    Need a new Laptop

    Posted: 07 Dec 2019 07:41 AM PST

Hey guys, I'm looking to buy a new laptop. I'm an architect, so I need a laptop that can withstand Revit, Rhino and adobes and do proper rendering on vray. I would also like to double it as a gaming laptop (desktop is not an option because I move around constantly)

My budget goes around $2000, and so far have narrowed it down to the following.

    • Razer Blade 15, FULL HD 144HZ, Intel core i7, GeForce RTX 2070, 16gb ram and 512gb SSD (or something along those specs, maybe Rtx 2060 and more ram)

    • Acer concept d7. Which as far as I know has 4k panel, rtx 2080 and 32gb ram for the same price as the Razer (I guess that for this one I want to know if it could doble as a gaming laptop)

    • Gigabyte's aero 15. I'll be looking for specs similar to the Razer.

I want reddit's knowledge on the matter. So tell me which one would you take, or if you got another option,

    Thanks!

    180°F while playing minecraft?!

    Posted: 07 Dec 2019 08:03 AM PST

Hello I have an acer predator helios 300 (2019) 9th gen i7 6-core, 16gb ram, 1660ti 6GB, 256GB SSD. And when I play minecraft with my extreme Sildur's shader, my CPU temp will reach 180°F (peaked at 190°F once) And I have to have my fans on max to keep my cpu at about 170°F... is this normal/safe temps for my laptop? Especially for running minecraft?!

Fan is running loud for a split second when I tried to access a website

    Posted: 07 Dec 2019 01:12 PM PST

    Hi guys,

I just got my new laptop yesterday (Eluktronics Mag-15) and I noticed some weird fan behaviors on my new laptop.

    1. Sometimes, when I tried to access any random website, links, or even a Reddit thread, My laptop fan went loud/running fast for a second/split second and then went back to quiet like normal.
    2. Also, sometimes my laptop fan turned on randomly for a few minutes, went quiet, and then turned on again when I browsed via google (especially when I opened gmail/facebook).

Are all of this normal? Should I return my laptop instead?

Asus G 60 hz vs. Legion y540 144hz, please help

    Posted: 07 Dec 2019 10:48 AM PST

I Just bought https://www.bestbuy.com/site/asus-17-3-gaming-laptop-intel-core-i7-16gb-memory-nvidia-geforce-gtx-1660-ti-512gb-solid-state-drive-black/6356779.p?skuId=6356779 for 899 but it only has a 60hz a screen. I can get a legion Y540 17.3 inch 1660ti, 8g ram (which i would uprgrade) and 144hz. But it only has the 9300h not the 9750h. So basically, should I return the asus for the legion? The asus has a better cpu while the legion has a better screen. I love the build quality of the asus. It's a solid laptop with great thermals and a solid chasis plus cool light shows lol. My only problem is the screen. What do you guys think? Iam afraid the legion won't have a better chasis and Idk if the 9300h will keep up with the 1660 ti. Both are the same price, so should i return the asus and get the legion? Is the 9750h worth it over the 9300h? I do a lot cpu intensive gaming such as wow, total war, siege, gta5 etc....

Pen compatible with HP Pavilion x360

    Posted: 07 Dec 2019 11:58 AM PST

So I have recently bought this laptop and after using it for a couple hours I want to get a pen. The thing is I went to the store and the employee there told me the only one compatible is the HP official one, which is 100€ and that there are not other compatible pens out there. I know this is not true just because, so here comes my question. Is it really worth it the 100€ or can I find a cheaper one that works right? I'm not gonna use it for drawing or graphic designing, just to take a few notes in class and to be more accurate when browsing. Basically, I want it so I don't fat finger on links, files, posts... Btw thank you in advance.

Asus Zephyrus GX502GW vs Gigabyte Aero 15 Classic XA

    Posted: 07 Dec 2019 11:27 AM PST

    Hi all,

    I'm in the market for a gaming and work laptop for college. I'm a little torn between the Asus Zephyrus S GX502GW (Full 2070, 1TB, 16GB RAM. 240Hz screen) and the Gigabyte Aero 15 Classic-XA (2070 Max-Q, 512GB, 16GB RAM, 240Hz screen).

For the Zephyrus, I plan to purchase from HIDevolution and put liquid metal on both the CPU and GPU. For the Aero, I plan to purchase from GentechPC and also put liquid metal on both the CPU and GPU. I do plan to upgrade the Zephyrus to 32GB RAM to get dual channel or upgrade the Aero to 1TB storage. With these upgrades in mind, the Zephyrus is slightly cheaper (about $30) than the Aero.

My dilemma is that I love the look of the Zephyrus (although the logo is a bit gamery, I plan to have HIDevolution disconnect the cable to the logo light so it shouldn't stand out too much in a professional environment), but the battery life of the Aero is very attractive (even though the Aero is not a good looking laptop in my opinion). From what I've seen from reddit and other reviews, people tend to get 5.5-6hrs with the Zephyrus working, and 8-9hrs with the Aero working. To address the Zephyrus's battery (if I need to work for an extended amount of time - I don't usually need my laptop lasting a whole day), I plan to use my old 61W USB-C charger for the Mac to extend the Zephyrus's battery a little bit. The charger's weight will make the Zephyrus + charger 0.3lbs/130g heavier than just the Aero itself.

Could someone who's familiar with/or owns either laptop share their experience using them for gaming/daily work, and also talk about the battery life and thermals (with/without repaste)? I'd really appreciate any suggestions on which laptop I should purchase. Thank you very much!

My mousepad stopped working on my Lenovo Yoga c740 14"

    Posted: 07 Dec 2019 05:20 AM PST

Yesterday I updated my driver's with IObit Advanced System Care 13 (a free version, I don't know if there is a pay for version), and did a Windows update. After that my mousepad didn't work at all. I don't know when it stopped working because I kind of did everything at the same time and because I have a touchscreen on my computer I also use that when it seems easier.

Anyways, I panicked and did everything I could to fix this so here's what I did without any success at all. (The order may be different but I'll write it as good as I can)

    1. Restarted the computer.
    2. Pressed f6.
    3. Completely turned the computer off and started it again.
    4. Went to settings to see so it didn't wipe out the mouse section completely (which it hadn't)
    5. Looked to see if I could redo the driver update (couldn't)
    6. Went into the mousepad activity, and it is there, turned on, with no recognition of activity.
    7. Deleted the mouse and restarted the computer so it installed it again, which it did. No activity.
    8. Did a clean installation of Windows.
    9. Did a scan and a driver update scan on lenovos own website. It found a driver update for the keyboard, so I downloaded that anyways. And you know by now that that didn't work.
    10. Looked to see if I could find a way to re-code it. But couldn't.

Then, more panic, so I went to sleep.

Is there anyone who knows what I can do? The laptop is less than a week old and my wallet is hurting because of it so I'm desperate..

    Hello everyone

    Posted: 07 Dec 2019 10:32 AM PST

So i want a laptop that is decent, can handle some light gaming, like Minecraft, CSGO, fortnite, at decent frame rates, my budget starts at 500 and ends at 800, what should i get, i don't necessarily want a gaming laptop, a laptop that has core i 7 8th or 9th gen would also be good for me, what should i get and why should i get that ?

Fresh install of Aero 15: Should I do it, and what about the AI?

    Posted: 07 Dec 2019 08:39 AM PST

I'm getting my Aero 15 today, and debating a fresh install of Windows 10 to get all the bloatware off the system. One thing that I'm not sure about is that the fresh install (I think) would remove the Azure AI from the system, which I don't want, since I am not comfortable changing around fan profiles and the like, and have heard of 5-10% performance increases (for those who don't know too much about changing all the laptop's settings around). If I do a fresh install, how do I reinstall the Azure AI? Thanks for any help!

Note: If there's anything else I should know about a fresh install it would be appreciated, but so far I have gathered this post and this post.

Another Note: I've looked on the subreddit but haven't found any posts relating to the AI part of a fresh install of the Aero 15.

HP Envy x360 - Rebinding Side Volume keys

    Posted: 07 Dec 2019 07:53 AM PST

Does anyone know how to rebind the side volume keys on the this laptop. SharpKeys recognizes the side volume button as the same as Fn+F5 or F6 and I would like to keep the second (FN+key) functional, while rebinding the side buttons to sleep/power off.
