Ringtones Mi A2 after update to Android 10 Posted: 01 Feb 2020 11:01 AM PST Ever since updating my Xiaomi Mi A2 to Android 10, I haven't been able to set my ringtone and other app notification sounds. When I try to get my favorite ringtone it somehow resets to a default system ringtone. And sometimes it even makes a new copy of the ringtone I wanted to set. So sometimes I see multiple copies of a ringtone I have chosen. Doesn't matter how I do it, through settings > sounds or through a music player. Other app notifications as well, I can only get default system notification tones. What to do now, any ideas? [link] [comments] |

LS770 Won't pass the Carrier logo screen Posted: 01 Feb 2020 02:45 PM PST LG-LS770 Android 6, not Rooted, stock ROM from when I bought it, no changes to that. Yes I know, it might be stuck in a bootloop but let me explain a bit. I found my old LS770 and I decided to repurpose it to be able to cast movies from it to my smart TV since my TV only has roku. The first time I turned it on in months it took a bit to turn on, about 5 minutes, but it turned on and everything seemed to work. I went to settings then did a factory reset, my phone rebooted and got stuck on the "Virgin Mobile" screen. I left it like that for about an hour while I went out and when I came back, there was no change So I decided to go to the recovery mode screen to factory reset and clear cache, mount /system and whatever, and rebooted again. The phone got stuck on the Virgin Mobile screen again. I thought it was a good idea to download the stock ROM to see if that would change anything. Finding the stock ROM and all the files online was such a Hassle, I couldn't find everything, couldn't even find the dll for LG Flash or whatever for the phone, so I used the Lg g3 dll to see if I could do it. I started to mess around with the software on my computer, phone was connected and on download mode, I clicked install but it gave me an error, like the last ten times I tried but I checked my phone and it passed the screen for some reason, I'm not even sure how It did the regular installing Android from the first bootup, optimized apps, and worked like normal, I installed everything I needed to be able to cast movies and it worked flawlessly, mind you I haven't turned off the phone since then. Today I realized the phone died, so I charged it, and turned it on, but it got stuck on the Virgin Mobile logo again, and I've left it on my table to turn on for the last few hours to nothing changing. Can someone tell me what's going on? Thanks [link] [comments] |

What is a decent brand of wired USB-C headphones? Posted: 01 Feb 2020 08:37 AM PST I'm upgrading to a phone without a headphone jack and would rather not use Bluetooth or any airpod-like buds. I saw the Google USB-C headphones and they look decent, but $30 is a bit much. Are they worth it or is there another pair that's better or cheaper? [link] [comments] |
How do i access my facebook messenger group chats if i deleted them from my side? Posted: 01 Feb 2020 08:16 PM PST I'm the admin in a few facebook messenger group chats. Posted: 01 Feb 2020 01:34 PM PST Hi, I have a Huawei P9 Lite Smart lying around and I never went deep on ROM installations, rooting and that sort of stuff. So I want to give it a try since the Huawei ROM is full of bloatware and it is very laggy. I want a clean and light installation so hopefully this phone can have a little bit of life. Specs are pretty basic: Snapdragon 435 and 2GB of RAM with 16GB of storage currently running Android 6.0 Suggestions? Thanks in advance. [link] [comments] |

Where do android games store our progress? Posted: 01 Feb 2020 05:11 PM PST I want to start over 2 games but I can't. I make sure they are not linked to Google play games -> I delete the cache and clear the data -> I try to delete any folder with the name of the game using a file manager -> I uninstall the game -> restart my phone -> install again And I have my progress saved, nothing has changed. I don't understand why, those games don't even have storage permissions. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 01 Feb 2020 12:58 PM PST I've been having issue with my hotspot. It's a ZTE Axon M unlocked ATT. It says there is a temporary network issue "there's not". I have full network coverage with MetroPCS. I am on the latest patch with this phone. I have plans to also update to 9.0 Chinese version. Anyways. Anyone know what's causing this? Everything else works properly. NFC WIFI Bluetooth. Just my hotspot. [link] [comments] |
Got a new phone and the volume controls are much worse now, any way to change this? Posted: 01 Feb 2020 04:30 PM PST With my old phone when I hit the volume button it was like this where it had a little drop down and I could change the alarm, phone, and media volumes all without leaving whatever I was doing. Now my new phone has this where if I want to change the other volumes I have to click the gear, wait for it to load, and then be in this whole new page to adjust the others? and when I do adjust them it freaking plays a noise at whatever volume I pick? what the hell? this is so annoying and terrible, I hate it so much that it makes me regret even getting a new phone. (That might be a little dramatic but you get my point. I'm kind of sensitive to noise and I'm very frustrated by this.) Is there any way to fix this? or is there something I'm not understanding about the way the new phone works and there IS some easy, not completely stupid way to do this? I don't know for sure if this actually is android's fault or my device's fault but any advice would be very welcome. [link] [comments] |
What activity tracking app with friend leaderboard works on most Android phones? Posted: 01 Feb 2020 12:43 PM PST What activity tracking app with friend leaderboard works on most/all Android phones without needing a separate tracker using just the phone's hardware as the tracking device? (i.e. no fitbit/samsung/apple watch...just the phone counting steps, but it has a leaderboard where you can add friends to compete. [link] [comments] |
Replacement oleophobic coating for phone? Posted: 01 Feb 2020 03:14 AM PST I'm using Crystal Armor Fusso to replace the oleophobic coating on my phone but it wears out after a while and the bottle is really small... so it's expensive. Samsung note 5 black screen help Posted: 01 Feb 2020 12:15 PM PST I have a Samsung Galaxy Note 5 that was dropped and has had a black screen ever since. Though I call it black, it is really just very very very very VERY dark. When it is flat then I charge it up, I can just about make out the battery symbol in the dead centre of the screen, and a number or two can be guessed, and when I hold down the power button, then I press the home key, the menu and back buttons flash up and under very dark conditions I can make out a strange texture on the right of my screen, which I assume to be what is normally a bright section of my wallpaper. I have made a little progress so far. I have managed to find the phone on Google Play on my computer, and I found an app or two that let me cast the screen of my phone to my pc... Theoretically... As for 'Connect' which comes installed on Win10, I can't cast my phone, as I need to see the screen to do something in the notification bar. I found another app online, called Vysor, I did a little bit of research and it seems safe to use, but it won't find my phone, due to Android USB Debugging being off..... which I also need my screen for... I found a youtube video ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tAChemeSbgo ) of a person who recommends linking my phone to my PC, take a screenshot, guess where to tap and use my stylus to tap there, because tapping normally doesn't work. In theory, this is a fantastic idea... But when I connect my phone, no files appear... Can anyone help me, or give me ANY ideas or advice? Thank you so much in advance. [link] [comments] |

Please help me with some adware Posted: 01 Feb 2020 03:15 PM PST I'm using a Samsung Galaxy J5 Pro. For a couple of days I've had intermittent ads pop up outside of my normal applications. At least once it popped up the moment I unlocked the screen, and I don't believe I had any apps with ads running at the time. Today I had no apps open (except three anti-viruses running silently in the notification area, more on that later). I pressed on the default SMS app "Messages" and a full screen ad popped up. When I opened up the list of running apps using the hardware button, I think there was something there but it quickly vanished without me telling it to close, and the ad was gone from the screen too. Investigation Searching online, I found a few main bits of advice:
At the time of infection I already had AVG AntiVirus running at all times for several months. Afterwards I installed Malwarebytes and Kaspersky Internet Security. All three applications were told to do an update and full scan and found nothing. They were all running last time the ad popped up. Note that Play Protect didn't say anything either.
2.1. Recently installed apps. The only app I had installed in the previous couple of days was a djvu/pdf reader called ReadEra by READRRA LLC. It has no permissions and does not have advanced permission to Appear on top. It's a fully featured application that does its job really well. It seems like a lot of hard work to make something like that and risk it all for the occasional unprofitable ad. They have a premium version to explain how they try to make money. They claim to not like full screen or intrusive ads, and could serve ads in their app if they wanted but chose not to. I just don't see what psychology would make someone saddle this with adware.
Last time an ad popped up I went and looked, and "moments ago" it said I had used Volume Control by "soft developer". It has no permissions and does not have advanced permission to Appear on top. I have used this for years without adware pop-ups before. It doesn't show me ads when I open it, though it could if it wanted. The only suspicious thing is a sudden plethora of negative reviews in the last couple of months saying that it used to be good but now pops up ads every time you open it. But... it doesn't for me, though I don't open it very often at all. I am just speculating, not accusing: I could see someone needing to monetize their app, adding ads, caving to negative feedback losing them users, and replacing the obvious ads with adware. The psychology makes sense. Request for advice What on earth should I do with this information? Q1a. It's it enough on Android to uninstall the responsible app? If my old Windows computer got something like this I'd consider the whole system compromised, back up my data and reformat the entire OS hard drive. All the advice I see online for Android is just to find and uninstall the app. Is that really enough? Can I really be sure it hasn't laid eggs somewhere that someone could use to steal my data or push ransomware? My question boils down to whether the adware is just naughty behaviour of the app rather than separate code that can cause other problems. Q1b. If I do a factory reset on my Samsung Galaxy J5 Pro, will I be able to re-update to the latest patch, even though the patch it will be running is several versions out of date? Q2. Are the ways I used to find the suspicious app actually reliable? Because this is so intermittent, I will not be confident for weeks that it has actually stopped popping up ads. And if ads don't stop, I will won't know whether it was responsible. I'd like reassurance that I'm not on a wild goose chase. Q3. Are antiviruses actually effective on Android? It seems odd that all the antiviruses come up negative. If the answer to Q1a is that it's not actually an infection, just a misbehaving app, that would explain it. Thanks in advance for any help. If I've asked the wrong questions, please let me know how you think I should approach this. [link] [comments] |
