Bought wife new HP, want to put SSD in it. How do I get windows on it? Posted: 28 Feb 2019 04:48 PM PST I know the system has a valid windows key, I found it with ShowKeyPlus. I also know this is an OEM key. HP wants to sell me a 50.00 recovery kit. Come on now, shouldn't i be able to install windows and use the key that it came with when I bought it? (Like three days ago) [link] [comments] |
Your Personal Opinion as to why Microsoft removed Control Panel from the Quick Link Menu? Posted: 28 Feb 2019 02:26 PM PST When I say Quick Link Menu, I refer to the right-click on Start/Windows button on taskbar. It existed in early versions of Windows 10 and they removed it, like the menu was so massive!/s I can only assume it is because they want everyone to use their convoluted 'Settings' instead of the far more functional Control Panel. To me, it doesn't make any sense except to do it for a specific reason, that link to the Control Panel hurt nobody except Microsoft clearly. What's your opinion as to why they would do this? After I updated screen brightness was removed from the battery icon in the task bar? Posted: 28 Feb 2019 08:56 AM PST Is there anyway to bring back quickly changing screen brightness from the task-bar? [link] [comments] |
Blue Screen after drivers update Posted: 28 Feb 2019 05:20 PM PST I use windows 7 and recently I updated the driver using Driver Booster, like I always do. Also checked for updates in Dell's SupportAssistant and there was a BIOS update. Some days after my notebook started to give me blue screens whenever I try to open Steam and some other programs I opened the dump file and there it says that ntoskrnl.exe was the reason, but i wasn't able to find the problem. Dump file print: https://imgur.com/3EHFz7U Decided to format it. The problem persists. I didn't test all of the programs but Steam is pretty broken. It donwload, extract and install the update but when it is to pop up the login screen i get the blue screen [link] [comments] |
Windows destorys eveeyhting I love Posted: 28 Feb 2019 08:10 PM PST Okay, so for those of you in University you know that this time of year is full of long papers and midterm assignments. Well, I am in the middle of busting out a 10 page, single spaced, research paper that's due tomorrow and have a pretty bad habbit of not saving stuff as I go. I had about 8 1/2 pages done when windows decided to update itself. Out of no where. I don't know if I accedently scheduled it for later and forgot or something like that, but mid sentence I got the update screen and everything just went away. Computer reboots and word was only able to auto restore up to the first 3 ish pages. I'm obviously dead on the inside now. Do I have any options to fine the rest or am I just in for an all nighter? Posted: 28 Feb 2019 09:50 AM PST I got a laptop with win 10 home preinstalled and I have an Edu key. I tried upgrading but says I cannot upgrade from my current windows install. How/where can I download an Edu iso to start fresh? I downloaded the iso off MS but I never have the option to choose Edu, automatically installs Home. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 28 Feb 2019 01:03 PM PST I already searched lots of sites and foruns, tried many solutions using regedit, gpedit, autologon from sysinternals, nothing worked. I have 3 user accounts in my pc, using win10 pro: an administrator, my user, and a user for my family, only this doesn't have a password. Everytime I come home and turn on the pc, I have to wait it load their account and then logoff. Sure I can setup a simple password just for the sake of it... but there is no decent way to disable autologon? [link] [comments] |

Windows 10 Insider Preview 10.0.18342.8 Wont Install correctly. Posted: 27 Feb 2019 09:44 PM PST I've tried installing the new update on the slow ring, but even though it says its successfully installed its still not on the right version. It's on the previous version and never goes through the full update upon restart. When I search for new updates it starts downloading and installing the new patch all over again. Please help. Update: 2/28/2019.. Thanks to heythem0121 for the solution! everyone give him a like if it works for you. " get it to work after Uninstalling BattlEye from the game rainbow six siege . you only need to run Uninstall_BattlEye.bat from the game directory ..\steamapps\common\Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege\BattlEye" This worked for me! Dell e740 Outlook crawls when PSU unplugged Posted: 28 Feb 2019 12:46 PM PST Hello when I unplug the power supply from this Dell e7470 the Outlook 2016 slows down considerably. It occurs instantaneously, I can cycle between three messages in outlook 2016 quickly, the moment I unplug the power the very next click has a 2-5 second delay per each click. I can confirm I selected the "high performance" power setting as a resolution. No change I confirmed in the bios the "speed step" is enabled under performance. When I used CPUz to see the clock it appears to just show me the max possible clock , I am not yet able to verify if the CPU drops lower with real time clocks ( task manager is a graph which the scale changes so the clock is not there ) Any help will be appreciated, I am in front of the PC now [link] [comments] |
How to make a Windows 10 mouse wheel scroll like Apple (inverted direction)? Posted: 28 Feb 2019 03:29 AM PST No such option under mouse properties and various explanations on websites not match the Win 10 UI reality. Edit- found some complicated regedit shit to do this and it worked. [link] [comments] |
Fixing Windows 19h1 update bug Posted: 28 Feb 2019 01:44 PM PST If you have experienced the strange non-informative error about Windows 10 19h1 failing to install, here's a solution that works. Settings -> Update & Security -> Windows Insider Program -> Stop insider previews It's a stupid solution but I feel like having to post it now that Microsoft is insisting on pushing it on the Slow and Fast rings without any other ways to avoid it. Posted: 28 Feb 2019 01:24 AM PST Hello. Usually, when I uninstall a program, I then have to manually search for it's small pieces everywhere to remove that program completely. Is it any different for Apps I got from Microsoft Store? [link] [comments] |

Black screen after logging in (only arrow appears) Posted: 28 Feb 2019 02:43 AM PST Hey everyone, This is my first post here and I hope someone can help me. My internal storage was full so I deleted a couple of large files and rebooted my laptop (Lenovo IdeaPad 100) and after I enter my password it just shows a black screen but I can see the cursor. I'm not able to get into task manager, Windows key + shift + ctrl +b gives a beep but the black screen persists. I'm not the most tech savvy person but I know my way around technology quite a bit. If more information is required that would help you help me to solve the issue please let me know. [link] [comments] |
Windows Update downloaded the wrong? graphics driver and disabled my gpu Posted: 27 Feb 2019 11:34 PM PST Just thought you guys should know.. I'm currently downloading new drivers from nvidia but I shouldn't have to go through this headache because I chose to enable updates. My graphics card is a 1060 3gb. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 28 Feb 2019 02:13 AM PST I am using a version from 2017 now, but every time we use that to install, the PCs need a lot of updating. If I make new sticks today, I think I will get the latest 2018 version, which is already much better, but I wonder if it's known when they make it a 2019 version. (The reason we have to reinstall windows all the time is because we use it in a school environment, in hardware lessons, that involve a lot of formatting HDDS and reinstalling the whole thing again and again. These systems are not really used for anything else than hardware assembly and disassembly.) [link] [comments] |
Pop up says "To continue, enter an admin user name and pasword" EVERYWHERE Posted: 28 Feb 2019 03:33 AM PST Hello, As I said , it's everywhere, from installing or uninstalling programs, to trying to manage my account from control panel. I want to run Netplwiz but I can't because of it. I even can't change my account type in contol panel because i'm not the administrator. Please help Thank you Update: To anyone that has this issue ( no administrator account ), you can follow the steps in this link ( first reply ): It worked for me after everything else didn't. It's easy enough and without the need to format or use an external assisting device. Hope it helps [link] [comments] |
Is there a Windows store app that is updated sometime this year for Reddit? Posted: 27 Feb 2019 11:52 PM PST Is there a Windows store app that is updated sometime this year for Reddit? All the ones I see listed don't appear to be currently maintained by their developers but maybe I missed one. This would keep me from using the website or picking up my phone often. Posted: 28 Feb 2019 01:58 AM PST Despite having the OS on an SSD, the HDDs in the system randomly spin up although no data / programm is being accessed. After a short while, they will return to idle mode before the cycle repeats. Any idea how to keep the drives in standby, until they are actually used? (Win10 Pro 64b) [link] [comments] |
