Is the FHD screen on MSI Prestige 15 any good? Posted: 29 Nov 2019 10:50 PM PST I'm worried the FHD screen on the prestige 15 will look subpar as it's matte and 1080p on a 15 inch laptop. I'm worried it'll be dim and grainy this was my experience with other matte screens. Is this the case or is it good? [link] [comments] |
Alternatives to MSI PS63? Wanting to broaden my options before making the buy! Posted: 30 Nov 2019 02:40 AM PST Hey guys, basically i'm looking for a new laptop that can handle heavy Photoshop editing with no issues and some light gaming. Has to be relatively thin and light as I bring my laptop to school occasionally. Screen has to be 15 inch or under. My budget is set at $1000. Was recommended the PS63 by MSI which is on sale at $900 and the specs looks really good, but I just thought I should broaden my options with a few more alternatives before making a purchase as I don't change laptops often. Please advise. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 29 Nov 2019 11:42 PM PST Laptop for girlfriend I'm looking to buy a laptop for my girlfriend for her to play some games on. She plays sims 4 (with all the expansion/game packs plus custom content) and also wants to play planet coaster and planet zoo. I've looked at so many laptops but can't decide what would be best suited for this. She wouldn't be using it for much else - surfing the internet, watching Netflix and maybe using word etc occasionally. Ideally I'd like to spend less than £1000 if that's possible Thank you! Need a laptop with a great display and a good battery for taking notes and writing essays! Posted: 30 Nov 2019 02:45 AM PST Total budget and country of purchase: around €1000. Will be buying the product in the Netherlands. Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply. Good battery life and display are my priorities. How important is weight and thinness to you? Very important. I will be lugging this thing around with me very often, and would like it to be as lightweight as possible. Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux. no real preferrence. I mostly use Google drive for my notes and essays, and I'm pretty sure torrenting can be done on all of those. I'm curious to try out Linux, with that said. Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. 12-14 inch. Ideally 13inch. I'm gonna be reading on this thing a lot, and so would like a very high quality screen as a result. Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. No gaming or intense editing. Will be using the laptop primarily for reading pdfs in the library and for writing notes and essays, although with regards to the latter, I am more than happy to buy a keyboard for home use if the laptop's isn't too great. Looking for something quiet in terms of noise too. If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? Nope. Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? I want a good display, ideally better than FHD if there's something within my price range, and a good battery life. Sometimes I have classes for 6 hours straight and do not have access to a socket. Thus, a good keyboard would also be great, but that is of less importance than the first two requirements. Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. I've been thinking about either a ThinkPad because of the student discount, but the batter and display seem to be a bit of a let down, or a MacBook air, because it really kills in terms of battery and display. Peace and love, and thanks in advance. [link] [comments] |
Laptop for programming? (No gaming at all) Posted: 30 Nov 2019 02:36 AM PST I'm going to college next month with computer programming as my course. I've struggled with gaming addiction so gaming performance is completely arbitary. Only thing I want to know is how much load and efficiency a laptop should have for programming, is it even a factor of hindrance in work or just a matter of lesser time taken? Don't wanna go too expensive or too cheap as a matter of fact to regret my buying choices. [link] [comments] |

Pick or include any that apply.** i5 8300H/i5 9300H and GTX 1650 if possible, everything else doesn't really matter * **How important is weight and thinness to you?** 3 kg at most if possible * **Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux.** Windows * **Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.** N/A * **Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.** Only gaming; games like CIV 5, HOI 4, Skyrim, Fallouts (excluding FO76) * **If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?** Medium settings at 60 fps is enough for me, games as stated above * **Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?** Would be more than happy if all stated above would be more than acceptable * **Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.** I've looked at Dell G3, Lenovo Ideapad L340 but can't quite make the decision, I hope you can give me some advice [link] [comments] |
Suggest a laptop for a someone in the US with a budget of under $1000. Posted: 29 Nov 2019 10:42 PM PST Best specifications for the money is my first priority. 2 in 1 form factor is not important. A good battery life would be nice. Weight and thinness is very important. I plan on using this while traveling out of a backpack. For an OS I like windows but I will probably also partition it to run Linux. Indifferent to screen size. Only CAD I might potentially do is some basic circuit layout stuff. Might do a bit of video editing but not a lot. I am not big into gaming. I play some RTS games like civ but being able to run this well is not super important to me. No specific requirements other than usb and hdmi drives (or some other way to connect to another monitor). This will be used for travel a lot where it'll be carried in a backpack and shoved in a plane so a good build is a must. I do a lot of coding in programs like visual studio and visual studio code as well as other IDE's. I've been learning app development in my free time. I'm start a new research program working on machine learning in computer vision. I'll do this in python. I Do a lot of MATLAB. A computer that can handle all these coding programs and have enough processing power to not get bogged down is a must. I'm open to refurbished laptops. In summary the best I can get for my money that can handle the coding work I'm doing and be good for travel. [link] [comments] |
Long time lurker, first time poster Posted: 29 Nov 2019 04:43 PM PST * **Total budget and country of purchase:** About $1500 USD * **Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply.** I'd prefer at least 4-6 hours of battery life. I don't want a 2 in one and would like the best specs I can get for my budget.* **How important is weight and thinness to you?** Not too important, but the lighter the better. * **Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux.** Windows * **Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.** Would prefer anywhere from 13 to 15.6 inches * **Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run** I'm the kinda guy that leaves 50 web tabs open at once lol. Other than that I would like to stream alot of video to it but only play a few light games. I will also likely want to use it for video/photo editing in the future, and I'd also like to run FL studio. *If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?** Only light flash games and maybe some minecraft, so intense settings or fps isn't too important. * **Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?** Reliable build quality and good keyboard is preferable, but I don't want a touch screen and don't care if it has a fingerprint reader. I would prefer an optical drive if possible but I know that will probably limit my choices so its nonessential. I'd prefer at least 3 usb ports as well.* **Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.** I'd like it to last around four years. I'd also prefer the fan to not take off like a helicopter whenever I'm streaming two things at once or have it heat up to surface of the sun temperatures like my last laptop lol. * [link] [comments] |

Posted: 29 Nov 2019 04:22 PM PST Hello, I've been dipping my toes in the water thinking of upgrading my laptop. Finally decided to pull the trigger today. HP 15-DY1095OD today for the i7-1065G7 processor and 16 gb ram. It claims 10 hours of battery life, but I'm skeptical. My second option was Lenovo Flex 14. $100 cheaper and I like the touch screen option, but the Ryzen 5 3500U and 12 gb ram are a bit of a downgrade. Also worried the battery life isn't as advertised. I'm looking to use the laptop for some online classes and eventually programming. I may want to throw solid works on the computer too. I'd appreciate any thoughts! Thank you.
