Is the Overpowered Gamjng Laptop from Walmart ever coming back? Posted: 01 Feb 2019 09:00 AM PST That was one of the best deals of 2018 I have to say, and I can't help but wonder if they are ever going to produce such laptop again. [link] [comments]

Posted: 01 Feb 2019 01:51 PM PST Hello Redditors, which laptop (or laptop brand) has the best touch screens that they do not crack easily? Thanks [link] [comments]
Posted: 01 Feb 2019 01:27 PM PST I am looking for a portable laptop that can do video editing and gaming. My budget is around 1500 USD. It would need to run adobe premiere, gta v and cs:go. Is the matebook x pro a good deal for my requirements? [link] [comments]
Repasting and undervolting with 8th gen i7-8550U Posted: 01 Feb 2019 01:11 PM PST I searched for a while and couldn't find a concise answer to this question, so my apologies if it has been asked before. I recently bought an HP Spectre x360 13". It was an open box floor model at Best Buy and it's in excellent condition (it was only on the floor for a short while). It was a pretty good deal. Here are the specs:
I read some posts and watched some YouTube videos about people repasting the CPUs of 2-in-1s to significantly increase performance and heat management. Has anyone done this with a Spectre? I've heard HP makes the CPU somewhat hard to access. Also, I'm very interested in undervolting and overclocking. I realize the Core U series of processors are designed so that they CAN'T be tampered with too much (especially in Intel XTU), but would it be possible/worth it to undervolt and/or overclock my 8550U? Is it even advisable to undervolt a 15W chip because it's already super low voltage? Also, are there any repercussions to messing around with a Core U chip? Basically I can't find many good examples of people optimizing these CPUs. Does anyone have any experience with this kind of stuff? Also, I'm not worried about voiding the warranty. Thanks! Posted: 01 Feb 2019 06:55 AM PST Hey people, my question is a mix between "which one to choose" and "how reliable are dell xps's ?" - I bought macbook pro 2015 in a pretty good condition (almost new) and for a good price, yet i'm not really a mac guy, i tried to get used to this system but it takes longer than i expected. Also i like to play cs:go once a while, so i'm considering selling the macbook and buying Dell xps 15 (9560 perhaps) but i'm scared of problems that people encounter. Xps seems like a problematic line. I'm primarly a windows guy, i do a lot of photoshop and lightroom work, rarely play games: most of my work looks like this :
* **Total budget and country of purchase:** Price range that includes used dell 9560 or macbook 2015 pro, Poland (other alternatives are welcome, but I've already checked HP spectre 360 and envy (heard bad things about them), surface laptop 1st gen (also high percentage of failiure rate and it's fairly new so not sure if it's fixable once it breaks), lenovo thinkpad/yoga x1 seems to be out of my price range when maxed out (and still doesn't have screen good enough + battery is not that great), and huawei's matebook pro x is only 13,9 inch big + lots of issues with trackpad and cooling Other options have only fhd screens - not sure if that would be enough for lightroom work) i'm in Poland (don't know about the Dell/Microsoft support here) * **Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply.** 2 in 1/touchscreen doesn't matter to me, specs and battery are important - mostly specs and good screen (srgb accuracy and pixel count , for photo editing work) * **How important is weight and thinness to you?** doesn't matter really * **Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux.** Windows * **Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.** 15' * **Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.** photoediting, gaming (rarely) cs:go, most of the gaming i do on my glorious pc machine anyway ( ͡~ ͜Ê– ͡°) * **Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?** Sharp color-accurate display, good trackpad, 16gb of ram, preferred i7 intel cpu, dedicated gpu would be a plus (not a must though, something that runs cs:go in decent framerate) * **Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.**
I actually consider installing windows on macbook and using macos for photo/graphic design work - and windows for everything else (fun). It sucks that I can't take my newly-bought laptop to a LAN party and shoot some terrorists, need to check that bootcamp thingy, but I've seen how bad fps drops once you throw a smoke grenade so I'm not overly optimistic about that. What would you recommend ? Thanks :) [link] [comments]

First ultrabook and laptop: Macbook Pro or... ? Posted: 01 Feb 2019 10:12 AM PST I am a business informatics student and want to invest into a mobile workstation (for entertainment and work purposes) .Money ain't THAT much of an issue. Here are some things I'm considering for my next rig to have: - atleast 512GB SSD (plenty storage for VM's/other OS's, personal videos/pictures and maybe music) - 16GB RAM (people tend to say that it's more futureproof because you wouldn't know how much memory programs might need in the upcoming years) - display and sound (+ headphone jack- quality ?) should be in the upper league (if I'm about to invest plenty into such a device, it should have less weak points, especially in this department) - (very) good battery life I might additionally mention that ultrabooks like the Lenovo's thinkpad X1 Carbon's design is also attractive. But I had to read many negative reviews just like that DELL XPS 13's (coil whine, speaker problems, fan noise, weak heat management). But you people might have different experiences , so I wanna hear from you folks). I also possess a Windows desktop at home , so I have never used MacOs but heard good things about the user experience. :) EDIT: - PORTABILITY !!! (14"max) - 2in1 capability ain't a necessity, I don't really know yet if I need it (never had one, never really considered to need it) [link] [comments]

Laptop for University and Desktop replacement - Longevity. Posted: 01 Feb 2019 08:38 AM PST This summer, i am starting University as a comp.sci major, and i most certainty need a new laptop (Currently using a 6 y/o jet-engine). I would love to be able to use it as a desktop replacement, e.g. via docking (*thinkpads are an obvious choice), and also a quick grab-and-go University machine. I realize that wanting atleast 16 GBs of ram (preferably upgradeable) and a nice quad-core processor would cost alot of money, so i'm looking at a maximum budget of around 2000 usd (preferably 1500 - 1750) the most important factor for me, is longevity. I want a laptop that will function as a midrange laptop for a good timespan, (5 years maybe?) I have been looking at the x1 carbon, and the Thinkpad P52, but i am still unsure. Gaming isn't something i care too much about, and i assume that even business laptops can play Warcraft III or whatever. Any recommendations would be appreciated EDIT: I'm currently using a triple monitor setup, i would strongly prefer being able to do this (*even if it requires tons of cabling, docking stations etc.) so specifications wise it would graphically need to be able to run a secondary and a tertiary monitor. Posted: 01 Feb 2019 08:23 AM PST Hey, I just got a new laptop. Although the wifi is able to connect, the speed is pretty bad compared to my other laptop. My Wifi has two different bandwidths - 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz. Speed is better when I use 5Ghz option but on 2.4Ghz connection, the speed is abysmal. I get around 40 Mbps on my other laptop but I am getting like 0.6 or sometimes like 2 or 3 Mbps. Is it a problem with my Wifi Card or what ? [link] [comments]
Which gaming laptop to choose? 2019 February Posted: 01 Feb 2019 12:43 AM PST Hello, So I want to exchange my desktop pc for gaming laptop due to my back problems and my own comfort.. I will be exchanging pc with i7-8700k GTX 1070 so Im looking to buy a good laptop. Im reading about laptops for past few days and I cant wrap my mind around which one is better so help me out guys. Should I:
I dont want Alienware or Razer because they are overpriced for their fame. Im not looking for the very expensive ones.. up to 2400 USD or something. I also dont know if MAX-Q is worth it? Last thing, Ive read that most laptops have around 87 Celcius inside them while gaming, isnt that too hot? I mean wont my fingers be on fire when I touch the keyboards of these laptops lol? Ps. The screen has to be IPS possible best one.. I mean im not a photographer but I want really nice looking one, I love ips in my old 5 year laptop, I have TN panel on my desktop pc and honestly it is Asus rog one but looks worser than the one in my old laptop lol. Recommendation for Laptop Reviews/Reviewers Posted: 01 Feb 2019 06:32 AM PST Sorry if this has been asked before, but I am in the market for a new laptop. My budget is around $1,500 and there are a handful of very good laptops in this price range. What laptop reviewers do you trust nowadays? There are so many top 10 lists and youtube channels that it is hard to know what or who is rubbish and what is not. I am very weary of getting suckered by paid reviewers, or reviewers that simply go for view counts instead of giving honest opinions. [link] [comments]
Looking for laptop University/Gaming , any suggestions? Posted: 01 Feb 2019 04:40 AM PST I've had a Toshiba sattelite for 6 years and it's near death. I'm a electrical engeneering Stundet and I often have to run heavy simulations and graphic renders. I also like to game sometimes so I would like a laptop that could run normal games even if at a low graphics settings. My old laptop weighted like 2,5kg, so I would like something lighter this time, and definitely a 15 inch one , what do you suggest? [link] [comments]
So my parents decided to get me an acer. Posted: 31 Jan 2019 07:32 PM PST They say it's a top brand, is this true? I looked around and everyone is saying its garbage and it'll break apart after a few weeks. [link] [comments]
Need help choosing between laptops Posted: 01 Feb 2019 04:12 AM PST I currently have a toshiba satellite p50t-c-109, I love the 4k touchscreen and it has a good gpu but the cpu bottlenecks this laptop so much, apart from the horrid battery life. I really can't stand this dual core i5 which spikes just when opening the browser. I was considering exchanging it for an HP 15-J181, has a really good i7 with hyperthreading, 12 gigs of ram, gpu is meh but that's alright. 1080p screen and is also touchscreen. What do you guys think? should I exchange it for the HP? [link] [comments]
Posted: 01 Feb 2019 03:51 AM PST Total noob when it comes to this... looking to upgrade my laptop, but wondered if there were some specifics you'd recommend for my price range. Also, if there's laptops that are cheaper and then upgraded with extra parts (RAM, etc) Thank you if you're patient enough to maybe explain a little bit of the details and MAIN differences between laptops or what adding extra RAM, SSD.. etc. these are terms I don't even really comprehend in context of working with laptops lol. Like what the fuck is an overclock ):, I know I could google but Reddit is usually my safe haven lol (which may be surprising) [link] [comments]
Posted: 01 Feb 2019 03:15 AM PST Is it safe to be reapply thermal paste if the laptop might be in some cold or areas? Would liquid metal be an issue in below freezing areas? If it is then I'll just us ic diamond if that is fine. [link] [comments]
Posted: 31 Jan 2019 05:20 PM PST I know there's a few laptops nowadays that can charge through USB-C. But it's not very popular. I'm wondering if with the smaller and more efficient design of Intel's 9th Gen processors allow for more or most laptops to be able to charge using USB-C. That's very important to me for my next laptop buy. But I also want it to be powerful enough to edit photos and videos so an Intel H-Series laptop with USB-C charging would be amazing. How important is color coverage for a gaming laptop? Posted: 31 Jan 2019 09:20 PM PST I used to have an Eluktronics N870HK1 Pro which supposedly had 90% sRGB. I've realised I don't game as much on my laptop and should probably downgrade as the only games I really play are Civ V and occasionally LoL and Overwatch. I otherwise only use my laptop to watch movies and write word docs. I was considering getting the HP Pavillion gaming laptop with a i5-8300 processor and 1050ti GPU. My only stopping point is the color coverage is supposedly bad on the Pavilion - around 61% sRGB. I'm essentially just wondering if such a difference is super noticable when it comes to gaming and movies? I read this one review where the guy acted as if the experience was completely ruined because of the display. Surely it can't be that bad to the general consumer? Thank you for any opinions/insights.
