    BIOS showing wrong CPU

    Posted: 02 May 2019 12:43 AM PDT

I recently noticed a slow down on my computer. When I went to investigate I noticed that my system showed that I had an Intel Pentium G4400 for a CPU. I built my computer, and I know I have the Intel i5-7600K. I remember seeing it before in my system information as that as well.

I went into the BIOS, and it is also showing the G4400.

So I tried to update the BIOS to the newest version, F9d, I reset the CMOS, I removed and moved around RAM, and it still shows the G4400.

So I thought that I was crazy and decided to remove the heat sync and the CPU reads Intel i5-7600K!

    GA-Z270XP-SLI (1.0) BIOS Ver: F9d Intel Core i5-7600K LGA 1151 Operating System: Win 10 64-bit Memory: BALLISTIX PC4-21300 2x8gigs

    Before updating the BIOS: https://imgur.com/a/axmxAIG

After updating the BIOS (sorry bad picture-I was upset it still showed the wrong CPU) https://imgur.com/a/GrFUShp

The CPU label (hard to read because of the paste but it does say i5-7600K) https://imgur.com/a/Jjbpbri

I've been searching for any kind of solution, but I've just been frustrated and flustered. I would really appreciate any suggestions!

Also! This is my first post :D

    Thank you!

EDIT: Thanks everyone! All signs say that I got tricked, and the CPU was returned to Amazon with a different lid before I got it. :(

Windows 10 won't boot up, please give me advice

    Posted: 02 May 2019 03:10 AM PDT

This happened suddenly after my PC automatically updated, at first my PC lags really badly and the whole desktop was unresponsive. Then I tried to restart a few times and no luck.

After a few times, it won't even let me login because it's stuck on the lock screen. Things turned to worse and it won't boot at all and just stuck on a black screen.

I tried to enter Recovery Environment and use startup repair but it failed.

After that I tried to enter Safe Mode, at first it took awhile but it let me get into Windows and operate normally in Safe Mode, then I restarted. Still can't get into normal Windows.

And then I tried to uninstall the latest quality update, but it failed.

My last resort was the CMD and I've tried sfc /scannow but it found nothing wrong.

Then as a noob I am, tried chkdsk /r without much knowledge. Got power outage during the scan, and after I retried it the ETA was too long. I read that chkdsk could also make things worse.

Now I don't know what to do, I need to recover my data first but xcopy failed halfway.

I'm afraid to reinstall Windows with this hard drive that seems like failing.

Can anyone give me advice on what to do now?

How do I send large (>10GB) files over the internet?

    Posted: 01 May 2019 09:02 PM PDT

I'm looking for a service that is like Dropbox or Google Drive, but lets you send large files. Free accounts at Dropbox etc have limits. But that's because they keep your large file, unless you explicitly delete it. But what if I just want to send a large file, and delete it right after? Is there any service that lets you send really large >10GB files at a price comparable to Dropbox etc, because you're not keeping that file afterwards?

TLDR: Dropbox storage is expensive because they keep your files on the cloud. I just want to send the file, so no need to keep on cloud. I need a quick allocation of >10GB to send the file, then I don't need that allocation afterwards.

I received a phone call. Its someone else’s conversation?

    Posted: 01 May 2019 05:26 AM PDT

Im still on the phone with "them". The voices on the other end of the call are a middle-eastern (?) man and an American (?) woman having a conversation. The conversation lasts about 6-7 minutes and loops over and over again. They're either speaking half-English or the dialogue is too unintelligible to understand.

    From what I do understand:

Man: my first question is, how many colors of contacts you have?

    Woman: 94 or 95

    Woman: How many euros...your life?

    Man: unintelligible

Woman: well for me it'd be like -3

    What is this??

    Laptop liquid spillage

    Posted: 01 May 2019 07:55 PM PDT

My protein shake spilled in my bag, and got all over my Lenovo y700. It was unable to boot at all and I wasnt able to clean it immediately. Once I got home, I completely dissected my laptop and scrubbed down everything with 91% alcohol. Now the power lights turn on once I push the power button, the fans spin, and the laptop seems to have a current running according to my multimeter. However, the screen is black and my laptop does not get detected by an external monitor. Is there anything I can do to possibly diagnose or fix my laptop?

Looking for a list of tech terms to be used by spellchecker

    Posted: 02 May 2019 03:00 AM PDT

While building a web app, I have a requirement that user content is checked for spelling errors. I am not using browser's spellchecker since I don't use textarea HTML element. I use an custom editor. Anyway, user content has lot of tech terms (eg. endian, microblog, textarea, DevOps, graphene) that are not available in common dictionaries out there. Anyone knows of a tech dictionary that the spellchecker can use?

In fact, while writing this post, I see that the editor used by Reddit underlines the above five words as spelling errors!

Upgraded PC, now no video output.

    Posted: 02 May 2019 01:50 AM PDT

Hey so yesterday I purchased a new CPU cause my old one is not powerful enough anymore. Cause the new CPU is a lot new compared to my current one I had to buy a new motherboard and RAM.

    New Items:

Motherboard - ASUS prime x470 pro

    CPU - Ryzen 7 2700x

    RAM - Corsair vengance 2x8 DDR4

My pc powers is, all RGB lights turn on but no video output.

    What I tried.

Two separate GPUs, still no output. RAM on different slots.

From what I know the motherboard meant to beep a code but I hear nothing even if I connect a speaker to rear end port.

Got recommended to resit the CPU. Or to flash a BIOS update on USB? Haven't tried either.

What's your take on this problem, plz help

I have a Turkish SIM, and websites blocked in Turkey are still blocked outside of Turkey when using a SIM only connection. Is there a way around this without using a VPN?

    Posted: 02 May 2019 04:50 AM PDT

If I wanted to access imgur for example, I can't use a VPN when solely connected to the internet via my cell reception. This is a massive pain in the ass.

    Please help :/

PC shutting down when launching games, and I'm having trouble diagnosing!

    Posted: 02 May 2019 04:47 AM PDT

    Hey everyone,

It's been a long time! I've posted here on old account but haven't visited in a long time.

Hoping to get some advice as I'm extremely rusty when it comes to PC hardware, being a bit light on spare components doesn't help.

Anyhow random issues; I've been playing a lot of games lately (so much Mortal Kombat) and everything was going smoothly until random re-boot a couple of nights ago. No biggie I thought, maybe it just got a little toasty and shutdown. It's happened very occasionally, so I didn't think much off it. I've had this PC for a couple of years now, and it's' been super reliable.

Anyhow fast forward to do, when every attempt I've made to play any of my games results in a random re-boot regardless of the game I'm playing. It's bumming me out as I've really been enjoying my gaming lately.

I've been using the PC for watching movies, but this as only occurred when gaming. I haven't run any other stress tests though.

Here's what I've been through so far:

    - Re-seated GPU, CPU fan, and Memory

    - Used compressed air to clean all components

    - Un-installed / Re-installed graphics card drivers

    - Checked event logs, nothing outside of critical sutdown

I did run memtest64 on it which actually crashed, but I'd have thought if it were a memory issue I'd see this happening outside of gaming as well?!

Unfortunately I don't have any spare GPU's, PSU's, or memory sticks lying around to start ruling things out. Does anyone have any suggestions? Are there any further diagnostic tests I could perform?

I'm tempted to take it to a local shop at this stage, unless my friends have some spare hear lying around.

    Move SQL Express

    Posted: 02 May 2019 04:38 AM PDT

I have a Windows 7 domain machine running MSSQL 2014 Express, and I want to upgrade to Windows 10 and have to swap the hardware. The problem is this: The host name and IP address must remain the same because a static route from some networks will lead to the computer. The logins from the server, the settings and the databases must remain the same. I would like to create a same new computer, with the same IP and host name in AD, and therefore copy the database with the local user from the old PC. I read that in the Express version "copying databases" is not included and that you have to backup the database and restore it to another server. In this case, however, the logins (users) and the settings of the server are not copied. Is there a way to copy and paste the whole server as it is on another PC? The downtime is not important. The system is not yet in production.

Is it okay to uninstall/delete all those Microsoft C++ Redistributable x64 or x86 updates?

    Posted: 02 May 2019 04:38 AM PDT

There are so many in Windows 7 Control Panel Programs and Features, dating back as far as 2010. Is it safe to uninstall them except for the most recent? Thank you.

Have bought a PC second hand with windows 10 installed, but not activated (bummer!). Bought a product key to try activate it, but it comes up with error 0xc004f050 "the product key you entered didn't work".

Tried to do a youtube tutorial or two which ran me through trying to install the product key through command prompt but to no avail. I'm not too tech savvy, so not sure what my next move is :( help? Please?

    Glitchy PC

    Posted: 02 May 2019 04:07 AM PDT

    Hey lads!

My PC is starting to stutter and glitch, in and out of game.

    My Specs are

    Intel core I7 6700K 4GHz

    GTX 1080 Galax

    16GM Ram (corsair DDR4)

    250 M2 SSD

    2TB HDD

It's as if the whole PC is losing frames, I've got Norton internet and PC virus protector and all scans say the PC is clear. I'm not very smart when it comes to dealing with hardware issues or software issues. None of my hard drives are close to being 80% and startup is roughly 20 seconds (Bios estimate)

Recently dusted PC with a electronic friendly can of air and about 2 weeks late the PC has started to lack in performance and I guess this could be a possible cause of issue also

    Cheers

How to recognize ISP's Data Cap?

    Posted: 02 May 2019 04:03 AM PDT

Background story: About a month ago I got 750Mbps down/up internet from T-Mobile in the Netherlands. It went fine and all, but since I do cloud-gaming (which uses a lot of bandwidth), I think they data-capped me.

When I first got this service I had good down-up speed. Around 750Mbps.

Now see, a week ago, before my new monthly subscription renewed, I always got 250Mbps up and down with Cat5e connected with the modem. Always. Never more, never less. Even WiFi 5GHz gave the same: 250Mbps up and down, locked.

So I called the customer service, and they didn't have a clue what's going on either. We were talking for 40 minutes on the phone, trying everything, in the end I just reset the modem and it went back to 750Mbps.

Guess what: the next day it went back to 250Mbps. So I called them again, told them what I did previous time. This time again: 'I don't know what's going on, best you can do is reset the modem.'

But look: now that the new monthly subscription is in, and my down-and up are back to a constant 750Mbps. Are they data capping me?
