Should I buy a second laptop "just in case"? Posted: 31 Dec 2019 02:25 AM PST So far, my average laptop lifespan seems to be about 3 years. I bought an HP one last year and quite liked it. When the same model went on sale again this year at Costco, I bought the same one ($300) with the plan to just put it in storage for when my current laptop dies out. Is this a dumb idea? I can still return it and I'm on the fence. Thanks :) [link] [comments]

Portable external keyboard for laptop Posted: 31 Dec 2019 01:28 PM PST Anyone know of a good external (folding or smaller) keyboard for a laptop for portable (library) use? Bought https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07TFTF32R/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1, a 11.2 in long smaller laptop keyboard at amazon recently, only to find it doesn't have Right-ctrl key, which is very inconvenient. Even though the size seems to match the size of laptop inbuilt keyboard, still find somehow my fingers missing the keys when typing on this new one. Need a keyboard that is portable (to carry in bag to library, so quieter one would be better). Mainly need it for general work on laptop that I use extensively. I thought I'd find one on amazon but a lot of these smaller ones don't have Right-control key or different key arrangements. Any good one without the above issues? [link] [comments]
Noctua NF A12x25 Fans on a laptop pad Posted: 31 Dec 2019 12:33 PM PST I have a Gaming laptop and don't really need a cooling pad but was interested in buying one. Is there a cooling pad out there that has NF A12x25fans on it if not is there a pad that you'd be able to add these onto it? [link] [comments]
I am thinking about a MS Surface Pro 6 , your opinions pls Posted: 31 Dec 2019 12:25 PM PST Hi, So yeah I am thinking about buying a Surface Pro 6. But I want to connect a USB-C Hub to it, since it will vastly improve the port availability. The ports on the hub I am looking for is USB-C Input (not PD), HDMI, SD card slot, USB 3.0, Ethernet. I need to have a USB-A to USB-C Female adapter to connect the USB-C hub to it. Please let me know your opinions on this. Would this "Microsoft Surface Connect to USB-C Adapter , Mfg.Part: HVU-00001" do the trick ? Will this enable my Pro 6 to be connected to multiple screens , provided I connect a USB-C hub with HDMI ports on it ? [link] [comments]

Posted: 31 Dec 2019 01:10 PM PST I'm purchasing an ASUS ROG G752VL with a GTX 965M. I know its underpowered, though as a temporary gaming laptop for $250, is it worth purchasing? [link] [comments]
Posted: 31 Dec 2019 12:55 PM PST Hey guys, I am trying to decide which laptop to buy, the T480 from Lenovo or the new Inspiron 5000/7000 from Dell. Will use mostly for coding, using Linux as the main OS. I am looking for good build quality and support. Edit: are HP pavilion really bad? They have a new 10 gen Intel version that seemed OK. Buying laptops from third party sellers in Amazon? Posted: 31 Dec 2019 12:53 PM PST Is it safe? Would definitely only go with those that have the fulfilled by Amazon label but is that enough? I don't want for my laptop to have its seal broken or warranty expired (as I've read about a bit too often) and then have some problem with it If it's a risk I'd rather just spend a bit more for one with slightly worse specs but at least is shipped and sold by Amazon itself. Or newegg, seems like they Ave the same issue [link] [comments]

Seeking an alternative to thin rubber grip feet, but in large quantities Posted: 31 Dec 2019 11:26 AM PST I'm seeking an alternative to thin rubber grip feet from a hardware store. Something I could pick up from home depot or such in great abundance; I have multiple laptops to add feet. HOWEVER, my laptops are the 360 kind of laptops, so it needs to be thin in order to fold back, and still have a grip to prevent a laptop from sliding. Any solutions? [link] [comments]
I can not find a solid answer for this.. Display over USB-C Dock Posted: 31 Dec 2019 10:47 AM PST I was planning to get one pretty good laptop to replace both my 6 year old desktop and surface pro 3 laptop. My desire is to get a USB-C dock and be able to use the laptop in clamshell mode at my desk at home (with my nice keyboard, mouse, monitor, and hardwired internet), then unplug a single USB-C cable (and charging cable, since USB-C doesn't support enough wattage to charge most semi-powerful laptops, apparently?) and take my laptop with me and have all my files, programs, settings always with me. I was watching a YouTube video about the dock I was looking at and the reviewer mentioned that USB-C docks can't make use of the discrete GPU, only the Intel graphics provided by the CPU... but a Thunderbolt port can. Then I started doing some more research and found that maybe there is something called Displaylink that uses the GPU to render frames but then sends those frames to the integrated GPU to send over USB to the dock.... but it was unclear if this is supported by every laptop manufacturer/every dock manufacturer. Is the workflow I'm wanting possible with USB-C? Or do I need to go to Thunderbolt 3? Do either of these even support Clamshell mode? [link] [comments]
Posted: 31 Dec 2019 10:43 AM PST I have just doubled my ram too 16gb(2x8gb) it has an ssd which i believe is m. 2 I have seen a Samsung Pro 960 I want to buy but don't wish to buy the incorrect ssd as my knowledge with upgrading is out of date. I also might take out the mechanical hard drive for a 2.5 inch ssd is this also worth while. [link] [comments]
Posted: 31 Dec 2019 10:17 AM PST Looking at the one with the 2060, 120 hz refresh rate, 512 gb ssd, and i7-9750 processor. Currently have a gaming pc but need a laptop for when I'm not home. Any other laptops for around the price of this one I should take a look at? Thanks! [link] [comments]

Panasonic Toughbook CF 31 vs CF 30? Posted: 31 Dec 2019 09:32 AM PST I see the CF 30 everywhere even on amazon for cheap but for some reason the CF 31 is harder to get despite being a newer model, and it's way more expensive. Around $300 for the CF 30 and $3000 for the CF 31? Insane difference. I'm interested in getting one of these laptops but not sure which one to choose. Can anyone help me out? [link] [comments]
Price of Lenovo IdeaPad 720S (7300HQ + 1050 Ti + 8GB dual channel RAM + 256GB SSD) Posted: 31 Dec 2019 03:11 AM PST Hey guys, I'd just like to know how much you think an open box, unused version of this laptop is worth. I'd say in the ballpark of 700 USD? [link] [comments]
Bought a new battery. Might need calibration? Posted: 31 Dec 2019 04:31 AM PST Hello there. I have an old Dell 5521 from a few years ago. the battery it came with stopped working and yesterday i finally bought a new battery.
I googled and apparently this is somewhat common? I have reason to believe that the battery is perfectly fine and that it has something to do with calibration. I google and someone is saying
Note: I do use hibernate instead of shutting it down. https://superuser.com/questions/155395/battery-charge-suddenly-drops-from-about-25-to-6 Any help would be greatly appreciated. the battery works amazing 100 to 26. [link] [comments]
Posted: 31 Dec 2019 07:18 AM PST So, I got a new laptop for christmad and it's a gaming laptop. I was just wondering if leaving it charging while I play but capping the charger percentage to 60% is better in terms of it's lifespan? I keep it cool as well the battery doesnt get abpve 40c worst case [link] [comments] |
