Normal for high-end gaming laptop to become extremely loud during gameplay? Posted: 13 May 2019 01:21 AM PDT I recently bought an HP Omen 15 with an RTX 2070. Now I understand that the parts need to be cooled and laptops don't have the best cooling solutions and airflow, but my last gaming laptop definitely wasn't this loud. By far. I've already tried limiting the CPU to 90%, turning down the settings in games and locking them to 60FPS. Nothing helps. The fans in this laptop go crazy. Is this normal? Is there anything I can do about it without damaging my laptop? Thanks [link] [comments] |
Need help decrypting hacked hardrive on laptop Posted: 13 May 2019 01:06 AM PDT Hi there, My laptop got encrypted by ransomware and they asked for money. Is there any computer stores or shops in Melbourne would be able to help with that? I tried everything on the internet but nothing works for me. Appreciate if some could direct me to the right store/s, do I have any other options to recover my data? Thanks [link] [comments] |

AMD RX && Nvidia Quadro same pc Posted: 13 May 2019 12:55 AM PDT As the title said, I installed a nvidia Quadro in my amd pc, only to work with cuda and It's giving me some headaches, because in Windows 10, the Quadro GPU has become the default graphic adapter, and I can't change it back to the Amd that it's set as discrete adapter. I have the latest drivers installed, starting the installation with the amd. I only use Windows for multimedia, and the Quadro is not the best graphic card for this. In linux I don't have so much trouble. I tried shuting down the nvidia in device manager, but I only obtain a black screen, and when I connect my hdmi cable to my AMD, it keeps maintaining a black screen. However, if a put a Dvi adapter with the hdmi cable to the amd, I can get image again, but with tonnes of flcikering, and if I look at the AMD control pannel, it says: "Principal/discrete" instead only discrete. ¿Can someone help to bring back my amd in windows? I don't really need the nvidia in Windows, so I can live whithout it. PD: I forgot to mention I'm using an Asus Crosshair VI, with and AMD Athlon 240GE, which limits the Pci-e lanes in the motherboard, but anyway, the AMD card is installed in the primary PCI-e. Posted: 12 May 2019 07:23 PM PDT I recently bought a a wii at a yardsale, and it worked well for a while. Now the Wii Make's a clicking noise, and will not accept any disks without spitting then out. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 13 May 2019 01:02 AM PDT ASUS ROG STRIX Z370-E GAMING motherboard (likely the problem. just seeing if there is a fix) ASUS Geforce GTX 1070 O8GB Dual-fan Corsair 16GB DDR4 RAM i7 - 8700K not overclocked 3 monitors Rosewill 750W HIVE Powersupply I really think maybe its a motherboard issue, but could be off. This only happens when I'm watching Netflix. I tried the Win10 App and just in Firefox. No change. A fresh restart gives the computer about 2-3 hours before doing it the first time. After that it is every 30-45min. Sometimes I can't get audio to come back and have to restart. Any ideas? Weird stuff. [link] [comments] |
Unable to recover photos from corrupted SD card? Posted: 13 May 2019 01:25 AM PDT Hi all, I'm not sure where to post this, but I figured this would be the best subreddit to help me out. I graduated several weekends ago, and during the ceremony, I gave my Canon Rebel camera to a family member to take pictures. For some reason, NONE of the photos she took saved to my SD card and I've been on edge ever since, because those are the only photos I have of that day of me and my family together. I've tried so many different photo recovery softwares (photorec, easeus, etc.), and I can't seem to find the photos at all. They showed up on the camera when my aunt was taking them, and she didn't do anything other than press the camera button so I don't think it was anything she did. I honestly think my card is just corrupted, but I really want to find these photos as I've been able to find literally every other picture I have taken or deleted... just not these ones. Does anyone have any suggestions for me or other measures I could take? Or do I just need to accept that these photos are gone forever? [link] [comments] |
New monitor is flickering when playing demanding games. Posted: 12 May 2019 11:47 PM PDT I just got a new 1440p 144hz montior and its flickering under high load. When i'm playing a game that uses a lot of my gpu it will start flickering randomly and pretty frequently. Not sure what to do. Using a dell S2716DG and a rx 470 with displayport. I also have 2 other monitors running. it might be flickering more with a video playing on another monitor not sure. I tried playing both CSGO and Mordhau. I played league and it didn't seem to flicker at all so I'm assuming it only flickers under high load. [link] [comments] |
Hidden files/folders from other laptop's HDD visible but not opening Posted: 13 May 2019 12:48 AM PDT Hi r/techsupport, I've run into an issue where an old laptop bit the dust but the HDD is fine, so I took it out, put it into an external sleeve and plugged it into my desktop. Many of the files and folders were hidden on the laptop. My issue is that while these hidden files are visible, they cannot be accessed. They're predominantly images, with most of the file data accessible, but can't be opened. The folder and file names are green, as they are hidden. So far what I've tried: Setting permissions, Changing owner, ATTRIB -H "DRIVE:\FOLDER\HIDDENFILENAME.FILE", attrib -r -a -s -h /s /d, Regedit Checked Value DWORD set to 1, regsvr32 /i browseui.dll, regsvr32 /i shell32.dll This drive was the laptop's only drive and wasn't partitioned, but the files were admin password protected. I figured I could access them that way but there never is any prompt for me to use a password. update: this is probably relevant, but in spite of granting full control in permissions and changing file ownership to the current user, the hidden files cannot be copied or moved, with an "access denied, you must have permission to modify this file" error. Thanks in advance for any help! [link] [comments] |
Laptop shuts off 1 second into boot Posted: 12 May 2019 08:37 PM PDT Recently, my fairly new (just under 1 year old) gaming laptop stopped turning on. When I hit the power button it starts booting normally, with the keyboard backlight going on and everything. About 1 second in, before it gets to the manufacturer logo screen, it shuts off instantly as if the power was cut. I've verified that it's not a battery issue by testing without it. Not sure what to do, could it be just a dead CMOS battery or something minor, or is it likely a dead power supply? [link] [comments] |
Why did all phones switch to mini/micro USB in like 2008? Posted: 13 May 2019 02:55 AM PDT I don't know where to ask this. I have this story in my head (don't know where it came from) where all phone manufacturers were mandated by law to use a standardised cable to cut down on resource waste. Can anyone tell me more/ tell me if I'm wrong? Why did this conversion happen? Thank u :) [link] [comments] |

Help with Factory Resetting my Laptop Posted: 12 May 2019 11:10 PM PDT I, unfortunately, got one of those terrible viruses on my laptop demanding a ransom for my files. Thankfully, I did not have anything valuable to me on the computer but was wondering what is the next step forward. When I reinstall windows/factory reset my laptop, will that get rid of the virus and is there a link where I find a copy of Windows 7 to install onto my USB drive? Thank you [link] [comments] |
Posted: 13 May 2019 12:39 AM PDT I'm from Europe, and I would like to use my VPN(Surfshark) on a TV so that I could watch USA Netflix on it. How does one configure this? I'm using the Netflix app on a LG smart TV. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 13 May 2019 04:16 AM PDT I came back after a weekend away and found that I can't search anything on my desktop or phone as google safesearch appears to be locked on despite my opting out. I've tried the old dns trick that I've had on for a few years changing it to 8.8.8.8 but it doesn't work. Any idea how to get around this? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 13 May 2019 12:01 AM PDT I have a GTX 1070 from Gigabyte, the triple fan model. A couple of days ago one of the three fans started going crazy. It turns on randomly and spins at maximum speed making a noise that is the loudest i've ever heard a PC make, it literally sounds like a jet engine. I have MSI Afterburner and when that fan spins the chart shows 0% fan speed. I found out randomly because if I stress test the GPU it won't go crazy that often, it's completly random. I appreciate any suggestions. [link] [comments] |
I am having trouble finding a certain function on my computer Posted: 13 May 2019 03:43 AM PDT For many years (ever since the early 2000's), I have owned a computer. Whether or not that's a desktop, laptop, Microsoft, Mac etc. The most common problem I have had with each model is finding the ANY Key... To this day, I have never been able to find it anywhere on my computer....it's a pity because I've never really gotten anywhere with setting any of my devices up as I've been unable to find that particular key...!!! Please can someone provide me with some advice, it would be greatly appreciated! [link] [comments] |

Hi need help with spun on my MAG250? Posted: 13 May 2019 03:22 AM PDT So I saw the thug rose fight last night and it was amazing but whenbibtried to watch it again in the video club the sound wasn't working. Any ideas? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 13 May 2019 03:19 AM PDT Now I believe this should have an easy fix I just don't know how to search for the solution without the correct phrasing sooooooooo here I am Basically in the games I've played so far (League of Legends and Final Fantasy XIV) The in game frame counter will be typically 60+. But staring at the game you can easily tell it's not. This issue is only there when the games are in borderless/windowed mode. The issue goes away when I put it into fullscreen. But I've never had to do this on my old computer which boasts lower end parts and I still have to do comparisons. So my question is... What possible setting is on the current comp I'm using that is causing this issue? Which VPN for TP-Link router (C20) Posted: 13 May 2019 03:14 AM PDT I was about to get a NordVPN subscription but I found out TP-Link routers are not supported. What would be the best VPN for a TP-Link C20? EDIT: Would it be possible to change the FW to make it work? How hard is it? [link] [comments] |
Does a non-readable but still connected HDD slow down SSD powered laptop / win 10 ? Posted: 13 May 2019 03:14 AM PDT Just a simple but absolutely correct answer needed so I can take an action afterward, my secondary HDD is not readable anymore and I use an SSD primarily from which windows 10 starts but it's been 2 days that my boot time takes almost 10 minutes and when I click "my computer" the disc usage shoots up to 50 - 55% and remains like that for some time also when I carry some files into the other files it's image keeps still at first place where it was until I right click and refresh so.... is it all because of the dead secondary hdd that is dead but connected ? and would removing it solve the problems I mentioned above thank you. Game runs on integrated graphics instead of nvidia hardware, ignores settings Posted: 13 May 2019 03:12 AM PDT My partner and I each have the same gaming system (except mine came with an SSD), each have Windows 10, each have little installed except games, and each have and play many PC games without issue. We each run at 1080p, but I use the laptop screen and may partner uses our TV via HDMI. Trials: Rising works fine (as much as it can) on my system, so we bought a copy for my partner's system and we know it should run ok there. Trials: Rising did NOT work on my partner's system.
The developers are incompetent and can not be expected to bother fixing anything and neither they nor their support or community people will talk about anything or help. We know they know about this problem, and have known about it since the game's public beta. They claimed they were looking into it, but it's not on their known issues list, and it has been months and two patches since release with no word or followup whatsoever. What I'm saying is, we're on our own here and any questions we might take to the devs are probably going to get nothing. If anyone has ideas on ways we might tease the game into using its settings or otherwise running like it does on my system, please offer them. Thanks for reading :) Current Status (Will Update) By starting the game, then disabling the integrated graphics hardware from device manager, the game is playable, but has no sound and still not as smooth as it runs on the same hardware on my system. Posted: 13 May 2019 03:11 AM PDT On windows 7. Please help this is the only time I've ever had a virus and I have no idea how to begin fixing this. [link] [comments] |
