Went to an "Authorized Google Repair Center" now I have security and login attemps on all my accounts.

    Posted: 30 Jul 2019 07:36 AM PDT

Yesterday I cracked my cellphone screen, so I went to google's suggested repair center. I thought it would be relatively simple to get it repaired and I assumed they wouldn't need to log into my phone so I didn't lock down the phone ahead of time.

However when I came to pick my phone up, they essentially held the phone out and asked me to log in, which I figured would be fine because the phone was in front of me - and then they immediately carried the phone off to where I couldn't see it for 10 minutes while it was still unlocked.

Since then I've gotten alerts (facebook, instagram, google) that my account was being logged in from new locations.

What steps can I take now to try and save my data? I'm especially worried about my chrome account because it has login info to all my banking data and I have no idea how to lock down that info.

    Thanks!

Wife lost bunch of memories of our children. Please help.

    Posted: 30 Jul 2019 09:59 PM PDT

My wife uses Quick Memo+ on a LG G5 to record memories of our children (funny things they say/do, etc.)

Tonight she says it got uninstalled somehow and is very upset that she lost all those memories.

Is there any way to re-install it? Would she get her memos back?

Is there some other way we can recover the files somehow?

Please point me to the correct forum if this isn't it and thanks for your help.

(32GB black) It doesn't say anything about it in manuals or the Samsung website

Android keeps accessing mobile data even when they are disabled

    Posted: 30 Jul 2019 05:33 AM PDT

    Hi,

I've started to have an issue with my android recently. I only use wifi connection for internet on my phone, so I don't have a mobile data plan. Few weeks ago, however, my phone decided to periodically ping something using my mobile data, every day at the same moment, which is annoying, because since I don't have a data plan I get charged (ridiculous) money by my mobile operator. So I had to disable the data entirely through the operator to stop this, however, I'm still getting text messages whenever my phone attempts to connect.

The amount of transmitted data is very small. When I look at the graph for mobile data, it only lists "Android OS" with < 0.01 MB.

I'm kinda puzzled what to do about it. I was under the impression, that disabling mobile data should prevent any such shenanigans. I even enabled the "Restrict background data" option to no avail. Any clue how to convince my android not to use mobile data?

I'm using android 6.0 (not rooted). This issue started to occur after I enabled phone encryption. Also, whenever I restart the phone my options are reset, tho I guess that has something to do with the encryption and it's not really an issue since I usually don't let the phone turn off.

Anyone know of a good android keyboard that has more than 3 suggestions? With english, the 3 suggestions is almost completely useless due to tenses.

What's the best way to transfer apps or files from your old android to a new android?

    Posted: 30 Jul 2019 08:49 PM PDT

Been using a rooted Zenfone 3 for a couple years but I'm planning to upgrade to the Zenfone 6 when it comes out. My only concern is having to go through the trouble of setting up the new phone as how I like it as my old. I know that Samsung has the Smart Switch App for switching to a new app but for non-Samsung phones. Was wondering if there's such a tool for non-Samsung phones or if there isn't, what would be the best way to go on about doing this? Also would like to know the most efficient way of doing it for rooted and non-rooted phone.

    Thanks!

Cancelling free trials and restoring deleted folders.

    Posted: 30 Jul 2019 08:39 PM PDT

I accidentally deleted my "Downloads" folder in my storage on amazon. In a panic I signed up for a free trial for the dumpster app which I did not realize costs $50 a month after the trial. There are 2 things I need help with.

    1) Cancelling the free trial as soon as possible. I'm about to go camping in a very isolated area with no connection for 2 weeks and will only have a couple hours to cancel my subscription before it gets automatically renewed. This is top priority.

    2) Restoring my deleted files. I had a lot of music and movies downloaded that I had been hoping to watch/listen to offline. If this cant be fixed or would take a longer time that is fine.

Transfer contacts/data from a broken screen phone to new one.

    Posted: 30 Jul 2019 08:37 PM PDT

My old phone's (LG Aristo 2) screen broke and I got a new one (Samsung Galaxy J2). The staff at Metro PCS didn't know how to transfer my stuff onto the new, even though someone at that store has done it before.

When searching for advice online I'm showered with a ton of similar programs that will claim to do it, until I open the free program and then they want my money. I attached the USB to my computer and opened the files in my phone but none of the files are named anything helpful. Most of my important stuff is on my SD, so if all I get is my contacts, I'm kinda okay with that. Appreciate any help.

Why can't I see all of my internal storage?

    Posted: 30 Jul 2019 08:11 PM PDT

I have a Samsung S5. When plugged into my PC it says I have less than 500MB free of 11GB. I copied everything from internal storage to my PC then deleted it from internal storage. Now I have 2.33GB free of 11GB.

Is the rest just apps and cache and stuff?

I'd like to transfer everything to my new phone, but I want to know what the other 8-9 GB is and make sure I've backed everything up.

Can I remove my S9 One UI update?

    Posted: 30 Jul 2019 07:31 PM PDT

I updated my S9 today because I thought it would just improve performance and not completely change the user interface. I went from loving this phone, to absolutely hating it. I'm not tech savvy at all but I was wondering if I could go back to the original interface? I read you can't without rooting it, but I'm not sure because why the hell would they make updates you can't remove? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Play Store different across identical devices. Same build and version.

    Posted: 30 Jul 2019 07:15 PM PDT

So, I am updating up two tablets for my kids and I noticed the Play Store looks different between the identical tablet models (Galaxy Tab T380)

One Play Store has a green top with right angles on the search bar rectangle. The other is all white with rounded corners However, both tablets are running identical versions of the play store, and the OS is the same security patch, version, and build as well.

Anyone have any idea why that would be the case?

I'm looking to screen record the negative colors visual enhancement on Android, but it is an overlay above screen recording.

    Posted: 30 Jul 2019 06:48 PM PDT

How would I go about doing this? I tried downloading video editor apps and switching to negative but the color grade just isn't the same. Is there anyway to record the screen going negative?

Something odd I noticed about my phone's camera zoom function

    Posted: 30 Jul 2019 06:30 PM PDT

phone is a sony xperia model.

I recently noticed something strange about a picture I took, that was taken with the phone camera fully zoomed in(picture was transferred from phone to PC). The thumbnail image in the PC did not match the image itself. In fact, the thumbnail was the same image taken as if the camera was not zoomed out at all (e.g. you zoom in to take a picture of a flower in a field, but the thumbnail image is a picture of the field, as if you had not zoomed in at all).

It seemed odd that the information I wanted to omit by intentionally zooming in was also captured and recorded.

Does this mean that when android smartphone cameras take pictures, the additional information outside of the zoomed in shot is also recorded and stored somewhere in the photo metadata?

Is there an android phone that takes pictures on snapchat/instagram with the same quality as iphones?

    Posted: 30 Jul 2019 06:19 PM PDT

Look, I know iphones are overpriced and honestly I think the best phone out right now (for me) would be the S10+... but the quality of selfies and general camera quality on snapchat/insta is laughable at best. I know it's not that big of a deal, it's only snapchat, but I use it a lot, its probably my third most used app... so I don't wanna look like I apply vaseline to my lens everytime I take a photo

It's so bad that I did a test with one of my friends, I (unknown to her) switched from my iphone 6 to my dad's S10 and sent her a snap selfie, and she instantly asked me if I switched to a samsung phone.

So, are there any android phones that handle snap / selfies better? I know pixel 3 has a good camera but I can't find much online about social media quality

(by the way this is in no way a hating post on android / samsung phones, I generally think they are much better value and some of the stuff android phones are doing is really cool... apart from snapchat neglecting them)

Garmin Connect causes sound over Bluetooth to "hiccup"

    Posted: 30 Jul 2019 06:02 PM PDT

I have noticed that when watching videos with my Bluetooth headphones, every couple of seconds the sound cuts out for 1-2 seconds then resumes playing, what I call hiccuping. I was wondering what was causing this problem so I did some Googling when I came across a reddit thread on r/lgv30 talking about how it is probably being caused by the BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy) scanning feature that the Garmin Connect app uses to communicate with the watch. Because it seems like this problem only occurs when watching video I am lead to believe having the screen on is allowing the Garmin connect app to continuously wake and run a BLE scan at an accelerated rate, causing the frequent hiccups. To make sure it was the Garmin Connect app causing the problem I uninstalled the Garmin Connect app. When I did the hiccups went away. I'm not quite sure when this all started but I know it's been a happening for at least the past 4-6 months on my phone. I have an LG V30 Android phone running Oreo 8.0.0 and was wondering if this is happening to anyone else on any other phones. If it is, have you figured out any fixes besides uninstalling the Garmin Connect app?

Coming from an Apple Ecosystem, how does the Android+Windows integration compare?

    Posted: 30 Jul 2019 05:28 PM PDT

I plan on switching to android and windows 10 because of the competitive pricing and having more customization and freedom. But I value productivity a lot.

Stuff like: App switching, airdropping files, universal clipboard, being able to text/call from mac when you don't want to pull out your phone all the time are great quality of life features.

Are there alternatives to this for windows and android that work? Thanks!

How well do old flagships display hold up?

    Posted: 30 Jul 2019 05:05 PM PDT

I have been looking at Moto Z from 2016. It has a 5.5 inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 1440 x 2560. If we were to, say, compare its display with one of the current flagships would it look the same? How close would it be to Note 9 or Pixel 3 XL? (Only the display, not the performance)

Locked out of Galaxy S10, how do I unlock or backup?

    Posted: 30 Jul 2019 03:16 PM PDT

Hi guys, I somehow forgot the pattern to my S10 and it locked me out. It's usually muscle memory since I've been using the same pattern for 5 years so idk wtf happened. But now I can't get into my phone since it says "For your security, draw your pattern."

I have a backup of only the apps, calls, texts, and settings. I checked samsung cloud, but I have no gallery backups. Find My Mobile doesn't work to unlock it since apparently it's not registered to my phone? even tho I'm in my samsung account.

Is there any way to unlock it with any programs? I really need to keep my pictures or else I would've factory reset it. I can't even turn it off or restart it since it says "Draw pattern to turn off phone."

    Thanks guys
