Do yall use smartwatches, and if not have you ever considered getting one? Posted: 16 May 2019 08:53 AM PDT As the title says I'm curious how many of yall own/use one. If so what do you mainly use it for, and would you reccomend your purchase to others? Personally I use my Galaxy Watch as a notification tray and I can quickly check if something is worth my time to go to my phone for. Also use it for fitness like the Heart rate tracker. Is no one going to point out the hypocrisy with the Oneplus 7? Posted: 16 May 2019 01:26 PM PDT Sorry for formatting issues and what not, first-time poster here. What I am referring to is the pop-up camera. I've seen a few reviews and only one (the LinusTechTips one) mentions it and even they say that they trust it, given it's because they've seen their testing facility, but everyone who I've seen do a review on them have also done a review on the Vivo Nex and the Oppo Find X (two phones with also a pop up camera) and they've criticized it and expressed doubt about the camera. Yes, I know that Oneplus does have a rigorous testing facility but who is to say Vivo and Oppo don't, Oppo owns Oneplus (I think or maybe they share a parent company) and Vivo and Oppo are some of the biggest phone companies, so it only makes sense for them to have just as rigorous, if not more, testing facilities. The only real thing I can see as a reason to trust Oneplus's camera more is the fact that it retracts upon being dropped. Edit: Just want to add after seeing Dave's video on the ASUS phone with the flip-up camera I was reminded of something many tech YouTubers have said: "This isn't the way moving forward." Of course Dave was referring to the flip-up camera, not a pop-up camera but still, it is still something I've heard many times about pop-up cameras. Once again it isn't something I've heard commented on the Oneplus 7. Edit 2: maruf99 has left a comment informing me that apparently Vivo, Oppo, and Oneplus are owned by a parent company called BBK Electronics. Leave your thoughts below. Disagree all you want I am open to discussion, after all, I am the one who asked the question "Is no one going to point out the hypocrisy with the Oneplus 7?" [link] [comments]
Finally found a way to fix the dreaded greyed out google backup button Posted: 16 May 2019 05:30 PM PDT Turns out the fix is pretty simple, just remove lockscreen security (Basically just set it to 'none') and the backup button should work All credits goes to Steve Swayne for this fix (plus some other guys, I just happen to see his comment first)https://support.google.com/pixelphone/thread/1520722?hl=en Edit: Tried flashing a different rom and restoring my apps, google backup says there are no backups found even though i did one literally 20 mins before flashing [link] [comments]
So what's the deal with dedicated AI hardware? When will apps use it? Posted: 16 May 2019 08:46 AM PDT I have yet to come across around a single app (besides the camera) that use NPUs (Neuronal Network Processing Units) built into for example Huaweis flagship devices, iPhone X, and in Snapdragon 855 devices like OnePlus 7, Xiaomi Mi 9 and lots more. I mean a NPU in phones could be generally very useful with AI learning on our behavior. And it it will run extremly efficient if its done on a NPU, because its dedicated hardware specifically tailored to AI tasks (which means much higher performance at much lower battery consumption for those tasks) . But right now there is nothing that take advantage of that. Google recently announced a new version of Google Assistant that runs on-device (which is exactly what NPUs are made for) and there was no word if that would finally utilize the NPU in our modern smartphones.
