I've seen a lot of arguing about it and honestly it was worrying me when I had my issue. My screen literally fell out of the bezel and stopped working. I was dumbfounded. However now that I look back it seems like the adhesive may have weakened due to the laptop spending a decent amount of time in my trunk during summer temperatures.

Anyway I was pretty upset about it naturally. 1 TB SSD and a 2070. It was right around 2k USD so I was pretty concerned. I emailed them about it and they got back to me with the details. Basically pack it up nicely and use their label. I did that and had UPS pack it up to be sure it was protected.

My only issue at the start was they didn't confirm they received it. I looked at the tracking number and saw that it had been delivered so I asked them to confirm which they did. They also didn't really keep me up to date on the status I had to ask about that as well. They said the screen was ok, that it had come unplugged when it fell. They said they put new adhesive on it and everything was looking good. By now you'll know I had to ask if it had been shipped back. They said yes. And then I had to ask for the tracking number. Which they gave. Lol. Those tiny things were a little annoying but the laptop is in perfect condition again so far.

I think going forward it won't be spending time in hot temperatures longer than a few minutes. But I wanted everyone to know that not everything is terrible with them. But at the same time it does seem like it matters a lot who you're dealing with. I will update this if things go south.

    Laptop suggestion for work

    Posted: 09 Oct 2019 12:29 AM PDT

    Hi Redditors,

I need a new laptop for work and I can chose between following devices. I need a bit of power as I am working with large text files (large Excel, CSV, JSON, XML, etc.), otherwise just normal office and web stuff with two additional monitors. I do not like very heavy machines as the MS Surface as I need to be mobile with it. The Macbook Pro would be an optimal device (I use a Macbook Pro 13" 2015 at home), but I am used to Windows at work so I probably favour these devices.

Do you have any suggestion for me?

    • Dell XPS 13
    • Dell XPS 15
    • MS Surface 13
    • MS Surface 15
    • Dell Insprion 13 7000
    • Macbook Pro
    • Lenovo Yoga
    • X1 Carbon

**Total budget and country of purchase:**

Germany, no budget limitation, but above models.

    * **Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply.**

    I prefer good battery life

    Important

Windows, but Mac is not out of question

13", but 15" ist not out of question

    * **Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.**

    No

    * **If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?**

    * **Total budget and country of purchase:**

Open to a system under $3500 but don't want to pay for things I really don't need, Based in the USA.

    * **Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply.**

I prefer a Well built well spec'd choice over a good form factor and battery life is not overly important.

    * **How important is weight and thinness to you?**

Because I will take this with me everywhere and I travel a fair amount it is important, I really like the 15" class.

    * **Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux.**

Anything but Chrome OS, I currently use Windows, I use Linux for work and I've never really tried MAC but am open to it as I have an IOS device and enjoy it.

    * **Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.**

15-inch screen size is perfect, if I couldn't have a 15 I'd choose smaller over larger.

    * **Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.**

Gaming: low level, Mostly Drone simulators, football manager, Run VM's and occasionally do small data science work on the machine, I use a larger server for bulky stuff (greater than 1TB (raw) of processed data.)

I run Most JetBrains IDE's daily and Anaconda

    * **If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?**

Drone racing league Simulator settings aren't very important to me.

    * **Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?**

Must have a great keyboard and high build quality. I Multi-task a lot and having enough ram has been an issue in the past when running testing and running multiple programs; I am a software engineer. I don't care either way about a touchscreen. I like having a lot of storage. I also like having a nice screen although that's not the highest priority.

    * **Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.**

Current laptop: MSI GS63 7RD Stealth i7-7th gen, GTX 1050

    Phone: iPhone X

I am the definition of a power user, my laptop serves as my primary everything. I do not have another PC that I use. So this laptop will be my main computer. I am a software engineer. I do a lot of data science work so I like being able to have at least a terabyte of storage for sample data groups to look at in off time despite using an online server for a majority of the heavy lifting. The only real gaming I do would be a football manager and different drone racing simulations, occasionally ill use my GPU to do computational work for side projects I work on. I am almost always multitasking and love to run multiple screens. I realize that Apple laptops are good and would pair well with the fact I have an iphone, I'm open to them but I haven't used their operating system for more than a few hours, so I would need some convincing from your experiences. The things I don't like about my current laptop simply build quality and component failures. I have had to replace the SSD which resulted in the cheap plastic backing under the screen cracking and breaking when I took it off, The screen has also been having issues, flickering and dead spots. The front portion of the laptop is very flexy, the screen is as well and is a well-documented issue. I take very good care of my laptop, when it's not in use it's in a traveling case, I have never dropped or spilled anything on it. And I make sure to clean it with pressurized air frequently. I also find the trackpad lackluster but that's just preference.

Finally, I've seen some sites like IbuyPower and Xotic and am curious about doing an upgraded version of a pc to meet my specs, would people recommend using these sites? If so which site do you recommend?

    TLDR:

Current laptop: MSI GS63 7RD Stealth i7-7th gen, GTX 1050

    Needs:

Power-user, run Drone simulator, football manager, at least a TB storage, multi-screen support, lots of ram to run custom programs. I type a lot so a pretty good keyboard.

    Concessions:

I don't mind staying plugged into a wall, Price budget is fairly large as this is my main and only pc.

Would I be better off buying a custom-built laptop from ibuypower or xotic?

I really just want to thank anyone and everyone who takes the time to read and/or reply.

I have a beefy desktop PC at home for AAA-/VR-gaming and game development, but I need something within a reasonable budget for when I'm on the road, where gaming isn't my top priority. I won't play any graphics heavy games on this laptop. I'll use it mainly for writing/coding/light photoshop stuff

Is an Alienware Pc/Laptop worth buying?

Please help me pick out a laptop - $1,000 budget

    Posted: 08 Oct 2019 10:27 PM PDT

Now that I am considering this purchase I am wondering if I should get a laptop for portability reasons. I like to edit at home but there are many days when I wish I could leave the house and keep working at a local coffee shop which is why I'm leaning towards a laptop now. Thanks in advanced for your help.

What will you be doing with this PC? Be as specific as possible, and include specific games or programs you will be using.

    • Edit photos with Lightroom and Photoshop, I also use LRTimeplapse for timelapse videos, more efficiently and with less lag. I also do minor video editing but I think the division is 85% photo / 10% timelapse / 5% video. I am currently running a Windows 10 computer, I don't have a desire to move to a Mac. I also don't know much about computer components nor how to build a computer.

I WILL NOT BE GAMING ON THIS COMPUTER.

What is your maximum budget before rebates/shipping/taxes?

    *$1,000 USD

When do you plan on building/buying the PC? Note: beyond a week or two from today means any build you receive will be out of date when you want to buy.

    • Honestly, I'm not too sure. Right now I am unemployed and just starting to research my computer options, but I also do not need the newest and best parts

What, exactly, do you need included in the budget? (Tower/OS/monitor/keyboard/mouse/etc\)

    • I'm hoping for laptop reccomendations so I'll need a mouse, I would like to be able to run dual monitors with this laptop while I'm at home.

Which country (and state/province) will you be purchasing the parts in? If you're in US, do you have access to a Microcenter location?

    • Southern California. USA, I could make the drive to Microcenter

If reusing any parts (including monitor(s)/keyboard/mouse/etc), what parts will you be reusing? Brands and models are appreciated.

    • Wacom Tablet: CTH-490K
    • Backup Drives:
      • - WD My Book 25EE - 10TB HDD - used to back up 1x per quarter (otherwise this drive is off and unplugged)
      • - Seagate Backup+ - 5TB HDD

Will you be overclocking? If yes, are you interested in overclocking right away, or down the line? CPU and/or GPU?

    • Not really familiar with the overclocking process

Are there any specific features or items you want/need in the build? (ex: SSD, large amount of storage or a RAID setup, CUDA or OpenCL support, etc)

    • Open for suggestions, with a laptop I'd like a bunch of storage

Do you have any specific case preferences (Size like ITX/microATX/mid-tower/full-tower, styles, colors, window or not, LED lighting, etc), or a particular color theme preference for the components?

    • I don't want a flashy computer that will grab attention of others in the coffee shop

Do you need a copy of Windows included in the budget? If you do need one included, do you have a preference?

    • Yes

Here is a list of my current computer specs, this is a desktop PC that is kind of laggy for editing but good for everything else:

    Computer: HP P7-1227C

Processor: AMD A10-5700 APU with/ Radeon HD Graphics --> 3.4 GHz

    RAM: 12GB --> 11.4GB useable

    64-bit OS, x64-based processor, Windows 10

Monitor: LG Flatiron IPS235V - BN

    Keyboard/Mouse/Wacom Tablet: Logitech MK400/ M705/ CTH-490K

    Storage:

    - Main Drive - Hitachi HDS723020BLA642 SATA - 2TB HDD

    - Backup Drives

--- WD My Book 25EE - 10TB HDD - used to back up 1x per quarter (otherwise this drive is off and unplugged)

    --- Seagate Backup+ - 5TB HDD

--- Sanho IUSBPORT SCSI - 1TB SSD - I use this as a backup device while on a multiday outing, it downloads images directly off the SD Cards

I believe my tower currently has the ability to store another hard drive in it, I am considering putting an SSD in that slot to store the Adobe suite and my photo library for the quarter.

Laptop for Coding + Music Production ~1500 CAD Budget

    Posted: 09 Oct 2019 02:03 AM PDT

    • Total budget and country of purchase: ~1500, Canada

    • Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply. Best specifications

    • How important is weight and thinness to you? Need to carry it with me in a backpack so preferably not too heavy.

    • Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux. Windows, Mac, Linux. Prefer unix

    • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. 13" - 15"

    • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. Nope

    • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? Nope

    • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? Good keyboard for sure. I need to code for my degree and the current laptop I have is horrible to type on. Touchpad is also important as I have issues with it as well.

    • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. I'm running Linux Mint on my current laptop as I prefer the Unix environment for development. However for music production that sorta gets ruled out. I'm leaning towards a MacBook Pro but the price tag for bonus ram and storage is depressing.

    new gaming laptop..

    Posted: 08 Oct 2019 07:49 PM PDT

I am looking to upgrade my GL504GS R.O.G. gaming laptop to something that has a little more graphics power. I was looking at the Alienware m17 and the MSI stealth GS75. My budget is at most $2,200. I also want a laptop that has strong hinges, as my GL504GS's plastic hinge has come off. 144HZ screen, I am ok with a 1080p screen. My laptop also overheats when I run it with Heaven Benchmark. ( The fans sound like a f***ing jet engine on startup, benchmarks, gaming, and anything with heavy graphics needs. The battery also drops very quickly when I use apps with high graphics needs, and this is plugged in.)

    Laptop suggestion for school

    Posted: 09 Oct 2019 01:27 AM PDT

Hi, I'm looking for a laptop that I can take to and from school. It will be used mainly for schoolwork and photoshop. It would be preferred if it could handle some very light gaming as well. I'm really eyeing the surface laptop 3 right now as it's thin and light and has pen support.

    $2000 AUD. Buying from Australia.

*Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply.\*

I don't really want a 2 in 1, and I need good battery life for school.

*How important is weight and thinness to you?\*

I want something that is as sleek and light as possible.

*Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux.\*

    Windows.

    13.5 - 15.

Photoshop. Sometimes Premiere Pro. Light gaming.

*If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?\*

The games I'm going to be playing on this is going to be very undemanding. (Slay the Spire, Celeste and other small indie games). Medium settings, 60 fps.

*Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?\*

I would really like it if it had pen support.

*Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.\*

I don't want a Macbook, for sure. The Surface Laptop 3 looks like exactly what I'm looking for, but I'm not sure if there are better choices that I can make.

Microsoft Surface vs. Macbook Pro for medical school?

    Posted: 08 Oct 2019 02:45 PM PDT

Hi, I'm a medical student and I currently use a Macbook Pro. I chose this just because it's a reliable machine that I know will last me many years (also because there was a $ale lol).

However, I am starting to think that the Surface would be a lot more convenient for studying since you can hand-write notes in textbooks and it's more portable/convertible. Being able to highlight/write/draw in the margins of textbooks and PDFs is the main draw for me lol. I think it would save me a lot of time, but also don't know well I would learn off of a screen alone....

Does anyone have any recommendations? Should I switch? Here are some specific things I am wondering about:

    - Is the Surface reliable and going to last me a long time?

    - Is it powerful? Does it overheat quickly? I often have 92874837 tabs open plus Spotify and a 600 page PDF all at the same time and my Macbook does overheat and the fan gets loud. I guess I could chill and use less things at the same time, but if I were to do this on the Surface, would it be worse/better/the same?

    - Is it fast???

    - People (esp students, esp those in healthcare) who use the stylus to write on the Surface - do you find that this has changed your studying? If so, how? Is it better?

    Thank you! :)

    * **Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply.** I don't want a 2 in 1 but a good amount of battery life with of course the best specs for the money

    * **How important is weight and thinness to you?** I prefer it to be thin, probably thin enough for someone to carry around

    * **Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux.** Windows

    * **If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?** I want a laptop that could work with new games coming out like modern warfare or cyberpunk, I prefer a suitable fps where you can't really see the lag and smooth gameplay

I wish the computer didn't look like something out of back to the future, I was recommended helios 300 a lot, and it is something for me but I just don't like the design

    * **Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.** like i said I want something that is not Megatron's left nut, good keyboard with rgb would be super nice, cuz you know rbg increases gaming performane

The best laptop for 1 game. DOTA 2

    Posted: 08 Oct 2019 06:34 PM PDT

Having 1.2 k to 1.5 k. Searching for a laptop to play Dota 2 at maximum quality. To buy from Amazon U. S. Also I use eviews and STATA for work, I believe it doesnt require much but I am putting it there just in case. The main concern here is quality of life. Because I will be using this laptop for this game and for work for many years down the road. So if it has a big screen, nice keyboard, good cooling, and anything that helps gaming without overheating. Also, you probably guessed, I don't know much about laptops and sorry for my broken english.

    Up to 4500NZD (~2800USD)

    * **Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply.**

2 in 1/detachable, or at the very least a touch screen, is a priority. Good battery life nice but not first priority

    * **How important is weight and thinness to you?**

Somewhat, will be my primary device but more interested in other specs

    * **Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux.**

    Windows

    * **Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.**

Open to anything from 13"-slim 15"

    * **Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.**

Want to be gaming capable - dedicated graphics card necessary. Heavy photoshop usage for uni, mild video (not 4k) editing.

    * **If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?**

GW2 and Fortnite, want to be playable (≥30fps) on medium settings. Would like ability to run AAA style games like GTA 5 and Assassin's Creed Odyssey

    * **Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?**

Touch screen necessary (2 in 1 preferred). Trackpad must be reliable! I'm very used to my responsive macbook trackpad. Keyboard I can probably adjust to. Would like thunderbolt 3. USB A and HDMI port would be nice.. but I know I can't have everything. Fingerprint scanner/windows hello = bonus

    * **Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.**

Starting to look at replacing my 2013 macbook pro retina 13" that lasted me a noice 6 years… want to invest in a laptop which will last me just as long :) leaving the Mac fam because I don't want to pay 3600NZD for a laptop without a touch screen (sorry not sorry Touch Bar..)

2 in 1/detachable is an attractive option to let me draw on it like a piece of paper for art and making teaching notes.. but I do have a Wacom tablet I can connect if that fails. I know the best idea is probably to have a gaming PC and portable laptop - but I spend 3 months overseas every year and can't take a PC with me and want to be able to game while I'm away. Laptop is my only device, I use it almost all day between uni and home.

Uni student looking for a 2in1 max budget $2000CAD

    Posted: 08 Oct 2019 05:42 PM PDT

    * **Total budget and country of purchase:**

Maximum budget $2000 CAD I am in Canada

    * **Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply.**

I am looking for a 2in1 with battery life of at least 5 hours to cover lecture times but would prefer longer closer to 8 hours.

    * **How important is weight and thinness to you?**

Currently got a chunky laptop at 17.3in so weight and thinness is not a big deal to me.

    * **Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux.**

Windows I would be open to Linux or dual boot options

    * **Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.**

    Anything greater than 13in

    * **Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.**

I will be doing photo editing and graphic design on the laptop. I use photoshop for my art and would like it to run photoshop smoothly. I play some games like league of lengeds, fornite, minecraft etc. Being able to run microsoft office, the games mentioned, photoshop as well as programs specific to programming. So things like android studio, eclipse, VScode, Matlab which currently crashes my laptop would be great so that I can do my homework on campus. I also use onenote primarily for taking lecture notes.

    * **If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?**

League of legends and fornite and just other tiny games anything else will most likely be saved for my desktop

    * **Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?**

It has to be a 2in1 I will be using this for school and note taking and like the ability to switch between typing my notes and adding handwritten portions and drawings. The pen that goes with the laptop needs to have a fine point none of that bulky pen ends something similar to the surface pen. Also a basic USB port would be great since my headphones use that but its not necessary I could just use buds.

    * **Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.**

So I am very much in love with the Surface Book 2 but its getting old and idk if I want to drop 3k on it if a new one will be released soon with better specs. I have also been exploring this sub and have taken an interest in the HP spectre x360 however I am curious on what other options are out there. Also since I am going to be using it to draw I tend to rest my hand on the screen so if it could not pick my hand up when the pen is being used that would be a life saver. Thank you all so much for the help.

General Use/Office/Programming Laptop - No gaming $800-1000 USD [Canada]

    Posted: 08 Oct 2019 08:33 PM PDT

My desktop is collecting a bit of dust, and I'd like a laptop to get some work done on the go now. I won't be doing anything super strenuous on it, but I'd like it to be decently powerful and last for awhile. I've never owned a laptop before so I am really not sure what I am looking for. I have a decent understanding of desktop hardware, but when it comes to laptops it seems that there are just so many models and options. I'm not even sure where to start.

I'm currently looking at these, but I am open to anything.

    • Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply. I just want the best that I can get within my budget. Good specs, battery, build quality are all important. 2 in 1 I do not care for.

How important is weight and thinness to you? Thinness is not important, but I do not want anything that weighs too much.

Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux. I will be using windows.

Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. 14-16"

Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. Basic office use, video streaming, programming. Nothing super strenuous.

If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? I will not be doing any gaming on this machine. That is what my desktop is for.

Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? Good keyboard(preferably backlit), build quality, battery life,

Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. I am not sure of good websites or where to buy laptops in Canada. Amazon's Canadian website does not seem to have that many options. Otherwise I have looked at newegg and bestbuy.

    Any help is greatly appreciate.

    Budget Gaming Laptop

    Posted: 08 Oct 2019 08:15 PM PDT

    Hey all,

I run EMS and am looking for a budget laptop to use for some gaming in my down time. I want it to be able to run Runescape specifically, preferably on higher graphics settings but that's not a necessity. I may also use it for some other low intensity games. I am in the US.

My preferred budget is under $500, but I may be willing to stretch it somewhat. Form factor, weight, and thinness do not matter much. Would prefer a windows computer. Looking for a 15"+ screen if possible, may be willing to go down somewhat from there.

    Thank you!

Help pointing in the right direction for this then so yeah

    Posted: 08 Oct 2019 06:50 PM PDT

So i was VERY into tech about a year ago (like watching this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5IS2XEl3qXo then so yeah) then dropped off kinda so it was around when rumors of 10th gen intel were taking off then so yeah

so i have a HP Spectre x360 Convertible 13-ae0xx and it is a mess with over 5 physically broken parts and had to be taken in for fixing (It was in year warranty so I didn't do it because void and free so let them do that)

It isn't good enough for what im doing (8gigs of 2133 ddr3 and uhd620 doesnt cut it when its on 90% almost all the time) and want to be pointed in the right direction for the next one more

    Budget around 2k usd

    want

no soldered in parts prefered a non soldered ssd is a must - i can deal with soldered ram but prefer not

1500USD budget for quiet gaming laptop with good thermals subbing as portable desktop

    Posted: 08 Oct 2019 06:21 PM PDT

    * **Total budget and country of purchase:** I'm looking to spend between 1100-1500USD.. can go up to 1600 for very lucrative deals

**Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Battery life not important. Light is nice, but absolutely not at the expense of thermals, fan sound, or performance

**How important is weight and thinness to you?** Nice but absolutely optional

**Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux.** Windows

**Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.** 17.3 would be nice, 15.3 is fine though. I would prefer a high quality screen over a larger one.

**Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.** Exclusively gaming

**If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?** I would like to be able to play the most recent titles on max settings with 60fps at 1080p.

**Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?**

Fan noise is more important to me than the averal user as this will be in the living room shared space with my family, and I don't want it bothering them. Another important consideration is I will likely be hooking the laptop up to my TV for playing certain games (Red Dead redeption, when it's out, for example). The TV is 4k capable but I'm not expecting a laptop to be able to handle that.

**Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.** -I'm not in a rush to purchase anything, and if anyone has historical trends on holiday sales that would be nice. I've done quite a bit of research. The Helios 300 seems nice and has excellent value, but the 1660ti may be a smidge weaker for playing at higher resolutions, such as on my TV, and it is very loud. The Lenovo Y740 sounds nice, as does the Omen 15. I did see a review on the ASUS Strix II which certainly caught my eye for the thermals and sound, but for a 1660ti it does seem rather expensive compared tot the helios 300.

One other thing is I'm not opposed to having minor customizations to the laptop, such as liquid metal for better CPU thermal performance. I also will probably get a cooling pad even if it gives me a minor improvement on thermals.
