For some reason even with Wi-Fi enabled, Pornhub videos won't play at all. YouTube plays but defaults to 144p?

iPhone being used for DOS attack and I don't know how to proceed/stop it.

    Posted: 04 Feb 2019 09:24 PM PST

So its been a long 24 hours as I've tried to piece everything together and figure out what the hell is wrong. But first a little background on the problem at hand.

This past Sunday I experienced difficulties with my router and connection to several devices especially my iPhone 6. After a few minutes of internet, It would remain connected to the router, but I would lose internet access. I could switch to back and forth between my 5GHz and 2.4GHz channels and i would get internet for a minute then it would stop again. Most of my main devices are wired so I figured it was my router being stupid. On a hunch i decided to check to make sure my firmware was up to date and i decided to look into the logs.

To my surprise, i was greeted with hundreds of lines telling me that a DoS attack was being performed. They were either Ping of Death, illegal fragments, or teardrop/derivatives. Each line on the log showed the IP source was coming from England, and the target addresses were anything from Chase bank and the British Ministry of Defense to some small college in NJ or even Comcast/AT&T.

During this time I noticed a trend. The attacks were only occurring when my iphone was connected to the internet as my laptop, desktop, or other devices didn't seem to be provoking the attack. When my internet on my device was disabled the attacks stopped, and when i switched to a different channel they resumed until the internet on the device was cut off again. Today while I was at work no attacks occurred and the only thing that changed was my phone was in my pocket. I am 99% certain that it is my phone but I don't know how to fix this.

I've tried updating to the latest ios firmware. I've tried backing up everything and doing a hard reset and the attacks continue when the phone comes back online fully clean (nothing restored at all). I've tried messing with settings in the router but nothing seems to work. I've googled about everything I can and the most helpful things I've found I've already tried. Does anyone have any ideas about how to proceed? Am i wrong about the root cause being my phone? This is driving me crazy knowing that my device is being used like this.

    Thanks

Every time I poweroff my iPad and turn it on, a random app called "scorpion" tries to download

    Posted: 04 Feb 2019 12:26 PM PST

I have no idea what this app is and I don't know if I should be worried or not. It never download I don't think but every time I delete it, it shows up again after I power my iPad off and on. What should I do to get rid of it permanently and should I be worried about anything else because of this?

Fighting with Landlord over internet connection?

    Posted: 05 Feb 2019 02:45 AM PST

Hey guys, signed up to reddit just for this.

So I am renting a room myself in a complex where there are 2 houses and around 5 units. I believe the whole complex is using one internet connection which is distributed by multiple wifi repeaters.

The internet is absolutely terrible, it's 2019 and I cant watch anything at 1080p let alone 720p.

The landlord keeps saying "there is a nearby construction by the ISP which is interfering with the internet speed". Upon checking this out, there have been no constructions by any ISP in this area for the last 11 months.

Upon chatting with people that live in other units, they agree with me that the internet connection is beyond useless.

I want to bring this up with my landlord, but I need evidence that the internet connection is bad. Where should I get started? What tests can I run and what are some softwares I can use?

Do/can universities get an alert if you enter nsfw sites

    Posted: 05 Feb 2019 03:07 AM PST

Was on my phone using the schools wifi, I was in the middle showing my friend something and I clicked on a link which redirected me to a porn site, I didn't close it immediately but had it up for few minutes cause i closed my phone and just left it there for awhile. I know schools can track what you're doing but do/can schools get an alert if someone's using their wifi enters a NSFW website?

Is it possible I have a bad CPU that's causing my BSOD's?

    Posted: 05 Feb 2019 05:05 AM PST

Hello everyone, and thanks in advance for any help.

I've been facing this issue since I upgraded to a Ryzen 2600 System back in Oct. 2018.

At the time the build was as follows: Ryzen 5 26000 (overclocked at times, but issue persists at Stock as well) Cooled by a Cryorig H7 Plus MSI B450-A Plus (latest drivers at the time) 16GB G.Skill 3000MHz RAM Gigabyte Gaming G1 GTX 1070 (Up-to-date drivers) Corsair TX650m

My issue is that I cannot play games that use Anti Cheat services. This goes between BattleEye and EasyAntiCheat as far as I've tested. Across Origin or Steam. Games like Rising Storm 2, Apex Legends, 7 Days to Die, PUBG, Day of Infamy. These are all games I tested. Most of these I played on my previous system without issue (i5-4460, 12GB DDR3 RAM, same GPU and storage drives)

What happens is when the game loads up, I get the initial splash, and when the AntiCheat tries to load, my PC blue screens, with consistent errors always referencing the same things.

On Mon 2/4/2019 10:05:49 PM your computer crashed or a problem was reported crash dump file: C:\Windows\Minidump\020419-8781-01.dmp This was probably caused by the following module: ntoskrnl.exe (nt+0x1B1B40) Bugcheck code: 0x101 (0x10, 0x0, 0xFFFFA7007E280180, 0xB) Error: CLOCK_WATCHDOG_TIMEOUT file path: C:\Windows\system32\ntoskrnl.exe product: Microsoft® Windows® Operating System company: Microsoft Corporation description: NT Kernel & System Bug check description: This indicates that an expected clock interrupt on a secondary processor, in a multi-processor system, was not received within the allocated interval. On Mon 2/4/2019 9:34:57 PM your computer crashed or a problem was reported crash dump file: C:\Windows\Minidump\020419-9046-01.dmp This was probably caused by the following module: ntoskrnl.exe (nt+0x1B1B40) Bugcheck code: 0x101 (0x10, 0x0, 0xFFFF810171880180, 0xA) Error: CLOCK_WATCHDOG_TIMEOUT file path: C:\Windows\system32\ntoskrnl.exe product: Microsoft® Windows® Operating System company: Microsoft Corporation description: NT Kernel & System Bug check description: This indicates that an expected clock interrupt on a secondary processor, in a multi-processor system, was not received within the allocated interval. Possibly this problem is caused by another driver that cannot be identified at this time.

This crash occurs the same exact way every single time. I try to load the game in the respective service, splash loads, AntiCheat tries to load and the computer crashes. I never actually get into the game as long as EAC tries to load. If the game/launcher allows the game to be loaded without AntiCheat, I can open and play it just fine.

Since October, for similar issues, I've replaced the Motherboard with an MSI B450 Gaming Plus (now up-to-date drivers) and the RAM with 16GB Corsair Vengeance LED 3200MHz. The issues still persist and are easily replicated. I've tried nearly every solution I could find online. Ensuring every driver is up to date. Ensure Windows is up to date. I've competely re-installed Windows 10 from the latest ISO a couple times now. I've gone through and attempted deleting specific EasyAntiCheat files and repairing EasyAntiCheat and verifying game installations in Steam and Origin. I've swapped RAM sticks and tried them 1 at a time, across both the old and new motherboards. I downclocked my CPU to 2.0Ghz and set voltage to 1.38v, with A-XMP on and Off. Nothing seems to change the outcome at all.

I've attempted to contact EasyAntiCheat over the matter but have not received a response.

Would any of you wonderful folks have any suggestions for me?

    Nvidia GPU not detected.

    Posted: 04 Feb 2019 09:11 PM PST

Recently my laptop crashed while gaming, and would not start any games. I've traced the issue back to my GPU, but I'm pretty much stumped at that point on. I've tried everything from uninstalling previous drivers with DDU to loading default settings from BIOS. The current point I am at is trying to reinstall the current driver, but getting a message stating that there is no GPU detected on my computer.

The GPU is a Nvidia GeForce GTX 860M, and the computer is an Acer Aspire V17 Nitro Black Edition.

    Thanks in advance!

Tried restarting, downloading a new driver online, still does not work. Is there any way to solve this?

What should I do with my pre-installed Windows 10 pro SSD?

    Posted: 04 Feb 2019 11:04 PM PST

I recently got a new PC which came with Windows 10 pro pre-installed. I was able to use my old SSD with it so now have a new 240GB SSD with Windows 10 pro pre-installed.

I thought it was "ready to go" if I sold it but after googling a bit it doesn't seem to be the case that you can just buy a Windows SSD and it will just work fine?

It did not come with a licence key but two "recovery CDs" (called main OS recovery and Operating system recovery), I do not know really understand this part to be honest.

So my question is what can I do with this item? (If it is ok to sell it do I need to give information about the motherboard it was intended for, and what information would that be?)

Nearly dead laptop in my computer class

    Posted: 05 Feb 2019 04:56 AM PST

Hey r/techsupport, currently sitting with my laptop which is in my conputer class. We use it only when we have the computer class lesson (three times a week) and then I use it for everything. My problem is it is almost dead, the ventilator is loud as hell and the laptop turns off every 10 minutes on google chrome. I reported it to my teacher a thousand times, but she just said she couldn't do anything about it till it's dead. My question is what could I do about it, and a bit harder question, how do I make it die off a bit so it isn't directly my fault and it doesn't look like I killed it off.

    Laptop fps suddenly drops.

    Posted: 05 Feb 2019 04:35 AM PST

My laptop fps suddenly drops to below 60 fps it might even cap I don't know. I use the charger as well and it's not a defective charger cause i can see it's still charging and when i replug it it doesn't fix it.

It happens randomly and usually goes back in a few minutes to normal I usually run fortnite at 100-120 but it randomly drops to below 60. It might be a software problem as I just put an SSD and reinstalled the windows.

Specs if needed: Windows 10 16 GB ram Gtx 960m Intel i7 (not sure how many ghz/cores).

[Untraceable Posting] We are having a Healthcare crisis in Nova Scotia that the government is currently trying to deny exists. We have been contacted by a whistleblower, and I am looking for a good guide to making an untraceable reddit account for others to post. Any suggestions?

I have already given the advice of using Guerrilla Mail for making a reddit account, but I know that won't hide your IP address. I am wondering what the simplest method for hiding your IP address would be that we can walk someone not tech savvy through to be able to make their post.

Need help with D-link pi cams when their supports don’t want to

    Posted: 05 Feb 2019 04:12 AM PST

Hello, not sure if this is the right sub but here it goes.

Soo I have a d-link 2330L and a Pi on the same network and I can use curl to change camera settings like day or night mode. Anyway, my friend saw this with his 5000L which can spin and asked if I could do the same but with different camera positions. As I only have to enter URL to change the settings (curl 'http://admin@192.168.0.112/vb.htm?language=ie&dncontrolmode=1&irledmode=2&irledbrightness=0&usr=admin'
) I thought it would be as easy.

But no, the 5000L uses a POST method to http://IP/setControlPanTilt
with PanTiltPresetPositionMove=1 as data and that only gives me "The request is forbidden." in bold.

Support only recommends using their app which neither of us wants to as we're using HomeKit with HomeBridge

    Any suggestions?

PC shutting itself down as soon as I start it

    Posted: 05 Feb 2019 03:20 AM PST

    Hey,

Whenever I press the power button on my PC, the power blinks and my PC turns on for a split second before shutting down. When I press the power button again, nothing happens at all, until I remove the power cable and plug it back in after a certain period of time. (The same thing happens when I press the power button)

There's a light at the back of my PC connected to the PSU (I think) that's green while the power cable is connected, but as soon as I press the power button that light goes out too. It'll only turn on if I remove the power cable and plug it back in a while later, only for it to shut off again when I press the power button. I've tried a different cable already.

Windows 7 : Bluetooth just refuses to find any device

    Posted: 04 Feb 2019 11:30 PM PST

About five days ago, my built in bluetooth on my motherboard stopped detecting any devices.

At first I thought it was an issue with the Asus p8z68-v pro bluetooth drivers. I reinstalled them a few times but still I got nothing. I stopped and started the bluetooth service in services.msc and still got nothing. I ran chkdsk and sfc scan now to make sure it wasn't a problem with windows itself. But still it didn't detect any device. Finally after giving up, I borrowed a bluetooth usb dongle from my friend to bypass the motherboard bluetooth after disabling it. And even the USB bluetooth doesn't find any of my devices.

I checked the USB bluetooth on the laptop and it's working fine on the laptop, so now I'm basically stumped as to what is stopping my Windows installation from detecting any devices.

    Any advice?

Taskbar, Alt+Tab, Win+Tab don't work, and general oddities

    Posted: 05 Feb 2019 03:15 AM PST

I have a HP Laptop I use for work, but recently, usually when I'm watching Netflix during my break, the PC's functions just stop working. Taskbar, Windows+Tab or Windows+ctrl+(arrowkeys), F2-F3 (Brightness buttons), F6-F8 (Volume/Mute buttons) don't work, but F9-F11 (skip, pause/play) works. I'm sure a lot of other functions don't work either.

Please help. If I close or minimize a chrome-window, I can't get it back.

I have tried to turn it off and on (1-2 minutes between turning off/on, I don't 'restart' or immediately turn it on as soon as it's off). Last time this happened, i fixed it by turning it off and turning it on 45 minutes later

edit: Can't Windows+S search, or click on the search icon to search either. Taskbar is completely stuck.

edit2: F9-F11 (skip, pause/play) only work if the spotify window is on top.

edit3: Taskbar never goes down, even in fullscreen YouTube

edit4: Taskbar got fixed by restarting Windows Explorer through task manager. None of my icons are there though. Nevermind, i can't get it back up.

edit5: Windows+R doesn't work anymore. It did before, but now it doesn't

edit6: the multiple desktop window (Windows+Tab) shows up, but doesn't show any open apps/windows when i hover over each desktop
