Anyone, know,if the 4 year protection plan for laptops on amazon is worth it? Posted: 31 Mar 2019 12:26 PM PDT Thinking,of,buying an acer e15 for $599 and was thinking,of,getting the 4 year protection plan for $113. Has anyone used this to their benefit? Is worth it with it being 1/5 the cost of the laptop itself? Edit: I bought it without the warranty. I hope i dont get a dud lol. [link] [comments]
Laptops recommendations - content creation and gaming Posted: 31 Mar 2019 12:47 PM PDT Hi everyone, I'm looking for a new laptop for content creations and some light gaming. I really liked the new Dell XPS 15 until I've read countless complaints online about overheating, throttling, faulty thermal paste etc. If anyone does have a Dell XPS 15, their opinion is appreciated. I currently have my eyes on the 2019 Razer Blade 15. I love the build quality and they seem like solid machines although I've never owned a Razer. They're also pricier and aren't as configurable. (Having a 4K panel would be great but you also need to upgrade to the 2070 which isnt as necessary for my needs). It would be nice to be able to get the 4K panel with the RTX 2060. I've also heard about the MSI GS65 and nee Alienware m15 (though I'm not sure about Dell anymore). I haven't been able to see these laptops in person but I've read decent reviews. I'll be doing a lot of HD and 4K video editing on the machine and occasionally some light gaming. If anybody has some opinions, I'm all ears! [link] [comments]

Windows laptop with thunderbolt 2 connection? Posted: 31 Mar 2019 02:02 PM PDT Does it exist? Am I bound to become a mac user? I know they exist with thunderbolt 3, but I need to convert from firewire 800 because of my audio interface. [link] [comments]

Is this setup a good alternative to desktop pc? Posted: 31 Mar 2019 01:07 PM PDT So rather building a desktop pc I'm thinking about getting a good powerful laptop Razer blade 15 or msi gs65 and separately a good monitor (possibly full hd or 2k screen). I can connect the laptop to screen when I have to watch videos and play games and can do other work related tasks on the go. Initially I thought its a good setup but I'm worried about if the laptop would be able to handle the screen. Has anyone tried this setup run into problems. What's are the possible risks here? When I adjust the screen or close the lid, it depresses the power button. Posted: 31 Mar 2019 01:03 PM PDT I've got a Samsung Series 7 Chronos. I got it back in 2013. Lately whenever I adjust the screen the power button depresses and causes my computer to shut itself off, even if I was in the middle of something. It's infuriating. I think it's because of the chassis warping slightly. I'd love to replace it, but I can't afford to. And not only is this my "daily driver" but it's my only functioning PC. Any advice would be appreciated. I'll also be glad to share additional information if needed. [link] [comments]
Exists? 4k - 15.6 inch - 120 hz - Ultrabook? - $2k Posted: 31 Mar 2019 12:43 PM PDT Time to upgrade! Looking for opinions. Interested in a 4k screen on a 15.6 inch (or maybe 17 inch in 15.6 inch form factor or 15.6 inch in 13 inch form factor). In addition to the 4k, may also want 120 hz screen. Purpose of laptop will mainly be media consumption and basic office work. May also play some games, especially 2D artsy games that should really benefit from the higher resolution and possible the more fluid hz rate as well. Just need a basic video card. MX150 or GTX 1050. Part of the reason I want the 4k and higher hz is that I'm thinking of using Shadow cloud rentals if I want to get into beefier gaming and want a screen that can display the goods. I'd rather have great thermals and light weight than a beefy GPU. I was thinking of waiting for the Dell XPS 2019 refresh to see what it has - but I'm tired of waiting and want to see what else is out there. Around 4 pounds and lighter works. I just have a dinosaur of a laptop and am tired of it stalling when just having tabs open on my browser. Thanks! [link] [comments]
Is it worth buying the battery of a 2011 Mac air? Posted: 31 Mar 2019 04:53 AM PDT So I live in Mexico and pretty much all laptops are usually $100 more expensive compared to america. I just want my laptop to use clip paint studio (digital art) and that's petty much the most resource demanding thing. I have a mac air 2011 laptop that works well except for the battery. It would cost me around $118 dollars to get a new original battery in a local repair place. But I'm afraid that if my charger would also get screwed and in need of being replaced ($88) dollars. ($206 dollars worst case scenario!) I just want it to last 2 years until I save for something better and more in the $500+ range. And I'm also sick of apple's expensive hidden repair fees. Would it be better to just buy another laptop ($250) range now like the an hp 240 g3 or just buy a new battery? [link] [comments]
Acer laptop repair/cleaning problem Posted: 31 Mar 2019 12:09 PM PDT Hello guys So I just tried to clean and repaste my laptop 'cause Ive been using it for 2 years and its already showing some thermal issues, and I really had a hard time doing it. I cant unscrew the heat sink so I only managed to clean only the fan. I dont know if the screw or the hardware is the problem or my screwdriver. Uhhhmm is it okay to put pressure in unscrewing the heat sink which is attached to the motherboard? Any advice? I already did the rubberband trick and it didnt worked. [link] [comments]
What should be the Baseline for what i'm looking for? Posted: 31 Mar 2019 11:46 AM PDT I've never owned a laptop, always owned PCs. I'm looking for a new laptop, primarily because in July I'll be taking the bar exam. As such, whatever I get will need to be 100% reliable so there are no worries of crashes, unexpected errors, etc. However, beyond that, I'd like to get into some gaming on the laptop, to the extent possible. Would I be okay in looking at a "gaming laptop" from some place like Best Buy? New Egg? Are there specific "specs" I should be targeting? Edit: I should have mentioned, my price range is somewhere between $750 - $1500. I could conceivably push up to $2k, but I'd prefer not to unless absolutely necessary. Ideally, I'd just be running games like Rocket League and Overwatch, so I don't know how much that impacts my query. [link] [comments]
I’ve to purchase a laptop for class Posted: 31 Mar 2019 11:23 AM PDT My budget is $400 and I'm looking for something with a good screen, performance and build quality. Any suggestions ? [link] [comments]
Fresh Win10 Install brought temps down 15C on my gaming laptop...? Posted: 31 Mar 2019 06:56 AM PDT I have an ASUS ROG Zephyrus (GTX 1080Maxq, i7-7700HQ), and was having weird issues with windows, like control panel not working correctly. Unable to access display settings and sound settings. When I first bought this laptop it ran like butter and idled at about 35-40C. Over time and since the weird issues started, the idles have gone up to a steady 60C, and gaming brought GPU to 90+ and CPU to 95+ I didn't think a reinstall of Windows would bring the temps down, but I am back to idling at 40-45C which is a HUGE improvement. Curious as to why.... I am always careful not to have a bunch of junk running in the background, so it's a bit baffling. I'll take it though. [link] [comments]
Is the Asus ROG GL704GV Strix Scar II 17.3 inch a good enough gaming laptop? Posted: 31 Mar 2019 10:24 AM PDT The reason I ask is because I couldn't find any extensive reviews on it - youtube and articles. I can find ample of materials on the 15 inch varient with RTX 2060 and even bench mark comparisons on the zephyrus GX701 against competitive brands. I am seriously considering of buying the Strix scar II because the 17 inch + RTX2060 looked amazing (in demo) and the keyboard and track pad are huge. but if it isn't upto the performance of other RTX 2060 laptops, then I dont want to drop almost 2 Grand on it. Please share your thoughts on this particular laptop. [link] [comments]
HP Envy 13 or ASUS Zenbook 13? Posted: 30 Mar 2019 07:22 PM PDT As the title suggests I'm considering to get either the HP Envy 13 (there's two models which is the i5 and Ryzen5 version, I'll elaborate why I'm considering the Ryzen5 as well) or the ASUS Zenbook 13 i5. I'm planning to use the laptop mostly for web browsing, video watching, casual coding, photo editing, might want to start video editing but not extensive, and slight casual gaming mostly for FPS games only to play with friends (ie Fortnite, APEX, CS, DotA) since I already have a PS4 for more intense gaming ( FPS for console is not my kinda thing ). I'm considering the Ryzen5 model because of the touchscreen and 360 flip feature, I plan to use it as a song sheet when I'm performing on stage as I am currently my girlfriends iPad but didn't want to spend too much dough on my own tablet. However Ryzen5 is new territory for me, so I am not too sure how good it is compared to an i5 processor. Price difference between the Ryzen model and the i5 model is about RM1k? ( I'm guessing with the exchange rate, it's around $300? Ryzen is the cheaper one) So I would appreciate any insights on the these 3 laptops and advices on which one I should purchase. Should I stick to an i5 processor and just forgo the touchscreen feature (it's not a hard constraint more of a nice to have convenient to use thing) or go with the Ryzen5? Thanks in advance! Posted: 31 Mar 2019 04:02 AM PDT I need a new laptop because I left my old one on top of my car, drove off with it and it fell off and got run over by a truck lol. I have very little idea about what I want/need but I use it for internet streaming, downloads and running music/video editing software. I used to have a 2014 macbook pro (so it was probably time for an upgrade anyway) but it would chronically overheat and battery life was shot when running any sort of editing software. I did like how light weight and durable it was. I'm not super against macbooks but I definitely know that pretty much anything else will be better value for money. I know what specs are good and what's not so good but I dont know I dont know what or where to start in terms of finding a brand or model. Please tell me how to spend my money. [link] [comments]
Can barely find laptops with HDD nowadays... Posted: 31 Mar 2019 09:40 AM PDT I am looking forward to upgrade my 5-year laptop to a new one, but here in the UK almost every brand has moved from HDD to SDD types of storage. Since my budget is £500 (I only want it for watching movies/browsing the Internet), most laptops within that price range come with SSD and with very low amount of storage (up to 256 GB). Is my search criteria wrong or are SSD really the future? I can barely find any laptops with 1TB HDD's anymore... Any recommendations? Thank you. [link] [comments]
Posted: 31 Mar 2019 09:21 AM PDT I can't really decide which one to choose Apple macbook air ( i5 option ) or HP envy 13t ( i7 option ) for university purposes. Part wise HP seems better and it is a bit cheaper as well. Any advice? Thank you! [link] [comments]

Is USB4 good for the laptop industry? Posted: 31 Mar 2019 08:59 AM PDT I have heard that USB4 is just around the corner. But as the description, I see it having not many difference from the Thunderbolt 3, except for some minor innovations I don't know if it will be a mess again. Thunderbolt is decent yet there's still issue with, and now we're so close to get another multi-functional ports Opinion everyone? Best laptop to get for college/university work? Posted: 31 Mar 2019 07:58 AM PDT I currently have a laptop but it's really slow and takes forever to load things up, does anyone have any suggestions about fast laptops that would also be able to run apps on steam? Thanks [link] [comments]
Posted: 30 Mar 2019 11:00 PM PDT Hi all, i just change thermal paste on my HP Pavilion Gaming 15. The thing is i have someone do it for me, and now the GPU is 5 celcius higher than normal. Is there any chance that he forget to change the thermal paste. And i am wondering what is the temperature difference between normal paste for both CPU and GPU and thermal paste for only CPU in a laptop gaming. Thanks in advance [link] [comments]
Posted: 31 Mar 2019 01:34 AM PDT My brother's been using my old laptop that I've lent him. He plugged it into a potential variator (whatever that is) at work and basically sent 400V through the ethernet port. What components could I salvage? [link] [comments] |
