Best 1440P 144Hz Monitor Under $300? Posted: 30 Dec 2019 11:10 AM PST Hey all, I'm looking to possibly return my MSI Optix MAG27CQ ( keep seeing people say the monitor has noticeable ghosting ) that I bought not too long ago. First off, if anyone has used it, how is the monitor itself? I haven't been able to test it just yet. Also, if I were to return it, what is the best monitor I can buy through MicroCenter under $350-$400 that offered 1440P 144HZ with little to no ghosting and low response time. Saved over $350 at Micro Center for my first PC build! Posted: 30 Dec 2019 12:10 PM PST I saw a TON of people recommending Micro Center on reddit and youtube, especially for lower end builds due to their $30 CPU + motherboard combo deal (it's now $20 i believe). I'm also the type that doesn't want to wait a day or more my the parts to be shipped, so I decided to take the 40 minute trip to my local store for my first build. My immediate impression was just how much stock they have. They have pretty much every current generation CPU, GPU, motherboard, CPU coolers, monitors, keyboards, etc. Anyways, these are the parts that I was looking for, and the prices found on Amazon/other cheap online retailers: https://pcpartpicker.com/user/XstrolitePC/saved/nhpx6h The total comes out to $2817 + 9.5% tax = $3094 But at Microcenter, the total was $2550 + 7.5% tax = $2741. This is the parts list for the prices I got at microcenter, if interested: https://pcpartpicker.com/user/XstrolitePC/saved/dx4RkL My state, California, has a statewide 9.5% retail tax, but some cities, like the one Microcenter was located in has lower tax rates. I also had an issue with the CPU, and easily returned it although it was outside the 15 day return period. So, all in all, I HIGHLY recommend going to your microcenter! Sorry for those of you that are hundreds of miles away from the nearest one :( [link] [comments]
Desk and chair recommendations for people tall people? Posted: 30 Dec 2019 06:53 AM PST I'm 6'2 and a broad shouldered dude. I work from home infront of a PC all day and game in the evening -- and I always feel so cramped and my back kills me. Do you guys have any recommendations? Posted: 30 Dec 2019 03:27 PM PST So recently I just bought a new graphics card, the RX 580, to upgrade from my old one, the RX 560, but recently the amount of frames I have been getting on games I play have been dropping as well as lower than it has been with my 560. The build I have is an FX 6300 six core with a GIGABYTE GA-78LMT-USB3 R2 as well as an 8 gigs of DDR-3 1600 RAM. I also don't know why my PC crashes at random times and I don't if its because of the motherboard, CPU, and RAM. [link] [comments]
Do I really need an anti-static bracelet? Posted: 30 Dec 2019 03:15 PM PST Just got the last of my parts in but I forgot to get an anti-static bracelet. Is it really necessary? Thanks in advance [link] [comments]
Posted: 30 Dec 2019 12:40 PM PST So I built a PC (my first). Here are the specs R5 2600 MSI B450 Gaming pro carbon AC Corsair Vengeance RGB pro ram (2x8gb, 3200mhz but I have left xmp off for now) XFX RX5700 DD Corsair RM650x Tell me if you need more The problem is that when I have made an installation media and try to boot from it, I get a black screen. I can get into the BIOS fine. I only have a MacBook, I don't have a PC running Windows (yet). Therefore, I cannot use the official tool for creating installation medias from Microsoft. So far I have tried: Reset all BIOS settings Create installation media via Boot Camp Assistant Create installation media via terminal Download Etcher (the download keeps crashing) Different USB port on MoBo Sorry if formatting looks horrible Please tell me if you need more info, Hopefully someone can help Thanks in advance [link] [comments]
Trouble installing Windows with USB Drive Posted: 30 Dec 2019 02:35 PM PST I just got done with my first ever build. Everything went great, POSTed on the first shot. I made a bootable WIN10 USB using my iMac. The new PC booted into the Windows setup, but it gave me an error with the install.wim file. After doing a bit of research, it appears that the install.wim file is greater than 4GB, and the FAT32 file system can't handle files that big. So, with only having access to an iMac, is there any way I can create a bootable USB that will work? Thanks [link] [comments]
Got the MSI X570 Gaming EDGE WIFI for 160$ on sale, good deal or should i return? Posted: 30 Dec 2019 04:47 AM PST So i got this Mobo on sale for Christmas as i really wanted wifi and bluetooth in my pc. My friend recommended me the B450 Carbon before for these features. I'm not really sure about the rest of my build yet other than that i will be getting a AMD 3600. I'm reading a lot of reviews which say that even though X570 is good, this one is worse than some comparable Mobos in that price range, did i fall into a trap by seeing this massive discount? Posted: 30 Dec 2019 03:17 PM PST Is this power supply any good still? Its the older one with green letters. I use it with a 980 and I think it does fine, but I want to use it with a new motherboard z390 , rtx 2070s and i7 9700k . [link] [comments]
really can’t tell a difference between 60hz and 144hz Posted: 30 Dec 2019 03:17 PM PST I tried switching between them midgame when i was getting around 200fps and really couldn't tell a difference, any change i noticed was so small i put it down to a placebo affect - is it possible it's not actually changing? My monitor goes up to 144hz - actually i think it's like 155 or something and i'm using a displayport cable plugged into my 2080, switching between refresh rates in nvidia control panel. Is there somewhere else i have to set refresh rate too? [link] [comments]
The age we live in is seriously awesome. Posted: 30 Dec 2019 01:39 PM PST I play ROMs of old console games from time to time, but it can be buggy on Wii/Wii U, and packing up my whole setup just for a night of gaming at a friends house can be a bit of an endeavor, so I was curious how much it would cost to build a basic system (think laptop specs) that would be capable of running any old-school game. $235 is what I came up with. That's crazy cheap! It might be possible to get an even cheaper CPU and get it below $200, but I'm not sure the CPU I have in this list would be able to run Dolphin too well. But I decided that this is still worth sharing for two reasons: I hope you find this as cool as I do!

Posted: 30 Dec 2019 03:03 PM PST Hey guys, my question is 144hz monitor it's good only for gaming? I'm asking that because i don't know if i buy one or a 29'' 75hz ultrawide monitor. I don't play that much, so i just want to know if i would use 144hz for any other reason. [edit] Thank you all for the help! i'll go with a 29'' ultrawide. Posted: 30 Dec 2019 02:48 PM PST Sooo I dropped my tempered glass about 1 inch onto my kitchen island... turns out the glass didnt like that very much and blew up everywhere. Finally cleaned up all the blood and glass. Be careful out there :) P.S. shoutout NZXT for sending me a free replacement [link] [comments]
Posted: 30 Dec 2019 02:36 PM PST https://pcpartpicker.com/list/GGV8Zf This is my first time building. If I could, I'd like to shave a couple bucks off in areas where I might be spending too much. It's strictly a gaming build, though so productivity use for college is likely in order. One blaring question: Which GPU should I go with? More specifically, which 5700 XT should I choose? The XFX THICC III ULTRA or the MSI Gaming X? The X is a bit cheaper but lacks a third fan, which the XFX card has, and has slightly slower clock speeds. Though I've heard MSI is a better brand for this GPU, however all the reviews on the THICC III ULTRA I've watched said it's a great card, considerably better than the THICC II. First PC build, I have no idea what I am doing. Posted: 30 Dec 2019 02:23 PM PST What is your intended use for this build? The more details the better. Will use for schoolwork, lots of web surfing, and multiplayer games. If gaming, what kind of performance are you looking for? (Screen resolution, framerate, game settings) Honestly, not looking for specific specs, but smooth gameplay What is your budget (ballpark is okay)? ≤$1000 In what country are you purchasing your parts? In the U.S.
This is my first time building a computer, I have a understanding of technology but I am not 100% sure if I am shopping efficiently. From what I can tell, all of my parts are compatible and will provide me with good quality gameplay (especially for my limited budget). I will run Windows 10 on my computer. My monitor is 1080p and 60hz. -Is anything NOT compatible that I am unaware of? -Are my parts overkill? Is there anything I should be downgrading or upgrading? I'm worried some parts are unnecessary and will not improve my performance- should they be swapped for a cheaper option?
"Note:The motherboard M.2 slot #1 shares bandwidth with SATA 6.0 Gb/s ports. When the M.2 slot is populated, two SATA 6.0 Gb/s ports are disabled." My NVME SSD will occupy my M.2 slot (from what I can tell) and I don't understand- will this notification be a concern? Do I just leave 2 SATA ports open because the M.2 slot will be using them?
"Note:Some physical dimension restrictions cannot (yet) be automatically checked, such as cpu cooler / RAM clearance with modules using tall heat spreaders." Am I receiving this because there could potentially be a problem or is this just a general notification that I shouldn't be concerned about? -I would plan on upgrading PC parts in the future as technology advances- are things like my motherboard/power supply good starting points or will they quickly become outdated? New PC boots but nothing on display? Posted: 30 Dec 2019 02:22 PM PST My new build turns on but nothing on the display. GPU turns on then the fans stop. I've tried removing the gpu and using internal nothing. the specs are i5 9600k Cooler master hyper 212 black Msi z390 gaming plus 16gb Corsair vengeance Gtx 1060 gigabyte windforce oc Thermaltake tr2 600 watt psu [link] [comments]
Upgrade now or wait for Zen 3? Posted: 30 Dec 2019 10:28 AM PST Hello friends, Current rig:
I plan to upgrade my gaming rig (6ish years old) with a new build that's aiming for top end performance (goal is 1440 @ 144hz). But I have a dilemma - the i9 9900k is arguably the best gaming CPU right now but it's also using 14nm tech on an old chipset that doesn't support PCI 4.0. Now here's my thought. Intel has been lacking lately and I don't have much confidence that their next chips will be stellar, whereas AMD seems to be doing well and if early reports are true, Zen 3 chips should be pretty beast. Rather than wait for Zen 3, should I do a top end build but go with the 3700X for now and then upgrade to a Zen 3 chip later since it will also use AM4? Unsure about the resale value but waiting 6ish months for a new build would be painful. Open to hear your thoughts, thanks! [link] [comments]
RX 5700 XT vs 2070 Super vs 2080 Super Posted: 30 Dec 2019 12:27 PM PST I'm trying to decide what best fits my use case. Currently I have 1080p 60 fps monitor and a Oculus Rift S. But I plan on upgrading to a 1440p with somewhere between 120 - 165 fps. I don't plan on going for 4K for quite some time so I think the 2080 Super is over powered. What do you'll think fellow redditors? [link] [comments]
Worth losing a warranty for a third-party GPU cooler? Posted: 30 Dec 2019 11:04 AM PST How many of you have owned a card that explicitly says "if you take this apart and put on a cooler, you lose your warranty", and went ahead and did it anyway? Sapphire and powercolor are two examples of manufacturers who have zero tolerance for opening the card. While XFX, Gigabyte, and EVGA say you can. I love my build, but my Sapphire 5700xt pulse is the loudest component. It would be an easy switch to an arctic accelero or rajintek Morpheus. How many GPUs actually fail? Sometimes, right? But then sometimes, it's just warranty anxiety. Technically, better cooling would increase the card's lifespan. Would you do it to lose the warranty but gain better temps and low noise? PC makes a buzzing noise when I scroll Posted: 30 Dec 2019 03:53 PM PST Recently built a PC (last few months) and I have started to notice that when I scroll or move my mouse around there is a weird buzzing noise coming from my tower. Anyone have any idea what could be making this noise? Build below. [link] [comments]
Upgraded monitor. Worked well at first, can't play games now. Posted: 30 Dec 2019 03:49 PM PST Troubleshooting Help:What is your parts list? nsider formatting your parts list. This is the current list, except I upgraded the monitor to this one. and I now have 16GB (2x8GB) of DDR3 memory (Patriot brand), not 8GB. Describe your problem. List any error messages and symptoms. Be descriptive. I upgraded my monitor (see link above) and my games Orbiter 2016 (with D3D9 client), Guild Wars 1, Guild Wars 2, Cities Skylines, NoLimits Coaster Simulator 2, Here is Cities:Skylines today: htps://imgur.com/a/qlvms1 The game is unplayable. This was after unsubscribing from all mods, uninstalling the game, restarting, reinstalling the game and restarting again. I've also noticed the graphics driver seemed to uninstall itself. The radeon program was in the "hidden icons" menu on the bottom right of the screen, but I got an error about the driver not being installed, I can't remember exactly what the message was, but I reinstalled the drivers multiple times. As for Guild Wars 2, I at least had working last night, but switching to Firefox or the desktop would cause it to switch back and forth really quick between the two like 6 times. Today, it wouldn't open at all. You would see the icon at the taskbar, and you could switch to it, but you'd never actually get to the game and it would take you right back to the desktop. Also, CPU usage was 88% and Memory was 86%. NL2 Wouldn't open at all due to some error. I should have written it down. All of these only started happening after I upgraded the monitor. I have since put back in the old monitor instead. List anything you've done in attempt to diagnose or fix the problem. Well last time, my RAM had died which was causing issues. Cities: Skylines wouldn't let me lower the resolution, it was stuck at the 1440 highest resolution. Speccy showed 16GB RAM and that my video card was working. To "fix" the problem I went back to my old monitor. I opened the body up, and the graphics card light was working. Post relevant photos of build/parts here. Some pics of the inside. Not sure I'd be able to go with a bigger motherboard as the power supply is right there, so I'd have to be careful of that. Not dusty, good airflow, maybe not the best cable management. You can see the graphics card light is on, and I just had the computer at the desktop with nothing running. I didn't see the GPU fans spinning- not sure if that's normal or not if it's just at the desktop. Provide any additional details you wish below. I thought about replacing the motherboard to one that can take DDR4 RAM, but I'm not sure it's worth it because I'll have to replace the CPU and it'll be so much work. And CPU's aren't cheap. If I can save a couple hundred per month, would it be worth it to just upgrade to something like Alienware that can handle my monitor better? Or is there something else that could be going on? Is it just some setting or toggle I need to do? It's so weird that it worked the first night just fine then just deteriorated. What seems to be the problem- a CPU/GPU/RAM bottleneck from increased demands because of the larger and higher hertz monitor? Thanks for the help!
