    I found a laptop these specifics: (HP 14S-DQ100NH 14"FHD)

    • Intel i5 1035G1
    • 8 GB DDR4
    • 512 GB SSD
    • Intel UHD Graphics

Is this a good laptop for me? Im thinking about Asus Zenbook UX333FA too and Im also open for any other recommends like these.

    Thanks for the help!

Asus Zephyrus S GX502 vs Acer Predator Triton 500, worth the money?

    Posted: 11 Dec 2019 11:29 PM PST

So, I'm looking to buy a new gaming laptop. I once had one in the past, but that was a long time ago and have used a desktop since. For portability reasons I want a laptop now. Therefore, I want one that's light, but powerful enough for gaming (things like AC odyssey, origins, Witcher III, RPG mostly, I don't do shooters), but also for some video / photo editing. Battery life is not a factor for me, I won't be away from sockets much, but I do find it important that it stays as cool as a laptop can. I'm not worried if it makes noise while doing so.

Currently I've narrowed it down to the Acer Predator Triton 500 and the Asus Zephyrus S GX502. The latter mostly because I've heard it does cooling well. In my country, the versions I'm looking at, have pretty much the same specs:

    • Intel® Core™ i7-9750H
    • 1TB SSD
    • NVIDIA RTX 2060
    • 16GB RAM
    • IPS panels (although 240hz for asus, 144 for acer)
    • Both metal bodies as far as I know

Both versions have their keyboards in the normal place. The only thing is, the Asus (2200 euros) is nearly 400 euros more expensive than the Acer (1800). It seems stupid to even consider the Asus and it's only due to previous good experiences with Asus and bad ones with Acer (broken hinge with an acer laptop in the past) that I'm considering it. Sadly, whilst I can look at the Acer physically, I can't check out the Asus prior to purchase.

Anyone know anything about the Asus? What it's good at / bad at? Or anyone have an idea why it might be 400 bucks more expensive?

Need help deciding on two laptops for college. LG Gram Vs X1 Carbon

    Posted: 11 Dec 2019 11:15 PM PST

I have been putting my effort into researching and looking at different lightweight notebooks for college. I need it for basic school work and no gaming. I am currently interested in the X1 carbon gen 7 as many people have recommended it to me. I have also been looking into the LG Gram due to its ultra low weight easy ability to upgrade or exchange the parts. i was recommend the dell latitudes as well but have no experience with any. I prioritize light weight, good keyboard and durability above all since im looking to keep my laptop for many years and take me through college.

I am currently trying to draw up a decision on the LG Gram or the Thinkpad but im open to any other suggestions. Mainly i want to know if any LG Gram users have anything to say about its durability and ease of use and if any x1 carbon users have anything to say.

I recently found the LG Gram Laptop for $896 and with a 4 year protection plan it would be less than a thinkpad x1 carbon with base specs and 16 GB of ram with a 3 year extended warranty. What am I mainly missing out with the X1 Carbon if i pick the LG gram and vice versa?

I am open to used laptops but im worried about the longevity of used laptops as i want to last as long as possible.

    Thanks in advance

    - LG Gram 13.3" Full HD Touchscreen, Intel 8th Gen Core i5, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD

Nitro 7 or Evoo gaming ?

    Posted: 12 Dec 2019 02:48 AM PST

First ,sorry for not following the form but I do know what I want to buy. Infront of me are the Evoo gaming laptop from walmart and the Acer nitro 7 Both the same price 700$ Same specs i7 9th gen - gtx1650 Nitro 7 build quality is a bit better

The evoo has 144hz screen and 16gb of ram while the acer has 60hz screen and 8gb of ram (upgradable)

I will not be gaming that much on the laptop .mainly for graphic design ,video editing and CAD and both screens has the same color accuracy .

So, which one should I go for ?

Battery life is much better on the nitro (obviously) and because I love to be away from the charger for as long as possible that will be great .

Evoo has 68watt battery kit upgrade for 75$ but I don't want to buy extra stuff (maybe I will along the road)

And the most important stuff , when I'm going to sell it one day ,I suppose the acer will sell better .

So what do you guys think , the evoo is very tempting .

Thin and light for around 1000€

    Posted: 12 Dec 2019 02:25 AM PST

I am searching to replace my aging HP Spectre x360 13.3 inch (2017 with a rather unimpressive i5-7200U dual-core and 8GB of Ram)

I would prefer Ryzen (because Intel doesn't deserve this type of market share right now). From what I have seen the Ryzen 7 3700U seems to fit my needs well.
Ram would be 16 GB, Rom preferably 512 GB but if it is replaceable I don't care.

Usecase : working with plans / light photo editing / office / mails / web, most of the time all this at the same time. I need snappiness and battery life in a thin chassis (better if it looks good)

Not sure if a 15" inch would be a good idea, but why not if the bezels are really slim.

I need something for work which is easy to pick up and go. 2-in-1 with touch/stilus is a + but not an obligation.

    USB-C loading is a must...

For the moment I have settled on the envy x360 13 (or 15 maybe) which I could get in the desired configuration for around 900 with a microsoft surface pen (which should work). Anything better for the price I have overlooked ? I would love some insights of you guys, thanks !

    Student Laptop

    Posted: 11 Dec 2019 10:29 PM PST

Hello, I was a long term Apple Air (2015) user and am looking to move towards a higher resolution screen.

I am living in the United States, and have a budget from $400-$1000 and am looking to buy used. I am a student, and most of my applications include Microsoft Office, and Google Chrome. I currently own an Ipad Pro (3rd gen) so I am not looking for a 2-in-1.

I am looking for a lightweight/thin laptop, with a nice IPS screen (~1440p maybe?) and the best battery life (most similar to Macbook Air) A good keyboard/trackpad would be appreciated and so would be a very good performance throughout. I pretty much just want a similar version of the Air with better screen quality. I am not particular about either OS/Windows.

I do not game, and I probably wont be doing video editing or CAD anytime soon. I just need a no-frills laptop to get the job done. Screen size from 13"-15".

    Thank you for reading!

How is the variety in laptop keyboards? I am a programmer too used to mechanical ones but I still need a laptop

    Posted: 12 Dec 2019 01:25 AM PST

I have been holding off buying a laptop for too long. I decided to just pick one but when I gave them a try I my typing was like I just recovered from a coma. I am a fast typer on my PC, but I type like my parents on a laptop. The keyboards are also so small!

I was told all laptop keyboards are the same and wonder if that is true. I can't stand membrane ones. Are all laptops limited to lame keyboards or is there variety for us mechanical folks?

Searching for: 2 in 1 Laptop for Gaming and Art

    Posted: 12 Dec 2019 12:38 AM PST

A friend of mine is looking into purchasing a 2 in 1 Laptop that she can use both for gaming on the go as well as artistic pursuits. She wants to spend no more than $600 at absolute most but i'm at a loss searching something that meets her desires. Any suggestions?

Purchasing in the USA with total budget of between $400 and $500, upwards of $600 only if absolutely necessary.
She prefers the easy of portability of the 2-in-1 form, with something with decent battery life to stand up to gaming on the go or a few hours of drawing/sketching.
She has no preference in OS, though i'd be loathe to ever suggest Mac to anyone. Personal taste there though.
She'd prefer something that can at least run moderate settings for games, but understands that a device in her price range will likely limit her to low settings.

I need a computer that allows me to use a compiler like DevC, Maybe even put Linux in dualboot. Above all that allows me to do even a little multitaskingl, DevC, Google and YT for example running at the same time. 12gb ram, Intel i5 1035g1, FHD, 1,7Kg But I was also evaluating the Acer Swift 3 and the Asus vivobooks, but both are sold either with a ryzen 5 3500u or with Intel 8265u, 8gb ram ecc. How is HP posted by me? Is there anything better at 550 euros? I Need something that i can put easily in my bag. Thanks in advance

    Posted: 11 Dec 2019 07:57 PM PST

Total budget and country of purchase: under $1500, USA

Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Good battery life

How important is weight and thinness to you? Moderately

Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux. Windows or Mac

Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. 13-14" or so.

Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. Nothing fancy. Maybe the occasional casual game from Steam.. think Stardew Valley.

Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? Good keyboard and touchpad a must. Looking for SSD. Would like enough storage space for photos and occasional movie downloads. Finger print reader would be cool but certainly not a dealbreaker.

Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. For 9 years I've had a MacBook Air. It's done well for my needs which are basically managing a website, email/web browsing, some word processing, Skype, Netflix/movies, organizing/storing photos. I'm a bit overwhelmed at all the options out there and hope you all can help me out :) thank you!

Laptop for animation and editing ($1500)

    Posted: 11 Dec 2019 07:09 PM PST

What will you be doing with this PC? Be as specific as possible, and include specific games or programs you will be using.

    • This build will be primarily for video editing (Adobe Premiere, Photoshop, Lightroom), as well as motion graphics (Adobe After Effects) and 3d animation. I've been thinking of trying out Steam for PC gaming. Games include Portal, Tag, etc.

What is your maximum budget before rebates/shipping/taxes?

    • $1500-$2000USD

When do you plan on building/buying the PC? Note: beyond a week or two from today means any build you receive will be out of date when you want to buy.

    • About a week or two. A father figure of mine asked me what I wanted for Christmas.

    .

What, exactly, do you need included in the budget? (Tower/OS/monitor/keyboard/mouse/etc)

    • I'd like a minimalistic bluetooth mouse. The ability to edit 4k.

Which country (and state/province) will you be purchasing the parts in? If you're in US, do you have access to a Microcenter location?

    • I live in Connecticut; I have access to NY.

If reusing any parts (including monitor(s)/keyboard/mouse/etc), what parts will you be reusing? Brands and models are appreciated.

    • None; currently on a 2009 MacBook Pro.

Will you be overclocking? If yes, are you interested in overclocking right away, or down the line? CPU and/or GPU?

    • I'd be willing to learn, yes. ASAP.

Are there any specific features or items you want/need in the build? (ex: SSD, large amount of storage or a RAID setup, CUDA or OpenCL support, etc)

    • Generous storage would be nice; big boi SSD. That, a 15-17 in. screen and good RAM capability.

Do you have any specific case preferences (Size like ITX/microATX/mid-tower/full-tower, styles, colors, window or not, LED lighting, etc), or a particular color theme preference for the components?

    • Silver case with a yellow/orange keyboard LED would be sweet.

Do you need a copy of Windows included in the budget? If you do need one included, do you have a preference?

    • Yes.

    Extra info or particulars:
    Thanks a lot; much appreciated.

Second hand MacBook Air or a brand new laptop?

    Posted: 11 Dec 2019 04:45 PM PST

    * **Total budget and country of purchase:*\* Budget around €500-600. Country of purchase: Germany

    * **Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply.*\* 2 in 1 isn't a must although it would be nice to have but I need a good battery life for sure.

    * **How important is weight and thinness to you?*\* VERY

    * **Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux.*\* I always had Windows so far, with some occasional work-related Mac experience.

    * **Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.*\* Max 14-inch.

    * **Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.*\* Nothing really special apart from VS Code Editor

    * **If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?*\* More like The Sims and stuff.

    * ** Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.*\* I'm a college student so I'll be using it mostly for my studies which includes programming. The problem is my commute is way too long and I cannot carry around a 4-kg laptop with case, charger, mouse etc anymore. I would like it to be as light as possible but also need something quite durable as I won't be able to spend so much money again on a laptop for a long time. And I'm stuck in between buying a used MacBook Air and a brand new laptop. I know the budget isn't the best but I need something really urgent so...

Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. \ Basic Photoshop, video editing, and lightroom. No gaming.

Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. Will prefer something that can be upgradable in future. I was partial towards Asus Zenbook 13 but have heard of track pad issues.

    i5-9300H vs. i7-9750H for Photoshop/Lightroom

    Posted: 11 Dec 2019 04:15 PM PST

Hi, looking to get a XPS 15 for wedding photography work. Can the i5 handle photo editing? Main usage is lightroom with some photoshop work. I will be getting the i5 with 8GB of RAM and probably upgrading it myself afterwards (to the Crucial 16GB RAM).

    Thanks for your help!

Need 17" with good sound and SSD

Looking for a 17" 1920x1080 with good sound, SSD, but don't need a lot of horsepower, RAM, or discrete graphics. The person using this will largely be surfing the web and watching videos. Suggestions?

Every laptop I've ever owned has had a crappy touch pad. What are some laptops that have great ones?

    Posted: 11 Dec 2019 09:35 PM PST

Bunch of HP's low end shit. Toshiba netbook. A Dell that wasn't half bad but the plastic frame work gave out on the screen. A surface 2 laptop that okay. All of them had shitty touch pads.

    Deciding on a Gaming laptop

    Posted: 11 Dec 2019 03:36 PM PST

Hi I've been doing some research and looking around and I've come down to a few different options and I just am not sure what the real differences are between them or if there is clearly one that stands above the other.

Overall appearance / weight doesn't really matter to me, I'm more concerned with performance / overheating.

Any advice is appreciated. I would mainly be playing WoW Classic and Retail but also some other games as well. I would also be running discord at the same time or maybe a hockey game in the background. thanks.

Price range is anywhere in the 800-1200 mark Canadian.
