'Always on Display' coming to OnePlus, beta testing expected in Aug/Sep Posted: 30 Apr 2020 06:56 AM PDT OnePlus just responded to the various community ideas posted to their forum, addressing which will be adopted and which won't. The top one on the yes list is AOD.

Totally unacceptable from OnePlus. The screens on OP 8 pro are second grade. Posted: 29 Apr 2020 08:41 PM PDT You might argue that these are inherent display flaws in OLED and all that. But you don't see that happening in other phones. Especially burn in. Burn in is not supposed to happen after 1 week. These screens are really 2nd grade and OP won't do jack shit except apply band aid software patch. This is totally unacceptable given that this is now a flagship phone at a flagship price. We should expect a flagship level quality. No excuses. These are hardware flaws that OP will try to "mitigate" with software patches. So far the noticed issues have been:
I agree some of them can almost completely be fixed with software patches but not others. Really makes you wonder about the build quality of the "flagship" phone. [link] [comments]
Manufacturing date for perfect OnePlus 8 Pro displays Posted: 30 Apr 2020 12:35 PM PDT As the title suggests, if you're screen isn't discoloring or having any retention issues, when was your device manufactured? After I've checked, the screen problems are only in between 1st and 13th since the ones before and after haven't. This may lead to a shortlist of a 'Bad Batch' of displays. EDIT: If you're unsure about the test, check out the following Reddit post and follow the steps to see if there are any issues: https://www.reddit.com/r/oneplus/comments/g62q6x/oneplus_8_pro_owners_display_issues_poll/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share [link] [comments]
Posted: 30 Apr 2020 07:46 AM PDT It's quite interesting that OnePlus in Canada are trying to charge over $1550CAD($1100USD) for the 8 pro. As a student, Samsung is able to offer cheaper pricing for the s20 ultra at $1479 or the regular price comparable s20+ can be had for $1263. Even with the OnePlus 5% student discount it will only match the ultras pricing. I am very disappointed in OnePlus as they cut off what made OnePlus special, a bang for the buck. The spec differences on paper are close and in my opinion to be splitting hairs as I don't benefit from the worlds most accurate screen on a 6 to 7 inch display. It's cool to have a accurate screen but at such a small size even just covering the sRGB gamut is sufficient. Additionally at this pricing, Samsungs support infrastructure is so much more diverse in Canada compared to OnePlus. I can walk to most retail outlets or service centres and can get something fixed quickly compared to OnePlus being online only. OnePlus maybe able to "one up" Samsung spec wise, but has lost my interest with this disappointing release. Truly the case of living long enough to become the enemy you once fought against. Is burn in just a lottery on the OnePlus 8? Posted: 30 Apr 2020 06:47 AM PDT Hi guys, I've had the OnePlus 8 pro for a week now and have used it pretty extensively. I've just checked for burn in and can't see anything at all. Is this thing a lottery? If it's coming prematurely I want it to present itself now whilst I'm still in the return window. Thanks [link] [comments]
Best OnePlus for someone who prefers smaller/more compact phones? Posted: 30 Apr 2020 04:22 PM PDT Title says it all. Seems like anything they release lately is 6.5" or taller. I'd say 6.1" or 6.2" is the upper end of what I'd like. [link] [comments]
Posted: 30 Apr 2020 03:56 PM PDT Didn't these phones normally come with a clear case in the box? I just unboxed my phone and was surprised to not see one in there. [link] [comments]
Posted: 30 Apr 2020 01:27 PM PDT Whatever I do with my 8 Pro, the color is always banding everywhere. It looks like a 16m color display, not a 1b color display. Anyone know why this is, and how it can be fixed? [link] [comments]
OnePlus 8 Pro screen issues - Video and photo examples Posted: 30 Apr 2020 04:31 AM PDT There's been a lot of talk about the screen issues on the new phone, but I haven't seen all that many examples, so I thought I'd share some here. Tests mostly done in pitch black room using the 5% grey rtings image: https://www.rtings.com/images/test-materials/2016/5-percent.png Note: Photos captured look twice as bad as it does to the naked eye, but there's only so much you can do given the test conditions. Note 2: Any comparisons are made against a Note 10. ----------------------------------------

My OP7Pro auto-includes 8.8.8.8 as secondary DNS server on WiFi, is this normal? Posted: 30 Apr 2020 01:17 PM PDT So I'm troubleshooting misc DNS troubles in my home/networks, and are doing step by step tests etc.. which is not so important for this post. While I was looking at my OP7Pro wifi settings I see that it lists my router's IP and also 8.8.8.8. I've also got a Huawei MediaPad M5 tablet and a laptop on the same wifi and they don't get the Google Public DNS IP. Checking the configuration on the router, it does not send a secondary dns server to the clients (and it shouldn't... just the router should handle/relay DNS) So is this something default in OnePlus (7 Pro) or is it some strange setting I've set one time I can't remember or locate? I can set static network config on the OP7Pro WiFi with one DNS server, but now I'm irritated about the auto-add of 8.8.8.8 [link] [comments]
Posted: 30 Apr 2020 06:02 PM PDT I'm planning on moving to the 7 Pro phone from an iPhone. I wondered if any of you have recently made the leap and what's it like using Oxygen os? I've never had an Android phone before, I've just simply jailbreaked my past iPhones but now want a change. I know the 8 is an improvement but I want a full screen experience and I'm bothered about the front facing camera. Can you get some sort of guided access mode on this device? Finally upgraded to oneplus again Posted: 30 Apr 2020 05:56 PM PDT Like the title says, finally upgrading to the oneplus 8 pro from my iPhone XS as I wasn't enjoying my experience with IOS and preferred my oneplus 7 Pro. I'm reading up on the screen issues of the 8 and are they noticeable during normal use besides the burn in? [link] [comments]
Stadia is now supported natively on the 8 and 8 Pro, my question is why not the 7 Pro or 7t/7tPro. Posted: 30 Apr 2020 11:58 AM PDT So here is a link to the official supported devices for Stadia and the OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro have now been added. https://support.google.com/stadia/answer/9578631?hl=en While this is an awesome step for OnePlus users I am wondering why the 7 Pro and the 7t & 7t Pro have also not been added considering the closeness of specs and the better hardware compared to a lot of the other supported devices. Also congrats to the 8 and 8 Pro users, now is a good time to try Stadia as you get the first 2 months of Stadia Pro for free. [link] [comments]
Posted: 30 Apr 2020 08:32 AM PDT Love it or hate it, the colour filter is a part of the OnePlus 8 Pro package. I saw a couple of posts wondering what on earth it could be used for. While I can't answer what it could be used for practically, I tested it out around my house. Pics here. I discovered that it's sensitive to near-infrared light by flashing a remote control towards it. (I read a thing recently that said a Raspberry Pi camera that is sensitive to infrared light is good for photographing foliage, but I don't know why. That camera could also sense visible light, I wonder if a 1+ update will allow to take a picture with the normal camera and the colour filter simultaneously to composite images for more detail?) I also found that the filter can be used to see through some black tinted glass or plastics. It reminds me a lot of They Live. I tested the effect with the hobs on my cooker, then I tried turning one of the hobs on too. I could see the heating element light up on the colour filter before I was able to see it by eye. After dark I was able to use the colour filter and a remote control for night vision. I'm sure infrared cameras have been nerfed in the past because they were able to see through certain clothes too, but I can't imagine anyone would want to do that. I hope this has been illuminating. Has anyone else found anything interesting? [link] [comments]
Posted: 30 Apr 2020 05:46 PM PDT In the US carriers aren't selling the 8 pro which is a bummer for me. Which you know isn't too big of a deal because the differences between 8 pros and 8 are the wireless charging, 10-bit panel, 120hz, and better camera performance. T mobile version comes with an IP68 rating which is a plus I guess. I would have preferred the 8 pro but I can settle with the 8. Not the worst trade-offs in the world. Then I learn My favorite color ( Glacial Green ) isn't available in carriers, I'm stuck with only fingerprint magnets. Again very disappointing really loved the matte finishing on the new models but you know it can't get much worse than that - WRONG, I then finally learn that OP 8 doesn't come with a case, a dongle ( important to me ), and is not pre-installed with a screen protector ( T-Mobile versions). Well Damn. That's just a stack of disappointments. Never Settle? I guess I'm settling for less. [link] [comments]
Factory reset - no SIM card detected, OnePlus 7 Pro Posted: 30 Apr 2020 03:13 PM PDT Hello everyone, I have a OP7 Pro, and I recently wiped it and re-flashed the stock T-mobile ROM on it to reset it due to an error with TWRP recovery. Since then, my SIM card slot simply does not detect that I have a SIM card there. It worked literally until I decided to wipe to factory, and now it won't detect that there is a SIM card in the slot - no matter what. This is clearly a software problem. Can anyone help? Steps I've taken: - Rebooted three times - Rebooted in safe mode - Wiped the cache - Wiped all Android network settings - Taken out my SIM card, cleaned it, and replaced it (multiple times) I'm about ready to smash this thing. Any help is appreciated. EDIT - half-solution: I think the issue was that, when I bricked my phone with TWRP while on my international, rooted, stock OnePlus ROM, I didn't have a chance to wipe two protected partitions that are used for storing IMEI and SIM card information - they may be modemst1 and modemst2, according to this guide. Unfortunately, I had no way of doing so, given that flashing with MSM to a T-mobile stock ROM (my original ROM) re-locked my bootloader. This was a problem, as you can't use a 'fastboot oem unlock' command on adb while in the T-mobile ROM to unlock the bootloader for a) the device permissions required to install TWRP for wiping those partitions, or to b) wipe the aforementioned modemst1 and modemst2 partitions using adb. For T-mobile ROMs, you need a token from T-mobile, which takes weeks to get in some sort of email from T-mobile (that link was for the 7T Pro, but similar stuff applies to the 7 Pro). Hope this helps someone else. Bottom line, before wiping your unlocked bootloader ROM or unbricking your bootloader-unlocked phone to go back to complete and total bone-stock ROM, consider using the guide for modemst1 and modemst2-clearing. This will, hopefully, prevent your SIM card slot from being completely unable to recognize any card presence, once you flash to that stock ROM. I ended up flashing back to the international ROM via MSM, and my SIM card worked. Also, I've decided to never root a phone again. I am so sick of this nonsense. All I got for it was a few months of the ability to record every phone call (via neat rooted-phone Magisk modules app) I have with customer support people who try to give me the run-around, haha. Android 10 6T "Hide the notch area" moving status bar below notch. Posted: 30 Apr 2020 01:14 PM PDT Okay so maybe I'm hallucinating here but before the Android 10 update when I hid the notch area the status bar would remain in line with the notch. That was neat, instead of wasting that screen real estate, the time, battery and notification icons would show up at the top and the notch wouldn't cut into the rest on my content. On Android 10 however, enabling the feature moves the status bar below the notch using up about a centimeter of screen real estate! Is there a way I can have the old setting back? I tried taking screenshots to illustrate but that doesn't work of course... [link] [comments]
I won a OnePlus 8 off Twitter but haven’t heard back from them Posted: 30 Apr 2020 08:42 AM PDT Hello all. Forgive me if this isn't really the place to ask. Yesterday, OnePlus was doing a giveaway on Twitter (the handle @OnePlus_USA, specifically). I entered on a whim and won and received a DM from them stating I had one. The account from the DM was the same doing the giveaway, so at least I know it came from them. I gave them the required info, but they never responded just to confirm they received. I'm not worried about it being a scam, but I'm just concerned I guess. Now I get it, it's only been a day. However, I've never won a contest like this; like ever. I guess I just wanted to see if anyone has won something like, or even from OnePlus in the past, that might be able to shine some light on it. I can provide screenshots of their initial DM as well as the tweets about the giveaway if anyone needs, in case you're concerned it's spam or anything. Thanks! [link] [comments]
People who are getting OP8 Pro's now! Are displays good? Posted: 30 Apr 2020 04:49 PM PDT I got mine on the second popup event. My display has the image retention/green tint issues. DC dimming helps the green tint but it moves the issue from my phone's left side to the right side due to uneven grays. I wanna send my phone back but I want to wait for the clean displays [link] [comments]
Verizon now activating 8 & 8 Pro Posted: 30 Apr 2020 02:11 PM PDT Looking over a the OnePlus Forums and the XDA Forums, it looks like people are having success getting the phone activated and CDMA less turned on. I gave chat support a try 20 minutes ago, and the rep asked for my phone's make and model (8 Pro), IMEI, and my SIM's ICCID. Requested I turn my phone off and on with a minute in between. Turned it back on, visual voice mail flew on and they sent a test SMS to confirm texting was working, Did not even have to mention CDMA-Less. Seems like Verizon is up to speed with what they should be doing now. Oh, and it may be worth mentioning, I couldn't use the BYOD link on the account page, it kept rejecting my IMEI as not compatible. But the rep was able to add it. Might now be worth getting in touch with one on chat or by calling [link] [comments]
I spoke with someone from OnePlus and got infos Posted: 30 Apr 2020 09:22 AM PDT My OnePlus 8 Pro has very subtle green/red tint issues, when I'm in a completely dark room, at 20% brightness, on grey backgrounds only. After talking with someone from the support, she told me she's gonna ask someone with higher responsabilities. So I got in touch with a man and could ask him some questions. First : when will the 10.5.5 OTA be released for everyone ? Answer : we do not know. But we do not recommend updating via the Play Store app. Second : will the tint issues be fixed via software, can you CONFIRM it'll be a fix and NOT a workaround ? Answer : the issues will SURELY be fixed. He then asked for pictures. My issues are far less impressive than what I saw here on the sub. And yet, he told me to ... Ask for a replacement unit. So everything's a bit weird right now. We're being told that the issues will be fixed via software, but there's 0 indication as to when the software update will be released. Most people won't have 10.5.5 for what I assume will be weeks. Then what about 10.5.6 ? So in the end I don't know what to think. I don't really mind the tint issues as I really have to go look for it, but if I'm being told to ask for replacement just for that I'm starting to think that the screen itself is actually flawed. We really need more clarity as to what we should do. [link] [comments]
Should I bother with waiting for the OP 8 Pro? Posted: 30 Apr 2020 12:25 PM PDT My current daily driver is a Pixel 3 XL. I had been excited about the OP8 Pro for some time. Up until the limited release. That felt like poor customer service so I bought an S20+ but before the period was up I returned it. I don't like stock Samsung phones (I don't know if One Ui is the issue, but I don't like some of the bloatware (?) I guess), but I am wanting a new phone, but OP's current display issues and handling of the situation have me concerned. What do you all think? [link] [comments]
