Posted: 01 Jan 2020 04:02 AM PST I just want to thank everyone for helping be build a pc from tips to suggested tutorials, I now have a machine I never thought I would own - consistent 120 fps for only $373.78 USD. Thank you. [link] [comments]
Posted: 01 Jan 2020 09:45 AM PST I am looking forward to build a PC this summer, and i would like to play at 60 fps and 1080p to all the games that have launched this year. I've been investigating and looking for the best pieces I could buy for the price and I think this is the best you could buy. If you think I could do any improvements don't be shy and tell me what they are. Thanks!!

Is there some software I can run to make sure all my parts are running to their full potential? Posted: 01 Jan 2020 10:18 AM PST As the title says. I want to know if there's something I can run to ensure everything is working as intended. [link] [comments]

Posted: 01 Jan 2020 07:23 AM PST I got a 2666 hz 8gb ram stick for my current build . but my friend has a spare 8gb 2400 mhz stick after he upgraded to 16 gb ddr4 3200mhz. And I was wondering if it was better to have the 16gb of ram but running at 2400 mhz or the 8gb running at 2666mhz since I herd that Ryzen CPUs perform better with higher speed instead of ram amount. Looking for a white GPU. Does Gigabyte ever restock? Posted: 01 Jan 2020 11:27 AM PST This particular 2060 Super is exactly what I'm looking for, but it's either out of stock or 50% more expensive anywhere I look. I'd like to wait for it to come back in stock if that's likely, but I don't want to delay my build weeks and weeks if it isn't going to come back. Finding new GPU for a (very) old system Posted: 01 Jan 2020 02:36 PM PST Hello Buildapc Reddit, When I first built my PC in March 2012, I had consulted with you all. You all were very helpful in refining my build. I got a GPU instead of relying on the intel integrated graphics thanks to you all. What a mistake that would have been! Well, 7 years is a long time and I do feel the core of my system is getting a old. I've upgraded the GPU twice now and went from a HDD to a SSD which did wonders. Now it seems it's time to upgrade my GPU again. So my GPU is starting to give what I think are artifacts when playing games like classic wow, path of exile and the like. I recently got all 3 Dark Souls and all 3 The Witchers on a steam sale and I would like to run them on very high settings. I am thinking before it actually dies and before I start playing the most recent games in those series I should get a new GPU. I have a budget of around 200, but I'd like to stay cheaper than than because it's an old system and I plan on making an expensive brand new build at the end of the year. So my current set up is down below and I am thinking of going with a Radeon RX 580. I found a card for 159.99 here. My my main question is would this be a good card? Should I spend more for a RX590 or a GTX 1660 or possibly go with a GTX 1650 SUPER? My card still woks, should I just hold out? I did have a concern about getting a 200+ card and it being bottle necked by my very old CPU. Would this be the case for all current GPUs or will my CPU still hold up? Currently the only game that has FPS issues is Path of Exile. With it's recent launch, I was reading that a few AMD cards were having constant crashes. If anyone plays PoE and knows what it works the best on (Nvidia vs AMD) please let me know so I can take that into consideration for this card or my upcoming expensive build. Thank you all for your help! [link] [comments]
PC in 2019 same approx price as PC in 199 Posted: 01 Jan 2020 02:08 PM PST EDIT: 1999 that is :) Just shredding some old papers and ran across an old receipt from a video encoding machine I bought in 1999 - the same price as it's great-grandchild, which I finished recently and just finished loading up today. PCs are just about the only thing I think of where we get more value for the same $ every year. 2019: https://pcpartpicker.com/user/gregariousrecluse/saved/#view=hNd4nQ [link] [comments]
How safe is water-cooling a pc? Posted: 01 Jan 2020 07:43 AM PST I'm going to be starting on a update to my old pc pretty soon, and I'm interested in trying to set up a water-cooling system instead of using primarily air. How "safe" is a water-cooled system for a pc that I tend to move around quite a bit, since my friends host lans whenever they come back from uni. 1070 Ti underperforming. 2nd percentile in userbenchmark Posted: 01 Jan 2020 06:21 AM PST This morning I ran userbenchmark and everything was fine, except the GPU. It was performing way below expectations. I've tried installing the latest driver but that didn't help. I also cleaned the whole PC, didn't really change much. Temperatures are at 30-50 °C. Nothing is running in the background when I run the test. Specs: i5-8600k 1070 Ti 16GB Ram 3000mhz Z370-F Gaming 500GB SSD 2TB HDD 650W Gold PSU Windows 10 Update: So I overclocked the GPU in Afterburner to 160 and 400 mhz and it's now in the 90th percentile in userbenchmark. Big thanks for the help guys. [link] [comments]
Posted: 01 Jan 2020 09:56 AM PST Hey guys, so last night my PC crashed for the first time. First, the monitor lost connection, then about 10 seconds later my keyboard lost connection. Then, after the keyboard lost connection, my fan's lights went out for about 2 seconds and then turned back on. I had to turn off the computer by the button on the case because I could not get the monitor to reconnect. I tried a different HDMI port on my monitor and that seemed to fix the connection problem. Though, about 20mins later all of this happened again. I switched the monitor back to the original port, and it got a connection again. This morning I updated my graphic card to the latest driver and did all of my windows updates that hadn't been done. It hasn't happened again but will update this thread if it does. I also ran a userbenchmark for the first time today and I will share the results. Everything looked fine except for the RAM. Not sure if I have a ram problem, would appreciate it if someone would tell me. I will list my parts below. Wanting to start building an animation heavy PC Posted: 01 Jan 2020 10:38 AM PST Hey everyone! As the title stats, I want to build a PC that I can start making animations with and eventually get a digital drawing tablet to hook up too. I just need some help a bit on good suggestions what I may need. I found on PCPartPicker of a lot of Gaming/Streaming builds being less than fifteen hundred. Although a lot of those have an i5 processor. I did see one that had an i9 with it, but had an extra thousand on the price tag. It also had a GeForce RTX 2080 card with it. Would that be enough or would I need to adjust it more? I appreciate the help in advance and apologize if this doesn't fit in this subbreddit. [link] [comments]
Posted: 01 Jan 2020 08:55 AM PST I have an issue with my pc where I turn it on and the monitor shows the dot loading start-up, but then displays no input. In order for it to work, I have to turn my computer off and on again, and I've tried turning off my monitor and turning it back on but that doesn't work. I'm plugged in through display port and my monitor is the Asus MG248QR. And my system specs are: CPU and cooler: Ryzen 7 3700X 8core 16thread with its stock wraith prism cooler Motherboard: Msi B450 TOMAHAWK MAX RAM: 16 gigs (8 x 2) of Crucial Ballistix Sport LT DDR4-3200 SSD: Samsung 860 Evo 500g HHD: WD caviar blue 1tb GPU: Gigabyte GeForce RTX 2070 super 8gb Windforce OC 3x fans PSU: EVGA SuperNOVA G3 650w 80+ gold Case: NZXT h510i [link] [comments]
Looking to build, haven't kept up to date on releases for about 6 years. Posted: 01 Jan 2020 11:26 AM PST Can someone give me a TL;DR of where we're at right now in generational releases and upcoming changes in technology? I do know we've moved on from DDR3 I'm pretty out of the loop beyond that. What were AMD and Nvidia up to last? Edit: And what are some upcoming releases to be excited about? Essentially I'm looking for starting places when I look into benchmarks and price points. [link] [comments]
Posted: 01 Jan 2020 02:12 PM PST All parts are listed below. Budget's around $1100, could go higher (within reason). Mainly looking to play CSGO at around 300fps 1080p and the new call of duty at around 100fps 1080p. Any suggestions or critiques would be really appreciated.

Posted: 01 Jan 2020 11:11 AM PST I recently built a pc with the ryzen 5 3600 and rx 5700 and when idle, the temperature of the cpu would be around 55°C and when stress testing on apps like cinebench shoot up to 95°C. I monitored the temps using ryzen master so I was sure it could not be wrong. I even reseated the stock cooler but it did not change anything. I was reall very confused and could not really find anything on the internet about anyone having this issue. Now, after disabling both of those options in the bios and changing the core voltage offset to -0.05V, it runs much better and maxes out at 75°C on cinebench and stays around 48°C when idling. My First Time Building, Please Advise Posted: 01 Jan 2020 01:24 PM PST
I am building a PC for myself, it will be used for general internet browsing alongside casual gaming from time to time. This will include games such as CS:GO, minecraft and overwatch (if it will run). I want to spend around £550 and am based in the UK. As this is my first build, I honestly have no idea what is considered good/value for money so if you are able to, please advise what components need swapping out, or possible even suggest a completely new set of parts if my choices are terrible. Many thanks in advance! [link] [comments]
Colors are washed out for Display Port but not HDMI Posted: 01 Jan 2020 03:34 PM PST I just got a second monitor and I just plugged it into my Display Port and the colors are all washed out and stuff, My other monitor is using HDMI and it has really good color. I switched the Output dynamic range to Full instead of limited in my Nvidia control panel; but that didn't change anything. So im not sure how to fix this and if you have any thoughts on how to please share them. My Nvidia Control Panel settings. [link] [comments]
Is this the right fan cable extension to use? Posted: 01 Jan 2020 10:32 AM PST I bought a fan hub since my motherboard doesn't have enough headers, but the cable coming from my cpu cooler is too short to reach the hub where I would like to put it. There isn't a good place to put the hub since I'm constrained to the length of the cpu cooler cable. I wan't to buy this 4 pin extension. The hub uses the fan speed from the cpu fan to set the speed for all case fans. Since this cable is 4 pins, it will work as intended to sync the speed for each fan, right? Thank you for the help! Posted: 01 Jan 2020 02:44 PM PST Hey everyone, after doing a lot of lurking and scouting I've attempted to put together a PC that I think would fit my needs perfectly and keep me solid for a couple of years with AAA gaming. I also have a lot of photos so that's why I got a fair amount of storage for it. The budget I was trying to stick to was around $1,500 USD / I still need to purchase a monitor but I can't decide between saving money and getting a 1080p 144hz or a 1440p 144hz. I would greatly appreciate your opinions on value, compatibility, and if you have any suggestions! Completely new to this, so I am very open to feedback! Main use for this will be AAA gaming, mostly FPS's like Modern Warfare, Battlefield, Apex Legends, etc. I will also be utilizing this for workstation tasks but nothing too heavy. Might dabble in streaming at one point, and would like to be able to utilize VR. Thank you!
