Lenovo Ideapad L340 - Yay or Nay? Posted: 31 Jan 2020 03:36 AM PST After doing some research I decided to go with this laptop, however I continued to research after purchase and am thinking about cancelling my order if given a compelling enough reason to do so. I'm looking for a productivity/business laptop that has a mid-tier level of gaming juice aswell. I don't want my laptop to scream that I game as I'll be taking it into meetings in the future, yet I'd love to be able to game in my free time. What I don't like about it is the single channel 8gb ram aswell as the smaller end of the spectrum 512 SSD, everything else seems to be a great value for the price. Let me know your thoughts! https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07VC55LF5/ref=cm_sw_r_wa_apa_i_S-anEbSGDCFHH [link] [comments] |
Laptop for gaming, and school, 1400$, USA Posted: 30 Jan 2020 11:18 PM PST Total budget and country of purchase: 1400$ish, USA Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply. Battery needs to be around 5 hours when not gaming. How important is weight and thinness to you? No more than 3kgs. Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux. Windows. Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. 13/15 inch Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. Mainly playing games like Minecraft, Tf2, maybe R6. If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? FPS of around 60 would be great but I can manage 30. I play Minecraft, R6 and TF2. Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? Reliable build. Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. [link] [comments] |
Laptop for light ethical hacking and modern gaming Posted: 31 Jan 2020 01:05 AM PST * **Total budget and country of purchase:** My budget is <$2000 USD tops to be bought either in USA or Japan within the next few months. * **Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply.** I want a laptop with a good battery life, available linux drivers, and a decent dedicated graphics card. * **How important is weight and thinness to you?** I'm pretty indifferent but would prefer <5lbs. I don't want to haul around a brick or anything. * **Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux.** I'll probably test out a few different Linux distributions before settling on one but it'll probably be an Ubuntu machine. * **Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.** I'd prefer bigger if it's within 14-17 inches. * **Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.** I'll mainly be using this box for gaming, running some VMS, and heavy networking usage most likely at times. * **If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?** Default settings of modern games should look good, which I think I'll be happy with a my budget price point. * **Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?** Some desired features would be: black or muted chassis (not flashy), reliable components under stressed resource consumption so they don't die due to heat, good tactile feel on a backlit keyboard and trackpad because I've had to deal with some shitty feeling ones, and definitely an ethernet port. As a bonus, if it has a TPM module that would be cool. * **Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.** I haven't had my own computer for like 5 years now since I've just been using company computers after closing my IT business. I'm about to move to Japan and I miss having my own machine that wasn't a scavenged box. I do web and network hacking stuff professionally but I don't really understand much about the hardware side of things since they're basically Legos to me. If it's more economical to buy it from Japan then I'm totally going to do that though. Thank you for helping me make a choice! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 30 Jan 2020 04:22 PM PST Hi guys! I need help deciding between these three.
The RB15 would be second hand, the previous owner used it for ~3 months and upgraded the RAM and storage. Original price + upgrades comes to about 4550 USD. It being used also means no gambling on Razers QC. What I use my laptop for:
I do realize that the Razer Blade is pretty overkill, it is also the only touch screen laptop with a seriously good graphics card. (Which should make it more future proof, right? Please correct me if I'm wrong.) The GTX 1650 would probably suffice for what I do, but I'm worried it won't hold up for as long. I want to be able to use this laptop for at least 5 years without it feeling really old. Ideally I would aim for a GTX 1660 / RTX 2060 or 2070 at most but those only get put in mid tier gaming laptops with no touch screen options (I'd really like to know why Razer offers the 60 Hz (non-gamer) touch display only in combination with the highest high-end gaming graphics card... that just makes no sense to me). So my perfect laptop doesn't exist and I can either go with lower specs that are near/at the limit of my minimal requirements and maybe add an eGPU in a couple years, OR spend quite a bit more for a laptop that I might not even use to it's full capabilities all that much but which will hopefully last me longer. What would you do? What's your opinion on either of these laptops in terms of longevity? Which one fits my use case best? Thanks in advance! [link] [comments] |
Looking for a long lasting laptop mostly for gaming Posted: 31 Jan 2020 04:03 AM PST * **Total budget and country of purchase:** Maximum 800€, Portugal * **Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply.** Mostly a good battery life (especially long term) and best specs for the money * **How important is weight and thinness to you?** Weight and thinness aren't a big deal tbh * **Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux.** Windows * **Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.** 15.6" or above * **Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.** I play League of Legends (which isn't extremely heavy), but mostly FPS games, which is why I wanted sth that could withstand heavier games. I still haven't settled on a video editor, but it'd be great if it could handle editing without having to constantly shut down everything else * **If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?** I don't play League so much anymore, but I do play Overwatch, TF2 and ocasionally CS:GO. My preferred settings are 60 fps, while still being able to maintain pretty decent graphics [link] [comments] |
Moderate Gaming and Photo Editing Posted: 31 Jan 2020 04:03 AM PST Laptop for moderate gaming and photo editing.

~$1000 Dell Laptop For Video Editing Posted: 30 Jan 2020 09:03 PM PST Total budget and country of purchase: $1000 & Live in the US Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply. Best specifications for the money. *How important is weight and thinness to you? Not important. Which OS do you require? Windows, please. Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. 15.3-17 Preferred. Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run: Plan to do video editing. Using mostly adobe premier and suite. Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? Not really. Looking for a budget 2-in-1 for uni, $500USD ($800AUD), Australia Posted: 31 Jan 2020 01:29 AM PST Total budget and country of purchase: $800AUD so ~$500USD & Australia. Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply. I would say a combination of form factor and battery life, I'll be almost entirely word processing and web surfing so I don't need a beefy laptop. How important is weight and thinness to you? Obviously the lighter the better (especially as I'll be commuting 3 hours each day to uni) but I would say not overly important. Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux. Have used all but Linux in the past so windows/mac/chrome os would be my preference although I'm sure I could adapt if necessary (and I'm sure I won't have a Mac OS available to me in my price range) Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. No too large, preferably <14". Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. No, I have a gaming/video-editing PC at home. I will be using Chrome (Google Docs, YouTube, online papers), a note taking software (probably Word), and Report Publishing software, all quite light programs. If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? N/A Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? No (aside from obviously a touchscreen as it's a 2 in 1) Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. I have a powerful PC at home so I'm not worried about performance in the slightest (as long as the laptop won't freeze if it has like fifteen tabs open in chrome and a word document open at max). Portability is much more important. Most importantly, I'm buying this laptop as a replacement to my trusty MacBook Pro 2013 which is finally beginning to fail me after seven years of continuous use and abuse. After spending so much on my PC at home I just can't justify buying another MacBook (around $1500 in Australia). Because of ridiculous stigmas in my faculty I wouldn't feel comfortable buying a different brand of regular laptop (arts kids are the worst) but a 2-in-1 would be perfect. Thanks very much. 2 in 1 with NVidia graphics/dedicated graphics recommendations? Posted: 30 Jan 2020 08:14 PM PST Hey all. So, I bought a Asus Zenbook Flip last year (UX461FN) and I bloody loved it. Unfortunately for me though, it had some issues with a faulty motherboard and the store gave me a credit. Apparently this model has been discontinued and I can't get another one and I'm devastated. It was PERRRFECT. Dedicated graphics so I could play Sims to my heart's content, light, long battery life and I could practice drawing on Krita with the touch screen/take notes on it for DND. Would anyone be able to recommend something similar? I live in Australia and I am happy to pay $1700 for a new computer, but I really can't afford any more than that. I would consider something that is not 2 in 1 if I had too, and buy a wacom tablet. But I really would like a 2 in 1. TLDR: Can someone recommend a 2 in 1, about ($1700 aud) that has dedicated graphics, good screen with a pen for drawing and long battery life? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 30 Jan 2020 08:05 PM PST Total budget and country of purchase: $2000 however may stretch to $2300 if that's what it takes. Australia Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply. Best specs. The rest don't matter much. How important is weight and thinness to you? Not at all important. Bricks are fine. Which OS do you require? Windows Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. No smaller than 17.3in. I need a big screen. Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. Mostly Ableton Live, which is software for electronic music creation and performance. Also Serato DJ. And a little general gaming, no specific titles come to mind. If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? A few FPS shooters at high spec and 60fps preferably. No benchmark games, I'm fairly casual. Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)
Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. The closest in spec I can find to suit my needs is the Gigabyte Aorus 7 SA, which are out of stock everywhere. This machine will be lasting me at least 5 or 6 years. Also thanks for reading!! I appreciate it. [link] [comments] |

Budget Laptop for Music Production Posted: 30 Jan 2020 08:04 PM PST Hey everyone! I've been looking into buying a laptop for music production and possibly some light homework. I figured I would ask for recommendations here, as I am not the most knowledgeable when it comes to laptops. Total budget and country of purchase: $500-$1,000 /// USA Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply. Doesn't matter to me, I'm okay with putting up with a bad battery life and whatnot👌 How important is weight and thinness to you? Weight and thinness isn't important to me. Which OS do you require? Windows, MAC, Chrome OS, Linux: Windows and MAC are preferred, I know that they work really well with a lot of DAWS. Do you have a preferred screen size? N/A Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. I only plan on running a DAW. ability to run Photoshop would be a plus as I am a photographer by hobby, but it's really no bother to me if I can't run that type of program. Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? I will need a headphone jack. finishing thoughts I don't mind something a little over budget as I would probably be able to find it used and within budget👍 Also, this maybe a little off topic but I found a really nice Samsung computer that seems to match all the specs. However it seems really cheap for what it gives so I felt it may be a scam😬 https://jumocomputer.com/products/samsung-notebook-7-spin-15-6-2-in-1-2tb-ssd-32gb-ram-extreme-fast-intel-processor-7th-gen-core-i7-turbo-boost-to-3-50ghz-32-gb-ram-2-tb-ssd-15-6-touchscreen-win-10-pc-laptop-computer-np740u5m?gclid=EAIaIQobChMI5pzK1uis5wIVTv_jBx2eTAkyEAkYAiABEgL6EfD_BwE what do you guys think?🗿 [link] [comments] |

Posted: 30 Jan 2020 11:12 AM PST Total budget and country of purchase: Preferably up to $1200 Canadian ($900 USD). Willing to pay $1500 Canadian dollars ($1,134 in USD) at max Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply. Best specifications How important is weight and thinness to you? Not important. While a thin and light laptop would be nice, I'd be willing to sacrifice that for good specs Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux. Windows Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. Between 15 and 21 inches Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. Gaming, school (google drive, MS Word, note-taking apps), be able to run lots of tabs at once (I like to multitask). If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? Steam games such as Halo MCC, Rainbow Six Siege, Subnautica, Cyberpunk when released. 60 fps and 4k would be nice, but I'll settle for 30 fps and HD resolution. Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? Reliable build quality and a good keyboard would be nice, but I can live without both Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. While I do want to game, I would prefer a laptop that does not look like a gaming laptop, with lots of colour, lots of sharp edges and a light-up keyboard; it would just be begging to be stolen. I'm new to the whole laptop purchase process, so I apologize if these specs are too unrealistic with the given budget. [link] [comments] |
