Posted: 23 Nov 2019 02:42 AM PST Hello, My gaming laptop recently died on me (Toshiba Qosmio X870-116) and I've been looking for a new one since then. I think it might be the motherboard but no certainty on my side. My issue is that there're so many options, and quite frankly I barely know anything about gaming laptops. I'm limited budget wise, so that's why I'm asking for your help. I would like a 17-inch for $2300 top max, which is difficult to find in France. As long as it is as performing as my laptop (Toshiba Qosmio X870-116) I will be content. Obviously better would be... better, but I know that it might be unrealistic for my price range. Or last resort I can change the motherboard for a $100, but again no certainty that it would fix it. Thank you! [link] [comments]

Posted: 23 Nov 2019 02:53 AM PST Hi, I love gaming but was never able to buy anything worth a dam. I finally am and I am buying a gaming laptop, because I am never in one place. Can you guys help me determine which of these is better? They are all around 1080 euros, so my second question is are they worth their money?
Or are there any other better for their worth on the page: https://www.sancta-domenica.hr/racunala-i-periferija/prijenosna-racunala.html?cat=992&luceed_lr_ekran_rezolucija=6242&product_list_limit=48 [link] [comments]

Posted: 23 Nov 2019 02:16 AM PST I'm looking for a laptop for software development and trying to nab something good around Black Friday. I dropped my ASUS N551VW a while ago and it has been having issues with the hinges for a while, to the extent that I had to drill through the top lid in order to mount the hinge to it. Apart from that I've been very happy with it. My laptop's specs are: Intel Core i7-6700HQ, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960M, 16 GB RAM, Samsung SSD 850 EVO 500GB What I'd really like is something that would be a good step up from that (8th or even 9th gen i7), with 32 GB RAM as I usually have multiple VMs running and a NVMe SSD. Gaming is not a priority, so even a meh video card would be fine. My budget is up to a max of €1500. The one I currently have my sights set on is the Lenovo Legion Y540 (Intel Core i7-9750H (2.60/4.50 GHz,12M), 32 GB, 1TB M.2 NVMe SSD, NVIDIA GTX 1660 Ti 6GB GDDR6) for around €1400. Any feedback on the Legion? How bulky is it? What is the build quality? Or suggestions for a better deal? EDIT: Forgot to mention - I'd also be on board with a strong AMD laptop, as long as the specs are comparable and the price difference makes it worthwhile. [link] [comments]
UK, £1500-1700, programming, casual gaming Posted: 23 Nov 2019 02:13 AM PST
£1500-1700, UK
No 2 in 1. Best specs for the money, but decent battery life important too.
Ideally would prefer <2.5kg, thinness not too important.
Windows, or Windows + Linux dual boot.
15-16".
Nothing in particular.
Medium-high graphics @60fps for latest AAA games, though no particular games in mind.
Good keyboard, reliable build quality, IPS screen.
Mostly been looking at Dell XPS 15 laptops and Asus ROG. Suggestions on where to get laptops from welcome, not too familiar with electronics shops in the UK. Would strongly prefer not to order from Amazon. [link] [comments]

Electronics Engineering student needs you help! Posted: 23 Nov 2019 01:32 AM PST * **Total budget and country of purchase:** 1000€ - 1500€ (Italy) * **Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply.** No 2 in 1, best specifications for the money for sure. Durability is also very important for me, not replacing it any time soon. NOT looking for a gaming laptop. Capable of mid heavy work load. * **How important is weight and thinness to you?** 7/10 * **Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux.** Windows, Ubuntu * **Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.** N/A * **Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.** Matlab, Simulink, Eagle, Wireshark, KiCad, some CAD, Visual studio code, no video editing, little to no gaming * **If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?** Very casual gamer * **Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?** Durability, build quality, good keyboard/touchpad * **Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.** Since i'm not willing to change it any time soon, i'm opting for a great performing, durable laptop. Aesthetics do matter, no gaming laptop. Was looking at the Dell XPS but some bad reviews I've read are stuck in my mind. Thank you! [link] [comments]
USA $1400-$1600 eGPU capable, portable, powerful ultrabook Posted: 22 Nov 2019 09:40 PM PST
USA $1400-$1600
Best specs for the money. 2 in 1 would be nice if its a 13", otherwise it doesn't matter.
Important, looking for portability, will give a small bit up for cooling requirements though.
Windows
13"-15"
Programming with multiple Visual Studio instances and running programs. Gaming on the go would be limited to nothing more intense than Hearthstone. I want to replace my desktop though, and would like a machine capable of running on an eGPU at home.
On the go, Hearthstone at 60fps. At home with an eGPU, any/everything. Halo and Cyberpunk are my next planned games, highest possible fps.
Top 1 requirement for the eGPU is 4 pcie lanes for the thunderbolt 3 port(s). Keyboard and touchpad should be as good as possible too.
Currently leaning toward the late 2019 refresh of the HP Spectre X360 with the 4k OLED screen and 500-1tb of storage. I also like the gem cut design. The Asus Zenbook with its hk processor seems like a good option as well, as it may provide a better gaming experience when combined with an eGPU? Finally the MSI Prestige 14 has been getting a lot of hype on some subreddits, and it looks pretty solid overall. My goal with this purchase is to replace my desktop. I want to have something powerful enough for programming on the go, as well as something powerful enough that I can plug an eGPU into and run the latest titles. Looking for an all-purpose laptop [PH, 60,000 PHP] Posted: 23 Nov 2019 01:00 AM PST So my birthday is coming up and I've asked for a laptop. My current desktop is more than fine but I'm moving somewhere for school and I'll probably need something portable.
Preferably Philippines, <PHP 60,000 or approx. ~800 USD (taking into account the higher prices here, which is something like 40-50% more). I could get from the UAE as long as it has international warranty (more or less 4000 AED), but local is preferred. Also I plan to get this whenever there's a good sale, so discounts are possible.
Form factor doesn't matter. Battery life should be good enough. Best specs for the money, yes, as long as nothing is sacrificed.
Not at all
Windows
14 inches, though I can look at 13. 15 seems a bit unwieldy
Yes, I do gaming. I'll probably also have to use CAD or some other similar program in college (I plan to take up engineering), but it's not a big must, I just want to know.
The Sims 4 and Stellaris, and possibly similar games. Preferably max settings or otherwise runs flawlessly.
I do want it to be durable, or otherwise not break when the corners are hit. As for ports, maybe something with HDMI and USB-C charging? Maybe Ethernet as well to be sure?
I've decided on the specs: CPU: At least i5/Ryzen 5 Storage: At least 512 SSD RAM: At least 8GB Graphics: Dedicated, must handle the above games Otherwise, I've seen plenty of good laptops with the specs I'm looking for (Zenbook, Envy 13, Lenovo S540). Even the 10th Gen Intel laptops look really good and are perfect for my budget. I'm considering a Thinkpad too, though I'm not sure of its availability. The only question is which laptop is the best overall, so I don't get buyer's remorse. Thanks in advance! [link] [comments]
Dell G3 or The HP Pavilion 15 Gaming? Posted: 23 Nov 2019 12:52 AM PST Before I start, I know some of you will ask "What about the Acer Nitro 5?" I haven't really had a good experience with Acer. Now to the main part. So I'm looking at these two laptops which are the Dell G3 (not the 2019 variant, the 2018 one.) and the HP Pavilion 15 Gaming. Both look nice, but I wanted to ask Reddit which one in your opinion is better. My old Dell Inspiron 7559 broke after one of the hinges popped off. (I should also add my budget is $500-$650.) (I don't have a lot of money to afford a top-of-the-line gaming laptop.) So maybe you people can recommend another laptop? (Other than the Acer Nitro 5.) If it helps to know what games I play, I play games like Minecraft, Roblox, City Car Driving, Maybe sometimes Fortnite. I might do some video editing also. But I probably won't be playing the newest graphic demanding AAA titles. I'll also probably use the Box it came in so it doesn't sit on Fabric and possibly Overheat or get Very Hot. I don't really know what else I should add. Thanks for helping. [link] [comments]
Posted: 23 Nov 2019 12:48 AM PST Hey! Looking for advice on best of both digital art and gaming for a 2 in 1 Posted: 22 Nov 2019 11:36 PM PST I have been looking for several hours for a couple days in a row (I'm not proud of it) and with little to no idea of what works best for me. I've been through every brand and almost every pen enabled device. I've even considered the iPad Pro 3rd gen but that lacks a lot of software that Windows 10 2 in 1's would have. Though it supposedly has the most responsive pen with almost no jitter. My price range is anywhere up to $2000 though I'd lean more towards the $1000-$1500 range. My main interest when it comes to a 2 in 1 are preferably 4k IPS or 4k OLED but I am willing to make compromises. I am not too concerned about battery life. Honestly 5h or longer is fine for me. The HP Spectre X360 15t w/GTX 1650 is my reference point for when it comes to the internals to price ratio. I've seen a lot of devices with an Nvidia GTX 1050 and AMD Vega GPU's which both fall below the performance of the 1650. I prefer a dedicated GPU such as the GTX 1650. I would like something with a good amount of screen relestate as it comes to digital illustration. Edge to edge or infinity edge would be great. One big reason I am posting here is that I can't find a reliable source to tell me which one out of the very many 2 in 1's / tablets has the best pen experience. I am looking for something with the most responsiveness and least jitter. Digital illustration is a huge reason I am looking for a 2 in 1. Overall I'm looking for advice on what would provide the best illustrative experience when it comes to in depth detailing and shading but still have enough power to play games at med settings. That's why I use the X360 as my base for reference. So my question is what device provides the best experience between these circumstances? And yes, I know that the Microsoft Surface Book 2 is the answer to all of my problems. EXCEPT the model I'd prefer is very expensive and I don't know if it has a very good pen experience as I've stated above. Any help on deciding what to get for my needs and what I should compromise on would be great. I love to hear the experience of people who have had these kinds of devices as well. Thanks in advance! Looking for a laptop for my girlfriend. Posted: 22 Nov 2019 11:32 PM PST Hey all, my girlfriend wants a laptop, and was looking at some refurbished macbooks. I'm strictly a desktop PC user and want her to get better value for her money than a refurbished, outdated, soon to be no longer supported by apple laptop. Anyway, I'll fill out the form and hopefully you have some insight for me. Thanks!
All in all she's not that picky. I just want to make sure this is a laptop that she'll get years of use out of. She'll be using it for her business, which would be one on one use in front of her clients. (For scheduling, waivers, and as a way to teach new clients about the services she offers.) And no customer likes to hear "Sorry my computer is being slow". I think it should be pretty snappy and stay that way for a long time. My biggest asks are; Solid CPU, something that wont feel outdated in a year or two. 6th gen i5 or i7 or newer would be great. Either something that comes with an SSD, and 8gb+ of ram, or something I can easily throw a new SSD and ram into. Refurbished is fine, if it means getting some premium specs and keeping in her budget. Thanks in advance for the help! [link] [comments]

Futureproof/long lasting > fast, can run multiple programs and databases smoothly > good battery > thin/light (lots of traveling) Would 8gb ram be enough? Should I aim for 16gb? Which components should I focus on? Feel free to ask any questions. I really appreciate the assistance! [link] [comments]
$2500-3500 budget for a student. Must be Dell or Mac Posted: 22 Nov 2019 09:14 PM PST
$2500-3500, if necessary willing to pay more
best specs for the money
not very, however if possible it would be a plus
Would prefer Windows. However if my limitations mean that a Mac would be a better choice then willing to switch.
15 or 17
photoshop and illustrator would be the limit of editing.
No games at the moment. However I would like a pretty decent future-proof gpu in case I decide to pick up anything.
Has to be a Dell or a Mac. Would like good build quality and good thermals when running games.
Unfortunately my company will only pay for offerings from Dell or Mac. I'm a long-time Windows user so I would prefer that but looking at the Dell site I'm not entirely sure what would be the best move. If you guys think the new Macbook pro would fit my needs more adequately I would be amenable to switching. [link] [comments]
Media Work Laptop in the $600 to $1,000 range; 1080p; user accessible (USA) Posted: 22 Nov 2019 09:10 PM PST
Total Budget: Preferabely $800, ideally $600, but I am willing to go slightly over $1,000 Country of Purchase: USA
I would prefer the best specifications/performance/value for the money
Weight: Weight is not that important to me, so long as it is not extremely heavy. Thinness: Thinness/Thickness is not that important to me, so long as it can fit in a bag that can hold a laptop.
Preferred Operating System: Windows
Preferred Screen Size: 1920x1080 (or higher) at 60Hz
I put "Media work", as it is geared towards media in general, but that includes Video Editing, Audio Editing, Image Editing, and some Programming. It is not intended as my primary computer, although I would like to be able to use it for some work if I needed to. I am most certain that the laptop I get will not be able to use some of these programs to their fullest extent, but I would still like to be able to open programs and do some minor work as needed. In the past I was able to do so on a laptop I had, so hopefully there is no problem with the today versions of these programs:
I will not necessarily "game" on it, but I might play a game on it at times. I understand that it will most likely not be able to play the game at maximum settings, but should be adequate enough to handle it on medium settings at 720p/1080p. Most of the games that I have/player are older ones (i.e. Doom II, Half-Life 2, Garrysmod), but I do have some newer games such as Resident Evil 2, Devil May Cry 5, and Apex Legends. I also like to get onto VR chat every now and then, and certainly a newer laptop should have no issues with that game. I am also interested in the Master Chief Collection, so anything that can handle some matches of Halo 2 and 3.
Adding onto what I said earlier about what I would prefer:
And that should be all.
The last laptop I owned had the following specs:
I remember this laptop costing me about $400 back in 2013. I remember it being able to play many games at the time with no issues, even if not at maximum settings (i.e. Dead Space 3, King of Fighters XIII, Sonic Generations, etc.). I remember playing VR Chat on it every once in awhile and it actually worked okay, but one day the game would not let me log on because it decided my graphics card was not supported. For Media Work (i.e. video editing, image editing, audio editing), it also worked for what I needed at the time, which was simple. I do have a desktop computer with much higher spec'd hardware, so anything more intense gets done on that; while the laptop was able to do some minor trimming and compositing and exporting at 1080p without many issues (although it would take some time to render). I have done some research already, but I am at an impass as to what laptop I should go with. Here are a few that I have considered:
The Thinkpad E595 does not appear to have a dedicated GPU. From what I have looked into (and I could be very wrong), unless I order it with two sticks of ram and an SSD, it will not include the ability to add those at a later time. I will most likely not be going with the Thinkpad, but it is one I had looked at. The Asus TUF appears to have the best specs of the three, as it has a Ryzen 3750H CPU and a Nvidia GTX 1650 GPU. One thing that I have seen from photos of it, is it does not appear to have a USB-C port. I do not know if that is going to be a deal breaker or not yet. The Acer Nitro 5 appear to have good performance for the price, as it is cheaper than the ASUS TUF, and while not as powerful, should do an adeuqate job. It looks like it has a USB-C port, which might be useful. For those three laptops, they all appear to be a similar size to the one that I had previously, which, if I recall correctly, had a size of 15.6". Either one of those will probably fit in the bag that I already have. While it may primarily be used as a laptop for times when I am not at a desktop computer, I do want the ability to "dock" it and use with an external keyboard, mouse, and monitor(s). It looks like there are laptop docks which do thise over USB, primarily USB-C. The only thing that I have not been able to find out, however, is if performance is the same when using one, and how reliable these docks are. If a dock is not really meant for this/works as intended, would I be able to close the lid on the laptop and still use it while it is connected to a couple monitors (and in that sense, is there some time of HDMI splitter that would work)? Those laptops I did look at all happen to use AMD CPU's. I am open to Intel CPU's, but the Ryzen processors look good as well. What is your recommendation? Thanks [link] [comments]
