnePlus device. That's why I went with the Galaxy S20+. However in the UK you can only buy the Exynos variant officially. The phone is overheating a lot and the battery is pretty average. So now I have two options. Either import the S20+ Snapdragon version from South Korea (which I'm not too comfortable doing) or get a OnePlus phone. The 8 Pro is honestly perfect but I've been seeing a lot of display issues on the internet. But there aren't any issues with the OnePlus 8 as far as I know. From what I've read, the battery life of the OnePlus 8 is great. Plus the 256GB variant isn't available for the OnePlus 7T Pro where I live. What do you guys advise? Is it easy transitioning from a Samsung to OnePlus and will I be missing anything? [link] [comments]
Any way to estimate battery health? Posted: 26 Apr 2020 04:08 AM PDT I have had my device for over half year and I would like to see my battery wear, is there any way to do it? Or any app for that? Thanks. [link] [comments]
Posted: 26 Apr 2020 01:08 PM PDT Amidst all this hoopla with OnePlus's latest releases, I decided to upgrade from my 3T to a 7 Pro. The difference's, to me, are night and day. That all screen display, and 90hz refresh rate are just amazing. I personally do not mind the pop up camera, as I doubt I'll be using it 300,000 times, lol. I got my 7 Pro from eBay, unlocked, from an open box. It's literally close to mint. Paid $413 total for the phone. All I had to buy separately was the Warp brick from OnePlus, and a screen protector and case. I've read some bad experience's with the 7 Pro amongst some user's on this subreddit, but luckily, everything has been A1. [link] [comments]
PSA: The 1+8 pro does not support quickcharge standards. It's warp charge or nothing Posted: 26 Apr 2020 06:07 AM PDT Just had to learn that all my current chargers are useless now, that's something I'd never thought of when I ordered it so maybe it's useful for someone. Edit: title is a little bit misleading, of course you can charge it with all your chargers. Warp charge (and PD) are the only fast charging possibilities it supports, so no quickcharge 3.0 for example [link] [comments]

Posted: 26 Apr 2020 02:39 PM PDT I am coming from a Essential Phone (Ph-1) and I am confused whether to get the 7t or the 7 pro. I have a few questions: 1. Is the camera better than what I currently have? 2. How is battery life, the 7 pro has a higher resolution and bigger screen so I don't know if that makes a difference. 3. Is the performance a noticeable change between the two? 4. Which has the better camera out of the two? Thank You! [link] [comments]
Posted: 26 Apr 2020 11:41 AM PDT Hey Oneplus family. I'm currently awaiting delivery of my new 7T and I was wondering if there is any advice /tips I can use to help better my experience. I left samsung after the s7 because of screen burn in and went to sony for their 4k screen(xz2 premium, amazing screen.. Horrible charging/charging port) and now that the xz2 is falling apart I wanted a device with great charging and battery life. Was considering the ROG2 but didn't like the no water protection at all and Oneplus seemed to have a waterproofness to them. So reviews told me oneplus came out on top. So my questions are: is there any approach I can take to prolong my screens life(dark mode?, icon add ons) to prevent screen burn in? Does switching the 90hz back down to 60hz make a noticeable difference in battery life? Are there any cam aps that are worth downloading? Future purchase questions : Which screen isn't prone to screen burn in? Is it a screen design issue or is this something all phones are plagued with over time? Thank you in advance and I hope every one is staying safe during our forced vacation. I would also like to apologize if I broke any rules or didn't follow the flare correctly. [link] [comments]
Is my 8 Pro screen f** or not? Posted: 26 Apr 2020 04:50 PM PDT Comparing my brand new One Plus 8 Pro with my old Galaxy S9 there is a clear difference in colors. Here a few pics comparing it to my S9: http://imgur.com/a/Sdfxzk4 And here is a video of the same screen at different brightness: http://imgur.com/a/TTlS6zs What do you guys think? Keep it? Send it back and get a new one? Send back and get something else? Edit: this doesn't look like on my S9 at all http://imgur.com/a/75uYVli Edit 2: weird black bar going from camera cutout to the battery icon (I think, can't really tell) http://imgur.com/a/sYHOcdF [link] [comments]
Oneplus 3 crisis! Please help Posted: 26 Apr 2020 09:02 AM PDT I use my OnePlus 3 as a "work phone" and two weeks ago I left it in a drawer. A few days later, the battery was clearly drained an the phone turned off. I plugged it in and it was charging (yet turned off). When I saw that the LED indicator turned green, I took it off of the charger over night. In the morning, o tried to turn it on using the volume button down and plugging it in technique (since my power button is not working) but it didn't turn on. When I put the charger back in it doesn't seem to charge (no LED indicator turns on). I tried all the combinations I know with no luck ... What can I do? I really need to retrieve all my work stuff from it especially the Whatsapp messages which I'm not sure were backed up ... Would really appreciate any help! Thanks a lot! [link] [comments]
Is it worth paying £100 for the extra memory and GBs on the OnePlus 8? Posted: 26 Apr 2020 03:34 PM PDT I currently have the OnePlus 3T so it's going to feel like a huge upgrade no matter what, but I can't figure out if it will be worth the additional £££ required. [link] [comments]
Plug 7T into monitor with DVI? Posted: 26 Apr 2020 01:41 PM PDT Hi, my new 7T is by far the most powerful device I own -- like my daily work laptop is a 5-year-old HP Stream with 2GB RAM (on Linux). I'm wondering if it's possible to plug the 7T into an external monitor without HDMI? It only has DVI and VGA inputs. There are USB-C to DVI adapters but I haven't seen discussion of people trying this with a phone, and apparently they don't work with some DVI outputs. Thanks! [link] [comments]
Is it worth replacing my OP3T battery? Posted: 26 Apr 2020 01:01 PM PDT Its been 3.5 years since I bought my op3t. At this point the battery drain is too much that its almost unusable. But performance wise it's still the same. It fulfills every requirement of mine. So I don't want to buy another phone. But I don't have any past experience with battery replacement. Will I get the same usage as my phone was in the beginning? Or is it waste of money at this point? Considering original battery replacement is ₹1.5 k = ~20usd [link] [comments]
What's the best way to protect the OnePlus 8 pro from drops? Posted: 26 Apr 2020 04:16 AM PDT I love my 8 pro so far after coming from a Mi A1 (which I had for years). I'm a little worried about dropping the device. I've got the pro bumper carbon case however I'm concerned the phone would not survive a drop with this thing fitted. There's not much available in the UK yet. Which types of cases or brands offer the best protection? I'm particularly interested in a case that is raised around the sides as my current case leaves this area exposed. Should I also opt for tempered glass once they're more available? Thanks [link] [comments]
What has a better camera... 7 Pro or Samsung Note 9? Posted: 26 Apr 2020 03:49 PM PDT Looking to upgrade and wondering if the 7 Pro's camera is on par or better... [link] [comments]
I'm preparing to buy a new phone from OP and im torn between 8 pro and 7tpro Posted: 26 Apr 2020 03:45 PM PDT I don't really care about wireless charging and one thing I'm concerned is camera quality. I wonder if someone switched from 7 to 8 pro and can tell me about the experience. That would be my first phone with high refresh rate so I don't think I care about the 90 to 120 difference. So I'm basically leaning towards 7t pro anyone can argue for 8 pro? [link] [comments]
Can I flash OP6T to 10.3.3 from Beta 6? Posted: 26 Apr 2020 03:35 PM PDT Can I directly flash from Open Beta 6 to 10.3.3 without losing data? [link] [comments]
Posted: 26 Apr 2020 09:25 AM PDT Do any of you have any problems with the vibrations on the OP8 Pro? I set it to strong vibration intensity in the settings and yet I can barely hear or feel any vibration coming from either messages nor incoming calls.. I put the phone down on my mousepad and on my wooden desk but there is barely a difference, while my old Samsung Galaxy S8 nearly vibrated itself off the desk any time someone texted me. So, does anyone share this problem with me? Is there maybe a workaround or a solution you guys can think of? [link] [comments]
I'm getting my 8 Pro tomorrow : let's bet. Posted: 26 Apr 2020 02:49 PM PDT Hey guys. Tomorrow I'll finally receive my popup box with, in it, the OnePlus 8 Pro. Many people have complained about their screens, so I thought it'd be funny to bet if I'll have a faulty screen or not. Tell me if you think I'll get one or not, and I'll tell you what happened tomorrow ! [link] [comments] |
