I’m not getting any Windows system sounds. Windows Vista Posted: 02 Feb 2020 06:06 PM PST For reference I am using a Dell Optiplex 755 with Windows Vista Home Premium. So I am not getting any Windows System sounds out of the OS. Music and sounds from websites will still play. I updated the driver and that didn't work. I also booted into Windows 7 and XP which was also installed on the computer. They played their system sounds just fine without error. Could this be a driver issue? Or Windows being odd? Win 10 IoT licensing without customer interaction Posted: 02 Feb 2020 09:37 AM PST I need specific information regarding licensing Win 10 IoT product. Regarding the licensing process, the product needs to be resold by us to our customers, and specifically whether it is possible for us to license the product so that our customers do not need to do anything about licensing. So our product will go as an appliance with Win 10 IoT as a OS. How I got the understanding, this is handled by Microsoft reseller, but I didn't find info this specific on reseller sites. It would be helpful for me if anyone can point me to the right document where I can obtain needed information. [link] [comments] |

I need to delete a partition with an old Windows 10 install, what's the safest way to do it? Posted: 02 Feb 2020 07:05 PM PST A bit of backstory, several months ago my computer crashed so badly that something in my Windows 10 install got corrupted. It was unable to boot properly and every solution I tried failed to work. I eventually just removed my SSD, connected it to a different computer, and used a partition manager to create a new partition before installing a fresh Windows on it. Now that I'm content that everything is working properly again and I have everything I need pulled from the old install, I want to delete this old partition, but I want to make sure I don't screw anything up. When I boot the PC up, Windows still asks me whether I want to boot using the new or corrupted install, so it's still being detected even though it's corrupted. Is there anything special I need to do to avoid negatively affecting my good install, or can I just delete this partition and be done with it? [link] [comments] |
Taskbar icons and search stop working properly after a while Posted: 02 Feb 2020 03:13 PM PST I have this problem where clicking on the audio settings icon or the Wifi/network icon doesn't do anything. Occasionally, search will also fail to work. The problems don't necessarily exist concurrently. I tend to change my audio settings often to change output device so this is pretty annoying. Sometimes when this problem happens, I'll do Win+G to open the game settings and change the output device via that. However, sometimes even that doesn't work. So then I'll try searching for Sound settings and then sometimes the search doesn't work... It seems to happen after Windows 10 has been booted for a while. I suspect it could be after the display goes to sleep, but I haven't confirmed this. [link] [comments] |
Windows will not show the correct Lockscreen image on startup Posted: 02 Feb 2020 02:26 PM PST I recently tried "bleachbit" because of the controversy around avast and there connection to Ccleaner. It cleaned up alot of files. I used windows Disk cleaner before using it and it was still able to get rid of 2 gigs of files past what windows built in program was able to get rid of. The downside is now when I start my system it shows the default image on the lockscreen. Not the image I have set to a lock screen and sometimes it just shows a blue background. No image at all. Other than that the PC seems to be running fine. No malfunctions. No errors. Once I log in and then sign out again; then, it shows my correct lock screen image. I have checked every setting I can think of. I already posted this in tech support and I did not get much response. and I have changed my lockscreen image to about 4 different image hoping one of them triggers something in the system. I was hoping someone that really knows windows can tell me what file might have been deleted or what setting I need to change back. I have already done a /sfc /scannow and /scanhealth. Both came back fine. No errors in computer manager. It is just an annoyance. I figure if I can find the folder or file that it casing the problem I can just tell bleachbit not to touch those files. Manually cleaning my drive is annoying. I have the process written down. But, annoying. [link] [comments] |
WMIProviderHost High CPU usage Posted: 02 Feb 2020 04:15 PM PST Hello, I have recently built my first PC. After a week of usage I decided to start monitoring my PC. I then noticed that at idle my PC has 9-12% CPU and 18-20% memory usage. Ram idle usage is 6-8gb. Opening the "Event Viewer" I notice that there are A LOT of errors under WMI-Activity/Operational with an event ID of 8585 with various Process IDs. Tracking the Process IDs in Task Manager is impossible as their IDs are not listed. I've ran sfc scannow, dism restorehealth, did a clean boot and the relatively high usage remained each time. I'm running an AMD Ryzen 5 3600x, GSkill Ripjaws V 32gb @ 3600 c16 and a Gigabyte 5700 XT Gaming OC. Everything is running on it's stock profile except the ram which is running on XMP profile for 3600hz. Oh, and I'm on Windows 10 pro. Anyone have a clue on how to fix these errors or how to bring my CPU usage down? I don't notice it being an issue---but knowing my PC is running at an average of 10% IDLING bothers me. Thanks in advanced! [link] [comments] |

E-mail listing of a local directory Posted: 02 Feb 2020 02:20 PM PST Hello, What is the easiest way to do this (without having to download 3rd party software): 1) Create a text file using output from a directory command: 2) Send the contents of file.txt to an e-mail address or attach file.txt to an e-mail message. That's it. I can install Windows Mail or Outlook if needed; prefer to use a non-licensing software install such as Windows Mail. [link] [comments] |

5400RPM Drive slower after cleanup Posted: 02 Feb 2020 01:53 PM PST My set up consists of a 1TB SATA SSD for Windows and demanding games, a 1TB 7200 RPM HDD for games, and a 4TB 5400RPM HDD for mass file storage for pictures and video. When I switched to a new PC, I ended up dragging a lot of files from my old PC to my new one, and copy pasting rather than cut pasting. I ended up with around 1TB of duplicate files across my system. One evening I spent a good while cleaning up my PC, to great results. Unfortunately, I have noticed a dramatic slowdown in access times on my 4TB HDD. Explorer will occasionally freeze when I open up my pictures or video library which I moved onto the HDD, and moving between folders is significantly slower than it used to be. Is there a way to get my access times back up? [link] [comments] |
Bootcamp Windows 10 wifi problem Posted: 02 Feb 2020 09:48 AM PST So i have a really interesting problem. The pc i am trying to fix is a mac desktop all in 1 thats been partitioned to also use Windows 10. Problem: The Windows partition is having a problem with wifi download speeds. However the Mac side is fine. Example: we have a 200/d 35/u connection and on mac, we get almost the full speeds. However when i switch to the Windows partition the speed for download goes completely flat. 5g it doesnt get more than 2/d but the upload is fine. On the 2.4ghz i get a better 10-15/d but nowhere near what i should be getting 150-200/d. Things ive tried. Ipconfig /release and renew Fully resetting the network via network settings in control panel. Running the windows internet troubleshooter. Other network command prompts I cant find any way to fix this issue in windows [link] [comments] |
Windows 7 imaging as windows 10 Posted: 02 Feb 2020 12:46 PM PST My computer crashed and couldn't be fixed. So IT replaced it with a a new hard drive, however it's not the same. It's a windows 7 machine imaging as windows 10. Should I be concerned about performance? It uses multiple programs to monitor critical devices. [link] [comments] |
IBM Thinkpad T42 Wireless problems Posted: 02 Feb 2020 12:20 PM PST Hi there everyone. I am having an issue with my laptop. As the title states it is a IBM Thinkpad T42. When I got it, it came with windows 7 enterprise, so I uninstalled it and put windows 2000 on it. Tried using that with all the updates and extended kernel but compatibility still sucked so I got Windows XP SP3 and installed that. Now my wifi will never connect and fails to see my network sometimes. It worked fine on Windows 2000. I have already reinstalled the driver for my network adapter which is a Intel PRO/Wireless LAN 2100 3B Mini PCI adapter. I have also reinstalled windows twice with and it hasn't solved my issue. If anyone knows what's wrong I would greatly appreciate any help. [link] [comments] |
Does anyone know of a reliable way to run a program when the battery reaches a certain level? Posted: 02 Feb 2020 12:03 AM PST I've had a bit of dig online and haven't found a solution to this that works. It seems like a fairly basic thing to do, does anyone know of a way? [link] [comments] |
How to enable tap-to-drag when tap-to-click is disabled? Posted: 02 Feb 2020 11:53 AM PST Is there a way to enable double-tap-to-drag when tap-to-click is disabled? Currently my settings look like this: ☐ Tap with a single finger to single click \ ☑ Tap with two fingers to right click \ ☑ Tap twice and drag to multi-select \ ☑ Press the lower-right corner to right click While two-finger tap to right click works, double tap to drag does not. Is this a known issue? Is there a way I can drag without clicking that doesn't require me to turn on tapping? [link] [comments] |
