Looking for tablet: really just want to read websites etc, but .. smoothly Posted: 18 Dec 2019 05:32 AM PST Hi there. My current tablet is a Zenpad 9 or somesuch, and I'm not happy with it. I don't need much power, I really only use it for reading the web and PDFs and occasionally a newspaper app, but it doesn't even do that well. Shuts down seemingly at random while it's left plugged in for a few days, takes forever to boot, the touchscreen is slow to respond or responds to touches that never happened, it can't scroll smoothly, the list goes on. What I'm looking for is a tablet, preferably inexpensive, that will allow me to read text and not hate every minute of it. If that means "get a Tab from three years ago and flash it with a custom ROM" that's fine, but if I can just buy it that's preferred. What would you recommend? [link] [comments] |
Wi-Fi issues after Android 10 update Posted: 18 Dec 2019 07:18 PM PST Currently have an Samsung S10+ with Sprint. My phone updated to Android 10 yesterday and since then my phone has had issues with my home WiFi. Home internet is thru FIOS 1GB upload and download. Ditched the FIOS gateway for an Archer AX6000 and Moca bridge to take advantage of WiFi 6 speeds. Before the update my Wi-Fi was sound. Consistent speeds, Chrome internet pages loaded quickly, and Reddit loaded fast. After the update, internet is sluggish with constant disconnects. Chrome pages lag before finally opening and FB messenger flat out will not send messages over Wi-Fi. Tested internet on my wife's iPhone and kids Kindles with no issues. All other devices are hardwired with cat5 and no issues. Before update speeds were consistent on 5ghz at 600/600 +/- and 300/300 +/- on 2.4ghz. Tested thru the routers speed test and an internet speed test application. After the update I'm lucky if I get 100/100 which is fast, but considerably slower than before. Things I have tried are; reset network settings both in safe mode and not. Rebooted router and FIOS ONC. Disabled NOVA Launcher. Tried changing between 2.4ghz and 5ghz to see if it made a difference. Disabled WiFi, using cellular connection and everything works as intended, sometimes faster. Tested both Chrome and Firefox with same issues of lag. Anyone else having these issues after the update? Posted: 18 Dec 2019 06:42 PM PST Hi everyone. I'm following the official installation guide for LineageOS (https://wiki.lineageos.org/devices/fajita/install) on a Oneplus 6T, but I am unable to boot into TWRP. Everything works fine until the following section:
The commands themselves works without errors, but when booting up, the phone hangs at the 'bootloader unlocked' screen. I'm certain the fastboot-command is working properly, since I can boot the stock-ROM without any errors (both fastboot and persistant). The reason I'm not flashing to the recovery-partition is that the newer models doesn't have one. I've followed the same guide before, on the same phone, without any issues, and I've tried several versions of TWRP, both new and old ones, but I haven't tried other custom recoveries since I couldn't find any compatible with 6Ts. At this point I have no idea what the issue might be. I need your help! [link] [comments] |
How to get additional elements from one launcher to another for theme pack? Posted: 18 Dec 2019 06:47 PM PST So, I bought and downloaded a super cute theme pack for my tablet: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.gluck.tsfnextadwsmartmulti.theme.flower.butterfly Well, I'm using Nova launcher and I couldn't find the clock w/weather or the folder image. I emailed the Dev & he told me the clock was from the TSF launcher (which sounds really bad & super expensive also). He did not seem interested in helping me at all in trying to figure out how I could get the clock and the folder image, so my question is, is there anyway to get these from my downloaded theme? Wouldn't those elements be hiding in there somewhere? What clock widget would this be? Obviously I don't understand how these things work, it's very confusing, so I'm asking here if anyone could tell me how to get these? I don't mind paying for them, but I don't want to buy another launcher(s) just to get these. they are here: https://imgur.com/71AhKgG https://imgur.com/FjUTcu4 [link] [comments] |

Posted: 18 Dec 2019 10:12 PM PST So I noticed my phone was almost full on memory which made no sense to me because this phone doesn't take pictures or anything. I check my storage and under used memory there is 18.21gb of Others. However I have no idea what that is and when I connect my phone to my computer I can't find where that 18.21gb is. I have no idea how to clear it out. Please help. Thank you. [link] [comments] |
How to extend OnePlus Zen Mode beyond an hour? Posted: 18 Dec 2019 02:33 PM PST Love OnePlus Zen Mode, but it only lets you lock your phone down for an hour. I want to extend it to something like six hours for when I sleep – too often I use my phone to check the time and end up scrolling thru feeds for the next ten minutes. Is there a way to do this or a good replacement app? [link] [comments] |
I feel like switching to IOS... but then I don't Posted: 18 Dec 2019 09:33 PM PST Hey All - Firstly, I've spent probably over 100 hours spinning my wheels on this, and its freaking ridiculous for something as insignificant as a phone choice. Work pays for my phone and I can get either flagship Samsung or Apple phones. I've been with Samsung since the S4 and currently have an S9. I'm up for renewal in 5 months. My friend loaned me his old iPhone 10 XR and I've been thinking about switching to IOS for the following reasons:
In trying it I've found I'm slower with it, notifications aren't as nice, Siri is a flaming pile of shit, etc. I'm torn, S10 or Iphone11... any insight to provide? [link] [comments] |
Will Samsung A70 work on Verizon family network? Posted: 18 Dec 2019 09:06 PM PST I'm planning to buy a new android phone, ideally between $250-350. I liked the features in A70. But I'm not sure if it'll work on my family's Verizon plan. [link] [comments] |
Anyway to enable to lock screen roaming clock in airplane mode? Posted: 18 Dec 2019 09:02 PM PST I don't think I have international text or calls, so I keep my phone on airplane mode. But I really found the roaming clock to be super useful and cool. Is there anyway to enable it whilst keeping my phone in airplane mode? [link] [comments] |

Random momentary app closure and phone hangup noise? Posted: 18 Dec 2019 08:32 PM PST So i was watching youtube and suddenly the screen decreased in size and turned black, exactly as it does when youre about to recieve a call, but immediately i definitively heard the fb messenger hangup noise and the screen returned. All this in probably less than a second. So I checked to see if I had records of a missed call or a call I sent out, and there was nothing at all today. I checked what other apps I had open and none capable of making calls were anywhere near the front of the stack as they would be if theyd been recently used. As an anxious person, this unsettled me. Does anyone know what this might have been? [link] [comments] |
How do I disable notification sounds for all apps except one? Posted: 18 Dec 2019 04:46 PM PST I want text messages to play a sound, but I want every other notification to be silent. Device: OnePlus 6 OS: OxygenOS 9.0.9 (based on Android 9) Rooted: No [link] [comments] |
Is there a Work Profile equivalent for end-users? Posted: 18 Dec 2019 10:40 AM PST Long story short: I just started a new job that uses the G-suite, but it's a small simple IT department. So, they don't have device management setup for users. However, I really liked having an entirely separate profile on my phone for work apps (that one button vacation mode, tho!), while also being able to stay logged into the phone as one user. (I looked at adding a new user to the phone to separate stuff, but you have to completely log out of each user to switch back and forth. That's too much work.) I'm just wondering if there are any options for replicating this experience on my side of things, within my realm of control. I would rather not have my work email and calendar and contacts muddled in with my personal ones, if I can help it all. I'm also open to your favorite non-Google email and calendar apps that play well with Google. Thanks in advance! **EDIT** You have to manually clone apps into the Work Profile space from each app (Can't use the work profile Play Store), but they seem to work well (I went with Shelter, but they seem equally functional for what I need). My experience with OnePlus customer support - Awful Posted: 18 Dec 2019 11:29 AM PST I cannot believe how awful this company's customer service is. I practically have no other recourse but to share my experience with all of you, and every single other platform I can possibly post a review on. I have never been more dissatisfied a company's customer care or resolutions to a problem. THIS isn't a budget phone, it was $800. Rewind 6 months. I purchase my OP7 Pro directly from OnePlus, unlocked. Phone is great for maybe a month. I start experiencing signal drop shortly after using it. Before you tell me it's my carrier, I originally had an AT&T sim in the phone. Issues. Switched to T-Mobile. Still the same issues. I try network resets, and many other fixes. I still cannot reliably receive or place phone calls and texts TO THIS DAY. It'll be great for a day. Then the next day my girlfriend will get home and ask why I haven't answered her all day. Not to mention that I cannot reliably send and receive phone calls, my phone, upon restart, show a black screen. The phone is on. Making noises. But no display. I must force reboot it sometimes 3 times in a row to get my phone to work. Couple this with numerous Bluetooth issues - drops, 10 second delays, and outright refusal to work sometimes. I am tired of this crap. This is regardless of Android version - Android 9, 10, etc. I have experienced a plethora of issues not even listed - but these 3 above are enough to be deal breaking. Factory Resets. Different Versions. Disabling VOLTE. Disabling WiFi calling. Tons of other tries, no resolution. I Call and complain once. I'm told "A Supervisor will contact you". I wait 4 days. NOTHING. I call back obviously and when I voice my concerns, I'm told there's practically nothing they will do for me. I REALLY WANTED TO LOVE THIS PHONE. I enjoy(ed) using it so much. But I literally cannot even use it how it's intended, as a damn phone or even a media player. I'm not sending my phone in for repair and waiting 2-3 weeks to receive a repair that won't fix anything. It's junk software. Also I cannot be without a phone. Apple may not be the best company to reference, but any time I have had ground breaking issues, they take care of me AND they actually have a damn store. Even out of warranty. I DO NOT want a replacement. I DO NOT want to deal with this junk company again. I WILL be going back to Samsung or Apple, not this joke of a company. And I could live with it, if they would just take care of me like a customer that paid them nearly $800. But they treat it like a joke. Goodbye OnePlus, you will never get another dollar or recommendation from me or my family. [link] [comments] |
Is it possible to run both split screen apps at once? Posted: 18 Dec 2019 07:45 PM PST I love split screen, it's an amazing feature, but is basically useless to me as is. When i click on one app, the other stops running so I have to click back on it to see updates or anything. With a lot of apps I use, this makes it impossible to multitask like it was advertised to be able to do. Is there any fix for this? To have both apps running side by side? Is there an app that can do this? I have a Galaxy s10+. [link] [comments] |
How can I avoid aquiring charges overseas? Posted: 18 Dec 2019 06:53 PM PST I do not know the specifics of my plan, but assume that I have the most restrictive one in the world. I have turned mobile data off, but I am still receiving texts. Am I being charged for those SMS texts? Do I need to turn airplane mode on to avoid all charges? Is there a way to keep the local time/home time lock screen clock with airplane mode on lol? [link] [comments] |
Is there anyway to permanently delete on texts? Posted: 18 Dec 2019 12:36 PM PST I just got a new phone and whenever I get a new phone I like to migrate the last six months of texts or so of texts. When I had my Samsung Galaxy, I had the option to delete texts older than a year so I had no problem switching to my Google Pixel. Google, however, has taken the option to prune messages based on age out of the stock messages app so that now, as I try to migrate to my new OnePlus 7 Pro, I have some 272,000 text messages to move over. So my question is, is there a way for me to delete old texts so that I don't have to move them over? I tried going through the messages app and deleting conversations individually, but when I open OnePlus switch, it still registers all those messages as being on my phone. Then I tried to SafeWiper which was I thought was way too slow. Does anyone have any suggestions? [link] [comments] |

Posted: 18 Dec 2019 05:43 PM PST Hi there, I'm pretty new to android community, coming from jail broken iOS and expected a bit more from default system... Though I'd not have to jailbreak my device anymore to get what I want, but here we are ... Got Nokia 7.1 model TA-1100 running Android 10. I'm using Ubuntu as my main device. The question is can I root it? In case I can, how? Thanks all for help and merry Xmas hohoho [link] [comments] |
Hi it’s me again the annoying iOS user that jumped the fence Posted: 18 Dec 2019 05:21 PM PST First of all I would like to thank you all for your time and expertise on my first post I am aware that I may have put some things in my first post that weren't questions and I apologise for that I just had a few more questions and some other things to say Ok so some things I would like to say first This is a great sub , this might seem strange to say but I tried asking in other places and the people were crazy there so I appreciate not being chased out because 'you chose your side' you guys are some of the nicest people I've talked to in a long time about this I don't have much I can offer but my heart felt thanks to you all Ok now that's out of the way into the questions 1 : in my last post some of you mentioned programs to update my galaxy note edge to the newer versions of android I would like to experience all that android offers so any links to those are very much appreciated ? 2 again in my last post you said one of the main things you didn't like about iOS is the lack of customisation now I'm far to anxiously try anything like that on I running system I'm not so familiar with but what sort of things can you customise ? I will sneak around this sub coming and going like Bigfoot sightings oh and if you wanna talk about other things I have a discord pm me for it Have a great day everyone and have a merry Christmas or happy holidays [link] [comments] |
** Is there a way to boost reception of a wifi signal for my phone?? Posted: 18 Dec 2019 05:13 PM PST Since I can't do anything to boost the transmission strength of Comcast's city wide wifi, I am, wondering if there is something analogous to an old TV's rabbit ears to boost the wifi reception on my phone. I think I'm in the only place in town with a super weak signal. Before you say it, no I don't have a computer at this location so I can't connect to its wifi. [link] [comments] |

How to spoof apps into seeing device as another device? Posted: 18 Dec 2019 09:01 AM PST Hey there, I was hoping to trick some apps into seeing my device as a pixel 3 or newer. I have a rooted device and read somewhere previously that this is possible. I just can not find this information anywhere for some reason. Anyone have any idea of what I could be looking for? Thanks!
