Laptop Suggestions - Fast, affordable, reliable, strong battery, etc.... Posted: 03 Apr 2019 08:57 PM PDT * **Total budget and country of purchase:** Around $1k more or less - USA * **Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply.** Not sure how I feel about a 2 in 1. I'm concerned about a short eventually occurring in the monitor. Great battery life is crucial. * **How important is weight and thinness to you?** Weight and thinness are important to me, but I'm willing to give in to a laptop that may be a bit heavier if it provides a better overall performance at a good price. * **Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux.** Windows * **Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.** Currently have a 15.6 inch monitor, so I do not want to get anything smaller than that. A larger screen would be nice, but not entirely necessary. * **Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.** Primarily run the standard Office Suite programs. Occasionally I'll run games. Would be nice to be able to have a system that can actually support gaming. * **If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?** Unsure which FPS would be best, but would love something that will not experience stuttering. My current laptop is fairly basic and cannot handle gaming well. * **Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?** Not a huge fan of touch-screen for a laptop, but not against having that as an option either. A good keyboard is crucial as I do a TON of typing. 10-key is necessary as well. My primary concern with purchasing a new laptop is that it is integrative with my Office programs and also functions well with programs such as Chrome or Firefox. I'm also a huge Sticky Notes user, if that makes any difference. Good quality web cam is crucial. I would also prefer a laptop with speakers that are actually loud. My current laptop speakers are so quiet. The final thing that I would find absolutely necessary is that there are several USB ports, at least one HDMI port, and of course the standard VGA cable port. Acer Swift 3 OR Asus Vivobook S14 OR...? Posted: 03 Apr 2019 02:10 PM PDT Good morning guys! I need some help with deciding which laptop to choose. My budget is about 800-900€. Those are my main expectations:
Things that do not bother me:
Alright, so my first favourite one was the Lenovo Y530. Terrific design, but I guess it kinda lacks portability and the battery life. Then I stumbled upon the Swift 3 and, except for the design bothering me a little, I really like it. However, the Vivobook S14 seems quite decent too, especially the design, which is why I can't decide between those two. What would you advise? Or, are there even better laptops for me? Thanks in advance! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 03 Apr 2019 11:51 PM PDT Country/budget: Canada, $1000 +/- $100 Good batter life: prefer 7+ hours, would like best available specs for the money Weight/thinness: Would prefer something lightweight, less than 4 pounds OS: windows preferred screen size: 13/15.6 inch No editing/CAD, light gaming if possible (fortnite low-medium settings 60 fps At very least 1920 x 1080 resolution but I would really want something better, laptop is being used for university/ lots of entertainment (which is why I want good resolution) A laptop I've been looking at is the Lenovo ideapad 730s 13" or the Ideapad 330s 15.6" (any thoughts/review on it would be appreciated) Thanks in advance [link] [comments] |

Posted: 03 Apr 2019 07:27 PM PDT I hope this doesn't go against any rules, but I was hoping for just a rough idea on a laptop I am potentially looking to buy. It's an Alienware laptop off craigslist, and the seller seems competent. Everything looks clean from the photos and the description for the specs are as follows. "Windows 10 Intel i5-4300 3.1ghz 8gb ram Nvidia 760m 1tb hdd 250gb ssd Comes with original box charger and gaming mouse" It's listed for 400, and I know it's not a lot of info, but curious if it seems to be a decent deal or better to pass it up. Thanks for any and all help. [link] [comments] |
Asus Zenbook Pro UX680GE or MSI GS63VR 7RG Posted: 03 Apr 2019 07:10 PM PDT Need help deciding which laptop I should get. They're both the same price here in my area since the GS63 is on sale. Here are the specs Asus Zenbook Pro I7 8750 hexa core 16GB ddr4 Nvidia GTX 1050ti 4gb GDDR5 15.6" FHD screen MSI GS63 I7 7700H Quad Core 16GB ddr4 Nvidia GTX1070 Max-Q 8GB GDDR5 15.6" FHD screen My only worry with the asus is the throttling issuses while for the MSI its an older model. Computer Science and Engineering Laptop, budget ~2k Posted: 03 Apr 2019 02:00 PM PDT
Currently I am an undecided engineering major in either computer science or electrical/computer engineering. FYI, I'd like this laptop to last me quite a few years and don't want it easily outdated. So I'm not sure if those specifications from my college (like for example the screen size, I don't care what size it is) help or not, especially since it says this is the minimum recommendations. Posted: 03 Apr 2019 06:52 PM PDT * **Total budget and country of purchase:** Budget 600-1200 USD * **Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply.** I'm split here--I think 2 in 1 w/ stylus would be beneficial--but good battery life and performance are more important--I would like at least 6+ hours for battery life * **How important is weight and thinness to you?** Would like weight below 3.5 pounds, thinner the better but not overly important. * **Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux.** Windows * **Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.** 13-15, probably leaning towards 13 * **Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.** N/A * **If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?** N/A * **Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?** Reliability and a good keyboard experience is very important. I would want a USB-C, doesn't need to be thunderbolt. * **Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.** I would be willing to pay extra and size up for decent sound. Main purpose is to take to and from work, with the occasional (3-4) business trips a year. Nothing graphics related needed--anything that would help stay more efficient and organized would be a plus. Posted: 03 Apr 2019 06:49 PM PDT Hey everyone, I'm trying to help my girlfriend find a good 2 in 1 laptop for college. The price range is about $500 so I'd like to know what is the best we could get for that amount
Best specs and best battery ideally, something that is good to take with you the whole day How important is weight and thinness to you Big factor for school, just something that wouldn't be crazy to carry all the time Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Windows Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. N/A Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. It would be for school work, she intends to be running some geographic programs so possibly CAD-ish Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? Overall it needs to be a 2 in 1, have touch, and support a pen Thank you for your help everyone! [link] [comments] |
College student going into IT work - I also have an idea of a laptop [Feedback please] Posted: 03 Apr 2019 06:09 PM PDT *Total budget and country of purchase:* $1000 - $1300 USA *Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply.* Best specifications for the money, Ram and CPU are important *How important is weight and thinness to you?* Love thinness. *Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux.* Windows *Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.* N/A *Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.* This is for IT work. I will be using virtual machines, server emulators, coding software. Would like to be able to edit too! *If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?* No gaming. Not interested in GPU, LEDs, or ANY gaming aesthetic. *Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?* I love the aesthetic of small screen bezels. Touch screen is a plus. SSD is a must. A trustworthy product is preferable. *Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. My old gaming laptop is falling apart. I'm no longer into gaming on it - i've built a beefy PC in the meantime, so there is no reason to on a laptop anymore. I need this laptop for school, and I already have one in mind. I will absolutely take ANY suggestions, but tell me what you think about this laptop. It has a beautiful aesthetic - Its like a ripoff macbook with an amazing bezel AND it operates on windows. That's a win win in my book. On top of that, the i7-85 is a little bit better than what I currently, so that's nice. The SSD is also a win. I would prefer it had 32gb Ram, but I can't complain. Thanks! [link] [comments] |

Ultraportable Ultrasmall Laptop Posted: 03 Apr 2019 07:12 AM PDT * **Total budget and country of purchase:** Looking to spend anywhere from $4-800 USD, USA. * **Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply.** I'd like decent battery life, to an extent. I'm looking for something ultraportable so I know battery may not be the best. * **How important is weight and thinness to you?** I want something as small and light as possible. * **Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux.** I would prefer windows, would do chrome or linux, and would not like Mac. I don't have any specific requirements since most of the things I'll be doing are web based. * **Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.** I'd like something small, 12" max. * **Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.** None of the above, just web based office work and some homework. * **If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?** No gaming requirements, if anything simple mobile type games. * **Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?** I would love a good keyboard, build quality, and maybe touchscreen. * **Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.** The goal for this laptop is to have something ultra portable that I can carry around with me daily for simple tasks. I currently have a powerful gaming desktop (which is pretty much exclusively used for gaming) and a surface book 2 (which I use for most of my mobile tasks, but is bigger and heavier than I would like for daily use). In the new computer I'd like something small and light with great build quality. The 12" macbook is something that comes to mind as being ideal, but it is expensive, the keyboard is horrible, and I would prefer to not have mac os. I definitely don't want a tablet type 2-in-1 that uses a stand and keyboard case type form factor. I've considered, the 12 macbook, pixelbook, and the new xps 13, but would still like to be smaller. I've considered a GPD pocket as well. Any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated! If anyone wants additional info let me know! [link] [comments] |
