Sunday Rant/Rage (May 12 2019) - Your weekly complaint thread!

    Posted: 12 May 2019 04:13 AM PDT

Note 1. Join our Discord, IRC, and Telegram chat-rooms! Please see our wiki for instructions.

This weekly Sunday thread is for you to let off some steam and speak out about whatever complaint you might have about:

    • Your device.

    • Your carrier.

    • Your device's manufacturer.

    • An app

    • Any other company

    Rules

    1) Please do not target any individuals or try to name/shame any individual. If you hate Google/Samsung/HTC etc. for one thing that is fine, but do not be rude to an individual app developer.

    2) If you have a suggestion to solve another user's issue, please leave a comment but be sure it's constructive! We do not want any flame-wars.

    3) Be respectful of other's opinions. Even if you feel that somebody is "wrong" you don't have to go out of your way to prove them wrong. Disagree politely, and move on.

Google enforcing a dark mode option in all third party apps. Yay or nay?

    Posted: 12 May 2019 06:28 AM PDT

As a long time AOSP user, who has used CyanogenMod and other AOSP ROMS, dark mode has always been something I want and I know there are many like me. The recent Google apps having an option to turn on dark mode has really made many other user realise the significance of it. Since we could see in Google I/O announcement for Android Q having a system-wide dark mode, wouldn't it be amazing to see Google enforce this on all app developers to include a dark mode option in their apps? They could give some special benefits to developers for doing so or even better, create a tool which does the dark mode conversion, inverting the colors and the developer can fix just a few things to make it work perfectly. How amazing would that be?

So far, works like a breeze, except for one problem: SafetyNet ctsprofile fails which doesn't let me download netflix but that's no big deal as I use mostly use my PC for that. Thanks to u/x86cpu for making this unofficial build happen. I love that my G5 keeps living.

Google fit needs to go social !

    Posted: 12 May 2019 12:17 AM PDT

Does anyone else think that Google fit would greatly benefit from having challenges amongst friends and what not. I really cannot complain about the quality of tracking and the ability to link third party apps with Google fit. But I really think a social aspect to the app would help it compete with the likes of Fitbit and Apple's fitness app.

What does everyone think of the current Google Photos sharing tab?

    Posted: 11 May 2019 03:35 PM PDT

I for one, HATE the sharing tab on Google Photos. It's congested, ugly, and confusing. It's just an endless list of links shared. It's not organized in the slightest.

How it is now. I hate it (https://i.ibb.co/7tbg0Jj/298188223.png)

These are two pictures I quickly drew up.

    https://i.ibb.co/nCn2nN8/IMG-20190512-103724.jpg

    https://i.ibb.co/HVrLfzZ/IMG-20190511-171026.jpg

    • The circles at the top are most common contacts you share with. And they scroll to the right.

    • Below are groups where you shared something with more than one person (mom and sister, etc)

    • (I left space at the bottom of the first picture because I was gonna add something else, but wasn't sure what to put there.

    • Then individual contacts show a circle profile picture and their name. Underneath however shows photos and chat. Showing everything you've ever shared, if you scroll.

    • But there are two view types when in a contact. "Chat view" = Photos and text responses. "Photo View" = Just shows the photos and no chat. That way if you don't wanna see tons of chat messages, you can hide it. And get a clean view of what photos you have and haven't set to a contact.

Thoughts? I can't be the only one who avoids the current share tab whenever possible!
