ISP is too incompetent to solve a packet loss issue, how can I help them? Posted: 25 Feb 2019 10:15 AM PST After like the 7th visit by different 'technicians' , the latest response was " well... we'll get back to you! :) " Often they take upwards of an hour each visit 'diagnosing' with no solution in sight, often at work hours which I rather not waste. According to them, the packet loss happens when the data (is that the right word here?) hops from a private IP to a public one (all owned by the ISP). This is what mtr shows traceroute to blizzard's US servers The public one then connects to a server from a bigger ISP. The problem is the public IP owned by my ISP. It often drops around 10 - 20% of packets. If I'm gaming, I see players teleporting all over the map. There are also a lot of ping spikes, which may be a side effect of the packet loss. They also tried switching from one big ISP server to some other but that didn't fix anything. So my question, is there anything I can do to help them diagnose the problem? I do believe they are trying to do their best but I don't think the recruits have much experience. [link] [comments] |
Computer freezes when opening over 100+ TB zip file with 7zip Posted: 26 Feb 2019 02:56 AM PST It's a backup zip archive I have. I want to open it but every time I try to, my computer hard freezes and I'm forced to do a hard reset. EDIT: My bad, not 100TB but 1TB. I meant to write 1000GB but mistyped the title. EDIT 2: Adding more info: It's over 1 TB so I have it on an external drive. My concern is using 7zip to OPEN (not extract but only opening it), will space be a concern? Or ram? I only need to extract one folder inside the archive out of 20 but cannot even open it currently to view it. Windows's internal zip opener cannot even open it. 7zip loads for a few minutes before the computer hard freezes. Leaving it on results in BSOD (happened once, unconfirmed if it is a consistent symptom) Internal drive is only 500GB and ram is 8GB. Windows 7. [link] [comments] |
144hz monitor stuck at 60hz - HELP NEEDED Posted: 26 Feb 2019 02:38 AM PST Monitor: AOC G2460PF My AOC monitor is stuck at 60Hz refresh rate. https://imgur.com/V8fIsOI In Nvidia Control Panel, when I click 'Apply' for anything above 60Hz, the screen either goes completely black or turns purple with very blurred texture, before I wait and it reverts back to 60Hz. When changing the resolution in Window's 'Advanced display setting', 144Hz is showing up as an option but the same thing happens when applied. Tried 3 different DVI-D cables (Single Link x2 Dual Link x1). The same thing happens with each one. Had the exact same problem with my previous PC which ran GTX 650 and Windows 10. Any help with this problem would be much appreciated. Thank you for your time in advance. [link] [comments] |
Chrome back button acting real strange lately. Posted: 26 Feb 2019 12:59 AM PST Past 2 weeks or so my back button has been "broken". About 70% of the time if I press back it would just reload my current page like I'm refreshing. I would have to press back 2-3 times and for it to stop that and actually go back to the previous page. This mostly happens on YouTube more than any website at the moment. How do I fix this? Thanks. [link] [comments] |

2 systems connected to the same monitor Posted: 26 Feb 2019 02:56 AM PST So, basically i wanted to connect both my nintendo switch and my computer to the same monitor, unfortunatly my monitor has only one HDMI port and since i don't want to keep switching between the two i was thinking about buying an adpater like this: https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/51rg%2BRJZPaL.jpg that basically increases the number of ports of the monitor. My worries stand in the fact that the product is sold has "perfect for connecting the same system to 2 different monitor" and not the other way around. Would it work for what i want to do? Posted: 26 Feb 2019 02:53 AM PST So recently I was watching Netflix and every time I watch a video or resume watching a video after pausing it, it will flicker a yellow and black ad for "The Test Pit." Is there any way to fix this!?!? I would love your feedback! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 26 Feb 2019 02:51 AM PST I made a post here a couple weeks ago asking for help with a rattling noise my laptop was making and was fairly content with the analysis I got; fan bearings are shot and it can be used so long as heating isn't an issue in the meanwhile. I was content with the analysis but the noise drove me mad so I haven't been using the laptop since then. Started it up this morning to poke around before sending it in for repairs cuz warranty and was surprised to find it running way more quietly. Still not as smoothly as before the issue started, certainly, but the rattling was considerably less obnoxious than I remember it being. It seems to respond to me tilting, changing slightly in volume as I tilt it around. Honestly, this has me baffled. I don't have experience with the bearings going out but is it common for the noise to become quieter? The fans haven't been running at all since I made the last post, so it couldn't be that they're nearly dead. They're both blowing fine (judging by my extremely imprecise measurement of feeling by the heatsinks on the back and on the vents on the bottom of the laptop). I don't believe anything is obstructing the fan but I could be wrong. The problem started before I opened it so nothing was moved internally by me to initiate it. When I did open it, I didn't see anything in the fan and blew it out with some canned air to be sure. Any help or insight would be appreciated. Is it possible it's still the bearings? Could something be stuck in a place effected by the fan blowing that isn't necessarily the housing for the fan? It's definitely local to the right side/one of the two fans specifically, if that helps. It's fairly new (less than a year old). Thanks in advance. [link] [comments] |
Cracked laptop display. Looking for software to adjust display size Posted: 25 Feb 2019 11:05 PM PST Hi. So yesterday I cracked the screen on my laptop. The crack is not large, and covers maybe 10 % of the screen on left side. Is there a software that I can make screen "smaller" so windows apps etc are not displayed on the cracked part on the screen? Like to cut 5 centimeters from the screen size to only use the area on display that is not cracked. Thanks for answers. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 25 Feb 2019 10:56 PM PST Hello, this is my first time posting here to let me know if I have any errors. So I live in an apartment complex that has control of the modems but allows everyone to install a Wi-Fi router. Mine (r6020 Ac750) was working perfectly until I tried to update it. Now the green light only flashes green with no internet. I have tried doing stuff that involves tftp but it is too complicated for me. Any help would be appreciated. [link] [comments] |
Don’t know what’s wrong with my PC. Posted: 26 Feb 2019 02:35 AM PST I got a decent PC in my opinion (Specs: GTX 1060 6 GB, Intel core i7-3770 CPU 3,40GHz, and 8GB RAM ) and my PC is overall pretty slow lagging when I'm on a internet browser or such thing. The issue is that my games are a little bit "hacky" when I play then meaning like i have 90 fps then it drops to like 2 fps in 1 second then back to normal creating a hacky effect. Do I have a malware, bad specs or a virus of sorts? I'm not a computery person so I don't know much. I bought a new graphics card thinking it would help which it did but not much. [link] [comments] |

My dad got let go and can't open saved emails Posted: 25 Feb 2019 07:26 PM PST i feel really bad for him and I'm trying to help but I can't figure it out. They are emails from his job he needs for his next job (granted he finds) but I can't open them. They are the .msg files. I only have macs at my house so that may be the problem but i downloaded some apps to try to help and nothing. I also tried outlook on my mac. When my dad is in his office, he can open them as the .msg file but some of the emails are already deleted. I'm gonna head over tomorrow night to see if I can help from there. His last day is thursday and he plan is to hand past 1000s of emails into word documents to save them instead which will take days. Picture below is one of the folders with some of the files. If you need any more pics please let me know and i can provide. Im not to tech savvy so please keep any explanation on the similar side. Thanks for your help in advance. [link] [comments] |

Broken Charging Port Connection [SAMSUNG ODYSSEY 800G5M] Posted: 26 Feb 2019 01:33 AM PST Hello all! I recently purchased a Samsung laptop at my local Fry's Electronics, along with an "extended" warranty. Recently I've been having issues charging the computer, it's gotten to the point where I need to have it propped in weird positions for it to work for even a few minutes. As a student this won't do. I took the computer into Fry's and they told me they couldn't help me and that my computer was missing a piece from it's charging port, something small and plastic that grips the charger. They said they couldn't order the part for me, and didn't help me further. TL;DR: My charging port is loose and broken, charger only works in weird position. Fry's told me I'm missing a small plastic piece that goes in the charging port. What might that piece be? Is there a temporary fix? Is this similar to phones where it could easily just be dust trapped in the port? Is it worth the replacement? Can I do the repair myself? I'm really not sure what to do but I still owe $500 on this computer and I don't want to spend more money than I have to, or worse yet, waste payments on a machine that won't work. Thanks for reading! Best, Cory [link] [comments] |
Broken Monitor/Video Card? Green horizontal lines in monitor Posted: 26 Feb 2019 01:28 AM PST I was playing CS:GO in my computer when suddenly, my computer turned off, I tried to turn it on but it didn't. I got my computer fixed but after then, my resolution returned back to 800x600. It was working for only a day then. It turned off again. I tried to turn it on but it didn't, or atleast it took very long to turn on. I got it fixed again, but when I got the computer back again, when I tried to change the resolution, it showed green lines, I tried reinstalling my NVIDIA drivers, but it always has this Code 43. I tried using screenshot in my computer, but in the picture, it didn't show the green lines in my computer, but in my computer, there are these green lines. Does anyone know how to fix this problem? Also my computer still takes a long time to open til now. Is my monitor broken or is it my CPU? My video card? [link] [comments] |

Can't install windows on hard drive, can't clean or convert hard drive. Posted: 26 Feb 2019 04:32 AM PST I was given a Lenovo laptop that was going to be thrown away. Previous owner said she got a blue screen of death and tried to reinstall Windows but couldn't do it so gave up and gave it to me. I am trying to install Windows 10 from a USB but it will not allow me to install. It says Windows must be installed to an NTFS partition and this is an EFI partition. Several sites told me to clean the disc and convert it through diskpart in command prompt, but diskpart keeps showing errors when trying either. What am I doing wrong? [link] [comments] |

Inteldata Temp folder taking up 32gb of space, can I delete those .etl files? Posted: 26 Feb 2019 04:13 AM PST C:\ProgramData\Intel\SUR\WILLAMETTE\inteldata\temp shows me an absolute ton of .etl files that amount up to 32gb. My C Drive has been running out of space lately, wonder if this could be the problem. Either way, is it safe for me to delete these files? Or can I move them elsewhere and free up my C Drive? What results from deleting these files? [link] [comments] |

Posted: 26 Feb 2019 04:08 AM PST Hi! Yesterday evening my monitor suddenly lost signal from my PC via DP. Today it had the same problem and had not changed. My monitor finds the signal normally with HDMI. The DP cable is not broken because I can access BIOS with no problems while using the DP cable. Just whenever I am about to be able to log into my PC the signal is lost. I have had this problem before but it always just fixed itself in a matter of moments. Do you know any fix to this? Thanks in advance, nexustron [link] [comments] |
More Drives Than My Motherboard SATA Ports - Possible? Posted: 25 Feb 2019 10:06 PM PST Hey there reddit! I have had a long time unanswered question, and have lurked in tons of places for ten minutes at a time on plenty of nights never being able to come to a decision, so I'm here to ask you. I simply want to add more drives to my computer, SATA III so I can have 6gb/s speeds for more SSD's. I see on plenty of websites PCI raid controllers, and all kinds of other SATA "expanders" made from tons of different manufactures with little reviews far in between, not mention extremely old! I don't need to raid at all, I simply need more SATA III ports because my motherboards are full. I would love to find a PCI card thats well known and quality to fit the task. I also have an esata port on the back of the computer as an alternative. For specific purposes the motherboard is a Sabertooth Z77 and the only PCI port taken is the top one for my graphics card. Thanks for any help and suggestions! [link] [comments] |
