Indexing Service and Cortana need to be separate Posted: 02 Apr 2019 08:00 AM PDT They're not the same, and I hate the sleezy way they're trying to push Cortana by doing so. Disabling Cortana should not disable the Indexing Service as it once was. I don't want to hear any BS about how Cortana is necessary for it to work, as it isn't, wasn't, and never should have been tied together. Make Windows Search Useful Again! [link] [comments]
Posted: 02 Apr 2019 07:04 PM PDT You might be able to see that when I move the cursor above the taskbar icon of a window, a preview with a slight blurriness to it pops-up but when I move the cursor above that preview, it suddenly gets transparent and allows you to see through it. Is this normal or a bug? [link] [comments]
Posted: 02 Apr 2019 06:49 PM PDT At my university I have to sign in through their portal for my school with my account credentials. After I input them and accept it takes about 5 seconds to verify and connect. I was trying to play overwatch with friends today and after about 10 seconds into the main menu my internet was getting kicked. I tried signing in several times and launching the game and the same issue happened. Now when I try to connect and I put my credentials in, before it can access the schools server for verification I get redirected to a url with Gstatic. I have a feeling this is preventing me from connecting to the server and not letting me sign in but I cant figure out how to get rid of gstatic. It's not on my app's, malwarebytes didnt pick anything up, and I cant find it manually in my files. Does anyone have any idea how to fix this? [link] [comments]
GPU usage dropping to below 30% every 3-6 seconds. Posted: 02 Apr 2019 06:36 PM PDT Ok so i've owned my computer now for about a year but i have noticed that past couple of months when i try to play games after my PC has been on for few hours i will get stuttering in games, in monitoring software GPU usage is dropping to 0-30% every 3-6 seconds and causes huge frame drops. If i play after a fresh boot it will be fine 8 times out of 10. I first encounted the problem with Resident Evil 2 Remake and now its happening to with everything, Im trying to enjoy Sekiro but it isnt going well. Specs; 8700K (5GHz) / 16GB DDR4 (4000MHz) / GTX1080 Ti (Stock) / Asus Strix Z370i / EVGA GOLD 650W Samsung EVO 860 250GB OS drive Samsung EVO 860 1TB SSD Steam drive Monitor; Samsung curved QLED 1440p 144Hz CPU Delidded so temps never go above 65c on watercooling and GPU maxes around 76c at 40% fan speed. 3Dmark stress tests show 99% stability. I have tried using many different nvidia drivers, removing any overclocks in the bios, removing fps monitoring like afterburner, uninstalling and reinstalling games on my different SSDs, disabled windows defender, changing to max performance mode in nvidia control panel, changing to ultimate performance mode in windows control panel to stop CPU drops, playing with Vsync on/off, max to low settings and nothing has worked. I rarely have anything running in the background when i play games i usually close everything. When i was using afterburner software (apart from the stutter) everything looked normal in game and on GPUZ monitor, example.. Resident Evil 2 Remake 98% GPU usage - 74c 17-45% CPU usage - 56c Max settings at 1440p (127fps) The way i have to play at the moment is restart and then go straight in to game because i do anything else (chrome, music, videos) im risking a stutter fest. I would love to get it fixed, any help very much appreciated. [link] [comments]
Posted: 02 Apr 2019 06:31 PM PDT Hello all, for the past few days in the notification tab the "restart pc for drive error" keeps on popping up. I restarted several times over the course of the days and even repaired the drive a couple of times. Sadly this error keeps on popping up. Is this a bug or an issue with the pc? Need drivers for windows 10 that fit in a 3.7gb boot drive Posted: 02 Apr 2019 12:31 PM PDT Hello, sorry to bother you people, I'm in a bit of an issue, I have only 1 USB device, I cannot buy another one, or a new one I'm afraid, I only have 1 USB with space for 3.7 GB of data, I used to use it to format my PC before (and an idiot I know took it away, messed with it, and now all data it had is lost) I tried using the windows tool to make a new boot device, but apparently now it needs 8 GB, I wanted to know if it's possible that someone shares with me a way to download Windows 10 (I updated from W7 when it was free so I use original) Thanks a lot for taking the time to read and to help if you do [link] [comments]
Posted: 02 Apr 2019 12:53 PM PDT If I make a system image of my Surface Pro 3 using the built in feature in the Control Panel would I be able to restore that image on a new laptop or would the image only work for that specific machine? [link] [comments]
WMP showing everything as unknown Posted: 02 Apr 2019 08:51 AM PDT My 2000 or so songs on my windows media player are showing unknown and won't play any of them even though my music is still all in the same files as always, any help? [link] [comments]
Is there a way of creating clone copies of bootable USB drives? Posted: 02 Apr 2019 08:29 AM PDT Say for example, one IT department had a bootable USB drive that was used for reimaging PCs and laptops. How would you go about copying the image to create more USB drives? I doubt that just copying all of the files to a folder would work. [link] [comments]
Stutter / Freezing / Buzzing, please help. Posted: 02 Apr 2019 08:02 AM PDT I am currently having an issue with this weird audio/visual glitch that seems to happen at random. You can see it in action here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qBtwHudKwDA That's not me, its from 3 years ago, but it's the exact problem I'm experiencing. In words I would describe it as the split second before a blue screen when the audio seems to freeze / buzz and your frames start skipping but it resolves in under a second. It seems to happen around 1x every 30-60 minutes. I just started encountering this issue within the past month or so. I recently upgraded my PC. Here are the steps I have taken:
None of these fixes seemed to resolve the issue permanently. If anyone could help me out please that would be great. [link] [comments]
Any TextExpander app with previews? Posted: 02 Apr 2019 11:11 AM PDT I've been using AutoHotkey for text expansion for the longest time by mi snippets library is starting to get impossible to remember. In most cases I'm not even using expansion because I can;t remember the abbreviation I used anymore. I was wondering if there was any app that had a UI for the snippets (kind of like most code editors) so that I could more easily use my snippets. [link] [comments]

Screen Captures partially blacked out Posted: 02 Apr 2019 10:26 AM PDT Since early February, every time I take a gif, screenshot, or screen share the result is a mess of pixels usually with two black bars covering up portions of the capture. I've updated drivers, uninstalled/reinstalled screen capture apps and restarted to no avail. Examples: https://gyazo.com/eba8543cab1405114b8e1621903605e5 https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/485141302988505099/562332815832645809/unknown.png [link] [comments]
Help: Dynamic/Adaptive Auto Contrast in Windows 10 due to Chrome Posted: 01 Apr 2019 08:55 PM PDT I've been trying to fix my my setting for 3 days now finding why it was adjusting contrast based on the screen contents. I tried the Surface Pro fix, updated my video cards (uninstalled, reinstalled), adjusted the color profiles, calibrated the screen, and tried to mess with regedit's dynamic contrast. After doing all those, I realized that Chrome was the culprit. Whenever Chrome was turned off the contrast adjustments never happened. I just want to ask if some people are experiencing the same thing and if they have a fix. Thanks! [link] [comments]

How risky will using windows 7 for online gaming and browsing websites be after 2020? Posted: 01 Apr 2019 09:27 PM PDT I understand that after 2020 there will no longer be security updates to windows 7. If I am cautious and stay away from sketchy websites, can I still use my windows 7 desktop for browsing websites and playing games online without getting viruses? No important personal data will be stored on this pc other than stuff from steam and discord, so I'm not that worried. [link] [comments]
