    Hi everyone,

Total budget and country of purchase: 1300 USD

Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply. 2in1: will be nice to have actually. Battery: as well big factor

How important is weight and thinness to you? Ultrabook, but not important at all

Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux.Windows.

Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. 13-14" screen

Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. manager notebook for lot of Chrome browsing, Excel and Word open and sometimes in free time video editing.

If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? no gaming.

Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? next business day warranty can be nice. But no other requirements.

Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.

I'm thinking about notebook around 1300 USD in Europe. I'm really interested right now in HP Spectre, but I hate difference in price between Europe and USA, haha.

Anyway as well I liked Elitebook, but I want to try this time 2in1, for traveling browsing etc.

As well I heard about Dell XPS, I need to say, really nice computer, but problem is that they put camera to the down party of display and I need video call often.

So... I will welcome any help! Thank you very much! :-)

Laptop for photo/video editing. 7 year old laptop finally died!

    Posted: 02 Apr 2019 06:08 PM PDT

    • Total budget and country of purchase: $1000 and USA. I'm open to buying a cheaper laptop and upgrading parts, within reason.

    • Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply. Good battery is important, but I can live without it. I'm not in need of a 2 in 1 form factor. I'm always looking for the best bang for the buck.

    • How important is weight and thinness to you? As long as I can carry it with me and not break my back back, I'm happy.

    • Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux. Windows

    • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. 13''-15.6"

    • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. Photoshop. Adobe Premiere. Photo/video editing

    • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? Not playing any games right now, but maybe in the future

    • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? Must have a screen with good color reproduction, good build quality, and reasonable heat distribution. RAM and harddrive should be upgradeable of every needed. No need for a touchscreen.

    • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. I'm in need of a new laptop as my 7 year old laptop finally died. I've been doing my research and it's crazy how much options there are now. I've been told to get the best processor I can and the best graphics card too in my budget.

Main purpose of the laptop would be basic photo/video editing, web browsing, learning code, and using Microsoft Office. There will be some light gaming thrown in here in there, but most games I play can run on my old laptop, which had a NVIDIA GT540M. I know, it's old.

What I'm questioning is how good of a graphic card I need to edit photos and videos? Also, what can I do to future-proof as much as possible. I'm looking to hold on to this laptop as long as I can.

Processor-wise, minimum of an i5, preferably the i5-8300H.

    Anything helps. Thanks!

15.6, $1200 USD, Looking to buy a gaming laptop for the next 5-10 years

    Posted: 02 Apr 2019 11:32 PM PDT

    • Total budget and country of purchase: 900-1200 USD, am factoring in possible future sales, so finding a higher price than that is fine

    • Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply. Best Specifications for the Money, Primarily for gaming

    • How important is weight and thinness to you? No Prefference

    • Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux. Windows, that being the case, I'd also want to have as little bloatware as you can find, many PC manufacturers fall victim with adding their own software, HP and Lenovo being the worst offenders.

    • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. 15.6" screen

    • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. Mainly Gaming

    • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? I want to future proof myself, while not being bothered with high end graphics. Steady 60 FPS at Medium to High regardless of the game, I can live without the 120+Hz screens. 1060 and i7 should be enough.

    • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? Numpad, USB Type-C, 2+ USB-A ports, and Backlit Keyboard as a requirement. As I'm using it for the long run, reliable build quality. I do plan on upgrading the RAM, HDD, and SSD along the way, so one that's configurable. Would like a Thunderbolt 3 port and RGB Keyboard, but not a necessity

    • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.

Definitely planning to use it for gaming and web browsing. I play a bit of everything, though I tend to enjoy it for the gameplay and not the graphics. That being the case, it's an upset when the frames drops while playing, and the enjoyment suffers because of that. I think a 1060 would prevent that issue. I don't see the need for the 120 or 144Hz screens, though a lot of gaming laptops feature them. Lately I've been playing emulators, which puts a lot of demand on the processor, so an i7 would be desired here. I am worried about bloatware. While I can use a clean install of windows to free up that worry, I also feel like it takes away a bit of the gaming nature of the laptop, and then me having to reinstall bits and pieces ie. RGB controls. Price I'd like to pay around 1K, though I've seen laptops for 1400 go on sale for 1100, so that's something I'd like to keep in mind, I can wait around as it's really more of a future buy

(u.s) Looking to upgrade from slow tablet Surface 3 to a fast 2 in 1 laptop/tablet for note-taking + keyboard (writing) in college and moderate gaming(optional).

    Posted: 02 Apr 2019 11:11 PM PDT

    • Total budget and country of purchase:

Prefer Up to 1,000 and a little above, willing to buy used, only if it's significantly reduced from original price. But would prefer new/sale.

    • Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply.

Prefer 2-1 as I like the size and portability of a tablet that can be written on and the keyboard and power of a laptop. Will also settle for a tablet but I will need a keyboard with it and most cost an additional $100

    • How important is weight and thinness to you?

Can work around size but would prefer something not too heavy and is comfortable to write on.

    • Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux.

    Prefer Windows

    • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.

Between 10-13ish inches I tried 15 inch screen and they seem too big to write on to be comfortable.

    • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.

Note-taking (one-note), Word documents, leisure videos, medium to heavy gaming (steam) but not priority.

    • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?

Overwatch, Dead by Daylight, Not looking for intense graphics as I already have a high end PC for that. Just something that can play things moderately.

    • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?

Good keyboard is a must as I would like to use this device for Word documents as well. Don't really much care for security protection. Needs to be able to take notes down with a pen/stylus, the only thing I can't compromise on.

    • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.

Been using a Surface 3 for most of my college semesters and looking to upgrade. Surface 3 is just too slow, can't handle most of it's programs without having issues. My priority use of this is for note taking through a touch-screen. Would also want a keyboard as well for word documents etc.

Being able to game on it is an afterthought, would be nice to have but if it'll cost an arm and a leg I can do without it.

I've looked at Surface Book 2 i7 used but it's a bit too pricey and not a fan of the detachable tablet having a short battery life.

Samsung S4 Tab was another contender but it seems more useful as a media consumption tablet and doesn't come with a keyboard.

Not a fan of anything Lenovo after some ill-experiences with their products.

I see alot of HP 2-1 options but I have no idea how to begin to narrow those down.

Also looked at newest Ipad but I really don't want to get into the Apple ecosystem and doesn't come with a pen or keyboard.

tldr: want to replace slow surface 3 with something fast that can be written on (priority) and has a keyboard with moderate gaming (optional)

    Cheap laptop for gaming?

    Posted: 03 Apr 2019 04:47 AM PDT

Sorry if this is a dumb post. I'm looking for a cheap (around $600, preferably lower than) laptop for running games on. I haven't done much research yet, but I think I'll most likely be running games like Csgo (to Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege??) if it's possible lol. I'd buy a PC right now if it weren't for the price range of the pc components that I want to buy (this is including the monitor too, so I'm going to save up for one later).

In the meantime, I would much appreciate any recommendations! Especially if those said recommendations are of the highest (or best) specs that I can get for this laptop price range. Please let me know if theres something else that I'm missing from my "ideal" gaming laptop specs that I should consider; these are the only things I could think of right now (and I understand these might not be achievable at "around $600")

    My ideal gaming laptop: 8 GB RAM+ | 60fps+ (emphasis on the plus sign; I love a high refresh rate) | 13.3 inch+ | battery life: 5 hours?+ | intel i5+?

    thank you x

Ditching my gaming laptop for portability and working on the go, not sure what to prioritize?

    Posted: 03 Apr 2019 01:01 AM PDT

I'm a graphic designer, and I've been using a MSI GS60 (i7-6700HQ, GTX970M) for both my work and gaming needs. But it's crapping out on me in every way, so I'm thinking of replacing it with a completely different kind of laptop - since ultrabooks and 15W U processors have crept up in power to match my 6th gen HQ anyway.

I'm going to be using it for mostly graphic design work, so Photoshop, AI, InDesign mostly. Heavier graphic needs crop up occasionally too, like video editing, animation and 3D, but they're not a priority. If anything, I still have my old MSI at home if I need it for any heavy lifting. I just want the freedom to be able to do most of my work anywhere I want without being tethered to a wall plug, because environment really matters a lot to me.

Which leaves me in a dilemma of three options:

    1. Go all out on portability and battery, sacrificing power
This would probably mean something like the LG Gram, with long battery life but no GPU. I'm also considering MX150 laptops for just a little more power, but I'm scared of the battery drain from having to power a GPU too. Though with my kind of work, I'm not sure if the battery drain will be significant enough to warrant me bringing along a power brick anyway which kinda defeats the purpose. So if I'm going to be carrying more weight with me anyway, might as well
    2. Balance portability and power
For this I've been eyeing the Zenbook UX533, with a 15W processor still, just paired with a 1050 Max-Q which should match my old 970M in power decently? My only gripe with this laptop is the lack of USB-C charging, which along with it's sub-Gram level battery life probably means I can only manage nomadic trips before returning to a charging spot. Which again seems a little pointless depending on how long those trips are, hence I'm also considering
    3. Give up on lightweight and focus solely on battery
Which either means a Thinkpad with huge and swappable batteries, or a USB-C charging enabled laptop + a USB-PD enabled power bank. This is probably the priciest yet most cumbersome option though, and I'm not sure if it's worth it versus just topping up wherever I can find power as I go along. Plus there don't seem to be many good options that are comparable with the UX533, and I'm not sure if USB-PD power banks can keep up with the power draw of even a MX150 GPU anyway.

Any advice or suggestions are much appreciated, thanks!

Need to pick a laptop at work - Windows vs Mac vs Chromebook

    Posted: 03 Apr 2019 12:53 AM PDT

I have been a Windows user and don't really have (m)any complaints per se. Enterprise level machines are typically pretty high performance and portable. My current device is HP Elitebook 820 G3. and I am due for a renewal. I can choose among 3 options:

    1. Lenavo X1 Yoga 14"
    2. Top end Chromebook 13"
    3. MacBook Pro 13"

Unfortunately I don't have further detailed specs and essentially have to make a choice basis platform and whether if I can easily switch conveniently to a new one. This is leaving me confused big time. Please suggest!

    EDIT: Form

    * **Total budget and country of purchase:**

    Budget not a constraint, India

    * **Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply.**

Best specs for professional use (heavy Office Suite use, smooth email experience, general browsing)

    * **How important is weight and thinness to you?**

Prefer lightweight and smaller screens, not too particular about marginal improvements

    * **Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux.**

Part of the question - been a Windows user all my life - wondering if I should switch to ChromeOS or Mac

    * **Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.**

    13" or 14"

    * **Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.**

No media editing/gaming. Office suite. Chrome/Firefox, Some statistical analysis tools occasionally

    * **If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?**

    No

    * **Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?**

Good keyboard and touchpad, don't care about touch screen, strong build

    * **Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.**

Spoiled for choice to be fair. I can very easily live with Windows machine. But very tempted to try a new platform - at the same time concerned if my productivity will take a hit due to change of platforms. Thanks for the help!

15 inch laptop with U processor and large battery

    Under 2000 euro, Ireland

    15 inch, small bezels

    * **Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.**

I have a work computer that I can connect to with a remote desktop. Would have some minor MATLAB and 3D modelling software running. Heavy lifting would be done by my dektop (8700 & 1070Ti)

    * **If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?**

Basic games, skyrim etc nothing too taxing for a modern gpu

    * **Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?**

Good keyboard would be a must

    * **Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.**

I currently have a Dell 7537 that is falling apart, what I liked about it was it has a 4510-U processor, GT 750m GPU and a 57Whr battery. I can't see anything on the market that has a U processor, some basic graphics and a decent sized battery. A lot of the new laptops in this range seem constrained to 40 Whr, which is fine until the battery starts to degrade over time. As a result I'm looking at an XPS 15, but I think the specs could be a bit overkill for my needs. I see LG have the gram 15 but it's ridiculously overpriced here in Ireland.

Architecture and Gaming Lightweight Laptop, $1500, Philippines

    Posted: 03 Apr 2019 04:16 AM PDT

Total budget and country of purchase:

Around 1500 USD, could be slightly higher or lower. Philippines.

Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply.

Not the highest priority as long as it meets the requirements. Of a good battery will be handy.

How important is weight and thinness to you?

Very Important. However please still suggest laptops that may not be so thin or light.

Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux.

    Windows

Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.

    13-15 doesn't matter.

Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.

All of the above and a lot of music production as well.

If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?

Good enough to play smoothly on 1080p or 720p on overwatch and fifa 19 on medium to medium-high settings.

Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?

A reliable build quality would be handy.

Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.

Bummed how I spilled water on my XPS 15 and a new motherboard would cost as much as a new laptop. I would really want to experience the same feeling when using the suggested laptop. I could still be able to recycle its 16gb ram and 500gb SSD so low storage and ram would be fine I guess.

Lightweight + decent display and graphics for $1800

    Posted: 02 Apr 2019 11:40 PM PDT

    • Total budget and country of purchase: $1800, US. I want to spend the full $1800 because work is paying for it and that is my budget for it.

    • Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply. Best specs.

    • How important is weight and thinness to you? Pretty important as this will be carried often.

    • Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux. Windows or Mac.

    • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. 13-15 in

    • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. I would love to run games with decent graphics but it is a work computer. Whatever thin, portable laptop of the options plays the best games would be cool.

    • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? I play demanding games on console at the moment so I would say pretty narrative games with good graphics but not a lot of fast-paced combat or huge open worlds.

    • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? Good keyboard.

    • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. This is a laptop my work is buying me, so thin and light and decent keyboard (and not named something like Predator lol) are more important, but I would like to find the best display + graphics you can find on a lightweight laptop.

I was planning to get a base level 13 inch MB Pro for $1799 and forgetting the gaming possibilities but I am open to other options if they aren't too thick.

I was looking at the Hp spectre x360 13t gem cut but I dont like the reflective screen. I would also prefer something that runs windows.

Looking for a gaming laptop at Best Buy to last for a while

    Posted: 02 Apr 2019 08:09 PM PDT

I'd like something fairly new so that it doesn't get replaced soon, relatively lightweight, and fast (SSD). I don't do serious gaming much anymore but would appreciate the ability to play them easily should I get the time. Currently I play digital card games and fighting games. I've always loved MMOs but life doesn't allow it now. Money is not too much an issue since I will be using my Best Buy Credit Card for 0% interest if paid within X months. I'm unsure if I want a 17" or 15" screen. I do not have a desktop and I will continue to use my MacBook Air for portability to/from work. I also own a Nintendo Switch and Xbox One S Buy my daughter tends to hog those.

I'm preliminarily thinking this one looks good and has good reviews, but I'm open to suggestions: https://www.bestbuy.com/site/msi-gs-series-stealth-17-3-gaming-laptop-intel-core-i7-16gb-memory-nvidia-geforce-gtx-2070-512gb-solid-state-drive-matte-black-with-gold-diamond-cut/6322051.p?skuId=6322051

    • Total budget and country of purchase: $3000 USA

    • Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply. Specs

    • How important is weight and thinness to you? Quite important because the gaming laptop I currently have is a heavy beast. I'd say anything under 10 pounds

    • Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux. Windows

    • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. N/A

    • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. Gaming. I'd like to run most games easily. I currently play digital card games and fighters.

    • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? I want to be able to play newer games looking decently. I'm not huge into gaming but if a new game comes out I don't want to have to wonder if I can run it

    • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? Blu Ray drive would be nice but that's just an added bonus

    • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. See above everything

Should I buy the Zenbook 14 or wait for the Flip version to be released?

    Posted: 02 Apr 2019 06:54 PM PDT

The Zenbook Flip 13, 14 and 15 have already been released in Australia. I'm not sure how long it has been since the release and I also have no clue when it will be released in the US. I currently have the Zenbook Flip S but I broke the screen. Should I buy the regular Zenbook 14 and deal with it or should O wait for the Zenbook Flip 14 to be released, whenever that might be? The biggest issue is that I need it for university so it's a bit urgent. Anyways, I want to make a wise decision.

I'm looking for something that I'm going to use for work, which will require me to run vagrant virtual machines, ansible, codeception, and in general software used for programming. I'll most likely be swapping the OS out for Linux when I get it.

Currently I've been trying to find laptops that have an i7 (i5 should be fine but I just prefer i7) and 8gb of RAM. SSD is preferable but not exactly necessary. With these specs I've been able to find some laptops around $800. I'd like for that to be the highest I go without tax.

I've found ASUS VivoBook S15 S510UA-DS71, and I know basically most Lenovo Thinkpads are solid choices. Anyone have any recommendations for what I need?

**Total budget and country of purchase:**

    $800, United States of America

    * **Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply.**

    Best specifications for money

**How important is weight and thinness to you?**

Not that much of an issue

**Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux.**

Linux, but if it's Windows I'll install Linux on my own so this isn't an issue

**Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.**

    > 15 inches. This one is more or less flexible

**Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.**

    Just software used for programming.

    - IDE's like VS Code

    - Ansible

    - Codeception

    - Vagrant Virtual Machines

**If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?**

    N/A

**Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?**

Good keyboard and build quality are definite pluses. This is meant for utility so touch screens, fingerprint scanners, etc. aren't the focus

**Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.**

    N/A

Looking for laptop good for Engineering and gaming purposes

    Posted: 02 Apr 2019 06:17 PM PDT

    • *Total budget and country of purchase: * roughly 2000$ (laptop I'm looking at now is 1900(msi gs65 rtx 2060) , but willing to go up to 2.5k ish)

    • *Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply. * I need something that will last me through the college day with productivity(so good battery life). I also would prefer an ips panel and 144hz screen.

    • *How important is weight and thinness to you? * Looking for something decently thin, that won't be a hassle to carry around everyday (in a backpack), and low weight, nothing over 6 pounds

    • *Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux. * Windows 10

    • *Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. * 15-15.6 inches

    • *Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. * Assuming I will have to do Autocad in the future, and I plan to play some intensive games, I will probably play battle Royale games(fortnite, apex, etc) , and want to play the metro series as well on decently high settings. I like First person shooter games as well.

    • *If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? * I want something that will get me 100+ at 1080p

    • *Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? * good input devices

    • *Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. * Currently looking at the msi gs65 rtx 2060 model. I saw some other students at student orientations with the same laptop, and I assume it will fit my needs from what I researched, just looking for other options as well. Also, I won't be buying until around May so by then better options may be available. And also I want something that doesn't look rediculously gamer or anything, I'm okay with an rgb keyboard aslong as it has programmable colors.

    Thanks:)

Advice for choosing 16GB RAM for a laptop?

    Posted: 02 Apr 2019 06:11 PM PDT

I have a laptop Toshiba SATELLITE C55DT-A5244 with 4GB RAM, and would like to use it for learning Hadoop and its ecosystem (normally require 10GB+ RAM). Its manual (https://cdgenp01.csd.toshiba.com/content/product/pdf_files/detailed_specs/satellite_C55Dt-A5244.pdf) says

    Processor and Graphics:

AMD Quad Core A4-5000 Accelerated Processor with AMD RadeonTM HD 8330 Graphics

    1.5 GHz, 2MB L2 Cache

    Memory

    Configured with 6GB DDR3 1333MHz (max 16GB)

2 main memory slots. Both slots are occupied

So I am looking for 16GB RAM. My situation:

    - I am in a tight budget, so I tend to go with the least expensive product.

    - This is my first time buying a RAM, not very sure about the brands/manufactures (Samsung, Crucial, etc), and frequencies and other specification requirements.

So I was wondering if you could

    - give some advice on what RAM specifications I shall look for?

    - give some recommendations on products, and also commend on the following list of products?

    Thanks!

    1. (Samsung) 16GB Laptop RAM 2x 8GB 2RX8 DDR3 1600MHz PC3-12800S 204PIN SODIMM Memory 1.5V #H, $47.83 (https://www.ebay.com/itm/16GB-Laptop-RAM-2x-8GB-2RX8-DDR3-1600MHz-PC3-12800S-204PIN-SODIMM-Memory-1-5V-H/253863611882)

    Strategy Gaming Laptop

    Posted: 02 Apr 2019 06:03 PM PDT

    • Total budget and country of purchase: Maximum I'd like to spend is about $1200. I'd prefer to spend $800-$900. I'm in the USA. *

Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply. Best specifications for the money. *

How important is weight and thinness to you? Not very important. If anything, I'd like something that's sturdy and reliable. *

Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux. Windows. *

Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. No preferred screen size, but nothing tiny. *

Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. Apart from strategy games, just internet browsing, basic programs like MS Office, etc. As far as the gaming, the most important thing is that it can run Paradox Interactive products like Hearts of Iron, Europa Universalis, and Victoria as smoothly as possible. I'd also like to be able to run Total War games and Civilization well too. *

If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? See above as far as specific games. Obviously I'd love to be able to run everything at max, but I understand if that's not possible for games like Total War. As long as it runs well at medium settings, I'm happy. *

Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? Again, reliable is good because I can see myself lugging it around, and shit can happen. Not that I plan on throwing the thing at a wall, but I'd like it to at least have a chance of surviving some horrible mishap. A good keyboard for writing and gaming would be cool too. I could see myself playing a lot of older FPS and RPG games, and that's where the keyboard matters. *

Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. I might have my prices out of whack, because I haven't bought a laptop in about five or six years. If I have to spend more, so be it. Still, I'd really like to reconnect with this hobby sooner rather than later so if there are good options in the <$1000, then I'd love to hear your guys' recommendations. Seriously, any input is really appreciated. I'm also trying to save for a car, so the laptop is secondary... I really don't want to spend as much on the laptop as I could on an older but reliable economobile.

I just got a notification that this laptop is $700 off on Amazon and it looks like a hell of a deal on a gaming laptop. Anyone see anything wrong with it for the price?
