How the heck do apps like 'Updates for Android' get 10M installs but I'm struggling to get 50k?

    Posted: 06 Jul 2019 10:43 AM PDT

Couple things. How the hell does Google allow any app with more than 1M users to bypass their filter like this?

https://www.zdnet.com/article/fake-samsung-firmware-update-app-tricks-more- than-10-million-android-users/?mid=1 NO ONE bothered to check this?

    https://www.zdnet.com/article/fake-samsung-firmware-update-app-tricks-more-than-10-million-android-users/?mid=1

Second. How do they get the first 100K installs?

My understanding with ASO is that it's based on number of installs so is this mostly an issue with them buying fake installs and fake ratings to bootstrap?

I made a cricket scoring app. Where I can count runs and balls. So is it possible to sync those counting data live with other devices with a hotspot?

What does Huawei CEO mean by "5 millisecond" processing delay on HongmengOS - what is the comparable delay on Google's Android ?

    Posted: 06 Jul 2019 02:28 PM PDT

Ren sounded highly optimistic regarding the performance and optimization of HongMeng OS, claiming that the operating system has a processing delay of less than 5 milliseconds, and is 'very likely' faster than Google's Android or Apple's iOS offerings.

While we can talk about the audio latency (which on Android still cannot approach iOS), or the touch latency, what latency is this 5ms one referring to ?

How Android Q would affect Custom ROMs?

    Posted: 06 Jul 2019 11:44 AM PDT

Hi, I'm here again because I'm a bit curious about the new changes on Android Q regarding the Mainline Project. Mostly because two things:

    1. If the modular updating only would apply to the Play Store, or if independent devs would be able to use it on Custom ROMs?
    2. And what's the deal with system now being unable to be set r/w, how would affect the Android modding and mostly important, how the Custom ROMs would be affected, and how the devs could solve that problem?

I'm asking here since I want an opinion from the ones who understand Android on a technical level.

What are the other ways to reduce Android app size?

    Posted: 06 Jul 2019 11:16 AM PDT

One of my colleagues, who is an Android developer and not a native English speaker, wrote this article on how to reduce app size. He is not very much active on the Reddit.

So I'm sharing this on behalf of him.

Apart from this, what are the other ways do you use to reduce the Android app size? Please share.

I will share all the feedback with him. Thank you in advance.

I left Android dev after working for 2 years - felt way too one dimensional developer. Has anyone else experienced the same?

Java Heap Space while building app with Phonegap.

    Posted: 06 Jul 2019 10:45 AM PDT

    Hi everyone,

maybe someone of you can give me a hint about a problem that i have been working on since yesterday. i am building an app that contains more than 2600 images. The current size is about 2.8GB in total.

When i use just a few hundreds of the images, the app is build and everything works.

But as soon as i add all images, i get an error indicating: Java Heap Space.

    I have:

an _JAVA_OPTIONS variable indicating "-Xms6g" in my Win10 variables configuration.

made a gradle.properties file in my app directory also increasing the memory.

    But nothing works.

Can anyone tell me where i am doing something wrong or if i might be missing something?

    Thanks and greetings!

    Best way to start ARcore?

    Posted: 06 Jul 2019 08:54 AM PDT

What are the best courses for ARcore? I don't want to build variations of the same application such as from Udemy courses. I want to be able to create AR apps that don't just place objects on the ground but also in mid air(sort of like the Google maps AR).

Question about Copyright Issues for App

    Posted: 06 Jul 2019 07:47 AM PDT

Hello, I am currently creating an Android Application that I am publishing to the Google Play Store in a few weeks. It is an app for a small music festival that our company throws in New Jersey. I am worried about it getting torn down by Google the dates that the festival is running. I use images of the artists performing that I got from Facebook. We do have a signed contract from each artist allowing us to take images from their social media to use for promotion. I also added a button that says "Spotify" which will open their Spotify account when clicked. Will I have any potential issues with Google taking my app off the Play Store?

AAC Navigation - resetting a graph backstack

    Posted: 06 Jul 2019 07:29 AM PDT

    Hi guys,

I'm using Google's own separate multiple backstack hack as suggested here:

    https://issuetracker.google.com/issues/80029773

I'm stuck in a usecase, where I would like to reset another nav controller's backstack to its start destination. I do it by setting the same graph to that controller.

Problem is, that back stack pop is ignored if its fragmentmanager is in stopped state - if called from another navcontroller set as active.

If I try to reset it right after I switch to that controller (e.g. via bottom nav) there still is the fragment from the top of the original backstack visible for a second before the stack gets reset. Looks ugly.

    Is this even possible?

Is it possible to listen in the background for the active MediaSession?

    Posted: 06 Jul 2019 07:06 AM PDT

I've been trying to make a Service that will listen to the active MediaSession (Spotify, Apple Music, SDCard) and save the recent playbackState and MediaSession locally in case the app is shutdown.

I tried looking at every Media class, MediaSession, MediaBrowser, MediaBrowserService, MediaController but all the examples consiste of creating a MediaSession and listening to it. But in my case I want to be able to know the active MediaSession without having any connection to it, on the background.

Is this even possible? I'm using Androidx.

Why is my AdMob eCPM so low compared to other networks?

    Posted: 06 Jul 2019 04:54 AM PDT

Two days ago, I've changed my network platforms from HeyZap mediation with ironSource and UnityAds to AdMob.

I expected a better eCPM, but the eCPM is way lower, I know a lot of people say that you've to wait for the eCPM to get better. But this is just a very very bad start.

To start, I've shown in total 1.2m impressions (interstitials), mostly UnityAds and got around 230k downloads (Android only.)

Most of my downloads are from India and Indonesia.

    These are my average eCPM's:

    $0.39 ECPM HeyZap

    $0.33 cent UnityAds

    $0.58 cent ironSource

    $0.05 cent AdMob

Now I've to say that at the start I've only used UnityAds and later on I started using HeyZap mediation. And right now for the last two days I'm using AdMob only (planning to add mediation aswell.)

I'm curious what you guys think about the eCPM's, especially the one from AdMob, is this normal? Have some of you guys experienced the same?
